We were using Western Pest Control (a local business and a great, reliable family business) for many years. They inspected my mother's home in Baltimore for many years, so when I noticed a swarm of termites in my basement, I called Western. After a few years, Orkin bought them. We were not informed about the change, but received an invoice stuffed between our screen door and front door. We were sure that it was a mistake, but could not verify why we received an invoice from a company that we had not contracted with. It took a number of calls to find out that Orkin was now working with Western's customers. It has been a nightmare from Day One! The local office is a nightmare. They schedule appointments without your approval and will charge you if they come out. We had to beg them to replace damaged bait boxes which were overlooked during a quarterly inspection. When someone came out, he was abusive and told us that we did not need replacement boxes, even though the tops were missing from some of the boxes. They schedule you for service on and do not let you know. Then they just keep changing it for a later date when they don't show. They keep making changes to their scheduling program and their billing program. Several times this year their system has changed my appointment week, day and time, and not even contacted me. When you call the local office, they promise solutions which never happen . . . just more lies and confusion! Avoid them at all cost! It is beyond comprehension that they have any good ratings on Yelp. If you check them out on Trust Pilot, their ratings are 1.5 stars with 83% bad reviews. Check out local companies. Look for reviews on other sites. Avoid national companies as they answer to shareholders and not to customers. read more

I have tried to leave a Google review but was unable .. if you value customer service this is not the company for you, i called and asked for a same day service and after walking through the quote I agreed and they sent me the contract to sign, I was told the tech would arrive between 12 and 2 .. at 6pm and after no less than 20 calls that all went un-answered to about 6 different numbers ranging from branch to customer service i finally switched tactics and dialed the option for "new contract" .. lo and behold a representative immediately picked up !! Started new service one month ago with Capitol Heights office. Had an infestation over the past weekend and no one answered call on 24/7 number. On Monday was told they have no weekend service!! Despite infestation, they were not able to come until Wednesday, two days later! Then, scheduled an appointment during a time window and technician never showed up! I called and the person answering the call could not explain why my appointment was not met. Said it was the technician's fault. Whatever you do, do not sign up for this service. Totally unacceptable from what is supposed to be a one of the premier pest control services in the country. No wonder they have repeatedly been in litigation over poor service. read more

So, I've had an on and off again problem with ants in the kitchen, and here or there in the house. Its an old house. A couple of weeks ago, the ants went from being an annoyance to a huge problem -- I put terro down on the counter to get them, and within a few hours, there were hundreds. I put more terro down, and it became thousands. In desperation, I called Orkin, who scheduled me for an appointment the next day, Saturday, at 12, and hooked us up with a year pest control programme. Their price was better than any of the competitors, so I jumped. Around 8 AM, they called and left a voicemail to tell me that they wouldn't be coming, but instead would be out on Monday, at the earliest. Apparently, they'd had a number of calls, and were just too busy. I called back, and told them this was unacceptable -- you don't schedule an appointment and then, what? take more calls and schedule over that appointment? Not cool, and not a good way to start off. Plus, that's moving it from a weekend to a work day. Just what I want to do, jump off my work meeting for pest control; that's just a little embarrassing. So, they agreed to honour their appointment, and showed up. The inspector came out, looked around the house, and poked his head in the attic. He then came down and announced that we had a "huge problem" with mice in the attic, and recommended a $4000 remediation. The attic gets up to roughly 10,000° in the summer -- there's nothing living up there. A few years ago, we had the whole siding replaced on the house, and likely had mice in the attic before that, but rather than evaluate whether its an active problem or traces from years ago (tunnels in insulation), they tried to sell and spin it. I put traps up there for a week -- haven't caught a mouse yet. On to the main problem, the ants. By the time they got out here, the terro had done its thing, and the ants were back to nuisance levels. The tech sprayed everywhere, put down some bait and traps (which looked identical to the ones I had purchased at home depot), and the ants completely tapered off. Yay! Then five, six days later... they're back, at a nuisance level. A day or two after that, they're back to full blown plague. We've contacted Orkin, and haven't heard back. So, for $104, they basically did nothing I couldn't have done with $40 and a trip to Home Depot, and weren't any more effective. read more

We recently realized we had mice in our attic and Orkin came to take a look. Turns out the attic insulation our home inspector had said was "good" a year ago was actually new blown in insulation covering up old, so the mice had made a happy home underneath and between the layers. What they thought would be a one day job turned into two (full) days, but they didn't charge us anything additional. Shawn and Marcus were super friendly and professional, great guys who I was happy to have in my home. I was very impressed by how well they cleaned up both days, both in the rooms they were working in and outside. The work itself looks great (as far as I can tell) and they thoroughly and clearly explained the process along the way. I felt so bad that they had to do this work in a stuffy attic on an extremely hot and humid day, but they were so nice about it (I surely would have passed out)! read more

If I could give them a zero I would. After nearly 50 years, I'm canceling them. First they couldn't properly treat my mom's house for mice. We pulled the kitchen stove out to find 5 heaping dustpans full of droppings and mice running rampant in a clean house after they had supposedly been treating for them. Now they are billing my mom more than $130 every quarter and haven't been to the house in nearly a year. When I spoke to Jaylin, the only person answering the phone on Friday 9/16/22 in the MD branch, he was the nastiest, rudest a-hole I have ever had the displeasure of having to deal with. Who yells at a customer for demanding the service she's used to getting???? Orkin is supposed to schedule visits to treat the inside of your home. This d-wad informed me that Orkin is not obligated to do so, and can bill my mother, who is on a fixed income, $420 a year just to squirt around outside the house????!!! Puh-leeez! We are no longer going to be Orkin customers!!! Don't waste any money on people who could care less about your pest control needs!!! read more

I had pest control done (for mice) in October and paid almost 2000. i wanted to do a follow up just to check again and after many texts since December to the service manager, I have not received a follow up for it. The free follow ups feel like a marketing scam. The company claims they come anytime between services but they really only apply this to a two week - four week window, then they claim you're due for service even if on a quarterly contract. At one point even when I called within a week, they claimed no technicians were available for a month - but when I called back, they said they could come out the same week if I paid for a regular servicing. There really should not be continued pest problems between services for spiders and centipedes, things their sprays should kill and kill all eggs if properly applied. The schedulers are also rude, dismissive and fail to take notes so each time you call, you've got to explain the problem from scratch. Probably spent at least two hours with 4 different people just going over details. read more

What a horrible experience with Orkin! I signed up for service at several of my properties in January 2020 before the Covid restrictions happened. I received phone calls from field managers when I chose an attic treatment that cost a little over $3K. I got calls from technicians before they would come out to treat any of my properties. Covid happened and of course non essential services stopped. I didn't get any notice from Orkin that - they were classified as "essential." As a result I missed ONE PAYMENT of $97 dollars. When I reached out, I kept getting connected to the same rude young lady named Bayyinah. To make a long story short they reached out to my tenants and not me as they did the one service (outside of the house) I failed to pay for... Without speaking directly to me, they put that $97 dollar bill into COLLECTIONS. I'm STILL getting calls from collections after I paid the bill. I regret giving them my business. I wanted to honor the agreement and tried to switch branches from DC to Waldorf but they told me I had to start a new contract and treated me like I was delinquent thousands of dollars. read more

I wish I could give this company zero stars. They kept billing me despite the fact that they were not showing up to spray my house. I tried to get them to come out and spray to eliminate a roach problem I had. They kept cancelling. Then they said, "We promise someone will be out tomorrow." I took the day off and he never showed. When I called them, they said the exterminator had turned his phone off. Then I received another $100 charge for the no-show. I had to cancel my card to get them to quit charging me. This is a close to a criminal enterprise as a pest control company can get. Run away! read more

Technician could've done a better job. We believe that he was rushing and didn't take his time spraying or putting down traps and poison. We expected better for the price we're paying for the service. We will give it some time and see if we have good results. Our pest problem is mice and ants. A rough start did not get better and I have canceled my account with Orkin. The branch manager came to do a quality check at my house after the inspector who sold me the services never responded to my email or call and I complained loudly. You shouldn't have to browbeat people to whom you've paid a lot of money to respond to your concerns about the services provided. But, that continued even after the branch manager's visit. He said that they would contact me about options for a contractor to come fix the damage that his employees did to my house but I only heard from him about it (and a contractor) after enough time passed that I decided to just cancel my account. Another pest inspector had already responded to my inquiry, done their walk through of my home and surrounding property, and presented me with a detailed assessment of Orkin's work and proposal for moving forward by the time Orkin got back to me about fixing the damage they had done. Both he and fire fighters I know balked at the additional piece of advice I received from the branch manager - to put a screen on my dryer vent. I don't blame the branch manager. He is a very nice person who I think genuinely wants to be helpful. But, he's one guy with an entire territory to oversee. He cannot personally handle the services for every customer and Orkin made very clear that it cannot be trusted to provide the high quality service that customers are entitled to for the amount of money we shell over to them. I'm also pretty sure they charged me for a service visit for the week of Jun 7 that never happened (because I asked for it to be rescheduled for June 11 and by then had canceled my account - a process that was also difficult). My stress level has honestly gone down knowing that I am not going to have to deal with them anymore. read more

I cannot say how disappointed we were with our experience with this Orkin. They were absolutely terrible and provided terrible customer service. We saw rats in our yard and called Orkin. As a national company we have used them when we lived in another state and were very satisfied. This time was very different. They charged us to come to our house and did absolutely nothing. They kept sending messages they were coming to our house again but no one ever showed. We finally called and we're told they had come and saw the burrows but didn't have any poison boxes so they left. However they charged us and we paid. They said they didn't have any poison boxes which for a national company seemed ridiculous. We have them two weeks and they still said they didn't have the boxes. We canceled our contract but spent some money for nothing. Orkin cooperate should check out this location. They are definitely damaging the reputation. read more

I usually don't write reviews or notes like this, but my experience with Orkin was extraordinary. Last week I discovered termites in my parents' garage. I was cleaning out the garage in the first l place because my father just passed away. I immediately contacted Orkin, and 20 minutes later I received a call from James Brown (inspector). I told James that I was leaving to go back to NY soon and that if he could come today or tomorrow, that would be preferred. He said he would try to make it, but already had a full day of appointments. An hour later, he said he was on the highway headed to our house. When he got to our house he checked everything out and was patient and kind. He told me that his own dad passed away and that he understood what I'm going through. He also reassured me that Orkin would take care of the termites and whatever we needed from this point forward. He even helped me move the furniture in the garage to get ready for treatment. James said that once I told him that my Dad passed, he knew he had to get to our house. It was one of the most heartwarming experiences I've had with a service provider and I'll never forget his kindness. read more

I called around 10:15 and was told that the window is between 10 and noon, which I was never told. Then they said they will call 30 minutes before arrival, no call. What "professional" company never call, email or just don't show up? Never again! There service was horrible!!! I still have pest after spending all that money. When they did show up he put down sticky traps, I could buy from Lowe's. They never called before coming, if you're not home they claim they sprayed outside lies. Through out the whole service he would replace the traps that never caught nothing. I have been requesting Orkin for over to get a resolution to my issue i was having with their service either provide me with a refund or provide quality of service they advertised. I truly do not know where to start but my experience with Orkin has been one of the worst. I hope this helps someone out there to do their homework before committing to a service like this. I had read some reviews and considered the amount of years Orkin has been in the business and hoped they would provide the best quality of service. I have been proven wrong! after paying for services for over a year, I had hoped I would get my money worth as advertised. However, I have been disappointed not only they failed to treat the issue but also they assured me no one really cares about the quality of their service nor customer care as long as the bills are paid. I started escalating after one year of service advising them that the issue I was having even got worse, and each time I contact the call center I would be advised management will review and reach out. months passed without receiving a response and every time I reach out I get the same response and someone will reach out but yet they continue to send monthly bills. I finally called to discontinue service if the issue is not resolved no one reached out as of yet, it is funny I still get bills regardless. I do have email correspondences where management was notified to contact me. it has been almost a year now since I escalated no resolution! lessons learned interesting how they managed to continue having good reviews despite the lack of good service. I am currently with another service provider where I am in a whole lot different situation I wish I had done my do diligence of knowing alot about local Orkin than just going of off what their Google review said.
