Lil Capo Pizzeria 5.0/5 The Closest Thing to New York…read morePizza I've Found in Arizona Growing up in Upstate New York, I admittedly have high standards when it comes to pizza. After moving to Arizona in 2007, I've spent years searching for a slice that genuinely reminds me of home. While there are plenty of decent pizza spots throughout the Valley, very few capture that authentic New York style. Lil Capo Pizzeria absolutely does! Ironically, I first discovered Lil Capo after an Arizona Cardinals game. Like many people, I wasn't interested in paying stadium prices for mediocre food, so I jumped on Yelp looking for something nearby. Lil Capo had outstanding reviews, so we decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did because it's now my benchmark for New York-style pizza in Arizona. The first thing that stood out was the crust. This is exactly what a New York slice should be--thin, crispy on the bottom, slightly chewy inside, sturdy enough to fold, and never overloaded with grease. So many places think "New York style" simply means making a large slice. Lil Capo understands it's really about the balance of crust, sauce, cheese, and texture. Every bite reminded me why I miss pizza back east. The sauce has just the right amount of sweetness and acidity, the cheese is perfectly proportioned, and everything tastes fresh without trying to reinvent what already works. Sometimes simplicity executed well is the hardest thing to accomplish. Pizza: 5/5 Service was equally impressive. The staff was welcoming, friendly, and efficient. After selecting our slices, they quickly reheated them to perfection and had them on our table within minutes. It's exactly what you want from a neighborhood pizzeria--fast, relaxed, and genuinely hospitable. Service: 5/5 I also appreciated the atmosphere. Lil Capo isn't trying to be flashy or trendy. Instead, it has that classic neighborhood pizzeria feel where the focus stays exactly where it should--on making outstanding pizza. It's casual, comfortable, family-friendly, and somewhere you could easily become a regular. The pricing is another pleasant surprise. Considering the quality of the pizza and the generous slice sizes, I found everything to be very fairly priced. Overall Finding authentic New York-style pizza in Arizona has been surprisingly difficult over the years, but Lil Capo delivers exactly what I've been searching for. Authentic New York-style crust Excellent sauce-to-cheese ratio Minimal grease Friendly, efficient service Fair prices Comfortable neighborhood atmosphere I've eaten pizza throughout New York my entire life, and Lil Capo remains the closest I've found to the real thing anywhere in Arizona. Whenever I'm on the west side of the Valley--or heading to or from a Cardinals game--I find myself looking for an excuse to stop in. Next time, I'm skipping the slices and ordering an entire pie. If you're a fellow New Yorker living in Arizona and craving a slice that tastes like home, Lil Capo should be at the top of your list.

I would give this location negative stars if I could due to its poor service and even worse management!!!!! Best part is, when you email the Oreganos customer service you receive no response. Called in a pizza at 4:30PM and was told it would not be ready until 7:30PM.. This is ridiculous but it worked on that day since I'm not 100 years old and do not eat at 4:30PM. That being said I arrive to pick up my pizza and they never took my order!!!! WTF! Then I have some 17 year old staff member ask me if I called the right location?! Really? My response was, "well is this 67th ave and Bell Rd?, Then I guess I called the right Fu#king place". The manager came over and stated that they had good news and bad news, I told him I already knew the bad news and that I didn't want to hear anymore. He stated that they were making my STUFFED CRUST PIZZA right now, and that it would only take 15 minutes to get it ready! So I thought to myself either they stole someone else's pizza or my pizza will not be cooked all the way. Sure enough received my pizza and it was way under cooked, to the point where the dough was still raw!!!!!!!!!! That's right I said it, RAW! I emailed Oreganos corporate and received now response which is pretty professional in my opinion. I think it was the fact that I told them their organization at this location is crap and that after months of being open the Management staff should have these issues resolved. Well guess what, these issues remain. They are slow, rude, very un-organized, and the management team look to be as if they have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Its sad really, I am sure Mark Russell did not build his empire on idiots however after dealing with this location on several occasions I question that. So the moral of the story is, if you want to open a company and be extremely successful do the first couple of locations flawlessly, then lower your standards to have sub-par employees at the rest of the locations. As an owner this will put more money in your pocket even at the expense of your customers. The sad thing is most people will deal with these issues because the food is so good (most of the time). Have been a fan of Oregano's for years, but have always had to travel a bit to enjoy as I live on the West side. Was over the moon when they opened on W Bell Rd. Took my sister for her first visit on a Friday evening at 4:30 hoping to beat the crowd...wrong..hour and a half wait...what could have been a painful event was turned into a pleasant time waiting...the manager, Al, had his staff come through the waiting crowd regularly with thin crust pizza tastes for us to enjoy, we could order drinks, and the staff was as always fun, friendly and efficient. Once seated, our waiter, Michael was superb...the food was sublime, The Lady is a Scampi.....nothing finer on Earth! Al came by to personally great us and make sure all was well. I am thrilled to have an Oregano's now so close, but even more thrilled that is is well staffed and perfectly managed. read more

My wife and I met another couple here at 1:00PM on Saturday. The restaurant was busy but we were seated right away. Rocco, our server came over quickly and took our order. All of the staff were very nice and friendly which goes a long way towards providing a great dining experience. We got our food pretty fast and it was plenty hot. I had the lasagna and my wife had the bollo-pasta with meat sauce. Our friends split a sandwich between themselves. All of the food was cooked to perfection and was delicious. The lasagna and bollo-pasta were each big enough they could have been split between two people. This was our first visit to this location but it won't be our last! read more

We had such a wonderful time here. The service was truly exceptional--our servers kept our drinks filled, checked in often without ever feeling intrusive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious, fresh, and came out quickly. One of the highlights for our family was the hidden elf in the restaurant. Went to this restaurant for my birthday lunch on June 19th and was instantly greeted with a rude hostess. I told her six in my party she immediately put us on a high top table without asking, I have a pregnant coworker that cannot sit at a high top table and when I asked for a lower table she huffed and said, "I guess I can do that but can't you just sit at the high top?" If you want the best pizza in Phoenix, go to Oregano's (thin crust). If you want the best salad in town, Oregano's (Pablo Picasso). If you want the best atmosphere and music, it's Oregano's. If you want to drink wine with your pinky sticking out, go to Pizzeria Bianco. I considered writing a one start review in an effort to shorten the line the next time I go, but it seemed sacrilegious. While I was trying to be graceful to our server who was obviously very inexperienced, unfortunately service mistakes kept happening to not notice and started to get a little annoying. We had a birthday party of 7 guests. It was dead when we walked in. She was the only server. We were told to use the next table as a gift table and later she loudly told us what "we have to do" to get all the gifts off that table as it wasn't hers anymore... after a second server came on board and it got busier. She didn't help or make that transition smooth as a more seasoned server could have. Ex: "Hey, I'm going to just move these over here, my co-worker needs the table." Apps were out before we had to ask for more than 3 app plates we had. Food was out before we had to ask for large dinner plates. Empty dishware was not being removed as emptied. Our table was getting full and piled high with dishware. It was a struggle to lay 3 pizzas out, 4 orders of wings and salads with all the app dishes not removed. I ordered a bottle of moscato. She delivered it, cap on and dropped it on the table like a beer served at a dive bar busy night. For this alcohol I asked for a separate bill from the host of the birthday party. It became gift opening time and our table was full still... she had dropped checks off for the host and myself. I'm sorry, that is my biggest pet peeve. Do not drop a check when I have 3 dirty plates in front of me. I asked her to clear them, all the while being perturbed that we obviously had gifts to open and what if we wanted dessert??? We didn't bring a birthday cake! She said she'd get to it. We all just passed all the plates and stuff onto the table next to us so we could continue our event there and have space to open gifts. Lo and behold she's interrupting to get the checks paid from the host of our party. Had no idea how to apply visa gift cards, but at least she finally asked how to do it. Literally clueless to the social clues of letting diners enjoy their event until the end. As for my alcohol check on the little clipboard, I guess I wasn't fast enough to pay, a second one was dropped in front of me while watching the birthday boy open his gifts! I couldn't believe it. I did want dessert. At this point I was just so over it and didn't order. Sad. Even the birthday boy mentioned after that was the worst service he had ever experienced. And he felt so robbed of his moment to enjoy his family. I hate to write this kind of review but it needs to be said. Miss B, please learn some tips about serving. Management, please pay attention and train staff with the basics. Her attitude was sweet, but she is in need of more training. Meanwhile... I don't barely recall the food with all the distractions. The honey BBQ wings were great. My bad for not reading margarita pizza was red sauce instead of garlic and oil base. I was there as the restaurant of choice for the birthday boy. Would I go again? I don't think so. Management should have been helping her or at least a bus person. This is no mom and pop place, it's corporate. We expected more. Thankfully multiple other staff members brought out the food while it was hot.

When I first got them, they almost felt boiled from frozen the way the skin stayed soft and somewhat rubbery. Also, their hot is closer to mild on my scale. It may be someone else's preference, but it wasn't for me. The pizza was decent. There was a good amount of toppings on my supreme. I also do like thin crust, so points for that. :) Their pizza's are also huge. The smallest pizza is a 16". They do sell slices, though, if you think you can't tackle that monster. I wouldn't come back here on my own, but if a friend really wanted to eat here, I would. I would know just to stay away from the wings.

I go to the nearby Lifetime Fitness & just don't care for an avocado toast after the workout. ‍ Happy to skip McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, Subway ... and go to a genuine locally owned small business where the money I spend gets circulated back into the community and they really do appreciate my business. Loved their spicy honey mustard and I typically handle heat pretty well but even this one was kickin my butt. So proceed with caution! Their Sardella's Supreme was our choice of pie and it did not disappoint. Would recommend 10/10. We also got a box of their house-made chocolate chip cookies which were delicious BUT in my opinion were a little too soft. They were almost gooey or undercooked - took most of the cookies home and toasted them up in the toaster oven to give it a crisp on the outside but still fall-apart soft in the middle. IMO they were much better after being toasted. But overall would recommend Sardella's and will be coming back next time for our pizza and wings and cookies fix!
