It was about time I finally gave my review to Gaucho Mercado in Downey. They open at 10 AM, and of course I was the first one in line . I went a little overboard and got a dozen and a half facturas (Argentinian pastries), some goodies, two ham & cheese pebetes, and some chipas. No regrets! This place never disappoints. Everything is made and baked right there, and you can absolutely tell. The facturas were fresh, soft, buttery, and tasted like they had barely made it out of the oven. The chipas were warm and cheesy, and the pebetes made the perfect savory addition to my pastry haul. But what really makes Gaucho Mercado special is the experience. The customer service is always great--good conversations, plenty of laughs, and that warm, welcoming Argentine vibe. For a little while, you forget you're in Downey and feel like you've been transported straight to Argentina. Rainy Sunday + fresh facturas + mate/coffee = felicidad.

The employees are fast and will get your meat quickly. I always order their carne asada ranchera, marinated chicken leg meat, marinated short ribs and the dry chorizo regular. They also have a restaurant inside, it looks good but have yet to try it.

Really good menudo!…read more It immediately reminded me of Sunday mornings at my grandmother's house. Funny how one bite of something can transport you 25 years back and bring those memories rushing in. That alone made the meal worth it. My only real complaint is that the menudo didn't have hominy, which was a little disappointing. Aside from that, it was really good and overall a great place to eat. The cashiers were okay--not the friendliest--but the butchers were absolute gold. They were super knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely down to earth. You can tell they know their stuff. Overall, definitely worth checking out, especially if you're looking for some good menudo and a solid butcher shop.

As soon as I walked in my first thought it's lunch time and the music is too loud for me. I do like that it's a variety of different kind of music. Not my favorite at all but at least it's a variety, country, hip hops, top hits. This free meal you could tell it was made to order came to our table nice and hot and fresh tasting. It included 2 st. Luis style spare ribs, a coleslaw that was not full of mayo, a nice warm little corn muffin, and all you can eat shrimp. Yes I tested it , I kept ordering shrimp and it was coming out piping hot and delicious they bring you around 8 the first time the second time maybe 6 shrimp the third time another 6. I also ordered the wings that were nothing special half sweet and zesty and the other half buffalo. Think it could have been 10 pcs may have gone by weight. Did this free meal coupon entice me to come back? I am not sure if it's something I'd come back for it's difficult since my brother in law makes some really delicious slow cooked ribs. 5 stars because of the good service and they honored the coupon it states a free bbq sauce bottle this bottle wasn't mini sized either, nice!
