I saw this old hotel did tours, so I wanted to check it out. There is street parking and a small…read morelot. We didn't buy tickets in advance, but it was unclear where to go to get tickets and meet the tour. On the parking lot level, they rent out rooms to third party businesses who will not help direct you. The street parking level (downstairs) has a bunch of small shops and the ticket area way in the back. This was all pretty unclear the day of. The hotel seems like a work in progress still, but it's nice it was saved. The Delaware Water Gap used to be a hip and happening place and most of those turn of the century hotels are gone now, so it's nice this was saved from demolition thanks to a second era as a music publishing company by Fred Waring (of blender fame) and a third era as a restoration project from a couple wanting to save its history. The tour goes through the old soda shoppe, outside for a little bit to see the general area, then into the event venue space/original lobby. It's too bad there are no restored hotel rooms to see or book at present. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and seeing the remnants of tourism a hundred years ago was cool. I hope as time goes on, more areas get restored to their more original look.

I had a great tour of The Historic Castle Inn, in Delaware Water Gap. It was originally a resort…read morethat could welcome 400 guests. Then it was owned by Fred Waring Sr who was a vocal instructor and had a traveling jazz group called Warnings Pennsylvanians, and he also ran Shawnee Press at the castle and became one of the world's largest publishers and sellers of choral music. He had lots of famous people working with him including the writer of 'Conjunction Junction What's your Function'. The tour was just about and hour and definitely interesting! While you are there for the tour you can tour the shops, there is a nice assortment as well as an adorable Ice Cream shop. Definitely check the website before going, tours are only done on specific days. I felt the tour was a good value. There is limited off street parking, but on street parking it also available.

This was a super outdoor concert. The Blues Traveler attracted a New York City hometown crowd and…read morethis obviously pleased the Band who asked that they come on down and dance after the very 1st number. I didn't enjoy that since I had paid $50.00 ea for my 2 front row seats (a great deal, or so I thought!) and when the entire open space quickly filled up in front of me, I resigned myself to the fact that I was not gonna see the Blues Traveler perform from my seat any longer. My options were: get up and dance, complain to Management, and get more Budweiser. I loved the intimate venue which was perfect for a beautiful summer night. But, be advised, this concert was advertised as "rain or shine" and I didn't notice any seats with cover! The concert was entertaining. Traveler played for 2 hours w/o a break and they sounded great. Popper's voice sounded a little strained to me but his harmonica was still strong. I hope he is taking care of himself. Their opening act, the Jersey Syndicate, played a professional mix of rock and blues for 1 hour ahead of them. Security was attentive and parking was very convenient and no extra charge. I will definitely plan to attend another concert at the Sherman Summer Stage and hope for another great summer weather evening. Next time I will bring food. The available options were only wine, beer and bland pretzels. The location of the Sherman Summer Stage is behind the Mt Airy Casino. It was an easy 1 hour drive for us after we passed the Scranton Area on I-84 and followed directions on the GPS to Mt Pocono. They used above average portable stadium seats with great tush support and built in beverage cup holder. My report on the Casino will have to wait. The concert ended close to midnight and we had a 2 plus hour car ride back to Upstate New York to contend with. Kudos to the Mt Airy Casino for maintaining clean bathrooms and excellent security. I watched several smokers escorted out of the crowd when they lit up from their seats like assholes and I watched a few obvious drunks promptly removed before they could cause any problem. Here's wishing continued success to Sherman Outdoor Concerts!
