We been living in the area for about 4 years and have never tried this restaurant. Our experience was actually better than we expected. Four of us went to the Chinese Kitchen today for lunch. We tried 4 different entrees and all of them were very good. Service was very good. I'm sure that we will be back again.

I had a bunch of onions in my bowl and all these onions were still left over from the "Mongolian beef."

I've tried this place a few times to give it a fair shot but I think I went for the last time today. The first time, it was like the dollar scoop places. The sweet and sour chicken was bland and cheap tasting with overly sweet sauce. The next time, I only got egg drop soup which was good but the girl who took my order over the phone was RUDE. Didn't give me a total or tell me how long it would be, just said ok and hung up on me. I called back to ask for that info and she snapped it out at me, then said ok bye and hung up on me again. This final time today, I ordered lo mein and Mongolian beef. The lo mein is made with thin rice noodles and the veggies and beef were just put on top of them instead of being mixed in. The noodles don't have any real flavor. the Mongolian beef... is not Mongolian beef at all. It's 50% white onions and 50% beef in a RED chili pepper sauce. It's just not Mongolian beef at all. The only nice thing I can say is that the younger man who cashes out orders is very nice. Unfortunately I'll be continuing on in my search of decent Chinese food in Cruces.

This is quiet and friendly place to eat. Also it's a place people just order their lunch take out. Friendly staff, good service, reasonable price.

It was quick and the food was good. The drive thru was a true drive thru we just paid and the food was there.

The Golden Star's exterior...particularly the grounds with all the weeds...does not give off the best impression. But, inside the restaurant is nicer than you might expect looking from the exterior. It is roomy enough and clean and comfortable. As you walk in you are faced with a counter with pre-prepared food in warming trays. An efficient and friendly Oriental lady fills a styrofoam basket with the food you desire. She had me all set within one or two minutes. The selections are limited and much of the online menu is not available. Today I ordered combo "C" which comes with three offerings along with fried rice and lo mein noodles. They also include a very small little spring roll along with your meal and a couple little packets of soy sauce. I wanted to try Mongolian beef but it was not available. I also wanted to try their curry chicken. No luck. It was not available. I ended up with their "spicy beef" which is virtually the same as the Mongolian beef, General Tso's chicken, and Kung Pao chicken. The tiny spring roll included free with the meal was chewy and had virtually no filling. It was tasteless and a total waste. Why bother? Rate it a "D." The spicy beef was tender and the flavor wasn't bad. Not great, but not bad. Rate the beef a "C." The Kung Pao chicken was a bit sweet and had a nice flavor. It was fairly good if a little chewy. Rate it a "B-." The General Tso's chicken was very similar. It was ok, but nothing great. Rate it a "B-" also. The fried rice was undistinguished with virtually no egg, carrot, or onion. It was very plain. Rate it a "C+". The lo mein noodles were not too oily as I recently experienced at the Panda Express. Rate them a "C+." So, at the end of the day, the Golden Star is a clean and comfortable place for a quick, casual meal, it has pleasant and quick service, and very reasonable prices for very average food. Rate the total dining experience around THREE AND A QUARTER STARS...meaning ok for fast food. Nothing to write home about. Five star reviews for this place??? Yelpers, you can't be serious!

Better than average Chinese food. And yeah, to me that's a 3…read more The place has such an interesting name for a Chinese restaurant. They've already "decked the halls" and there was Spanish music playing. All in all, just an interesting experience. Anyway, for food I got the Big Mama Special ($7.99), which includes a bit of everything: 1 Egg Roll: Average 1 Tempura: I could see this being a favorite for people-it was kinda like bettered & fried lo mein, but not super greasy. It was good 2 Cream Cheese Wontons: I appreciate they didn't throw fake crab in it and call it crab Rangoons. It's straight up a wonton with cream cheese in it. Broccoli: very good! 2 wings: good-they were boneless and probably the sesame flavor, looking at the wing flavor list. A little chewy, but not bad. Again, average Chinese chicken. Sweet & Sour Chicken: very different from other Sweet & Sour Chicken. It was battered, but definitely not greasy at all, which is great, and the meat seemed to be of good quality inside. Rice: I subbed the rice for lo mein for $1. I really liked it! Great flavor, thin and flat noodles Overall, I thought it was the least greasy Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. It's good for an area that doesn't have many restaurants. I got my food fast, and for the price, it was great! I couldn't finish it all.
