First time at Sakura but I've eaten at many hibachi type restaurants. We went with a group of ten and generally everyone enjoyed their food. I had the steak hibachi with shrimp and most others had the same. Some had sushi rolls which they said were good. The decor felt a bit dated and the air conditioning was poor in the part of the restaurant we were in even before the hibachi grill started. The food was ok generally with the typical preparation and show with fire and rattling of cooking utensils. I found my steak a bit overcooked and it needed a side sauce to give some extra flavor. The accompanying vegetables were fine with a mixture of broccoli, zucchini, onions, etc. The fried rice was terribly undercooked and crunchy. I took only a couple bites and couldn't eat the rest. Overall, it was a typical hibachi experience with nothing special food wise or presentation wise. It's ok if you want to take kids out for their first time to a hibachi or maybe if you want sushi but there are other options around town or in El Paso for Asian cuisine. read more

On our first night in Las Cruces, we decided to get dinner near our hotel and mix up the cuisine a bit, so we settled on Sakura. I would say that the effort put behind the food is high, but sometimes when you overreach you tend to miss the target. The food was fine... the fried rice was very salty due to the high amount of soy sauce it was drenched in. The proteins were adequate, but had "rubbery" texture to it which makes me believe all the meats are frozen, then thawed for service. I'm thinking back on the meal and nothing stood out... In terms of service though, the team is enthusiastic and the cook certainly put on an entertaining dinner show! read more

Absolute shit. Ordered the Filet hibachi RARE. My family is in cattle so I don't f around with beef. This was terrible...actually, it was worse than terrible. Will never be back. Ordered through Uber Eats because I am in town on business and have already worked 20+ hours. My driver, Malachi, was awesome! High 5 that dude for making the best of a bad situation. read more

I've been to Sakura twice now and both visits have been fantastic! The lunch specials are reasonably priced and the food is consistently high quality. The servers are friendly, and the ambiance is quiet and relaxing--perfect for a casual meal. The first time, I tried the sashimi with a side of rice (for an extra charge) and it was delicious. On my second visit, I had the two-roll special with Alaska and Philadelphia rolls--loved that there wasn't too much rice on the rolls. My husband had the hibachi steak, which came with fried rice and flavorful ginger and yum yum sauces. Everything was excellent, and we'll definitely be coming back! read more

This week, on May 11, my wife and I went to Sakura to celebrate a belated anniversary. My wife had been there before and for me it was my first time. I had made the reservation for 5:30 pm for Hibachi. We were sat next to a mother and her teenage son. My wife and I ordered the Seafood Deluxe dinner. The other diners one ordered chicken and the other one the filet mignon. The cook was as expected a showman preparing the food in front of us. The placed a selection of vegetables on a side of the grill and then on another section of the grill he added ingredients to the rice to prepared fried. On different sections of the grill he placed our selection of seafood and then separately the chicken and the steak. He asked permission to send flying a piece of zucchini for to catch with our mouths. A couple of times he offered to us Sake with a squirt bottle and my wife and I accepted a shot. He waited until all the different proteins were cooked to serve us all. The quantity and the presentation were great. The seafood was hard, overcooked and not so flavorful as I have had it in other Japanese restaurants. The fried rice was also overcooked. The seafood was tough because he waited until the chicken and the steak from the other diners were done to serve us. Not a celebratory meal as my wife and I had expected. read more

Noisy, dark environment, food not great. Over rated in my opinion. Will not go back, waste of money.

Las Cruces is starved for passable Asian food and Sakura is serviceable. Nothing amazing about the food but nothing to complain about either. read more

Didn't do the grill table so I was able to be seated upstairs (surprise! There's an upstairs!!) quickly. It was quiet, which was nice but we were not ignored which is always a fear when you sit somewhere outside the exciting places or where all the action is. That wasn't the case here, staff was attentive and pleasant. Prices are decent and the food portions are pretty good sizes. Food was flavorful. I'd consider coming back here. I know several people really enjoy this restaurant. read more

I moved here from the east coast and have been hesitant to try sushi this far from water. Until Sakura, I've been disappointed. I ordered a lunchtime teriyaki bento box with salmon and it was delicious. The salmon was crispy on the edges and not overcooked. The teriyaki was perfectly flavored without being too sweet. The miso was just right in temperature and had plenty of seaweed and tofu bits. One miss was that I asked for no cucumber in the California roll, and there was cucumber. It's ok, I just push the slivers out and enjoy them anyway. And I added a yellowtail roll. Oh yes! The fish was melt in your mouth texture, perfectly balanced with the rice and seaweed wrap. That's the bit that will make me go back and try rolls and not kitchen items. I'm happy to have found this hidden gem, I thought it was hibachi only! read more

Never got to the food the service was so bad slow and rude. Unbelievable how they treat the customer. I would leave ZERO stars if possible.

Never a bad experience! Hibachi grill is always a treat and the sushi is great! I have been many times lunch or dinner! Good service!

I don't usually leave bad reviews but this place is terrible. We ordered Yaki Udon shrimp and hibachi shrimp. The noodles were slimy and gross. The fried rice was bad and the shrimp in both dishes tasted weird. read more

Sushi and service are excellent. Fatty yellowtail used in mini sashimi.. yes! It could be cleaned better inside the restaurant.

Went here almost every Sunday for about two months for sushi Sunday and loved it! She would order the shrimp, fried rice, the green tea, and two sushi rolls While my order was the steak fried rice with two chicken tempura rolls With a bottle of sake to share ! Service was always on point and if you go regularly, they will remember you :) For date night, I would recommend the Sakura for two read more

Such a rip-off. The rolls are TINY and mediocre tasting at best. My wife liked the tempura, but the poration was also small. I can not in good conscience recommend Sakura. Don't waste your money. The Asian Buffet is better and half the price. Sakura couldn't even get a seaweed salad made correctly and charged $8. I'll never order from here again. Total trash sushi at gourmet prices. read more

The food was about the same as usual. We ordered seafood deluxe. The service on the other side straight up sucked! After informing the waitress that my coke had no carbonation, she gave me the option to get a different drink instead of fixing the problem. The same thing happened the last time we were here( different waitress) I guessing they haven't fixed it ? Lol, Anyway, after bringing our food and my water she never came back to check on us. She did spend quality time with her other waitress friend in their corner spot. She passed by a couple of times and even sat by to eat and never checked on us. Of course when we were leaving, she was overly friendly " Thank You" . I was thinking , this bitch is bi-polar or something. So I left a tip for her- the service sucked. Hopefully this shit does happen to other customers who pay a pretty penny for this crappie service. With that said " good luck to you" from formal customer read more

Great spot! I've been looking for a very decent sushi place here in town for over a year now. Hands down one of the better places. This was hard to find being from Bay Area of California this gave me the flavor the fill and helped with that craving for it. When we first walked in we were greeted with a "Good Evening, how many in your party and what are you interested in?" (Asking Hibachi or regular dining) The place was clean no trash or food on the floor. All the tables were clean no dishes from previous parties and NOT STICKY! Over all the prices were great. For the amount they serve. Remember FLAVOR is what's here. The seating is comfortable just a little tight ( in layout of floor) but over all great peaceful ambiance of the place. Your not over crowded by everyone talking or walking past your spot. Depending on where your seated you maybe able to get a show from the hibachi tables while they are cooking. The only thing I was disappointed about was women's bathroom, they only have two stalls both of decent size. However someone from earlier that evening drink too much saki and puked in the women's bathroom and didn't clean up after themselves. They should have told the employees about the mess they made in the bathroom) I told the lady upon leaving the restrooms. And they got to tending it rather quickly after I mention it to them read more

My sibling and I decided to have sushi for dinner. Coming from California, I didn't have high expectations but definitely wanted to fulfill my craving during this trip. We came with thirty minutes to spare since a lot of places tend to close early in Las Cruces. Of course since I'm not a local, it was something to adjust to but we were still treated with kindness and efficient service. Our orders came out super fast upon ordering. There was a few other parties that were doing hibachi so I was surprised at how quickly our orders came out. The food was good, my favorite would be the volcano roll because of the crispy exterior. I'm not a big fan of ponzu, so I didn't enjoy the blue crab avocado and uzumaki roll as much as I wish I did. However, the fish was fresh and delicious! Our server let us know that we can take our time eating and that there was no rush leaving. That was very sweet of them since there were multiple parties still present after closing. I would come back here again if I'm in the mood for sushi! They have other items on their menu as well if you're not a seafood person, and their portions are shareable! read more

This is my go to restaurant for sashimi! To get the best bang for your buck I would recommend coming in for lunch instead of dinner. I would also recommend this restaurant for a celebration dinner since they have party platters. Party Platter:4 stars While they are expensive they're a better price then ordering individual rolls or sashimi. They are also more decorated so it brings in a wow factor to a dinner. While the sashimi wasn't the freshest I've had it still tasted good and were sliced perfectly. Sashimi box: 4.5 Compared to the Chirashi I think this item gives a better bang for the buck while satisfying your craving for sashimi. However, the salad is a bit disappointing due to the dressing and is a bit underwhelming. This is my go to item when I come here. However, there is less sashimi then in the chirahi so if you want more sashimi I would go with the chirashi instead. Staff:4 stars The staff are always courteous but if you're seated upstairs there might be long stretches of time when you don't see them. Disclaimer: I am not rating this restaurant in comparison to restaurants in Las Cruces and not to restaurants in Houston or El Paso read more

I was not impressed. Had dinner here a couple of weeks ago before heading back to the mountains, and there was something fundamentally wrong with the sushi. It wasn't that it tasted bad, it just wasn't... good. It took me a couple of days of thinking to figure it out: it was the rice. I don't believe it was the proper white rice. The lighting was on the dim side, and I don't normally take photos of my food, thus I have no proof. It almost tasted like brown rice, which would be a very serious faux pas, I can't prove it and I really hope it wasn't! But when it comes to sushi, the rice is critical. It has to be the correct flavor, texture (stickiness), proper amount of vinegar, and depending on the type of sushi that you're getting, needs that little shmear of wasabi. There was just something distinctly wrong with the rice. I had fried spring rolls, a Philly roll, tamago - they list it as their egg omelette or something, and smoked salmon sashimi. The tamago was decent, though I wish they had used the correct name especially as my waiter didn't know it. Regardless, it isn't an omelette. Their iced tea wasn't very good, clearly over-steeped. The spring rolls were decent, served very hot, but not enough to redeem the sub-par sushi. Will I return? Probably not, there are other sushi places I'd rather try, plus I found out that an old favorite is still open. The place is a bit of a dump, it needs a top to bottom revamp. There's absolutely nothing here to entice me to return. read more

So, I ordered the peppered tuna and chicken skewers from the lunch menu. On the lunch menu the tuna is $4.38 , I was charged $16.50 for maybe 2oz of tuna. Come on!!! See the pic. It was food but so tiny!! They can do better. read more

I would drive out of my way in a heartbeat for their Kani salad! It is so delicious! The salad is basically a California roll in a bowl with spicy Mayo. This is not my first time here, in fact, it is one of my family's favorite. I decided to order something different and new this time so, I ordered the chile tempura as an appetizer. I was not impressive. It looked uncooked or raw, and tasted like nothing; no hotness or spicy. Next, I ordered the pineapple seafood rice, which definitely came in a half pineapple and looked good, but in reality there was very little seafood compared to the rice. read more

Low quality beef, dirty and becareful of the sushi. The entire restaurant is filthy.

We are at the hibachi table. Our protein and veggies were over cooked and the fried rice was undercooked and salty,

Came here on a Friday night after a day at White Sands. Based on the other reviews, we were hoping for a much better experience. First off, we were crammed into an upstairs seating arrangement that was very crowded and next to a large hibachi grill group who were being exceedingly loud. I could barely hear any of my friends across from me. The food itself was okay, but it arrived an hour after we finished ordering and most of the hot entrees were barely lukewarm (besides the udon soup noodles). I believe many entrees had to be transported via a food lift upstairs but that is still no excuse for nearly cold entrees. On top of all of this, they charged 18% tip by default, which was not disclosed beforehand. We were a large party, but this is something that is better disclosed ahead of time than a nasty surprise at the end of our visit. Additionally, the bathroom reeked and the faucets looked like they have not been cleaned for months. The windows had signs saying to not touch the windows because they could fall/break and customers would be liable... Needless to say, not the best dining environment either. Due to the long wait, nearly cold food served to us, and the undisclosed 18% mandatory tip, I rate this establishment two stars. read more

I just paid $62 and they said my order wasn't received. My boyfriend went to pick it up and they told him there was no order under my name even though I was already charged $62. I really enjoyed the Hibachi Grill food.went with a group of 5. The Chef was funny and entertaining. The food was excellent! Stir fried rice, grilled vegetables, Miso soup served eith your choice of protein. Some had Shrimp, Steak, Chicken, Salmon. Big portions. Japanese beer and Saki served and other cocktails. I will be back! Oh, service was friendly too. Price was very reasonable. read more

Food was delicious, service perfect. Fun and still able to have a conversation. Good price for what you had.

This is definitely not authentic Japanese cuisine. I am not really sure what it is. The miso soup was lukewarm, the sushi was not good at all, and the yaki soba was more like angel hair pasta with a few veggies and some soy sauce. We were most disappointed in the meal, especially considering the price. We would not return. read more
