If you're looking for fast and cheap take out this is the place. It's not the best I've had but it was decent. I would have given them 4 stars but they totally messed up my super simple order. As for the food; the chicken and broccoli was very good. The fried rice was also good. The beef and broccoli which I didn't order was mediocre - the beef was a bit thick and rubbery. I ordered the pepper steak which I'm guessing would have been the same type of meat anyway. I may order again...and if I do; I will check my order before I pay!!! read more

tl;dr: Don't believe the low rating. Great food, great prices, super convenient. Nobody like a food snob. I am frankly appalled that orient chef has a 2 star review. I hope that people will read this review and look past all the other bad reviews because they are absolutely not merited. Literally everything in life is about context and about compromise. Orient chef is by no means the best Chinese food I have ever had. But on at 7pm on a Wednesday after a long day of work or class, when your refrigerator is empty and you're at the end of your rope, I'll be damned if this isn't the best takeout you've ever eaten. A measly $20 can feed you and your special lady with plenty of left overs for tomorrow's lunch (or breakfast of you're a heathen like me). Ordering online is super easy and I can usually leave the house as soon as I place the order and it will be waiting for me when I get there, and I live about 6 minutes away. However, I usually just go and order there and then run to Publix next door and get some quick BO-GOs and it is ready by the time I get back. I don't ever do delivery because it is like $2 extra and while that is completely reasonable, I am not completely reasonable and just prefer to get it myself. Don't tell me how to live my life, you're not my mom and you're not the boss of me. Now you're probably asking, "Jake, I get that it is cheap, convenient and delicious. But in your expert opinion, what should I order?" Well, you said I was an expert, not me, but I'd be glad to tell you what I like. I ALWAYS order fried rice and lo mein (alternating between one chicken and one pork) and egg rolls. No exceptions. Then I usually get some kind of chicken, general tso is good but the curry is better. These are all great and all have that authentic "take out" taste that you can't get at the fancier Chinese restaurants. And then, if I'm really trying to score points with the old lady, I'll order a few rolls of sushi. The sushi. Of course sushi is not something to buy on a budget. But while these rolls are not huge and are very no frills, they are good quality fish for about 5 bucks a roll - great if you are just looking for some simple spicy tuna and cali rolls. One draw-back. The plaza is kind of a pain to get out of if you're going north on University or west on Griffin. But that's South Florida for you. read more

I have ordered from Orient several times even though there are several Chinese restaurants closer to me. I find it much easier to order Chinese food online as it's easier than trying to understand people when there is often a large language barrier. It also lets me peruse the entire menu and pricing before I order, use a credit card for delivery, and I just find it to be easier. Orient uses a website (orientchef.com) that's very user-friendly. That being said, I have gotten take-out within 10-15 minutes (the time it took me to drive there) and delivery in about 30-40. Depends a little on the day. They do charge $1.50 delivery fee and $10 minimum, nothing shocking. But their food is some of the best I've had in the South Florida area. Not to say I order takeout on a weekly basis (more like 4-5x/yr) but this stuff is pretty good. Not overly salty and the flavor is spot on. I recommend them. read more

I was really hoping that I was going to love this place since they're open later than most and its close to my house. The customer service is great, we came in just a few minutes before the closing time and they were still happy to make us a dinner combo. The wait wasn't long before we had our food and we're on our way home to devour. To our disapointment though the food was less than what we had expected. The soup broth was bland, the portion was slightly smaller and you get elsewhere for a dinner combo, and the rice was not that tasty. If it were just a mstter of portion that would not be a problem as I HIGHLY believe in quality over quantity . However considering all three it is not likely that I would be returning anytime soon. read more

The lunch combo is priced at $4.95 which is a good deal, so I ordered the chicken chow mein lunch combo over the phone and drove down to pick up my food. When I arrived the lady (owner I believe) behind the counter states the price and I though I heard her say "$5.95" and asked her if there was a price change recently since the menu has $4.95 printed. She replies with "I SAID $5.25 because I HAVE to include tax"-- well, ok sorry. I just misheard you, no need to get all offensive. I pay and leave with my food and once I get home I see that they got my order wrong. I call Orient Chef on the phone and the same lady picks up. I explain to her that my order is wrong and instead of correcting it, she argues with me that it's the right order. (I know what chicken chow mein is I've had it like a hundred times in the past) She still doesn't believe me and suggest that I know exactly what is in a dish before I order it. And that was the end of the call. I could not believe it! I never had any fast food place get my order wrong AND then argue with me about the content of the dish. I have ordered at Orient Chef in the past and its always mediocre but this last experience was ridiculous; it could have been an easy fix but they don't give a sh*t. So far, the only think we like is the sushi. I tried their Tai chicken pan noodle dish. It was awful! Nothing like the actual Tai dish. As much as we love the sushi, we rarely go there because their staff is not very communicative, and the ones that do communicate are very rude. There is a female that is sometimes taking orders. When she messes up the order, she claims that you told her something you never said; then says that you cause her a bunch of trouble. She doesn't want to take the order back and redo it to correct the error and she's extremely rude. So despite the sushi being really good. I tried Orient Chef tonight as the other local place I tried was not up to par. I'm glad I dug through my menu drawer and found Orient Chef. It was all I wanted it to be and more. From the moment I pulled up to pick up my food I was greeted with a warm smiled and a friendly attitude, and an apology for taking a break. The owner was very courteous and a pleasure to chat with while I signed my credit card receipt. As I'm leaving she chased me down with a box in her hand, I thought she forgot to put something in my bag. However, much to my surprise, she was giving me some additional chicken. She said she'd made too much for my meals and didn't want to throw it out. This in it of itself was a great starting point, I was sure to be a repeat customer. But the food was great as well. The food was delicious and plentiful. The combination dinner is enough for at least 3 meals. My family ordered the honey garlic chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and crab rangoon. The fried rice was tasty and needed nothing added to it, and the egg rolls too. The service was great, the food was great, I'll be a repeat customer! So happy to have found a new Chinese food restaurant, it's only taken me 3 years after moving to the area. read more

Oh yeah, this was a mistake. This was my fourth visit to Orient Chef. I have tried the Chinese menu items the first three times, but after seeing a review here that the sushi was decent, I thought I would try that. I ordered the chef's choice sashimi appetizer to start. She gave me salmon, and two kinds of tuna, which looked good. What it had in presentation, was lacking in flavor. Very fishy. And no, fish doesn't taste fishy if it's fresh. The futomaki roll was such a disappointment especially after trying Sushi Now last week. I think I have given Orient Chef a decent chance, but I have sampled enough of both their menus. Can't recommend the Chinese or the Sushi. First of all the taste of the food was very good but the service is lacking. I placed an order online and it showed me a pick up time of 12:15 PM. I arrived there at noon to pay for my order ahead of time. The young kid who was behind the counter seemed more obsessed with getting his computer set up than offering customer service. I paid for my order And was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. At 12:15 I was told that white rice was not available for another 30 minutes. I asked for plain fried rice and I ordered 4 dishes and was expecting four small containers of fried rice. instead of the young kid wanted to give me 1 quart of fried rice only. I had to insist on getting 2 quarts to make up for the four small white rice. My order was for two chicken dishes and two shrimp dishes which I picked up at 12:30 instead of 1215. When I got home we realized that it was one shrimp dish that was made with three chicken dishes. When I called orient chef, the young kid told me that he had made the mistake and that I could come back to the restaurant and bring the one incorrect chicken dish back for him and he will make the new shrimp dish for me. I told him we had already started eating the chicken dish and he insisted on me bringing it back to the restaurant. It Just left a very bad taste in my mouth as any good restaurant owner would tell you to keep the dish and that they will make another one instead. So not only did they run late with my order, but there was no white rice and the dish was made incorrectly. Even though the food tasted great the service was not excellent at all. Ok, I do not understand what is with the low rating for this place. I've been ordering take out and delivery orders from here for over 2 years now. I have never had any people I recommended it to disappointed with their order. The food isn't meant to be the best Chinese food you've ever had. It's fresh, it's fast and it's cheap. I've had a language barrier issue in ordering sometimes, but I've never had a wrong order delivered. I normally order through the website or call in for pick up when I'm not getting delivery. I love that the vegetables here are actually really fresh and crisp and never soggy or over cooked (I like my broccoli to be nice bright green, not dark, browning and sad looking). I had a friend visit from NYC once, and he wanted lunch food delivered to us at like 11:15am on a Sunday and this was the only place I can think of. He ordered the teriyaki salmon and said it was the best and freshest fish he's ever had from take out/delivery and he has wayyy more options in NY than we do in Davie. He tried some of my sesame tofu (my go-to), and said it was the first time he ever tried and liked tofu. I ordered again for the first time in a while today, it came in twenty minutes tops, and the teriyaki salmon was grilled perfectly- crispy on the outside but not at all dry on the inside. I stick to the same few things on the menu but they have decent variety, and something for everyone- no complaints here. It's NY style Chinese fast food and is even better than places I've had there. Never again. We ordered 10 pieces of sushi on brown rice, boneless ribs, pork fried rice and egg rolls. The total was $34 and it was a delivery. When the food got here all of the hot food was on top of the sushi. I opened the container and felt the top of the fish and it was hot, unable to be eaten..the fish was disgusting. The rice was ok, def not NY style because there was no egg. The ribs were ehh..little overcooked but the egg rolls were very good...fresh. That's the food half of the review. Here's the service half. I called the place back at 9:50p.m. (2 seconds after I got it.) to tell him about the sushi. He told me that I was wrong, the sushi was only a little warm because of the brown rice, that's how it should be. Mind you, I order brown rice with my sushi 100% of the time and this is never a problem. He told me he would give me a credit for next time. I said no. He told me that he would give me half of my money back. (It was $16) I told him no. He argued with me, told me to bring it back to the store, when I said ok he told me that it was going to be closed when I got there. I told him I wanted all my money back on my card $16 plus tax. He continued to offer me half of my $$. I finally got him to reverse the charge and then he argued with me about the tax. It was ridiculous. He finally asked me for my card number to reverse the charge and I gave it to him, as soon as I gave him the expiration date he hung up the phone on me. I will never order from this place again. The food was horrible and when it came time for the service to come in a make things better, it only made them worse. Don't order from here, check out Sam's Sushi Express instead. Me and my family have been getting takeout from here for years. We are a fairly picky group but they have been consistently good and their food has become practically a sunday night tradition. They have some of the best tofu around, I order it general tso style. My parents enjoy the shrimp teriyaki and the beef and broccoli. I love to eat take-out and this is my favorite take-out place. It's just a hole in the wall, but the curry is delicious and they will make it spicy if you ask! I always go for the red thai curry. The lunch and dinner specials are amazingly inexpensive and generous. I can usually make three meals out of them! Egg rolls are fantastic as is the won-ton soup. Worst customer service ever and the food is right up there as bad. I ordered a salmon skin hand roll and the woman tried to pass off a sushi roll. NOT WHAT I ORDERED. Then, the shrimp egg foo young had almost NO SHRIMP. There were couple of tiny pieces as if on shrimp got chopped and added. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REAL SHRIMP??? I asked for brown rice and shrimp rolls, also. I get my order, no hand roll, no shrimp rolls, no brown rice. When I tell the lady that, she says there is no brown rice. The man goes and makes the shrimp rolls that also had almost NO SHRIMP and ultimately, after I had to argue, he made the hand roll. It was awful. Soggy salmon skin (supposed to be crispy) and it was awful, too. I get my bag back and suddenly there is brown rice in the bag. These people should not be running a restaurant. The woman is outright nasty and does not deserve MY business and will not get it any further. One star is even too much based on my experience of bad tasting oil that should be changed out, missing items (check before you leave if you choose to give these people your money), and NASTY customer service.
