BEWARE of reviews from the other (unaffiliated) Halo Salons-double check the location. I think…read moreyou'll find the negative reviews are not the Fort Collins/Loveland salons. All the more reason I felt I need to do a review of my favorite hair salon and color specialist. This is looooong over due! I have been a client for a couple of years now, and a blonde all my life, so this is a WELL INFORMED REVIEW. Finding someone (even at high end salons) that can return my locks to the NATURAL looking blonde of my youth has been A LOT of trial & error; ending up either looking like a spotted leopard when my hair was pulled back (due to bleeding) or a bleach bottle blonde (due to overlapping) after a few cycles. Even if they could get it right the first time, being CONSISTANT was another thing. Dawn has DEFINITELY been consistent and my hair. My hair has literally never been healthier. If you can't get in with Dawn you're still in luck, because on top of the training the stylist come in with, Dawn provides each of her stylists with additional one-on-one training on her techniques. I love this because EVERYBODY wins!

Best highlights I've ever had! She has a very warm personality and is easy to talk to. I've seen her cut children's hair while my color has been processing and she's got a very sweet nature with them, too. I also love that she doesn't try to sell me extra services or products and genuinely seems to understand that I'm a pretty low-maintenance person. The salon itself is a very clean and inviting space and they offer you a beverage (either alcoholic or not) when you arrive. I think the prices are very fair too, especially for an Old Town salon. Any of the other stylists I have talked to or watch work seem very nice and down to earth, with the similar attention to detail as Jacque has. Highly recommend Locks & Mane!

My hair looks like my hair again!…read more I have wavy, curly hair with some really curly sections and some really straight. It's kind of big and wild but that's how I like it. Usually my hair is really easy to deal with and looks great - jump out of the shower, scrunch in product and bounce. Lately though, I have not been happy with how it looked. It was unclear if my top section was just getting extra curly and turning into a pompom on top of my head or if the style I had just wasn't right. I had started seeing a new stylist who was trying to convince me to grow out all of my layers and after a few months I was starting to get the dreaded triangle head! Ugh! So I decided it was time to try a DevaCut. I wasn't sure if it was just a marketing gimic but I figured I had nothing to lose so I looked up the salons in the area that offer this type of cut and stumbled upon Salon deChelle. I called them up and explained that I have curly/wavy hair that was in need of a serious re-shaping and did they have any stylists who specialize in curly hair. The receptionist was very helpful and assured me that their DevaCurl certified stylist, Abby, was great with problematic curls. She explained what the appointment would consist of and how to prepare my hair for the appointment. Three days later I came in for my appointment. Abby seemed to know exactly what I was talking about with the issues I was having with my hair and I felt very comfortable leaving my hair in her hands (I love my hair and I've definitely had stylists who I suspected were feigning confidence in knowing how to deal with my hair and ended up giving me hair cuts not appropriate for my hair type whatsoever). With just about every snip of my hair I could see it looking better and better - even all poofed out from Abby's fingers running through it as she cut the layers. Once my hair was washed and product was placed Abby gave me some styling tips, diffused my hair (which I usually dislike but she left it wet enough that the usual frizz did not materialize), cleaned up a few pieces that weren't framing my face right and sent me on my way. I knew immediately that it was a great hair cut and just what I had needed! I'm so glad to have found Salon deChelle and Abby!!! My hair finally looks like I want it to, again! Thank you, Abby!!!

Overall, I had a very disappointing experience at The Cutlery Salon. I can only speak for my…read moreparticular stylist, since all of the staff here work independently. I saw one of the new owners, Dana. I think the issues began during the consultation. I showed her some pictures from Pinterest of some classic blonde styles. I mentioned that I was interested in having more lowlights added to my hair. Dana agreed that my hair needed "more dimension" and then proceeded to ask me some technical questions about how I wanted her to process my hair. I didn't realize it until later that she was creating a rooty blonde look. I know that it's a trend at the moment, but I don't think it was clearly communicated to me that this was look she was hoping to achieve. She proceeded to dye my entire head a dark brown color and then added blonde highlights. While this wasn't the style that I wanted, I had two larger issues with the experience. One was the execution of my look and second was that occasionally her comments felt condescending. She repeatedly said that my hair looked brassy when I came in, yet the brown she chose had reddish overtones. The blonde near my roots had a slight copper tinge to them as if it didn't process long enough. When I got home, I still had dye smeared on my face near my roots. I believe that this may have been an off day for her, but the resulting look I thought was worse than what I walked in with. I didn't notice the issues as much until I saw my hair in indoor lighting. The sloppy execution was pretty noticeable. Had I noticed these issues in the salon, I would've said something. Additionally, I felt that some of her comments further detracted from my experience. She seemed to form an opinion of my financial situation based on the fact that it's been several months since I had my hair cut and highlighted, stating "if you're on a budget" during our conversation. She continued in this manner of speaking to me when I asked for restaurant recommendations in Fort Collins. To Dana's credit, when I called to ask for more highlights, she did return my call, but by that point I decided that I needed a second opinion due to how poor my original experience had been. I went to a different salon where the stylist confirmed that wrong color of brown had been chosen and the blonde hadn't processed long enough. He meticulously colored over all of the brownish red and copper tones in my hair, so that I wouldn't have two layers of outgrowth. He treated me and my hair with the utmost care. Please save yourself the money and angst by choosing a different stylist or salon.
