I've gone here a couple of times to enjoy their outdoor area. The last time it was pretty chilly, but they keep a fire going and near the fire it was comfy and cozy enough to hang out. We brought a few blankets, but they also just have some hanging up for people to use, which I think is cool. They also allow dogs outside and thoughtfully bring them bowls of water so that's great, AND they let you bring food in - there's a pretty good pizza place right next door. My favorite cider that they have is the Winter Shanty with fall/winterish spices, but they're all good!

Loved this rustic, cozy, and modern vibe of this cider bar. The upside down canoe by bar area def sets the scenery. There are always locals that stop by with their growlers to pick up some craft ciders. The growlers are specifically made to retain the cider's temp to keep things fresh. If you're hungry, they have $3 bottomless popcorn or you can order pizza/salads next door. Personal fav from the sample flight was the Winter Shandy- tasted like applesauce with a kick! Friendly staff and very clean interior. They have a gift shop area in the back of the shop.

If you know me you know that my drink of choice is usually a hard cider. If you know me, you know that I love to support local mom and pop shops. And finally, if you know me you know that I love meeting new people, people who are passionate about what they are doing. This place was so amazing from the moment we walked in until the time that we left. In the midst of Covid-19 and feeling deprived of really good conversation and a good drink and this place reminded me that 'this too shall pass' and that we are all going to be ok. Brandon and Jay were amazing and talked us through all of the different flavors. We both settled on a flight because they all sounded so delicious we couldn't pick just one. The flight was a great way to go. My favorites were Chappy and The Big O. My husband liked the Angry Spanker. Upon hearing this Brandon made him a mini Angry Mary (their spin on a bloody Mary) and said it would ruin bloody Mary's for us because theirs was so good. I'll be darned if he wasn't right. Needless to say we took some home. I also took home some of the Chappy (made with Traverse City cherries). I can't wait to go back. Friends, go for the great drinks, stay for the wonderful atmosphere and conversations and leave with some beverages to go and help out a pretty fantastic little establishment!

Our party Had the best interaction with the staff. Ciders were very good, then they start to learn your taste buds. Very fun experience.

However, during our most recent visit, we noticed quite a few changes from previous years, and unfortunately, not all for the better. They no longer have the scenic hayride that used to include a free donut and a cup of apple cider with your ticket purchase. Now, it's $5 per person, and instead of a peaceful scenic ride, it stops at every station and they no longer give you a donut & cider with ticket purchase. When we asked about the change, we were told it was because they weren't making money off the old setup. I understand businesses need to adjust, but it really took away from the experience. That scenic ride with the cider and donut was always one of the highlights for us ; something we truly looked forward to every year. They did add more bouncy houses for the kids, which is nice, but the ones they had before were just as fun. The food was about the same, decent, but nothing special. It was noticeably more expensive this year. $5 for a single ear of corn felt excessive. On the positive side, the cinnamon donuts are still amazing, and the apple cider is as delicious as ever. I also enjoyed the wine tasting, which is always fun, though seating is still limited and could be improved. Overall, the visit just didn't have the same charm or warmth as before. We still had an okay time, but it didn't feel as memorable as past years. Sadly, I think this might be our last year visiting, we'll probably look for a new orchard next fall.

The apple smashing began eleven years later. The huge building you enter today was constructed in 1894 when the business focused primarily on cider production. So many changes over the years...yet many things remain intact. Was Harry Yates responsible for starting the tradition of donuts and cider back in the 1930's? Today These days you'll be able to buy Frankenmuth Fudge, Zak & Mac's chocolates and Posey's hot dogs and snacks, all at Yates. They've also added a small petting farm. The list of Yates products has expanded well beyond just donuts. Today, we bought a 1/2 peck of our favourite apples, the honeycrisp, as well as Aged Bourbon syrup, applesauce, pickles, hard candy for the grandkids and even a cool sweatshirt. Cider prep Somewhere along the line they changed their processing to UV light treating which pretty much obliterates the mother at the bottom of the jug and has a definite effect on the overall taste. So to confirm our suspicions we bought a half gallon (with donuts, of course). We were right. Nature trails? There are three immediate trails ranging from 1 to 1-1/2 mile loops We spent an hour on their Railroad Trail a.k.a. The Yates Trail. A mile long walking loop. With plenty of colour. Nothing like a walk with nature. Parking has always been a challenge. There is an overflow across the road. Mostly it's just a matter of patience. Pro Tip: Try to come on a weekday morning. Weekends in the fall are filled with families. The staff was hurried but cordial, as usual. We've always found long lines here. So that's to be expected. The bees were down significantly this year so it was a highly successful day! 10/25
