We took a spontaneous trip to Buhl and booked the Oregon trail inn. The grounds are so well kept and inviting. The manager and staff were super friendly and accommodating. A few reviews we read said "great breakfast". The coffee was great but it was all "grab and go" of an assortment of healthy granola bars and fruit and Twinkie's and pop tarts. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. My stay at the Oregon Trail Inn in Buhl, Idaho (Nov 2-4, 2025) was hands-down one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a motel. I booked through Hotels.com and paid over $200 for two nights -- which is outrageous for what this place is, but I had doctor appointments in Buhl and needed somewhere to stay. After booking, I noticed check-in closed at 10 p.m., so I called and spoke with the owner, Todd, to arrange a 10:30 p.m. arrival. He agreed. About 20 minutes later, he actually called me back, demanding to know where I lived. When I told him, he said -- and I quote -- "Good, because your card is attached to a local ZIP code and I DON'T RENT TO LOCALS!" That was my first clue this guy has no business running a motel. When I checked in, I told him my friend who dropped me off might or might not stay. Nothing was said. But around 1 A.M., Todd actually called my room and told me my friend had to leave immediately because the company truck outside had local plates. He was clearly watching the parking lot and keeping tabs on guests -- creepy, intrusive, and completely unprofessional. I've stayed at plenty of motels, and this was by far the most uncomfortable, disrespectful experience I've ever had. The owner's "no locals" policy is not only absurd, it's insulting to the entire Magic Valley community. We're a small, tight-knit area that supports our citizens and our local businesses. Todd's attitude and behavior are a total disgrace to this town and everything Buhl stands for. If he doesn't want to be part of our community, maybe he should just go back to Portland, because this kind of arrogance and disrespect doesn't belong here. Do yourself a favor: stay anywhere else. This place is overpriced, the owner is rude, and his behavior crosses the line into harassment. Todd shouldn't be running a motel -- or any business, for that matter. read more

Oregon Trail Inn buhl Idaho This is a cute sweet very clean little motor inn. There was three of us staying in one room. We had brought our own cot and they were very kind to to bring us very soft clean sheets. The ladies were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. They offered to help us get the cot set up. We didn't need the help but certainly appreciated it. You can tell they take a lot of care and pride in their motel. They had hanging baskets of flowers on the outside of the building. And there are parking spots for each room. Even the way they folded and placed the towels and toiletries just shows how much they care. Just a sweet comfy place to stay and rest your head. read more

Great little Inn! I did an overnight there during a golf tournament. The outside looked clean and well kept. When I unlocked the door to my room, I was pleasantly surprised! The room was decorated nicely, had a refrigerator and microwave. The bedding was nice and the bed was comfortable. The owners were very nice. This is more like a great Bed and Breakfast laid out like a small hotel than a hotel. The service is outstanding. I have been amazed from the friendly check in to personally delivered ice. The breakfast was more than just a continental layout. There is lots to choose from and good coffee. The soda and water available in the lobby is sold basically at cost. It is easy to tell that the staff like working here (the owners too). It must rub off on the guests too as everyone we have run into has been friendly. Clean Clean Clean! This place is cleaner than it really would need to be for the price and location. The rooms are laid out well and have very nice furnishing. The bed is really nice but the mattress could use a flip.. The shower has nice hot water and more than enough pressure. You can walk to a number of convince stores, markets, and restaurants. What is not perfect? The place is on a main road through Buhl. There is not anything they can do about that, but just be aware that if you are a light sleeper you might want to bring some ear plugs or Ambien. read more

It's a motel. Don't expect too much. It's located in a small town of Buhl off of Twin Falls, Idaho. There's plenty of gas stations and some fast food around. Only paid 69 bucks + tax for a family of 4 for a night. Not too shabby. It's not a nice hotel or anything, but it's better than many motel 6's and other cheap hotels. Check in time is only up until 10pm, so make sure you call and make arrangements if you can't make it by then. Service is great. Pretty clean and nice. Wouldn't mind staying here, but don't expect it to be a nice hotel. Internet is pretty darn fast as well. read more

This is an awesome little place. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. Towels are soft and fluffy. Rooms are a extremely clean. It's an older place but very well kept. Beds were soft and comfy. They don't use cheap one ply Kleenex , they use the real thing. Air conditioning in rooms. You can't find a better place to stay then here. read more

We enjoyed our stay last night. Not only is the staff super friendly, nice and helpful, the rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. We found the property to be quiet and Stacy was helpful with a wine bottle opener. The property is pet friendly and staff provided a tasty treat this morning for our dog before departure. To top it all off, we left phone chargers in the room. When the house keeper found the cables, they were turned into the front desk. Such a cute lil Inn, in a cute lil town. The beds were comfy, rooms were clean, water pressure was perfect and the hosts were amazing. We showed up after the available check in times and they were very accommodating with a lock box on our door to get our key. In the morning we went to sign our check in paperwork and the owner was there to greet us with a smile and recommendations for breakfast (walking distance) as well as directions and guidance on the main places to check out in Buhl. Would recommend for anyone stopping through. The room was also equipped with a microwave and a mini fridge and the TV had "smart TV" options in case you want to sign in to your streaming apps. read more

Exceptional motel I've stayed among all the journeys I had so far. Met some mechanical issues before arriving, so glad and lucky I called them in advance telling hem would not be check-in on time. Forgot to check the odometer until the yellow sign went on, pretty much ran out of gas. Time to call roadside assistance... Waited for triple A guy deliver gas after 10 o'clock. When I finally arrived around 10:20pm, the manager puts my key in a box with notes on it (Friendly reminder). How nice! Room was super accommodating so I slept very well. Usually a bit noise will wake me up in the middle of the night, but during my stay there, not a problem anymore. I've made positive comments on the app Booking.com and decided to praised them once again on Yelp. read more

If your looking for a quiet, clean and accommodating hotel that offers affordable rooms try them out. The grounds are kept up, the rooms are clean and the queen bed was surprisingly comfortable. We got in too late to check out the small restaurants close by but ended up walking to the grocery store 2 blocks down. Stop in next door to the "java bean" for an espresso or smoothie in the morning. The owner was very friendly. Cons: internet did not work great. Spotty and slow. We are very impressed with this motel room. Everything is clean and updated. The kids love the big smart tv. I love the thick towels. Large mini fridge with separate freezer and microwave. It was my great displeasure to stay in the Oregon Trail Inn. I do not say that because there's a light right outside of your window that keeps your room from getting really dark at night, below average beds and pillows or dated decor. However, I did find it slightly irritating that there were no three prong outlets anywhere but the bathroom. That was a bit of a surprise since they became standard in 1965, but everybody loves plugging their computer up in the bathroom, right? The thin walls were a bit more of a problem. It is not an exaggeration when I tell you that I heard every ring tone from the room next door. Once -- and again, I kid you not -- I heard the phone next door VIBRATING on the table. If the walls were made of egg cartons and newspaper, they'd have quieted more of the noises from next door. However, the biggest problem I had there was the Internet. It was functional during the day, but simply stopped working at night. The first night, I hoped it was a temporary technical problem and since no one is up front after 10 PM, I couldn't ask for help anyway. The 2nd night, I asked the admittedly very friendly and helpful clerk up front for help, she reset the router and everything was good....for about 5 minutes and then the Internet became as efficient as traffic on the LA freeway at rush hour again. Pretty clearly, the hotel had more guests than their Internet could handle and as they trickled in at night, the Internet imploded. The next day, I had to move to another hotel. I do work on the Internet and I NEED working Internet at night. In retrospect, I should have had a Hotspot with me, but I haven't had bad Internet at a hotel in so long I grew careless. That's on me. What's on them was that when I told the dour, angry woman working the front desk on day 3 that I was having to move to a different hotel because of the Internet, she scoffed. The Internet was great! It was working right now, in the afternoon, when it had been working all three days! Nobody else complained! Obviously, it was my problem. I asked her if they had a cab company they used, to take me to the new hotel. She dismissively said cabs didn't come there, which is kind of bizarre since I went back to my room and the first one I found, agreed to come out. Had they been nice enough to refund the money I paid to their crummy hotel or heck, had the lady working the desk even been really NICE AND APOLOGETIC ABOUT THE HORRIBLE SERVICE, I probably wouldn't have written this review. But since they didn't and since she wasn't, I am just going to tell you the truth. The Oregon Trail Inn is a hot, piping garbage bath of a hotel. In fact, it is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Oh, and I've stayed at a hotel with an actual hole in the wall. Even that hotel had decent Internet which is more than I can say about the Oregon Trail Inn. So I'm not saying you should stay in a local cave, sleep under the stars or in a tent instead of staying at the Oregon Trail Inn, but I am saying that the quality of Internet would be exactly the same at night and it would also be free. Stayed here for one night in a clean room that looked like it was newly renovated. Everything was fresh and clean. It was quiet. A comfortable bed with pillows that weren't flat pancakes. Been on the road for 14 days and this was one of the most comfortable beds of all the places I've stayed. The wi-fi worked great. I had to work on this trip and a two-video conference call worked out fine, a few slowdowns but all in all it went smoothly. I couldn't ask for better, especially at 8 a.m. when most people might be using the wi-fi. I would stay here again. read more

A wonderful place to lay your head. The beds are very comfy and the room very clean. The first thing you notice when you walk into your room is the fresh clean smell. Rick the owner is a very nice man. He recently purchased the place and is making great changes. In the morning there is pastries and hot coffee available. If you are wanting the Hilton, don't come here, but if you are wanting a more personable experience...home away from home, please come here, you wont be dissapointed! Update** 10/2015 - my parents came to visit from out of state. My dad needs a handicap accessible room and the Oregon Trail did not disappoint. My parents are very picky about their motel rooms and they didnt have one complaint! They are also pet friendly and have muffins, juice, coffee and tea available for breakfast. read more

We stayed one night and actually got the last room available with out a reservation. The staff was friendly and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and comfortable the rooms were. The price was right too. There is a small continental breakfast included as well. On a side note, I have been struggling with back problems and have been waking up every morning with an aching back but the mattress in my room was very comfortable and I didn't wake a sore. :) read more

This is one of two hotels in Buhl so suffice to say the choices are slim. But here the beds are comfy, the manager Dorothy is really nice and the rooms and linens are clean. The rooms with two beds in them have an awkward layout, and the bathroom is really tiny. The room with one queen is much more updated, so I'd recommend staying in that one if you're traveling by yourself or with a spouse or partner. It's also shockingly inexpensive; a 4-night stay was just $255! read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at The Oregon Trail Inn on our way to Phoenix a couple of weeks ago and we were absolutely blown away by the hospitality we encountered there! We were running late and we weren't going to make the check in time but we called Rick and he turned the lights on in our room and left the key for us on the bedside table. We had been driving for 11 hours and were so happy he was able to do something like that for us. You don't find that kind of hospitality anywhere near where I'm from. We stumbled into the room quite late and we loved what we encountered. The room was hotel quality, with a beautiful queen sized bed and really top quality bedding. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we slept like babies. We were able to settle up in the morning over tea, coffee, and awesome coffee cake. The whole cracked-wheat bread and cinnamon strawberry preserves were also extremely tasty. :) Everything was great and we may plan more trips just to go back through Buhl. P.S. the coffee cake was really moist and wasn't overly sweet. Really perfect way to start our morning before hitting the road for another 15 hours. Wish we could've swung by Grandma's Pies to get more of that coffee cake. Thank you Rick! I can't wait to stay again!! Very nice motel in a quiet area near Shoshone Falls, Thousand Springs and close to Twin Falls but way off the busy interstate and quiet. Very large rooms, fluffy towels, and inexpensive. We recently stayed at the Oregon Trail Inn in Buhl, Idaho, and were pleasantly surprised at how good a stay we had. We stayed two nights total but each night was about a week apart, the Inn used as a stopping point when passing through the region. Both rooms had a queen bed and were very clean and updated, internet WiFi and premium television channels included with your stay. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was nice as well. It seems tiny at first, but on further evaluation the quality more then makes up for it. Every morning they provide a nice selection of fresh locally made breads, muffins, fruit, coffee, butter and jams. Everything is made local and very fresh and of course incredibly delicious. I'd take this any day over those self serve waffle machines and boxed cereal other places have. The manager, Rick, was very kind, accommodating, and ensured that everything was perfect for us. We wanted to make a last minute change to our trip schedule and on asking Rick if it was possible to push our second night a day back he was happy to oblige, no fees, paperwork or anything, just a smile. Both nights we also arrived a bit late but he handled that great as well, having our room all set for us so we could just go right in and go to bed, not having to do any check in paper work or anything. I would definitely stay here again and recommend the Oregon Trail inn to anyone passing through the area in need of a room. What a great alternative to staying in Twin Falls! Just about 15 minutes away from the city, along a really lovely farm-lined rural road, lies Oregon Trail Inn. It is such a great bargain! I think we paid $57 for a double queen room, and everything was great. The breakfast was delicious (with locally made breads, pastries, butter, jam, etc.) and Rick was sure to encourage us to eat as much as we'd like. No crazy side-eye from surly desk-workers here! Rick was super friendly, and may be a Jedi- he told our 7 year old "May the Force be with you!" even though we never mentioned our love of Star Wars. At first I was a bit hesitant to write this review because it will become harder for me to get a room here on our next trips :) What a great place! My wife and I are originally from Buhl, but we currently live in Boise. Each time we visit Buhl, we always end up staying in Twin Falls at one of the larger hotel chains...not any more though.
