Cool place to go and instructor was very thorough and safe conscious. Would definitely go again now that we know the tips and tricks.

Came here last month to attend a "team outing" for work, and I gotta say the experience of axe…read morethrowing here was way better than other places I have thrown at. But I'll go into more about that later. Here's why I would choose Blue Ox for entertainment versus the others: First of all, the bar/restaurant is located in the heart of old school downtown Hillsboro. It's mostly street parking, but there is a parking lot and garage nearby. I'll just say, I've always been lucky finding parking next to the place. Upon entering, you'll notice they've got a dining area well large enough to accompany and entertain big groups. Past that is an open area for cornhole and couches for lounging, and a lovely bar after that. It's surprisingly huge! I mean, I haven't even mentioned the throwing lanes yet lol. But yeah, just past the bar area, they've got about 8 or 10 throwing lanes. Here's why Blue Ox stands out to me... ~ We met up with manager (possibly owner), Lonnie, who first took our food order and he explained a bit about Fat Baby Barbecue that provides the food for the space they share. The Q was really tasty and worth a try if you're hungry for some smoky-meaty goodness. ~ After eating, over at the lanes area, Lonnie discussed the rules and showed my team the basics on how to throw. But here's the cool part... Each lane had a remote control to choose what games you want to play. It's not just a big red and white target you throw at, but the targets are projected onto the board and it keeps score for you. I'm sure it's not a new concept, but this I've never done a other axe throwing places. ~ But here's the best kicker of all! They let us try their fancy throwing knives and ninja stars. Again, another feature I've never done at others. We all had a blast using these. So overall, in short, if you need an entertaining date night. Or need a spacious venue that provides decent barbecue and bar food for your family or workmates, then this is your place. Come check it out!

Celtic Axe Throwers is a good fit for this location. Our host was friendly and showed us the basics…read moreas well as some trick shots. If you haven't been Axe throwing before, well, it sounds exactly like what it is. You are given an axe and you throw it at a target made out of wood. They also have one set of sharp shovels that you can throw. I think this is a good place for team building. Get food at the carts then throw an axe. I will knock down a star tho, because of the openness of the place, randos will walk up and interrupt you. If they added some stanchions or something to like block public access, that would be nice.

We found Celtic Axe Throwers when looking for something new and unique to do. Here's how it went:…read more This location is inside of the large and overly busy "BG's Food Cartel" (giant food cart pod), and parking is huge challenge. There's one main public lot for the entire area, and there are not enough parking spaces. Street parking is distant and limited. The axe-throwing experience itself was OK. it was mostly fun, but nothing I found to be compelling enough to do again, especially considering the price (it's about a dollar a minute, before any tips). While our instructor was great (I'd have not been able to hit even the rough vicinity of the target without his expert instruction, and he took photos for us), the condition of the axes and the targets were very inconsistent. My companion's axe steadily degraded with parts falling off of it as the night went on, and it was only after her axe head was very loose and at risk of falling off of the handle that the instructor finally fetched a different one for her to use. This seems like it would be a good team-building exercise for a work group, or for competitive axe throwers to hone their skills, but as a casual item, to me, it was worth doing once, but probably not again.

*Edit: the website they have linked here is not the website I used. I guess they have it linked…read morethrough Celtic Ax throwing? I don't even know. On that site there's no address, email, phone number, or link to the website on this yelp page* This place stinks. Literally and figuratively. When walking in I got hit with the smell of animal poop like I was at a farm. Finding this place was kind of annoying because it's inside this republican ass bar buts it's listed as Celtic ax throwing instead of what ever the bar is. The website has no phone number or address. The bar, Strombreaker Brewing St. John's, has no signs for the rage room on the building Even tho it's inside the bar. You have to Google Maps search for Rage Room Portland by its self to find it. The guy who helped us through the process when we got there sucked. His breath was soooo bad I had to make sure I was 10 steps away from him at all times. He seemed slow in a backwoods inbred type of way. Every time I asked a question he started to get angry for some reason. They don't have a place for you to securely put your purse so you have to just leave it out in the open bar. They don't have a table or anything to smash stuff on. Just two tires for you to put the bottles on. Some of the bottles fell off because it's not well balanced. When I asked if we could have a few to replace the ones that broke he started getting all angry and frustrated saying no. So I let it go. The wording is vague when buying the room. When you get the medium stuff to break it says "small electronics, a vase, and something else. When we got there the had set out a single VCR tape player. I was confused because the way it's worded made it sound like you get it all but that's not true. You only get 1 of those items and you don't get to pick it out. When I asked the guy about it he, again probably because it's too much for his little brain to comprehend, started getting frustrated with me for asking a simple question. Again I let it go but I shouldn't have. I bought an extra box of ceramics to break, but it turns out they don't actually have any ceramics even though they have it up for sale. It was just an extra box of empty liquor bottles, which they ended up telling me they get for free and then charge you 15 bucks for it. Apparently when you order online it doesn't charge for the whole party. Only what you got to break and 1 person. Before breaking things you think they would charge you for the rest of the party, but they don't. When we were done and about to leave, the guy asked me why I was leaving without paying. Again I was confused and asked him what he meant. And, again, he started getting all pissed off like I should know that after you break things and you are leaving you then have to pay for the rest of the party. How that makes any sense, I don't know. They charge you at an iPad station set up right in front of the ax throwing that has no back gate on the first stall. Meaning if you're checking out and someone goes to throw an ax and it slips out of their hand, it's gonna hit you right in the skull. So that's pretty cool. To sum up my review: this bar, strombreaker brewing St. John's, is a bar that saw all the money a rage room can bring in. So they made an ASS rage room, put mouth breathers in charge, and charge you for items they purposely mislead you on. I'd spend your money literally anywhere else.
