Quite a bit of back and forth on this particular restaurant within the reviews. It is conveniently located next to the Hampton Inn on East Griggs and very easy for a traveler to pop over. I asked at the front desk their opinion on the place and it literally had mixed reviews. It was late and I did not want to go anywhere else at a long day of travel so I walked over. You pay for the buffet as you enter. Price to inlcude drink was around $14.50. Proceed to your table with your ticket and one of the wait staff will get your drink. Not very crowded when I went. Fairly large selection of soups, appetizers, entrees, sushi and dessert. I will say that some of the product on the line looked fresher than others. Checked out the sushi and spoke to the chef who was preparing it. Wanted to make sure it had not been sitting out too long. He assured me that it was recently prepared and asked me if there was anything in particular I might like (very nice). Got a full plate and cautiously dug. It was very good. Went back several times and the chef even prepared something special for me with mackerel. I was pleased with the sushi. I did not really get much from the hot bar, but what I got was okay, perhaps a little dry from sitting too long. So, an acceptable meal. read more

My daughter & I were craving sushi. Seen this. We went there. Huge mistake... The sushi was bad. There was less amount & the avocado were old. We didn't get to eat some. Then, went in line for food. Some food wasn't as flavorful as my husband wanted, but I'd say if it doesn't have the flavor punch you're looking for, there's lots of other options. I was pretty satisfied with everything they had to offer. Food was continuously coming out, so it was hot and fresh. For the price you pay, it's 100% worth it. Service was on par. They charge dinner prices and are serving lunch food. I came in at 5:00 PM paid dinner prices. Went to get hot and sour soup there wasn't even enough to fill a bowel even if you scrape the bottom. I had to ask them to put out more. The chicken was extremely over cooked and only room temperature. I understand they have no competition for a Chinese buffet in this town, but that is not an excuse for this type of quality when charging premium prices. Our dining experience was horrible. It was Memorial day, May 30, 2022 the two Chinese employees where fighting in Chinese in the dining area. They were soooo loud! Everyone heard them, saw them. It was scary.They could have handled it differently. It did not only happen once but more than three times. We arrived at 11:00 and were greeted by an arrogant cashier who clearly was unhappy with her job. I sampled the sushi first and found a large variety of items and they were all freshly prepared., which is why I didn't rate them with one star. I work all the time in Las Cruces and by the time I end my day I usually grab something on my way to hotel next to Grand Buffet. Well tonight I got off early and after a lot drive from Northern New Mexico I was starving. So I figured I'd give it a go. To say the least nothing really looked appetizing... Most of the food was luke warm at best. The pork... well let's just say the sole of my boot would've be easier to chew. The selection was vast but the place was kinda dirty... and it made me skeptical. So I stuck to stuff that was cooked and not from the sea... I stayed till about closing time when they started cleaning up. I did notice that they would pull the trays from the warmers and cover them as if they were going to reuse the food for tomorrow... not sure about that but just my guess. I got up and got some ice cream which was more like milky... flavorless slushee. While I was up the lady who never waited on me cleared my table and I didn't have a drink. She did offer me a new drink but that was the only time I saw her. Probably won't come here again unless I absolutely have to.... but then again I'd probably just walk to Walmart and get some microwaveable bullshit in a box because it would probably taste better. read more

Possibly the worst place I ever ate at. A lot of the food was dry or not tasty. The cheapest Chinese food of any restaurant I have been to. The floor is sticky where you get your food and plates (entire buffet area. The napkin holder on the table looks like they cleaned it maybe 3 years ago. Dirty and finger prints all over the top. The carpet was especially dirty and had a funky smell. The carpet at my booth and other areas have crumbs and are just plain nasty. This place is in need of some serious cleaning. The waitress brought a cup of water, not sure if she knew any english and was a Zombie to us. Absolutely zero customer service skills. Not friendly or inviting and looks like she can't wait to go home. The lady working in the buffet area is another walking Zombie. I am surprised that this Chinese Buffet restaurant received poor response. In my opinion, the food is above average and the location is excellent ( right behind Walmart on Lohman) and the price is ok. Maybe some Yelper did not like their service as I also sensed the "typical" Chinese attitude of some servers (no offense intended. The hospitality is mediocre, they all have attitudes and will only see you once or twice during your time there. So when I showed my ID the lady said no sorry you're not a student it says you graduated. I told her politely, "I'm getting my Masters so I'm still a student." I've only been here once last month as I was driving through NM to get back home to CA & I can honestly say this place was the best Chinese buffet I've ever been to. Decided to try out since we just arrived in town for event and it was right next to hotel. Not the best/worst buffet I've been to. The waitress was attentive. This was the first time eating at Grand Buffet and for that matter in the building that used to be another establishment. First of all, I agree with a former review, things could have been better labeled. The Lo Mein was delicious by itself, even improved with addition of Mongolian Pork. Some items were good, and some others were edible, but not tasty (mac-n- cheese, and egg rolls). I usually like rice pudding but the dessert here was way too sweet for my taste buds. This business has changed hands in the last year or so, and not for the better. It's now called Asian Buffet. It's been newly redecorated, and the interior looks nice, but oh my, the food appeared to look good in the trays, but looks can be deceiving. We ate there late afternoon, December 17, 2018, and were looking forward to enjoying the food the way it used to be, but left bitterly disappointed and still hungry. Every single thing we tried on the menu was just worse than lackluster, it was just flat awful. My guess is this buffet will self destruct before long unless they make some major changes to the quality of cooking. The $30 we spent, $12 per person and for two drinks was a waste of money.
