Food is still decent hadn't been home to Detroit in years...Waves Inn is usually a food landmark for me...I asked the lady at the counter if her dad the owner was still living ...she snapped on me ...I was like oh pardon me...i must have confused you with the daughter of the owner...she continued to go off on me after i paid $41 for food... I remember the owner being sick back in the early 2000's the restuarant had gone bankrupt without him ...then reopened to Seafood Supreme...then back to Waves Inn... They had no hot sides available ...just fried food only...typical Detroit bulls**t...!!! Been going to this place for about 38 years now used to work at the old now defunct Olson Oldsmobile dealership up the street by Lahser I go back as far as when the mama owned and cooked everything so it's safe to say I freakin love this place I believe the son and his wife runs it now with the help of their son at time, anyways introduce all my friends and my wife to this place and they can't stop talking about it. It's was the saddest day when they moved to Dearborn fairland mall but so happy they came back to the original place there on grand river. I'm sure I took photos a couple time in the past but can't seem to find them. My wife and I ordered the whiting sandwich ( which they put enough fish on the sandwich for 3 people) cat fish sandwich ( another enough for 3 people) and a lb. Of jumbo shrimp fried to perfection. They have the best battered shrimp I've had in a long time. I'm not going to mark them down for this but they really need to utilze their phone to let people know when they are closed. You don't want to drive over there and their closed and it takes approximately 25 minutes for ypur order to be prepared...so you really want to call your order in. We hadn't been in years, and just happened to be in the neighborhood--so we thought we'd give it a shot. Boy, are we glad that we did! Please don't be turned off by the decor of the restaurant. Look past it, and you'll be happy that you did. We have a family of 4. We ordered a pickerel dinner, a perch dinner and a whiting dinner. We also ordered wings and fries for our picky tween. Each dinner comes with 2 sides. We chose collard greens (amazing, with a nice subtle heat), fried okra (so yum), green beans, and hush puppies. Everything was amazing! Fish was moist, well seasoned and well fried. Portions are very generous. We've got lunch for the 4 of us for tomorrow. No complaints. Will be back. read more

I was not ready for the flavor explosion from this place. It was amazing the food was nicely fried. It was not over seasoned, yeah it was great. I did not think it would be good. We got takeout. The inside was nothing special, but they got the order right thankfully. It took 30 min for our food but it was worth the wait. Go to this place if you love fried fish. We got 3 dinners, and 4 chicken wings, 2 huge long pickerel, a lot of perch, and a lot of whiting. This place gave us 2 sides for each dinner 6 in total. All of this for 50 bucks. Everything I had was delicious! Catfish, wings, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, yams, and even the banana pudding! The menu was priced fairly, everything I ordered was available, and service was exceptional! They were attentive, apologized immediately when the gentlemen forgot to put the banana pudding in the bag, and stored cold/hot god appropriately. It's the small things like simply apologizing and making sure all condiments are in the bag. Food is spectacular and surpassed my expectations, but the service is what will have me return as a loyal patron. I will definitely refer family and friends! Well, well, well. I've finally found a good neighborhood fish and shrimp place in the city of Detroit...sounds weird right? Seems like all the iconic past place like Dot and Etta's, Miley&Miley and O'Quin's and others alike of the past have dissipated. Now we have all these pop -up below mediocre spots that lack flavor and care. Welp. I've found a spot. I was told by a friend this place has been here for at least almost 20 years. I was told by the owner,ownership has changed but into the hands of family members... Now to the review. So when u head into a shrimp and fish spot u want it to taste like fish and shrimp right,? Well here it does. The grease is fresh. The batter is the best and sides include potato, salad, fries,fried okra,Mac and cheese. Others I can't remember the others.
