I am extremely disappointed with this company. We paid nearly $1,300 for a brace for our 12 year old dog with a torn CCL and received confirmation from Orthopets that production had begun. 3 weeks later, we learned from our vet - not from Orthopets - that the company is currently "paused for an ownership transition." Orthopets has not answered calls or emails, nor have they provided any update, explanation, or apology for delays to their paying customers. The rep didn't even notify our vet. Our vet only discovered the closure after repeatedly trying to contact them. I understand companies go through changes, but when people are relying on you for support for an injured pet, complete lack of communication is unacceptable. It reflects poorly on the new ownership and shows complete disregard for customers and their pets. At this point, Orthopets has lost my trust, and they will not be getting my business again (fingers crossed our other girl with hip and knee problems won't suffer the same injury). Because surgery is not an option for our senior girl, we are now scrambling for a Plan B. I wish we had known about this a month earlier - the prolonged use of only 3 legs puts her at greater risk of injuring the others and making matters even worse. Please work with your vet before choosing this company. Based on my experience, they are unreliable, unresponsive, and I still have no information about if or when we will ever receive the brace our dog urgently needs. read more

We worked with Dr.Ilana at a Well Adjusted Pet in CA - so we were very lucky to get the best help and care to rehab Charlie. NO SURGERY! Update to original review: Heard back from OrthoPets before they even opened on Monday. They were very apologetic that the cord had snapped already and mentioned this can happen a lot faster with dogs that need significant tension to keep their feet up as Austin did initially, luckily he's improved since then! They sent me a couple of replacement cords, that way I can change them as soon as they look frayed. It was a great response from the company! Before we got him the Toe-Ups Austin was having major issues with scraping his paws, now that he can place his feet properly and not knuckle over those injuries have been healing up. They've also helped him walk more which is helping him build up muscle (as opposed to being carried). His physical rehab vet mentioned he's been doing significantly better during his hydrotherapy because of this, and you can see in the picture below how much happier he is. Based on this interaction and how much they've helped, I would definitely recommend the Toe-Up device from OrthoPets. I'd keep an eye on the cords and replace them when they start to fray. Very bad service and ambiguous communication. I wasted 10 days just communicating with unprofessional team who doesn't answer questions yet overwhelm you with copy-based generic answers. Braces should be put on dogs's limbs as soon as possible for a successful treatment. Jordan sent me a huge email contains information I don't need talking about technical terms like a fiberglass. sending a video about what is a fiberglass is which I took more time to watch thinking that I am the one who is supposed to do this process because he was not clear telling me that it's not my job and it's supposed to be done by veterinarians. Why sent it then? He neglected to tell me that what they call a costume designed brace is not really custom designed . He just told me that my dog could be a candidate for their new brace. At this point, I was so annoyed by that dry and intentionally misleading communication and I had to tell him, please explain to me like I was four years old why I would choose your new brace over the other one, still no proper information was giving until I sent the pictures. after I sent the picture, they told me that my dog is not a candidate for a costume designed brace because of her build! Ha? I thought that's what costume designed means, it should fit every build! It's IN the name! The new brace they offer is like any brace you would buy online after measuring your dog which I would have bought long time ago and saved myself and my dog the waiting yet you have to fill another form and go to a vet to mold it on your dog! Please teach your employees clear communication. 10 days and we didn't even place the order. The fiberglass should be done by a vet yet there is no list of vets you work with in every city. The important information that should be In your first response to a client inquiry is 1) our costume design is not for every dog's build and we will decide that after sending the pictures but we offer another brace that you buy online after measuring your dog. 2) our custom design should be done by vets. When my dog bella tour her achilles tendon orthopets was great. She was ten years old and still had a lot of life to live, but had very difficult walking. I took her to an orthopedic vet who worked with orthopet, to customize a brace that helped her walk. Well, two years later, the brace broke down due to almost everyday use. I contacted orthopette and asked to have the he booty refurbished, which was about five hundred dollars. I even paid an additional sixty five dollars to have it done in a timely fashion.Because the dog couldn't really walk without it. Which I told them. I expected the booty to come back the same way I gave it to them. That did not happen, and it took about three weeks to get it completed and sent back. When the booty was returned, the tongue in the foot base of the boot was now towards the back when initially, it was towards the front. When I called to discuss this, I was chastised, being told that the that is silly, the only way the tongue stays is towards the back. I explained that I paid an orthopedic vet to do specific measurements for the dog, but they refuse to listen to me. Do not use this company.They are not good with customer service or fixing any problems that they made! read more

I would not recommend. The brace my dog was sent, cause my dog all types of break downs in her skin. Calluses started to developed around my dogs ankle area. I called them and sent brace, they did adjustments and still problems with calluses and skin breaking. They wanted me to send a video of me putting on the brace. I did that, then Everytime I called them is was trying this or try that. It would take my dogs skin about three to four weeks to heal completely up. I sent them multiple pictures of my dog having calluses and skin breakdown. Now I got a 1200.00 dollars brace that is completely useless. If your going to get a dog brace get from a company that will refund your money if they can't fix the problem. Do not get your brace from a company that want refund your money. Only received a $199 refund when we were informed it would be 80% of the $980 cost of the device! Our experience found OrthoPets to be very disappointing, and costly and most importantly resulted in the prolonged suffering of a senior dog that we have in our care. They believe that the dog was hit by a car or suffered some sort of severe impact while he was stray. The resulting injury left him with a lame rear leg. Our non-profit rescue organization arranged a Femoral Head Ostectomy surgery as a pain relief measure, but we were in need of a support system to improve mobility for the dog. Without improved mobility, his days would be very numbered. He was only able to take a few steps at a time and with much difficulty. We reached out to OrthoPets and subsequently provided complete medical records and several videos from different angles demonstrating the disability. OrthoPets concluded that the dog would benefit from a "stifle orthosis", (aka knee brace). We were then told to purchase a $!00 fiberglass mold kit from OrthoPets and take the dog to a local veterinarian to create the "impression" or mold of the limb, along with a lot of precise measurements of the dog's limb and body. Following this step, they again concluded that a $1,000 custom knee brace would help resolve the mobility problem with this dog. With all of the preparatory information, OrthoPets should have had the expertise to recognize that a knee brace would in fact not resolve the dog's mobility problem. The brace (received after 6 weeks), actually immobilized the dog by transferring more stress to the post-FHO surgery hip. Any attempt to move caused the dog to immediately collapse to the floor. It was clear that any use of this brace would cause further injury to the dog. We returned the device with a full explanation and videos of the dog attempting to move with the brace. Despite the obviously flawed assessment and complete failure of the brace, we were only offered a 20% refund of the brace only. All other expenses were out of pocket for us including the remaining $800 paid for the brace, over $400 in local vet fees, and over $150 for the fiberglass impression kit and shipping. When we challenged this partial refund, their reply was basically, "read the fine print in the contract." OrthoPets could have admitted to the failure and done the right thing by refunding at least the cost of the failed device but are apparently not capable of making these decisions over profits. They collect full payment in advance, which in fact made us very nervous. They did not stand behind their service or product. This failed experience cost our dog rescue over $1,300. Determined to help this dog, through more research we found a company called Walkin' Pets (handicappedpets.com), who after review of the dog's medical information and discussions recommended an adjustable ($425) rear dog wheelchair with two wheels. This device is working beautifully. This company also manufactures expensive stifle braces as well as hip support braces, but it was their conclusion that only a wheelchair device would provide the necessary support. They were correct and the dog is now able to take walks comfortably and with stability. Note that Walkin' Pets offered a 100% refund if the wheelchair device did work out in the first 30 days. We are now not surprised at all by the many negative reviews of OrthoPets and wish that we had considered those reviews before contacting them. read more

The brace they sent was not only not what I expected, it was heavy, clunky, and the sole looked like a platform shoe - for my dog missing her forelimb toes. But it did not stay on correctly. I sent it back a few times for adjustments, giving it my best, and Orthopets came back saying - "We've exhausted our knowledge, there's nothing more we can do". And when I requested a refund in whole or in part, they refused, pointing to a clause in the agreement they make everyone sign. If my dog didn't use the brace, I'd understand. But Orthopets couldn't make it fit correctly and then GAVE UP. I am so disgusted with Orthopets and was afraid to try this again with another company. Luckily I did. The brace I received from Animal Ortho Care is not only lighter, more articulate, STAYS on, it was perfect after one adjustment, AND I was able to get TWO braces for what Orthopets charged me for one - which as you know ended up being junk and they gave up. read more

It's been over 3 years, since my dog (who is currently a 13yo Australian Shepherd/Shetland Sheepdog Mix) has been using the OrthoPets' brace. Since her leg recovered so well, I currently only use it when I know she will be more active (such as going on slow jogs or going to the dog park). At the beginning of the process, I was told that the hard part of the brace had a lifetime warranty (life of the dog), but not the soft parts of the brace (which I would have to pay for). I have only had to replace the soft parts once, since my dog no longer needs the brace to walk around the back yard. I am updating my review because I am still so grateful to Orthopets for helping my dog be able to recover her atrophied muscles from her painful limping leg WITHOUT surgery. Of course my dog has some mild arthritis, since she is 13yo. But, she enjoys her very slow 1.5mile jogs and the dog parks with only a rare use of dog pain medication because the OrthoPets brace works so well. read more

Orthopets only uses certain vets. The only one in So Cal has a 30-mile range. Basically, if you don't live within 30 miles of the ONLY trained vet in all of So Cal, you can't go. I found a prosthetist just a few miles away from Paws On The Go (the only trained "specialist" in all of So Cal), who did casting on both my dogs front legs on the same day. He understood what was necessary for my dog and we've been happy since. Orthopets only uses certain vets who probably kick-back profits to them. I will never begin to reconsider this company, and I've been a dog-owner/lover/trainer for over 20 years. read more

We moved to a rural area which my vet recommended 2 of the orthotics for my dog's Achilles. 1. I got them and they ripped up my dog's legs, I do not have anyone in the area that can work on these. 2. Sent them in to try to get them to work where they do not. 3. I purchased these over the Christmas time where I ended up going with a more natural approach since my Labrador did not tolerate these. 4. I complained, asked for a refund and they were unwilling to help whatsoever. I would NOT recommend getting these orthotics for your pet. Being the big company they are, OrthoPets will have good reviews from people who are satisfied with their experience and products. However, I am not one of them. It was not the best possible experience, process, or outcome for me or my foster dog. Big doesn't necessarily mean better, and big doesn't work for everyone. I had hoped for an experience that I could learn from. Where questions, ideas, and suggestions could be exchanged, but communication and availability was lacking. The process was lengthy, stressful, and painful for my dog. I felt lost and rather excluded from it. The outcome was disappointing and unsatisfying. The prosthetic that was received completely differed from the picture originally sent. Their model of customer care was simply not a good fit. I received much more individual and personal attention from a smaller artificial limbs and supports company with an experienced prosthetist, who customized a prosthetic that is much better suited to my (foster) dog and more in line with what I imagined for him. coming up on 10 months since OrthosPets started treating Achilles and he is doing fantastic. He goes on runs 2-3 days a week, the other days just walks. Legs are superstrong now and so pleased with the non-surgical approach and the support and guidance from Orthopets staff . they have always been responsive and effective in their care plans. This is a great start-up business in Denver as well and I hope they grow because more people should be aware that there are more choices out there for your beloved pets that are less invasive that what the vets usually recommend. read more

Out Rottweiler Onyx was diagnosed 3 years ago when she was about 8 with a partially torn ACL in her right hind leg. The vet recommended very expensive surgery to be done immediately, which we were reluctant to go through with due to the expense, recovery period, her age and her weight (carrying a 115 pound dog around after surgery would have been difficult). We researched other options, found Orthopets, and contacted them to discuss options. They were incredibly informative and helpful, and helped connect us with a local vet who could do the required leg casting. The device arrived in a few weeks, along with very details instructions about putting it on her and the break in period required. They also had me take photos from several angles as well as a video of her walking in the brace and email it to them. I got a few additional suggestions on fit from them based on the video I sent, which was incredibly helpful, and which helped us get the best fit possible with the device. We sent the brace back after about 2.5 years to have it reconditioned, and it was fitted out with all new pads and straps. Onyx was able to continue running and walking and swimming and doing all the things she loves to do because of this brace, and we didn't have to put her through a very invasive surgery. We are incredibly happy with the brace, and are really glad we made the decision to get it. It has made a world of difference, and extended her active life by several years. read more

I have 20 months old 68 kg tosa inu female. My Kimiko torn her ACL around 6 months ago and from last 5 months we are using OrthoPets stifle brace. I am Polish so I would like to apologize everyone for my mistakes in English. I am also a veterinarian but I did consult Kimiko's leg with ortho vets. I have to say everyone was telling me that she is to big and to heavy for non surgical treatment but also Kimiko is a show dog and I was very worried that after surgery she would never be able to come back to the show ring again. So I found you guys on internet and I cocntact your office in England. I have to say that was my best decision ever !!! From now I am telling all show people to not risk the surgery and try the brace insted. Kimiko after 4 months of brace and rehabilitation came back to the show ring again and there is not even one judge who had any objections to her movement. Till now she was on 4 dog shows and she won everything. I would strongly advise that OrthoPets customers do not pay for the orthotic in advance. My mini Aussie sustained a triceps tear that required surgery. A rehab vet we were referred to by the surgeon conferred with OrthoPets and decided on a devise that did not protect the repair properly, and was so tight and uncomfortable that my dog probably would have lost his leg if we followed instructions and left it on over night. I promptly returned the orthotic the next morning, and the response from OrthoPets was that I signed a no-refund agreement and was required to pay in advance for the orthotic. My only choice was to dispute the charge thru my credit card! I am happy to provide more technical information to any that are interested or considering ordering from OrthoPets. I paid over a thousand dollars for the splint and an additional $500 to the rehab vet for fitting and ordering. My dog's surgeon is now sending me to a different company for a safe, appropriate shoulder spica orthotic. We have been working with Ortho Pets for 5 months now and Kayda has been wearing her Tarsus Orthosis devices daily with daily exercise and we are seeing huge improvements. Both her rear feet are in a normal position rather than curled under and she is very active and happy while wearing her braces. Our recheck appointments every 6 weeks with our local Vet are a breeze and our case worker from Ortho Pets is always available when we need her to answer questions. Paid a lot of money for a brace for our Charley. It split after around 4 months. During that time it had inconsistent use as it created a sore which Charley had to recover from. It was sent by the European agent to Orthopets in Denver to be examined and they told me it had been subjected to high heat and a large sheering force which it had not. Effectively they said I was lying when I told them there was no incident that could have resulted in any high heat or any excessive force. I was told it was out of warranty anyway which seems odd that I hadn't had it for 12 months. I had to pay to have it fixed and they refused to warrant the repair. Quite frankly I could have repaired it better myself and since the brace came back we have not used it on our dog. I certainly don't expect the repair to last very long. It's not the concept of treatment I object to but it is the very poor post sales service. Once they have your money they are not interested in you any more. We were sold the concept of the brace as a lifelong device for our dog. Seems they don't expect your dog to live very long. If anybody wants it I have higher resolution photos of the broken brace, the micky mouse repair and copies of all the communication showing you their attitude. read more

The 1 star is to applaud all that OP achieves with prosthetics, providing mobility and QOL to many compromised animals, and prosthetics should be their focus. But I give 0 stars for their stifle orthosis. My dog tore his CCL, and for the past 7 months his ill-fitting stifle brace has been through 6 revisions. It took endless discussions, photos, videos and back-and-forths to have OP FINALLY agree where the problem is. Unfortunately, they state they cannot be sure their latest idea to fix the fit will be effective. And of course, further adjustments will be at my expense. So, well over $1000 later, I have a detrimentally-fitting and totally useless brace. (I feel stupid for not initially realizing the OP "warranty" indicates they do not stand behind the accuracy of their product--they cover 2 adjustments, but there is no accountability for the success of those 2 adjustments.) But in the meantime, while all the brace back and forth was going on, I continued conservative management and PT rehab with my dog, without the brace. As a result, he is doing incredibly well, and is 95% back to where he was at time of injury. My recommendation to anyone looking to avoid surgical repair of a torn CCL is patience, conservative management, faithful PT, and FORGET the stifle brace. It is simply not necessary. And I have learned (too late) that even if the orthosis fits well, that it provides any benefit at all is very controversial, and it is certainly not supported by any scientific studies. read more

I'm very disappointed that I had to write this review. We were very excited about the orthopets brace, and experienced good results for the first week. Then, we started leaving it on longer and longer, and the she started coming up lame on that leg. Her pain became worse and worse and the limp became more pronounced the more we used the brace. We tried all the adjustments, but things never became better. As we were trying the adjustments, the "warranty" period expired. Orthopets wanted us to send the brace back for more adjustments and charge us for these adjustments. I refused to do this. Since discontinuing the use of the brace. The dog is walks without the pronounced limp, and seems to be in less pain. My vet says the brace is effective at holding the leg in the proper position. But the pain she experienced and the constant need for readjustments to a custom fit brace make me wish I had saved the thousand dollars and just had the surgery. So now he brace just sits on the floor, and my dog is much happier than when she wears it. I would not recommend orthopets to my friends. read more

My vet suggested getting a brace in response to my dog's lameness on her back right leg. He measured and made a cast of her leg ($400) and had the brace made ($600+). It was so tight fitting it took 15 minutes to get her into it (with the vets assistance). It took even longer when I had to do it by myself. After three days I noticed the brace was rubbing her leg raw and creating sores. Ortho pets said they needed to see pictures and video of my dog with the brace on. The problem was that it hurt her so badly she would nip at me and cry when I tried to put it on her so I was unable to get the photos which Orthopets felt was necessary in order to make changes. No amount of common sense could get through to these people! Do yourself a favor and avoid this company. If something goes wrong, and we all know things go wrong, you'll have a fight on your hands to get them to make it right. read more

Have only spoke with them for an orthotic brace for our 9 year old dog which has a ruptured ACL, thus far they were very pleasant and informative and will work with our vet. Their web site is impressive, however i'm finding out there is a lot of controversy on weather these products are useful in the treatment for this diagnosis (Torn ACL). They show a lot of great reviews, pictures and videos. So far all the doctors that i have spoke to in my area say surgery is the only solution or they are not familiar with braces for this type of injury. I will post more information as we progress thru this as we will move to a less invasive conservative approach first. My dog needed a hobble device after her shoulder surgery. I purchased the hobble vest made by orthopets. My surgeon provided orthopets with all of the measurements, pictures and videos that orthopets required. The vest did not fit and my dog was out of it in under 30 seconds. My surgeon called orthopets in order to determine what, if anything, could be done to fix the vest. They took hours to call my surgeon back, but she was in the middle of surgery. When they finally returned her call it was only to say that she needed to put the vest on my dog and send them more videos and pictures even though the surgeon told orthopets that the vest did not even have all of the straps that were shown in their online video (making us believe that the vest was improperly made). Unfortunately, by the time my surgeon was able to speak with them, my dogs surgery was already completed. My dogs shoulder problem was very advanced and I could not postpone surgery due to the improperly made, misfitting orthopets hobble vest. So the only choice my surgeon had was to hobble my dog with tape immediately after surgery, making it impossible to put the vest on my dog and provide orthopets with the additional information they were asking for. The next chance I had for my surgeon to put the vest on my dog was two weeks later when I took my dog to have her stitches and the hobble tape removed. I sent an email to orthopets several days in advance of that appointment asking that they please let me know how long it would take to fix/adjust the vest after my vet provided them with the additional information. Even though I got a receipt that they read the email, they never responded to me. My dog could not, under any circumstance, be without some sort of hobbling device during the remaining 6 weeks of her recovery, so I had no choice but to purchase another device to use for the remainder of her recovery period. So I had the cost of purchasing another hobble device on top of an already very expensive surgery. I learned my lesson the hard and expensive way - if you purchase a hobble vest from orthopets and it doesn't fit your dog right and you need adjustments, you better hope that you live right around the corner from orthopets, otherwise you don't stand a chance of getting any use out of their very expensive hobble vest! Our Bernese Mountain Dog tore her knee (cranial cruciate rupture) and we decided to go with the brace instead of the surgery given her age and health. We had to go to a special vet hospital in Seattle to get the custom mold, then return for the fitting. We then had our dog wear the brace as directed for the next two weeks. We stopped when we noticed it was wearing a hole in her ankle and returned to the vet hospital. It took two visits to the vet for Orthopets to get the right photos and identify the problem, requiring the brace be returned to Denver. They are making multiple adjustments, making me realize that the cast we paid so much for was pretty useless (it's too tall, it doesn't actually go over her knee...). I feel like we would be in the same boat if we had just gone with a standard brace and had it adjusted. Would save tons of money and lots of shipping fees (we have to pay for all shipping back and forth regardless of the fact that the initial fit was terrible). Plus keep in mind that the vet hospital charges about $400 to create the cast and do the fitting, so total cost is much higher than the amount you pay to Orthopets. Also keep in mind that, at least for a knee brace, getting the brace on is non-trivial. It involves lots of straps and unless your dog stands perfectly still it's very difficult, even for the vet (so I need two people, one to hold her still, one to put on the brace). To do it again I'd do the surgery or leave her limping. read more
