    Inaccurate location specific website
    Chris K.

Not a good experience here this weekend. The Lyon location website said they were closed for u-pick but the Blake's U-pick website said they were open. I called this location and asked specifically about u-pick. They told me it was open and we drove 45 minutes out from Bloomfield Hills to pick apples. We actually had visitors in town from NH for three days this weekend and wasted half a day on this endeavor. We got there and there were ample signs everywhere pointing us to the u-pick check-in. Yet no one staffing anything. Finally came back to the main building and a woman there, at a window next to a giant u-pick check-in sign, said they closed for u-pick last weekend and didn't know who told me it was open. To her credit she was extremely sweet and offered us a half dozen cider donuts. Very tasty. Yet, just the first disappointment. So then we go into the shops and are told that the hard cider trailer outside is opening at 4 pm. I check the website for this location and confirm, 4-8:30. We go out and check out the trailer and see several new options that we haven't gotten to try yet. Wait around 30 minutes for 4 and it does not open. Find another staff member and they tell us that the cider taps are also closed for the season. Despite numerous signs still up, pointing to the tap trailer, saying taps open. So we drove 45 minutes each way to experience nothing open and staff members that had zero idea what was even going on at their place of work. For a huge Blake's fan, one dying to try their new blue razz and cider donut ciders, this was a colossal miss for us. I have zero idea why they can't even correct some chalk signs and keep their website up to date. Really no excuse for a business that has gotten this large. The staff were very nice, but only one woman working seemed to have any idea what was open or not.

All the donuts (I've not had plain) and ciders are delicious, although it was slightly confusing ordering because I got a variety which included the more costly specialty flavors but the nice lady behind counter was very helpful figuring it out. I love the apple cider slush.

I miss Erwin's. These donuts were barely warm. Lots of mosquitoes in the apple orchard which I don't remember ever being an issue in the past 20+ years I've been picking there. No bees though, so that was a positive. Only 2 cashiers open to get cider & donuts on a Saturday morning so there was a long wait despite getting there early. Apples were very good looking and plentiful. Longer tractor ride than it used to be. Prices have gone up substantially too for U-pick. I mean, we're doing all the work!

The cider mill is open! You can purchase various goods inside like jams, pies, wine, etc. The cider is in the fridge. I didn't see it being made on-site. The doughnuts were warm. I asked if it's the Erwin or Blake's recipe and was told Blake's. They have a slight crunch to them and slightly dense, not as airy and light as Erwin's. There are several porta John's and sink stations. Some random and not too many play areas for kids. Several tents and picnic tables. Parking lot is gravel. There's apple picking but I didn't do this so not sure if there is a hay ride.

Went with some friends on a Saturday morning. It's pretty early in the season, so there were very few lines to wait in. The donuts and cider are always a hit, one of the main reasons I go. I've been coming here for years, and I'm glad blake purchased the orchard before the family that owned Edwin's retired. The orchard is beautiful and really captured the fall atmosphere, and it's always so fun to pick our own apples forboughtthe pie that was purchased was delicious as well. Very happy with my expiriance.

One star less because I miss Erwin's and while I love Blake's, I don't know if it's because this is their first season and they haven't fully fleshed out their entire supply chain/infrastructure yet or not, but these donuts are not made fresh on-site the way Erwin's was - that's for sure! Blake's at this point offers so many products, that it seems like they all come bottled up from their manufacturing sites and are just distributed in batches to its different locations or something. They also turned the cider mill grounds into just one giant hay playground for kids, rather than it being broken up into different attractions for all ages to see, but I'm mainly here for the cider and donut snacks and the apple picking, so I'm not too broken up about the other miscellaneous attractions. Blake's....give the people what they want already - HOT, FRESH, QUALITY DONUTS! Given that Erwin's did make their stuff fresh on-site, I know the capabilities are there! Other than that though, everything else about the apple orchard is wonderful! Tractors come through often to pick people up so you're never waiting too long (for context: we went on a beautiful weather weekend day, although perhaps on the earlier side of apple-picking season). The apples were plentiful, they have quality STRONG bags, better than what Erwin's used to offer, so you weren't concerned about them breaking as you loaded up your bags. Everything was positively lovely about the apple picking experience. I will say the pumpkin picking experience is lame because it's all these already cut up pumpkins just scattered out in a field for you LMAO.

Blake's did a really good job taking over for Erwin's. I enjoyed the donuts. The cinnamon spice and ones with nuts were great. They had street corn which was really good and plans to open a hot dog stand. They have u pick apples was really nice. We had a medical emergency situation with one of our grandparents and they helped to address it on the wagon of the u pick apples. Very kind family. Nice tented area to sit and enjoy the cider/donuts. Love that they kept the goats and nice bee hives. They had tons of pies such as strawberry rhubarb which we were excited for. Overall will definitely be back and I love their cider and donut flavors.

The Erwin family finally decided to retire the business and luckily Blake's purchased it and took over the land. We decided to visit opening weekend to get ahead of the crowds and support the agrtitainment and orchards in the area. I already love Blake's and visit several times a year, so I am already a fan. While old Erwin's does look similar, it appears that Blake's is moving to update and modernize the space. We already miss the multiple flavors of donuts, but Blake's was baking four flavors for this season so far. They had plain, cinnamon sugar, caramel apple, and caramel apple with peanuts. All really delicious. We also tried their cider slushies which were a hit! In their store they already have the donuts and cider, but also some pies, turnovers, hand pies, bread, candy, candy apples, baking mixes, and fruit juices. We purchased some hand pies and turnovers this time but look forward to getting more goodies as the season progresses. They still have the You-Pick bags and a tractor to take you out. They also kept the goats, put fresh hay bales out for the kids, have the tricycles, and Bee 3D house which I believe they plan on monetizing like their traditional fun land in Armada. They took down the pain ball, which did make me sad. It states that they will have a corn maze (I think) and more to come on any spooky events. They had a farm stand outside the store with fresh produce and I hear a hard cider tent is coming soon, which I am definitely a fan! They will have an event next weekend for customers to open in the season which is why I came early to avoid the crowds. This is set to be an amazing turn over with a new business. I am so happy they are keeping the land to grow apples. There are so many old elements left to keep Erwin's customers like myself happy and more to come to preserve the land and bring Blake's fans to the area. I am excited to come back and see how it develops.

The donuts are average, dense and dry. Their El Chavo cider is delicious, but $8.50 is a bit much for a glass especially when they're glass sizes inconsistent. Purchased their Dutch apple pie for $20, it was delicious. Also bought 3 large pumpkins for $20, $.59 per pound. It's a fun place to check out, but be prepared to spend $$$.

In the middle of singing happy birthday to my 3 YO niece, this lady walks up to us and starts yelling at us and telling us we have to leave and that we can't have "a birthday party". The toddler starts crying. We are never coming back here again, none of us knew we can't sing happy birthday at a petting zoo, none of us knew we can't use a picnic table, there were no signs saying that. Even if she needed to tell us (paying customers) to leave, she could've talked to one of the adults instead of interrupting a child's happy birthday song and making her cry. We live 10 minutes away and we would've come back here if it wasn't for this rude woman. Apparently this is the owner, and she was being rude to her staff throughout the day as well. All of the other staff we came across were friendly and none of them told us we couldn't use a picnic table to sing happy birthday for the child. I still can't believe how rude this woman was to her customers and staff.

However, during our most recent visit, we noticed quite a few changes from previous years, and unfortunately, not all for the better. They no longer have the scenic hayride that used to include a free donut and a cup of apple cider with your ticket purchase. Now, it's $5 per person, and instead of a peaceful scenic ride, it stops at every station and they no longer give you a donut & cider with ticket purchase. When we asked about the change, we were told it was because they weren't making money off the old setup. I understand businesses need to adjust, but it really took away from the experience. That scenic ride with the cider and donut was always one of the highlights for us ; something we truly looked forward to every year. They did add more bouncy houses for the kids, which is nice, but the ones they had before were just as fun. The food was about the same, decent, but nothing special. It was noticeably more expensive this year. $5 for a single ear of corn felt excessive. On the positive side, the cinnamon donuts are still amazing, and the apple cider is as delicious as ever. I also enjoyed the wine tasting, which is always fun, though seating is still limited and could be improved. Overall, the visit just didn't have the same charm or warmth as before. We still had an okay time, but it didn't feel as memorable as past years. Sadly, I think this might be our last year visiting, we'll probably look for a new orchard next fall.
