    Lavender honey ice cream
    Julie Ying X.

I came here on a Sunday morning with a group of 5 people. What's great about the place is that it's not crowded especially if you go in the morning. Also, they don't charge admission which was great. The grounds were beautiful and definitely ideal for an outdoor wedding. The lavender field was small but you could still get great pictures of the lavender. There's a gift shop where they sell lavender products and lavender ice cream. The lavender ice cream was delicious (not too strong lavender if you're worried it would taste like soap) and you get a large portion for $5.00. I would definitely come back next summer for lavender season.

Here chicky, chicky: These pampered hens lay eggs, some that are pastel-colored(!) sold on-site. Do I see an Easter visit in your future?

Every once in awhile, if you're very lucky, you get to experience a place like this; a place that embodies the phrase "labor of love:" After a long day of apple picking, hubby, Mom, kid and I pulled up here with no clue what to expect. We were greeted warmly by Monica, one of the owners. She took us on an informal tour of the grounds, with the surprising highlight turning out to be a chicken coop, producing uber-fresh eggs that were sold on site. Those chickens were treated better than some children (sadly!), and had imprinted on Monica as their Mama. Since it was fall, the lavender wasn't in bloom, but it was still interesting to see the plants and hear some background on how the Farm got started. Monica, apparently, is a cancer survivor with a new lease on life and wanted to give up her soul-sucking job for something more meaningful. (Keep in mind I am totally paraphrasing here.) So a lavender farm it was. We spent quite a bit of time poking around in the Farm's quaint lavender-themed tsotchke shop, settling on some dried lavender filled sachets and a bottle of lavender-infused simple syrup, which we were told is featured in a specialty cocktail at one of the restaurants in the area. We chatted at length with Monica and her equally friendly husband, both of whom exuded a genuine niceness you don't come across every day. Hubby, Mom and I found ourselves rooting for them to succeed. Would love to return in June to pick some lavender when it's in full bloom.

Very quaint, calm place. Easy to find and no problem parking. There's a little inn you can stay in; I'd love to do that in the future! The lady who seemed to be the owner helped me learn how to cut lavender properly, and then I cut my own bunch of lavender to take home. They have all sorts of lavender products you can purchase as well. Lovely grounds to walk around on.

They have several food trucks with lots of different choices. They have a nice farmer's market that is nicely decorated and has plenty of items for sale. They have a great selection of pies too. Also, there is an ice cream stand next to the market opened daily, all ice cream is homemade and fresh! Their hot apple cider and cinnamon donut was a great treat! Since finding Ort Farms is not too far from us, we'll be back next year once the crops are back in season.

I found out about Ort Farms from a billboard I saw driving down 17. I wanted to find a farm that…read morehad a pumpkin patch but still had apple picking, and Ort Farms had both - so it was perfect! It was about an hour drive from me, so it wasn't too bad. We came on the last Sunday of September, so the pumpkin patch and hayrides were already open (I believe they open mid-September) but they still had some late varieties of apples. They had some veggies available for picking too - tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. You just need to purchase a bag and you can use it for both. Admission was about $15 per adult, which you have to purchase online. Kids 3 and under are free. We did the 9:30 time slot but didn't get there until 10, which didn't seem to be an issue. It's definitely best to go early so you can avoid as much of the crowd as possible. We spent almost three hours there and it was crowded by the time we left. The good thing about going in September is that most people don't want to go until October, so you get to avoid that mess. But the bad thing is that it's still probably really hot and if you're picking fruits/veggies in hot weather, it's not the most fun. By the time we were done picking apples and veggies, we were all hot and tired by the time we got to the pumpkin patch. So I'd suggest doing all of your photo ops at the pumpkin patch first and then doing all the manual labor. They have a few food trucks in one area and the apple cider slush was nice and refreshing after picking fruit. They also have a farm store with your usual suspects - pies, apple cider donuts, pre-made salads/sandwiches, etc., but we didn't buy anything. I think I found our new go-to farm. It's nice that you can kill two birds with one stone. I saw they have U-cut Christmas trees in December so I'm interested to see if they're doing any Christmas events - I wouldn't mind making the drive back.

I believe there were…read moreothers close to this one, but we went with Ochs because of the low admission fee ($5 per person) and petting zoo. It was an hour and a half drive from upper Manhattan. We went here on a random Wednesday afternoon so we basically had the orchard to ourselves. The first parking lot you see is for their store, you have to keep driving up for the u-pick orchard. There you check in to pay your admission fee, get your wristband, and get your apple picking bag(s). They give you a map where the ripe apples are highlighted for you. My favorite apples were the honeycrisp and snap dragons. They grow vegetables too but honestly we didn't explore the orchard that much (it was huge) so the only other thing I picked besides apples was a tomato, which I felt like was pretty difficult to find a good one. I handed out the apples to other friends and colleagues and they all liked them! There's something different about picking the apple straight off the tree than the apples you would normally just buy at a grocery store. It's a lot crispier when you pick them yourself! The store has apple cider doughnuts! Now being that I am a Californian where we don't have this apple picking culture, I was wondering what all the hype around apple cider doughnuts was about. NOW I GET IT they're so good! Unfortunately since we went on a weekday the doughnuts weren't fresh (they make them fresh on the weekends) so some of them were stale, but most were still good. It's honestly more of a cake than a doughnut, but so good! The doughnuts are self serve towards the back. The store also had a cat on the prowl haha We ended up not even having time to visit the petting zoo, but overall I think my colleagues had a good time here and I would recommend this orchard for anyone trying to have a no frills apple picking experience. I believe there was like a building restroom closer to the store and port o potties closer to the u-pick orchard.

The apple cider donuts are a must-try! We came on a winter day few days after Christmas and they had free samples of apple cider. I got some tea and honey to bring back home to FL. I also bought some apples and they were so soft inside and juicy. Unlike any other apple I've had. I wish I had a way to bring the Amish butter home since a family member has it in their home I often have it with bread in the morning. The staff were friendly, and everything was well-organized. Heads up It's a bit busy during peak times, but that's to be expected at a popular place. But when we came on a Saturday they were practically empty and lady made a joke not to come on the weekends so I assume normally it's a busy day or they dedicate it to stocking up since when we came I saw about 3 of the staff unboxing stuff. Overall, a really enjoyable experience with a charming atmosphere. I'll definitely be coming back next season!

This orchard was one of the last ones to still have apple picking available in the first week of November which we were super grateful for. The instructions were very simple and were had the best time enjoying ourselves in the orchard. The apples were absolutely delicious and we also bought other stuff in their store. The apple cider was delicious and so were the Donuts. The donuts were not too greasy and fried perfectly unlike a lot of other places which I absolutely loved. I grabbed a bag for my friend who also loved the donuts so much!! One thing I would love to see here is maybe some sort of savory or fresh food options, like a crepe station or panini situation. I would have loved to sit outside in the picnic tables and have a sandwich. After a whole day of apple picking that is probably the only thing that will push this 5 star experience over the top. If you are looking for a fun, family friendly outdoor activity, please come here!!
