The Original Taco Pete in Los Angeles is one of those neighborhood spots that instantly makes you understand why locals love it. While visiting family, I casually mentioned wanting tacos, and before I could finish my sentence, everyone excitedly said, "You have to go to Taco Pete down the street and get the shrimp tacos." I drove just a few miles from my cousin's home near the Leimert Park area and found this Black owned gem buzzing with energy. It was close to closing, and you could tell they were still busy, but the team handled everything smoothly. While I waited for my order, a few guests spoke with the owner, who was kind and pleasant, taking a moment to chat with everyone in good spirits. I ordered ten shrimp tacos, and they were everything I hoped for. Crispy, flavorful, and seasoned perfectly. They were so good that I could have easily eaten three in one sitting without realizing it. The prices were reasonable, the service was friendly, and the food was top tier. Taco Pete clearly holds a special place in the community, and after one visit, I completely understand why. It is definitely a spot I will return to next time I am in Los Angeles, and maybe I will explore more of that hidden menu everyone raves about.

Colossal Burger

Got Taco Pete delivered to the crib from Postmates last night for dinner and it did not disappoint. FYI they have a deal on Postmates where you can get a BOGO deal for the Supreme Burrito and Colossal Burger right now. With a deal like that OF COURSE I took advantage, got 4 items plus tip for $41 bucks. We got the steak burrito and it was full of flavor and meat. Disclaimer, it is not your traditional Mexican burrito unless you order it that way. The Colossal Burger had thick beef part Ty and pastrami throughout which made it hearty. I will eat here happily again with no problem.

I looove their tacos! Especially the steak and shrimp tacos. They are very tasty, fresh and filling at an affordable price.

We waited 20 minutes for a colossal burger and a grilled cheese sandwich. I actually picced the place because it was black owned , wanted to support. The grilled cheese sandwich was on their "secret" menu. The cheese wasn't melted. Also asked for onion rings. Gave me fries instead . Colossal burger was good but not what I ordered . Had to share with my boo Disappointed because a simple grilled cheese sandwich and onion rings was all I wanted . probably won't return ‍

Tacos are a always a guarantee, but the shrimp tacos oh my gosh bomb. Today was the first try of the shrimp and I don't regret it the sauce and everything is bomb

OG Taco Supreme

My second visit and last 11/8/25. The Manager Aaron (Slauson/Crenahaw) should not be the manager of any establishment. He's rude and ignorant. I called to explan that the $4.50 taco supreme was missing sour cream, onions, and avocado (which are in season). He told me to bring it back tonight (I live 20 minutes away). Then he hung up on me while I'm asking the process to resolve. I called back, then he told me I had 2 days to bring in the receipt. And, hung up on me again, after I asked who is the owner. He said, "The owner is the owner" and hung up. This is all after they didn't give me fries in my online order. So, I had to wait for fries. Now, I'm here trying to make a change and warn people of the bad service, missing food, and food items. Money I spent but didn't receive the service. I was robbed. Aaron is rude, childish, and ignorant. OG Taco Pete on Slauson should not have this type of person working in our community. The taco was nasty and dry due to half the ingredients missing. I hope that was the reason. They will never see me again. Taco issue resolved. Sad, some businesses make it hard to support. Highly DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

A client told me to try them.amd I'm so.glad I did. Very friendly customer service and ample parking. I ordered the turkey taco special which comes with three tacos filled with guacamole, cheese, sour cream and fries and a drink. My total was about 20 dollars. They do not skimp on the portions. Each taco was stuffed and brimming with flavor! I got full after 2 tacos. Fries reminded me of the OG World on Wheels fries. They were a nice throw back. The cashier was very friendly and her nails were POPPING!!!!! They were gorgeous! I waited about 12 to 15 minutes because they make everything fresh. Food was still hot after a made another stop before home. I will definitely come again and maybe order the turkey burger. I'm sure it's gonna be fire! I wish they did nachos and taquitos! That would be AMAZING! They should also bring back the OG orange drink that kinda tastes like oranges n cream. These would make great additions!

Trashed! I'll take the loss!

Today was my first time trying OTP. I ordered three ground beef tacos and one Jr. Burrito. I did not like the taste or texture of the beef, yuck! I had to call and ask what's the difference between a hard and fried shell. The young lady that answered the phone was pleasant enough, but maybe I should have asked for the hard shell. She told me the fried shell would be like the tacos I make at home, that's what I should have done, made my own because these tacos don't taste like any I have made at home. My homemade tacos are actually good and have some crunch from the shell and the lettuce. Everything was just mushy. I can't comment on the ambience because I have never been to the restaurant and never will. IMO, Taco Bell has better tacos. I tried, but I refuse to eat shit.

Every single time I order from Taco Pete my order is incorrect. They never include hot sauce or napkins, and they charge almost 2 dollars for avocado that is never on the taco! The service is trash. Do better! What am I supposed to do with two dry tacos! I am working the polls and don't even have a napkin. Be for real !

The first time I went on a weekday in the middle of the day, so it was super empty and not the best because nothing was being made fresh- the meats and potatoes were kind of just sitting in bins so although the flavor was there, the cooled down temperatures really affected the taste. HOWEVER, I visited a few more times after that, these times all late at night, which really turned my experience around. I think at those times there were a lot more people and long lines, so everything was being made fresh and it being hot just made the food taste so so much better. I love how the toppings are all self-serve, and the hot potato is my favorite side. Carne asada, lengua, and al pastor are my go-tos. You'll want to add hellaaa green sauce to everything- I could literally drink that stuff straight. Love the big easy parking lot here, I'll mention that I saw a few security people checking all the cars and plates so I wouldn't recommend trying to park here and walk somewhere else!

I was able to snag two tacos for $4.50 that tided me over until dinner time. Now: bring your car because there's no place to sit! I arrived on foot, so dined standing up. Quite a variety of means - I'm a "safe" eater and enjoyed pollo and asada. I loved the self-serve salsas; the green salsa was delish and had a good little kick to it. Happy to have found this spot, and want to come back! 2026: 32/100

For for first timers, I'd recommend ordering the Villa's Trio which is what I got. Those come with the Ranchera Asada quesotaco as well as the Papas con Chorizo and Black Bean con Pollo quesotacos which are a trio exclusive. All the tacos were meaty, flavorful, and crispy. You honestly don't even need the side sauces since the tacos are already flavorful on their own. Great quality. I also got the Watermelon Agua Fresca which was refreshing, tasty, and sweet. Goes well with the tacos. I also got the Jamaica Agua Fresca, but that one was a bit too tart for my liking. The line can get long, so I would prepare to wait for up to an hour on weekends. There's ample free parking at the grocery store lot nearby. For seating and tables, it's limited and competitive. You just have to get lucky if a spot clears up as soon as you get your food. I also like how the restaurant handles crowd control. They allow a couple of people at a time to go inside, order, and get their condiments. You wait outside until they call you for your food. I like that it didn't feel crowded while I was getting my condiments. I highly recommend this spot and I will definitely be coming back.

Having been to so many taco stands, I think what makes Tire Shop Taqueria really stand out are the right-off-the-grill charcoal-grilled meats, the freshly made tortillas literally in front of you as you are waiting on line, and the free guacamole that comes with each taco. The ordering process is like any other taco stand, though one difference is here the salsas/guacamole are all handled by the staff. If you'd like more of something, just ask them instead of reaching for the ladle yourself. There is a separate area though for grilled onions/peppers and radishes you can serve yourself. I got the asada, chorizo, cabeza, and al pastor, and they were all so good. The asada and chorizo are specifically grilled over charcoal, and that flavor really shines through. I loved how meaty and tender the cabeza was too, and the classic al pastor hit the spot. They have large communal tables setup, so it is a great friendly vibe to enjoy your meal I will say, the surrounding area is not the best in LA, especially given how the taco stand is only open at night. The parking lot is quite small, so I parked on a side street that had some abandoned cars, but of course, if you are in/from LA, this is not that new for us. I would hesitate if I am a tourist though to make it out here. Anyhow, the food really is worth it here, and I can't wait to be back!

We only got the carne asada and the al pastor but it was so good we went back in line for seconds. The meat was very flavorful - the carne asada was thin but still very tender. The al pastor, I think uses a fattier cut than some other places but keeps it from drying out. The tacos were leaking meat juices still. The surrounding streets are quite dark at night but the parking lot the stand is in, is well lit and there is a covered seating area. We went on Thanksgiving weekend and there were maybe always 15-20 ppl in line at any given time. I imagine there are longer lines in the summer.

We ordered just a couple tacos - one asada and one tripa, based on reading numerous recommendations that those are what to get here. $3.50 a taco which is not bad for a restaurant taco. It's a cool casual vibe here. Seating inside as well as the patio. They have tasty looking horchata and other agua frescas. Colorful walls. They bring your food out to you by calling your name. The tacos were loaded with a pretty decent amount of meat and toppings. But sadly we were far from impressed by the flavor. The asada was okay and better than the tripa, but it paled in comparison to our go-to taco trucks in the area which only costs $1. And the tripa was strange to eat in taco form. The tripa is crunchy small pieces so it just feels odd to eat in a taco. Maybe if it was just served as an appetizer to eat by itself, but even then, it kinda just feels like you're eating pellets. Don't see the hype unfortunately.
