First time in the store today and we had a wonderful experience. Very pleasant and patient salesman named Courtney helped me with a purchase of Barbour jacket. I was somewhat between sizes and he was able to determine what I needed. Another salesperson stopped by as we were at the checkout register and provided even further help and information about my purchase. We also learned that if we see something we like in the catalog, we can call the store directly and they will ship it free (this may be available within a certain distance from the store). Even though I know nothing about outdoor equipment etc, I did not feel out of place. read more

I love this store and the all the employees. They actually have a great selection of stuff from nice Barbour jackets to casual and technical Orvis clothing, and have a particularly impressive fly rod and fly fishing gear selection. They even have upland game hunting clothes, too.The staff are all nice and many have been there for a long time and feel like friends. This is THE place to come if you want to one-stop shop your entire fly fishing setup. I recommend you get an Orvis vest, matching waders, Orvis Rod and Reel setup with Orvis line. Get the nice Wheatly fly box with the big Orvis logo on it, and have 'em fill it with Orvis woolly buggers and hare's ears. Don't forget your Orvis zing, nippers, hemostats and landing net. Now you're all set- go up to a Wi spring creek in your Hummer, drive too fast, and act like a jerk at the playground! OK seriously, Orvis makes good products (their superstrong tippet is the best). But if you buy all your stuff here, people who know how to hunt and fish will make fun of you- maybe to your face, for sure behind your back- don't let having more $ than brains get the best of you here. read more

Orvis is definitely a brand name type place. I have known this brand for good quality fly fishing gear. But on a nice tour around the Chicago downtown we decided to stop in this shop. This Orvis store is made up of more clothing than fishing gear. I understand that they probably could not stay in business if they just sold fishing gear. But wow, this is a very expensive store for clothes. We walked around and looked at a few jackets and shirts. The quality is very high and the name is well known. But still a bit expensive for the items. While in the store there was some chatter about fishing between two workers. It is great to hear fishing talk while there but maybe they should be spending some time with the customers? We walked around the entire store and did not have one person interact with us. Maybe we didn't look like serious customers? We most likely will not be back to this location just because we do not frequent the city. If you are looking for a nice store and have loads of available cash; stop in. read more

If you want to LOOK like a fisherman this store has the shirts and pants. However, if you ARE a fisherman go somewhere else. I have been coming to this store for over 20 years. They used to have tons of flies, fly tying materials, local knowledge and even the occasional Scotch tasting. Now, every time I come the clothing creeps deeper and deeper into the store and they're down to 10 rods, one fly kiosk and not enough waders to outfit the staff if the roof leaks. The manager tried to talk his way out of their lack of commitment to the sport that originated their brand, but I honestly don't believe he even bought what he was selling. Support the Mom and Pop shops that really care about our sport... even if they don't LOOK like an Orvis fisherman. read more

Have shopped at Orvis for thirty years. Super disappointing fly selection today. Took a friend in before a weekend trip so we could stock up. No Chernobyl ants, Club sammies, rubber legged or sparkle wooly buggers. No bumblebee bass poppers or bead head prince nymphs (just 16's and 18's). I could go on.....point is this is, or was a fly shop at one point. It's not January, it's June. I'll have to make another trip across town to the real fly shop. read more

Wandered in one day because they allow dogs. Walked out with around $50 of free product. We will definitely be back.

My family has been shopping at this store since they opened their doors and we are glad to support local businesses in our neighborhood. We live a couple blocks away. I understand that store reps. depend on their sales performance but maybe a little less pushiness and attitude would provide loyal customers a more pleasant shopping experience. We were here this past Sunday, and were greeted with "are you guys new to this store, when you're ready I'll help you with the newest and latest products". First the assumption that we have no clue where we are, and then we are here for the latest and newest products. If this guy knew his product and clientele, he would understand that most people who specifically shop at Orvis are there to buy basic and necessary, sometimes new, but more so just practical needs such as tools, lures, reels and fly tying accessories/replacements, and additionally clothing. As I explained that we are regular customers here on Michigan Avenue as well as in the Seattle area, where we fly fish coho and chinook salmon in the Hood Canal and Skokomish River, a lady sales rep. approaches me if I needed any help so I had said no thank you, and that I was simply reading some of the local information/reading material, but then the attitude of "oh I thought you knew everything about fly fishing?". Maybe I just want to be left alone and not necessarily make a purchase right? There's a concept. Pretty sad with the young millennial sales force not properly trained to respect and know the customers that walk into a store with a specific sporting product and not just another Gap or Old Navy. If you guys come in here, just expect a lot of naivete, and simply smile, go about your way, and don't give them anymore personal fly fishing/outdoor wear experiences or else you'll get an ear full of a sales pitch with an attitude if you don't give in to show an interest in a product or let alone a purchase. Although we prefer to come into the store for a pleasant shopping experience, and leave with an average of over a $200 purchase per visit, online shopping is looking a lot more comfortable, that or we wait for when we visit our second home in Washington and shop at their local Orvis, in addition to the mom and pop shops in the Seattle-area, where the sales reps., gee another concept, actually know their product and know how to treat customers that actually fly fish. read more

Kristin and staff are always helpful and knowledgeable on all things Orvis. I have been to this location several times and it will continue to be my local goto for seasonal outerwear. read more

THIS IS THE WORST COMPANY EVER. I ordered a dog collar personalized with my greyhound's name and my phone number on it. i waited over 10 days to get the collar. Upon receipt, I put it on my new friend to find that the collar would fit around an elephant. I called Orvis and the gal said she would send a replacement. Now I got an email from a "Pam" and she refused to replace the collar. She said the mistake was mine. NEVER NEVER NEVER use this company. They are liars, frauds, and cheats!!!!! read more

I havent been to this location but ordered something online. It is 11 days and counting and it is still not here. How can companies like this expect to compete with Amazon, etc with such miserable shipping? It is bizarre how slow this is. I could have driven to the shipping location in Roanoke, VA and home by now with days to spare. I should have just gone downtown to get this item and saved a lot of aggravation. read more

Nice store with occasional sales. Ray in the fishing department is incredibly helpful, kind, and patient. I only wish they had a larger fly selection. Fly fishing has a reputation for being snooty, but I have never encountered that here. read more

I have been to Orvis many times, but this was a first time downtown. I must comment, the staff at this store was very good, helpful but not pushy, polite, and efficent. The lines were long but moving, and the manager at the checkout was very interested in our experience. I would shop here again. read more

Ordered a jacket for a special occaision in three days...it was too big and needed to get a size smaller.. Mike in the store had a new one shipped out with no extra charge since I had already paid a hefty speed shipping charge. They were so nice and accomodating..great to find a store like this anywhere today! High quality products as well. read more
