I learned the hard way coming back from the Poconos that NJ farms don't really offer wine and cider like upstate NY farms do. But we were driving through NJ and had the autumn feels, so we stopped by here to get our fix. What they lacked in wine, they made up for with other fun experiences--and honestly, I had a much better time here sans alcohol than I did last year at the dreadful Wilkens Fruit & Fir Farm. Things Donaldson Farms has: apple picking, berry picking (or some other fruit), pony and horse, hay rides, pop-up grill restaurant, axe-throwing, blankets for sale, kettlecorn, and a nice, spacious farm market with fresh produce, meat, seafood, dairy, frozen treats, pasta, and baked goods. The apple cider donuts weren't in season yet when we went, but they should be out soon. The best part of the experience is probably that there is no charge to visit, and you pay for what you pick, with a small fee for the apple bag ($0.75) or the berry carton ($0.25). I picked berries, so I don't know what the apples cost, but my full carton only cost about $5.

Lunch was fabulous, the hosts were incredible and the sip and solve event was so fun!

Always having a family friendly event. We recently did the U-Pick raspberries. They had multiple vendors on site for a craft fair. While we picked our raspberries we were able to sample some of the local breweries newest beers. The kids like the new play set the farm has installed. The entire staff is friendly and helpful. It can be very crowded during the fall for the festivals they host. They have plenty of parking and the best sweet corn around.

Beautiful farm. They let you walk around and take pictures and enjoy the property. They have a lot of events and send out a weekly email with the events listed on the email. In the fall the sunflowers are beautiful. They have a produce stand. They are very accommodating and I have bough bulk plum tomatoes here for making fresh sauce. They were great and picked early in the morning. If you are in the area be sure to check it out and support a local farmer.

Their strawberry fields are amazing! It's a must visit for fresh and sweet strawberries! For pick your own I would advise to take your own basket, they sell some too but they dont allow plastic bags (kudos)! They have open playing space for kids and some baby goats in cages as well!

We went out of our way to visit this farm because one of the reviewers mentioned that their fruit is certified organic, which unfortunately isn't true. The prices of their pick your own fruits are $7.59 lb for berries, apples are $2.49 lb and Honey Crisp apples $3.99 lb. We asked if they were organic and were told NOT. For this price, you can purchase organic fruits at the supermarket. Will not be back here!

Awesome spot to bring your family for apple picking, pumpkins, raspberries or even to see some sun flowers! The farm is family run and everyone is super friendly and helpful! They offer many tours and will explain how farming works, very fun for the kids. The pricing is extremely decent as well compared to surrounding farms and competitors in the area. There is also a farmers market that offers all home made items directly from the farm making it easy to support your local farmers and get amazing fresh food. The various activities and pricing makes this place the perfect spot for your family, everyone is able to enjoy and have a great time without dipping to far into your wallet!

Car parking was easy as they have a huge parking area. No entrance fee, you just pay the apples that you pick. I love it that they provide you with a wagon, a basket, an apple picker and a plastic bag for a convenient and fun Apple picking experience. The staff gave us a warm welcome when we arrived at the apple orchard. They are friendly and knowledgeable about the farm, they know the areas where you are allowed to pick apples, they will give tips on the best Apple picking experience, help you find the right Apple variety for eating and baking and will have a chat with costumers to ensure that you will have a fun, safe and memorable day. Some of the Apple variety available in their farm includes Ginger gold, Gala, Honey crisp, McIntosh, Copeland, Macoun, Fiji, Red delicious, Golden delicious, Jonagold, Crisper, Cameo. After picking enough apples, we headed back to the pop-up canopies where we earlier met the staff. We noticed that they are selling a variety of vegetables which includes potatoes, string beans, egg plant, squash, corn and a few more. Aside from vegetables they are also selling fruit jellies, fruit preserves, fruit butters, fruit jams and fruit spreads. So we bought some of their goods and produce as we have noticed that they offer it at a fair price. All-in-all it was an idyllic day spent in the orchard, with a basket full of perfect, crisp apples and a heart full of happiness.

There wasnt any pumpkin left in the field to pick and the apples were not event there on the trees. I would definitely have to say hand down to the cute little store - there was a bakery side and oh my gosh the donuts , the cookies and the Tik Tok famous drink was out of this world. I hear it can…read moreget crowded on the weekends, but on Thursday when we arrived a little before noon, it wasn't bad. They had a steady stream of newcomers but not too crowded. It was fairly easy to find though going there, my map told me to go down a treacherous gravel road which I wasn't terribly fond of. They have a moderately sized parking lot and you'll see this large, red barn. That's where you get your goodies (there's often a line) and where their store is. We stopped by for a treat first. They sell ice cream, cider floats, and what is a "TikTok famous" coffee float with donut. We got: Cider ($4) - I didn't actually drink this. I got it for my kid with food allergies. He wanted ice cream but they do not know if the ice cream they use contains eggs or not so we played it safe. My kid thought it was okay but finally finished it later. He typically prefers regular apple juice. Cider float with donut - you have a choice of no donut for $2 less. It's like a root beer float but with cider instead of root beer, black and orange sprinkles around the time of the cup, whipped cream, and a powdered cider donut over it all. I shared this with my daughter. That donut was delicious! Warm, tender, and crisp on the outside. The drink was great! I do wish it came with a spoon because it got difficult finishing the last of it. Warning: if you have one of these, the bees are coming for you. They use some sort of caramel-like sauce to get the sprinkles to stick. Overall, quite good. Maple cider donut ($3): my sister got this and she said it was amazing, but she said she thought $3 was a bit much (the unglazed donuts are $1.25 each). She's vegan, so didn't partake in the float, but she also wasn't going to ask if there's milk in the donut. If you're getting only donuts, they are purchased in the store. They have tables and chairs nearby for you to picnic and enjoy your treats. Going through the gates, there was a table but they were busy with other people so we walked right in. There is no entrance fee, which was nice. You go through the apple orchard first. It seems like most of the apples have been picked through, though there are a lot of developing apples. Some of the nicer ones were way too tall for us; they don't provide ladders. We only managed to find one that looked nice. At the end, there used to be a sunflower field and the corn maze. It's epic but you don't know how formidable until you're past the point of return and realize it's not a kids maze. We were in there for a while! Even met other kids that thought they'd be lost forever. The corn stalks are taller than a human and they're pretty dense so you can't look over or through them. It's a true maze and I was impressed. I wish they would provide a paper maze puzzle of the corn maze because I'm so curious how it is from above. Lots of dead ends. What I can say is don't lose hope. You'll get there! (When we finally found the exit, it was almost like a dream because we had been staring at corn for so long.) In hindsight, it was good we ate something first. Once done, we explored the sunflowers and saw the pumpkin patch. As we headed out, we went to pay for our lone apple and we discovered THE CORN MAZE IS NOT FREE. It's $10 per adult and $5 per kid. They charged us $1 for the single apple. I guess they work on the honor system? I didn't mind much because that maze clearly took planning. Before we left, we visited the store full of baked goodies. I got a few cider donuts, a dumpling, and a piece of crumb cake because they just brought out a fresh tray. Plus a lattice harvest pie. The pies with crumble aren't vegan, but the lattice pies are made of vegetable shortening. Restrooms! They have a row of port-a-potties by the parking lot. They're actually the cleanest ones I've been to before. No sinks but they do have a dispenser of antibacterial hand gel. The openings are a bit large so if your kid needs to use the toilets, hold onto them. Overall, it was quite enjoyable and I definitely think everyone should go through a corn maze of this caliber at least once in their life. The apple pickings were sparse but at least you get delicious floats and donuts! Note: they have gluten free goodies in the store but they are nut based (almond flour). They also had one gluten free-vegan item.

I wanted to find a farm that…read morehad a pumpkin patch but still had apple picking, and Ort Farms had both - so it was perfect! It was about an hour drive from me, so it wasn't too bad. We came on the last Sunday of September, so the pumpkin patch and hayrides were already open (I believe they open mid-September) but they still had some late varieties of apples. They had some veggies available for picking too - tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. You just need to purchase a bag and you can use it for both. Admission was about $15 per adult, which you have to purchase online. Kids 3 and under are free. We did the 9:30 time slot but didn't get there until 10, which didn't seem to be an issue. It's definitely best to go early so you can avoid as much of the crowd as possible. We spent almost three hours there and it was crowded by the time we left. The good thing about going in September is that most people don't want to go until October, so you get to avoid that mess. But the bad thing is that it's still probably really hot and if you're picking fruits/veggies in hot weather, it's not the most fun. By the time we were done picking apples and veggies, we were all hot and tired by the time we got to the pumpkin patch. So I'd suggest doing all of your photo ops at the pumpkin patch first and then doing all the manual labor. They have a few food trucks in one area and the apple cider slush was nice and refreshing after picking fruit. They also have a farm store with your usual suspects - pies, apple cider donuts, pre-made salads/sandwiches, etc., but we didn't buy anything. I think I found our new go-to farm. It's nice that you can kill two birds with one stone. I saw they have U-cut Christmas trees in December so I'm interested to see if they're doing any Christmas events - I wouldn't mind making the drive back.

After researching several options with a mind toward reasonable entrance fees and fair prices per unit, Melick's was where we landed. At $5.99 per person for weekend pricing (which includes a free hayride to the furthest points of the orchard) at peak picking season, I felt it was worth the longer drive to get there. I also loved that they issued free plastic picking bags without the added cost, as many orchards are now wont to do. In late September, there were plenty of apples ripe for the picking, with clear signage to denote which types were ripe. Honeycrisp apples were a little more per pound, but once I tasted a few, it was clear why. True to its name, I've never bit into a more juicier or crunchier apple, and I've been spoiled for supermarket apples for good. Most folks seem to come for the apples, but I saw a fair number of people coming down from the fields with armloads of giant sunflowers. Of course, there's always the store at the front, with other farm-fresh produce, cider (both alcoholic and non), and baked goodies. The alcoholic apple cider was refreshing, with a light buzz that made time in the orchard just a little happier. No bags or backpacks are allowed in the orchard area, but there's a small picnic area with some tables and porta-potties at the very front. Our family came prepared with picnic blankets, and the folks here were totally fine with us setting up by the goats (who are fenced in, so there's no direct interaction but the children in our group had great fun watching them while we ate). Melick may not have all the frills and fancy fun of other orchards, but I was delighted by a few perks, like a small tire play area and a decently sized corn maze that was fun to walk through with the family. The parking lot doesn't seem all that large, but when we went, it never seemed to get so busy that it was impossible to find a spot.
