Crop duster in the evening
James P.

Let me start off by saying that we go to the twin falls area several times a year. We have always stayed at the KOA about 8 miles away. Should be a 5 star review but we had a minor issue. This time we decided to stay at Anderson Camp. The sites were big and have a nice grass area at your front door. There is 50amp service. There was enough room in our spot for our 36 foot Rv and room for the Chevy suburban we rented. The campground overall was clean and quiet. There was some freeway noise but nothing major. The store was well stocked and had the ranch dressing we forgot to bring. Also had beer/wine/icees for the kids. We took advantage of the free pool and then paid for the mini golf and waterslide. One minor issue was the lack of supervision at the waterslide. There really should have been someone who works at the park who monitored the slide. Older kids were not waiting for the younger kids to get off the slide which resulted in my 3 year old getting kicked hard in the back from a 12 year old. Brought it to the attention of the workers who were less than concerned. I asked the kids to settle down but they refused and there were no parents around. By the lack of wrist bands on the kids who were causing the problems I assume they are locals and friends of the owners. My 10 year old was hit in the head by the same boys so I had to demand a refund. One of the workers was mouthy until she saw I was standing there listening about how she wasn't going to give me a refund. I assume it was the owner inside the store who ended up refunding the slide. As for the review about the crop duster, they were right on. But this time it was about 5 in the evening and we were outside eating dinner. It lasted about 15 minutes and the kids thought it was awesome. See picture. Over all it was a good stay and we will probably choose this place again over the KOA. Spots are definitely bigger with more grass and shade trees.

Interesting place. They have water slides, a gas station/convenience store, bathrooms, etc. with the campground. High prices.

Nice park. I would give it 5 stars but the wifi is the absolute WORST. Aside from that I like it.

So sorry to leave all the wonderful residents we met in our short stay at this park…read more No longer owned by Idahoans, it has changed into a cash cow for the Sharks that bu,y up parks and raise the lot lease to a point where people on Social Security and pensions have a choice to make, rent or eat. Raising the lease should be like every couple of years, it has been raised twice in the past year. Lawn mowing was included last year, dropped. Water and sewer was included , now you're on your own Bud. That's because they can make money on that. You irrigate in summer, but the rates have progressively gone up this last winter. Not only that, the water and sewer is split amongst all residents Including that part that belongs to the park owner. In my investigation, they also do not have meters on their water as required by State law for all Utilities. They also bundle every charge, fee or tax from the City into the total amount and call it water and sewer, then stick it to residents. What is really sad is if they are forced to obey the law, they will simply raise the lot lease again. There needs to be control Snow removal is their job so they hire the cheapest contractor who cuts a 6' path down the middle of the road and calls it good. To heck with the safety of 80 and 90 year olds. The road is getting kind of ratty. Willing to bet they won't touch that until they are forced to. We are out of there and we thank the Lord for that!

There were so many colors, textures, shapes, caves, cones, spatters, and life in this National Monument. Loved the hiking and views. We did the north crater trail starting away from the visitor and going about half way. There are some big hills walking in sand so it's not an easy trek and half way was enough. The views looking into the crater are awesome. The broken top loop trail gave you a more up close look at the vibrant vegetation. The first part is uphill but after it down and flat. We did the Indian Cave which had plenty of light. It does involve traversing rocks so be prepared. You'll need solid shoes. You need to get a stamp to go into the caves. Stop at the visitor center to answer 2 simple questions. My fav trail was the Inferno Cone viewpoint. The first part is steep but the views from the top are amazing. So worth it.

Castle Rocks State Park - Campsites at Smoky Mountain Campground have lots of vegetation to provide separation between campsites.

Both campgrounds are great, but Smoky Mountain has water and electric hookups and free showers, along with a dump station. City of Rocks doesn't have either of them, but you're camping among the rocks that make up the city. The camp hosts at Smoky Mountain were friendly and the grounds were well-maintained. Just watch for the cattle that sometimes wander through. Drive to the park from the Declo exit on Interstate 84. Even coming from Boise, that's a better route than through Burley and Oakley. You end up on a dirt road coming from that side and it takes a lot longer to get there.

I saw hikers and bikers around the campsite. I stayed in campsite #1. I stayed in Smokey Mountain camp loop located a couple of miles from the visitor center. First left as soon as you turn into the campground road from the visitor center. The camp signs were difficult to read at night so we missed our turn and ventured far to Twin Sisters in City of Rocks National Reserve. The campsites are closely located to one another. We were able to hear our neighbors conversations clearly, so not as much privacy. Our campsite had little shade. The views are really nice in the morning. You are able to see the mountains when you walk around the campsite loops. The restrooms are clean. Showers are available but we didn't use them so won't comment on that. Dog friendly campsite and doggie poo bags are available. Recycling is available for plastic and aluminum only. Further down the road is City of Rocks National Reserve which is an absolute must see if you ever stay here! It is a very scenic drive of the rocks and mountains. You are able to hike near/around the rocks. I even saw visitors climbing the rocks, but not sure if that was allowed or not. There is also a creek overlook trail that you can venture off too - up to a certain point, vehicles are no longer allowed. Would have loved to spend more time at this park! Has everything you need - water, electricity, showers, restrooms, hiking trails, dog friendly and scenic views. Self registration is available for those that book last minute. Self registration booth is located about a mile or so before reaching the campsite loop. It will be hard to spot. I booked online and had to pay the online fees - but it's a guarantee for a reserved spot. If you are visiting City of Rocks National Reserve, prepare to drive on dirt, gravel and bumpy roads.
