I know I've had worse chinese food before but I can't remember when. This is the worst chinese food I've had in Las Cruces. Everything we ordered was tasteless. The kung pao chicken wasn't hot at all, no spice at all. The egg rolls tasted funky, the rice was awful. And even the fortune cookies were stale. Where do I begin.... This is not Chinese food. We ordered chow mein, if you look up chow mein in internet it's noodles not cabbage. My whole plate was covered in cabbage I mean I like cabbage but dang the whole plate was covered in it no meat it was supposed to come with shrimp and it was like they took one shrimp and sliced into 12 and battered that slither. I don't know where these good reviews are coming from, but make sure you check the bad ones before going here, so you can get a well rounded view. Picture this. You've had a long day running around town, you are on starving and your way home and say "oh, we should grab Chinese food!" So you grab it. You get home, exhausted, but stoked to crack open the Chinese food and put something on the TV. And then you get this garbage. Visually it doesn't look like any Chinese food you've had before, but you press on, because sometimes looks don't infer taste. The lo mein is, as far as I can tell, mixed veggies, Mr noodles (without the spices) soaked in oil. There isn't really much flavor, I'm not feeling it. Ok, on to the next. The spring roll was ok. A bit.. bready? Or maybe too much wrap. A lot of cinnamon. I can get behind new flavors, so this wasnt bad, but if I were to close my eyes and take a bite, I would not call this a spring roll. The orange chicken was weird. The chicken and sauce came sperate the chicken looked almost like boiled pieces of chicken, maybe the tiniest bit of breading on them, and the sauce... the sauce had a strange color. It wasn't like orange brown sauce. Or even a more orange yellow. It was neon orange. Traffic cone, high vis vest, I could see this orange chicken on the side of the road, orange. I closed my eyes and took a bite. There was no crispy. There was no spice. There was no semblance of any recognizable familiar flavor of any kind of Asian spiced anything. It was bland. If you told me I was eating sauce that was scientifically designed to taste like nothing, I would believe you. The chicken was chicken, but honestly was suspicious by association. I decided to try this place and ordered last night. The food is mediocre at best. The egg roll tasted like it had a load of cinnamon in it. The soup was bland. The egg foo young sauce was also bland and had no real taste other than the lumps of corn starch. The lemon chicken was ok though. My quest for decent egg foo young in this town continues. read more

We were visiting family in town and we decided to go to this restaurant because everyone was raving over it. So my husband ordered sweet and sour pork, fried rice and egg roll and I ordered number 6 on the lunch menu. We ordered the egg drop soup and wonton soup and the food was awesome! Everything tasted sooo delicious! The sweet and sour pork was crispy and tasted fresh. The cabbage was cooked perfectly and I ordered the siracha sauce and the egg rolls were excellent and they were stuffed very nicely and were seasoned so well. We truly enjoyed all of the food! We definitely are coming back! The waitresses were a great team, helping each other filling up our teas so we wouldn't run dry! Even the tea was excellent and the prices were very reasonable! The signage says that they have been in business since 1980. That is a pretty good indication of their business. Four of us went there today for lunch. Two had sweet and sour chicken which they commented was very good. My wife had the chicken with vegetables which she didn't think was spicy enough, however it was not labeled to be spicy. I had the Mongolian Beef in a plum sauce, which made the sauce sweeter then I usually prefer. My meal was still delicious. Service was very good. read more

Since moving here from Denver, we've been looking for a quality Chinese restaurant in LC. After reading the reviews, we tried Oriental Palace. Of all the reviews, I have to agree with D D. This is not quality food. The fried rice was simply rice with too much soy sauce in it. Egg soup was plain. Curried Chicken had no real curry flavor and was bland, and Mongolian Beef was not spicy and just weird, not like any MB dish I've had before. Alas, LC doesn't seem to attract the kinds of chefs necessary to open a good, authentic Chinese restaurant. Oriental Palace is another example. read more

Use to be my favorite place in town. The past three times I have come here the waitress has been very rude the portions went down so much and the prices jumped up. The menu still has the old prices on it but when you get the check to pay it's a totally different price! It's sad when these little local places go down hill so fast. This is a relax place to eat at. Those waitress are nice and fast, food and price at the place is good. The things annoy me are at this place is old, gaps on dirty wall, rations on napkins(when I ask for some napkins, lol. She just bring one). And what is with "celery" doing in a bell pepper steak dish? Don't they know the taste of celery is stronger then the bell pepper... well. This restaurant is an example of what good homemade Chinese food should be. It is always fresh and cooked to order. I can say with positivity that I have not had better Chinese food than this place (not even in El Paso). I have been coming here since I was a little girl and time after time it had always been a pleasant experience. I go about twice a month so if that doesn't say anything, then I don't know what does. The beef with broccoli is the best! There are always fresh broccoli, celery, and onion in this dish. The egg rolls are delicious, as well as the fried rice. The prices are so cheap! Lunch specials are in the $5-6 range. This restaurant is small and cozy with an old school feel. I've yet to be disappointed with this place. The negative reviews I've seen about this place are unbelievable because the many times I go are always on par. I definitely would recommend this place! Best in las cruces! read more

MOM AND POP ORIENTAL RESTAURANT.....AND IT IS NOT A PALACE. The Oriental Palace is a small mom and pop Chinese restaurant in a little plaza on Idaho. This is certainly "not" a palace. It has about twelve tables and offers nothing special as far as ambiance. To get to the restroom you have to walk through the kitchen. Yet, it is neat and clean enough for casual dining. Definitely not a place for a special occasion or a pleasant dining experience. The menu has many of the usual suspects for a Chinese restaurant but it seems to have a surfeit of chow mein offerings....a lot of shredded cabbage, carrots, and crispy noodles. Prices are very reasonable....the food is a good buy for the buck. The service I have always found to be friendly and somewhat efficient, but certainly not at the professional level. No complaints. It's just fine for a quick, casual meal. The food is prepared timely and refills offered regularly. When last there I ordered their MONGOLIAN BEEF. It arrived in a covered dish. In addition to the sliced beef there were the usual carrots, green peppers, and lots of onion (not scallions). The portion was hefty considering the price. The beef was tender and had a nice flavor. The sauce was a little sweet but pretty good. The meal was advertized as "hot" (as Mongolian Beef should be) but there was little heat to the meal. Overall, this was a decent presentation of Mongolian Beef but nothing unusual. This is "FAIR to MIDDLING CHINESE FOOD. Not bad but not great. When I sampled their chow mein I have found the food to be prepared fresh and beautifully presented. The veggies.....the cabbage and carrots were not limp and overcooked. The fried rice was just "rice" with no onion, eggs, peas, or carrot....just rice. The chow mein had little pieces of chicken in it, but the chicken lacked flavor. It was ok but not the most flavorful chicken. The food I had was somewhat bland. The sweet-and-sour sauce was not your traditional sweet-n-sour but rather strange. It too lacked flavor. All-in-all, the food at the Oriental Palace was ok but not something to go out of your way for. I do not find myself eager to return. But, it's all right in a pinch. What to expect if you go: A small, casual restaurant, ok service, good prices, and sort of fair Chinese food. Restaurant rating = THREE-AND-A-HALF STARS....meaning, better than average dining but not reaching the level of a really good dining experience. The food itself isn't bad however. Coming from the west coast I am familiar with Chinese food and the food here is not what I expected. I tasted everything on my plate but ate nothing. Maybe a new cook using untraditional recipes but I can buy frozen dinners that are better tasting than what we had today. So far, Oriental Palace is the best place I have found for Chinese food in LC (a town that has never been known for good Chinese food). My wife and I have tried a handful of plates and have enjoyed them all. The standards, like Kung Pao Chicken, Cashew Chicken, and Egg Drop Soup are very good and traditional by American/Chinese standards. The BBQ Ham with cabbage is delicious and makes for a great combination of flavors. They do everything well and stand far above most other similar restaurants in town, all of which I would rate closer to two stars. Aqua Reef, which has some Chinese entrees, may be better on a plate by plate basis, but they have very few Chinese items. Oriental Palace is definitely not the best I have ever had, but is easily the best Chinese restaurant in LC. read more

Found this place using Yelp while searching for something other than Mexican to eat in Las Cruces. It is located in an office park, and was empty upon arrival. A hidden Mecca for those seeking fresh, made to order Chinese food that may not be crazily spiced but has authentic home made taste at a super reasonable price. Many locals eat here at least once a week and have favorites that provide comfort and stability and health. I think this is also the best place in LC for Chinese food. Prices are affordable, food tastes good, servings are more than enough. Waitress was friendly. What more can you ask for. I've tried several other places, Aqua Reef is overpriced, servings are small, food wasn't so good. This was kind of hard to rate because Chinese Palace is kind of small, a friend asked me to have lunch with him there and I was more than surprised and pleased. VERY good prices, very good food, very good service. Showed up when my friend said because he said you have to show up early because it fills up quickly at lunch, they had two menus a lunch menu and a dinner menu that they serve off of for lunch. I ordered sweet and sour pork which was very good in fact good enough I ordered dinner to go to take home for me and my wife. My friend and his wife "shared" a plate which surprised me at first but after eating my lunch I realized that I was taking home enough in my leftovers for dinner (but it was too good to last until dinner) so his having been there before he knew it was enough for two. He also was right because for lunch on a Thursday at a place off the beaten path it filled up by noon and a lot of people were ordering takeout..... i'm down from albuquerque visiting with my 80 year old mother who loves chinese but can never get out to have some.so i decided to try this due to all the rave reviews. it was nasty-smelled weird, tasted off. we got fried rice-which was white rice with grease and soy sauce on it-no egg or veg-not 1 crumb. the red sauce they gave us in a cup for the egg rolls tasted like perfume and rendered mine inedible. my mom said no loss, they're pretty bad. the egg foo young wasn't palatable and got scraped into the trash. the chicken moo goo gai pan was not even close to moo goo-but was the best dish we got-which isn't saying much. but at least it was edible. i picked up take-out at dinner time and there was only 1 table with 2 people in the entire restaurant. the girl at the cash register was friendly and nice and the food was ready when they said it would be. but that's the best i can come up with. i'm guessing they're writing their own reviews here because this is by far the worst i've ever had. read more
