From the multiple unique and different pieces of equipment, to the precision of breath and each hand and foot placement, you can tell that the BASI method reaches a much deeper level of alignment and physical strength. On top of that, my first class teacher Priscilla, was not only adorable, but super professional. She first asked about my physical history (injuries or pain), then if I had done pilates before, and also paid special attention the fact that I also do yoga, karate, dance, and spin regularly. It was obvious that my body was overcompensating on some levels, and stubborn to change and realignment in some areas. She was kind yet stern, and corrected every detail of my body and breath throughout the entire class. I have to say that the class was surprisingly more difficult than I thought it would be. I love a challenge, and I can tell that this will be my new favorite one! I'm excited to see Priscilla again and also try out some other instructors as I've heard great things about many of them. I arrived 20 min prior to class. No one was sitting at the reception desk but there was a guy eating and listening to loud music at the table. It was still early so I patiently waited. In between his awful music selection and yelling at his phone in Chinese, I could hear calm yoga studio music that gets quickly interrupted by more of his music or his loud slurping and chewing of his noodles. 6:30pm arrives and still no instructor... The man is yelling at his phone again then tells me via google translate - no class today. What the heck??? I like how their cancellation policy would make me pay $28 for a late cancel or $31 for a no show but it's okay if they do it. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!!!!!!!!!! I booked this yoga class to relax and instead I had to deal with this frustration. The total opposite effect. If you see the pink schedule I don't even need to read Chinese to see there was suppose to be a Thursday evening class at 18:30-19:30 on the last row of the calendar. I don't recommend coming here. Everything was in Chinese writing. Even if the instructor showed up I'm not sure the instructions would have been in English. They could warn people in the class details if this was taught in Chinese only. I VALU my time too much to come back.

So don't miss class! I arrived 15 minutes early cause there is typically a waiver for first time visits to studios, but I was surprised there wasn't any paperwork for me to sign. The instructor, Peggy, came a few minutes before class time to let us in. There were 5 reformer beds. You will get a very intimate hands-on experience here. Peggy will come around and adjust you. She has advanced knowledge in sports medicine and it really shows during her lesson. She will adjust you to be in perfect alignment. I think this is great for someone with injuries who need this level of attention. Personally I don't like this much attention on me, and I don't really like getting touched. Also the studio doesn't have the ambiance I enjoy in other studios. No water dispenser. No selling of grip socks. She had a normal fan spinning, not like a ceiling fan that other studios thoughtfully installed. Also no music during class, so time passed by really slow for me. Out of curiosity I looked up the pricing for their packages and it starts at $225 for 5 reformer classes. This is much pricier than other studios I go to. Probably because of the smaller class sizes. Peggy's classes are great for health and alignment but it doesn't match with the type of work out I enjoy.

She explains exactly which muscle groups each movement targets and how to optimize engagement for each. There's no frills or fluff here, and her workouts are HARD and involve lots of isometric work in addition to the standard isotonic exercises. She really focuses on building a strong core, improving mobility, and helping you become aware of your body's natural deviations, so you can fix posture and develop balance. She's easy to get a hold of to schedule classes and has always responded to me in a timely manner with a great attitude. It's not worth deducting a star over, but the only negative thing I can possible say is that I wish she had more variation class to class. After taking six classes, it seemed a little too repetitive and became predictable, so I do attend other studios as well for variation to spice things up and do other movements (Pilates has 500+). That being said, no other studio has challenged me the way Peggy has. In two weeks, I had seen huge progress especially in my abdominals. Thanks to all the lower abdominal work, my four pack has become a faint six back and my obliques have finally come out to play - thanks Peggy! I've never had any back pain or spinal issues, but suddenly I feel better than ever when doing simple things like unloading laundry or pulling weeds from my garden. My spine feels like a steel rod while the rest of my body feels limber and loose. Her decades of experience and sport medicine training translates into real results for her clients. I was introduced to a few different workouts I haven't done before. Even at other studios. I even had a class that included a bit of cardio and others worked out legs and arms at the same time. After my first few classes I didn't feel sore after, but now I definitely do. The structure is mostly the same starting with core followed by a variation of legs, arms, and obliques. I also really like the last minute of core work at the end of class. I'm a night shift nurse and it conflicts with the current schedule where most classes are only in the morning. She's an outstanding Pilates instructor who has made a huge impact on my fitness journey.
