I came to Original Pattern as part of a large group and was bigly impressed with the ambiance and general vibe. The folks who run this place were super friendly. Because I needed to drive home, I drank only a single glass of the session beer (which had the lowest alcohol). This choice was 100% fine but did not knock my socks off -- probably because of its session profile. My drinking buddies got IPAs and such and seemed delighted with their choices. IPA lovers, this place gets you and is ready to make you happy. We normally don't do tastings but we decided to try a variety of their IPA's ($15). The beer tender was really friendly and helpful. We loved all 6 of our tastings (Dibble Dabble, Pure Imagination, Undeniable Speculation, Esky Crusher, Over Yonder, and El do to Nelson). The tasting was a really nice variety of different IPA styles (IPA, Hazy, DIPA). A couple of them were made with New Zealand hops (Over Yonder and El do to Nelson) and they had a noticeable creamy texture that we really enjoyed. For eats, Good to Eat Dumplings was onsite. I was hoping to try their dumplings, but unfortunately for me they only offered the pork dumplings (I'm not a big pork fan). Instead, I went for the spicy noodles, which were really tasty and had just the right amount of heat to get a little sweat going. My husband got the Ribeye Bao Sandwich. He really liked it. It comes with the same type of bun that you get when you order Peking Duck. We also really enjoyed their homemade chips ($5) - a must try! They are prepackaged on some shelves to the right when you first enter the brewery. Fresh made taste, very thin with a super crunchy texture, some subtle, interesting spices and slightly vinegary. A bit of umami going on. PERFECT beer snack. We purchased a 4-pack of the El do to Nelson ($17.99) and made our merry way home. Can't wait for our next visit. read more

As someone from the South Bay, I don't venture to Oakland often. However if you are looking for some of the best Hazys around you must try this brewery. You are welcome to bring in food and they have a pop up Citizen Pizza Kitchen that opens after 4. It is an intimate tasting room, and a good size crowd on a Friday afternoon. We went to listen to a friend's band, Polkageist West, who were playing one Saturday afternoon. The pub was active and there was a festive feel about it. It was quick work for ordering a pint and a small glass of their Oktoberfest brew. We headed outside toward the band and easily grabbed a seat. The band was awesome (of course they would be, my friend plays the drums!) and they were a lot of fun engaging people to participate in sing-a-longs. Date night for hubby and I. The Jazz music was good. The food from the dumpling pop up was pretty good. You place your order at the door and are given a buzzer that goes off when your order is ready. I stopped here last night for a beer. Their outside patio is cute and nicely spaced. I liked the bar stool and wine barrel vibes. Our server was prompt and helpful. The beers were all delicious. When we stopped by the other weekend, there was live music inside where people could enjoy from the first floor or second floor. Their selection is ever-changing so what I got might not be on the list anymore when you go. Their food when I went is ... gentrified Asian food. Lol it's not bad... I was just a bit confused. We got the pork dumplings and spicy noodles. The dumplings were pretty good, but the only spice in their "spicy noodles" is maaaaybe black pepper. Anyway, their vibe is your typical brewery vibes with tall barrels for tables at their outdoor alleyway seating. That probably sounds worse than it actually is. For Tuesday trivia night, it was really amazing. At first I thought this place was closed... actually most of the warehouse district looks like that. So I was pleasantly surprised to see how lively and fun it was inside. You get your food from the counter on the left as soon as you enter. Good To Eat Dumplings was serving up a whole lot of yummy. I ordered the spicy sauce noodles and small shrimp potstickers. You could sample some won ton like chips too while you waited in line. Lemme tell you, when it says spicy, they mean SPICY and I loved it. A few friends couldn't handle it but there's a tap where you can get water if you need to 'stay out of the kitchen.' The small size is misleading at first. The noodles are thick enough where you'll get full quickly after only one bowl. I literally brought half of mine back home, I couldn't finish. I tried valiantly though, with chopsticks no less. For your beers, head over to the bar. There's plenty to try out. I loved the Berrya 51 (sour), which came out a light plum color and was fruity, light and 'cute' to me. I'm not a beer drinker at all, cider and wine is my jam. But this was really good! Not sweet and just the right amount of sour. Plenty of seating--booths, tables and high chair options!--available for you and your friends. You'll definitely need it for your trivia night team (of course you're welcome to play solo)! The venue is really nice (indoor has high ceilings, outdoor seating runs with various options from benches to tables to high stools along the walls)! Lighting is warm-toned, so the mood is really comfortable if you're getting together with a few friends for a catch up. Staff are super nice and check in when they can. You can choose to where to sit and the staff will come over to take your order. My friends and I ordered the Kiwi Kush, Coincidental Calamity, and Pink Paradise. From my favorite to least, I would rank them 1. Coincidental Calamity, 2. Kiwi Kush, 3. Pink Paradise. The first two had a stronger fruit taste for me, which helped since I typically can't take beer as well as I do other alcoholic beverages. This brewery is almost brand-new, and is really bright and shiny. The first thing I noticed after I walked in was the high ceiling with bright lights. It's hard to describe the environment except to say that it's very bright open and cheerful. I had the good fortune to meet the owner, and he gave me a history of this business. The owner explained to me the German tradition of the kolsch type of beer, and how they serve it in these funny little canisters that you carry around. By tradition, these are just small glasses of 8 oz, and they are only $3! How could I resist! Wow I almost felt like I was in Deutschland! You could see the brewing equipment really easily. And if you walk around to the left you can get really close. The main thing I noticed was how clean and organized their Brewery equipment is. Being an engineer, I was very impressed. They have a beer menu, but they also do something really different. The different beer varieties are in picture frames on the wall to the right of the beer counter. I thought that was a clever idea. The day that I visited, a food business was out front selling dumplings to go with your beer. I met with the dumpling owner Angie, and she explained that they're going to be opening a facility the joining the brewery. So you can have all the dumplings you want! There is a lot to like about this business--great selection of beers, brand new environment, incredibly clean and professional-looking Brewery. There were lots of beers available and the space is really nice. We decided to sit upstairs, which was a bit warmer on a chilly day. Best beer in the Bay?! Quite possibly so, with Barebottle bringing the only true contester to first. Seriously though, the beer here is absolutely world class, everything executed to perfection. Inside decor is great: lovely exposed wood and steel, morphed perfectly into an open amd inclusive drinking experience. Upstairs open space broken out into individual areas to drink while maintaining the open vide. Downstairs you can sit in a cubby or at the bar, light and air flows freely through the entire interior. Outside seating also available. The beer is a divers spectrum from a Pils to BA imperial Belgian stouts, with all styles in-between. Personally, I think they have the best "new age" West coast beer I've had (ever??): crisp, clean, slightly hoppy and just delightful. We stopped in on a weeknight to grab a couple pints and were tickled by having the place almost completely to ourselves - I want to write this review with the hopes of changing that, because this place should be crowded every night! We pulled up a seat at the bar and perused the draft list. I'll say right now that *EVERY* beer is amazing. This easily ranks in the Top 3 of beer experiences I've ever had, and the other two include discovering Belgian beer in general and learning that you can hate IPAs and still be a cool Nor-Cal beer connoisseur. The brew-master (missed his name) knows his shit and is happy to regale you with beer wisdom; he used to work for 21st Amendment and has earned his stripes in brewing. My favorite was the Tripel - it was caramel-y and golden and amazing. We also went through the Kolsch, the Hef, and the Gose - also all the best of each type of beer we've had. If you're heading into a date night, buddy night, or have a ton of coworkers to entertain, come here. There's plenty of space to hang out and the place has a comfy industrial vibe (if there is such a thing). Being a few blocks from Jack London Square only ups the ante.
