I just bought a used bike so I wanted to get everything checked out and adjusted. I had to leave the bike for 1 week for this service. When I picked the bike up they didn't adjust the brakes, the kickstand was almost impossible to move, and I don't think they even filled the tires. All for 60 bucks! I have always gone to Orange Cycle. I grew up in Santa Ana and all my bikes were purchased at Orange Cycle. Then when I had children, their bikes were always purchased at Orange Cycle. Recently, I went in to get my road bike repaired. Since it was a vintage bike from 1989, Armando pointed out a few things and it was decided I needed to trade-in that bike and get a new road bike. Between Armando and Joe, I was fitting with a great bike that I love! I got a new Specialized Allez, I got a great deal and I am so happy. I always know I can go in and Armando will answer all my questions and help me in any way possible. I love Orange Cycle. I live in Old Town Orange and Orange Cycle is a great cycle shop where you can trust that they will be honest, helpful and they are very knowledgeable! Can't recommend them enoough! read more

I went the other day to get my bike fixed; it had a flat. I got there around 9:30am and the service was good. Left my bike, went to get Starbucks, and when I came back, it was ready. Good customer service from the lady. Only downside is that I think they charge a bit too much but they were the closed option from my house, so I went along with it. read more

I suffer from chronic pain in my joints but I still want to make an effort to exercise. I love my motorcycles and I love riding bikes in general however pedaling for hours takes it's toll on me. So I recently discovered the wonderful world of pedal assist. After having lunch with my family in the Orange Circle, we decided to make our way here. We walked in and spoke with Al. I asked him if they had any small electrical bikes because I was in the market for one for my daughter after recently just purchasing one for myself and my wife. His immediate response was "We don't sell motorcycles... It's not really riding a bike if you don't pedal." With a smug look on his face. He made me feel like I wasn't good enough to be in his presence because I was inquiring about an electrical bike. Al was totally inconsiderate about why people might need pedal assist. He was extremely rude and I will not recommend anyone coming here. I have a large family collectively over 1 million followers across 3 social media platforms through my multiple businesses. When they start seeing my posts about bicycles, I definitely will NOT be recommending this shop. Here's a tip, Al. Be a little more polite to customers who walk in your door. I was very impressed with the Orange Cycle. They treated me like a friend, not a potential sale, and I will definitely be back. As a very tall man, it's difficult to find things in my size, but the staff there worked with me to find not only a bike that fit me, but one that I liked and fit with my style. Zach was incredibly helpful and friendly. I was greeted immediately upon entering the store, and Zach came out to help me find a bike that would be good for me. After asking some questions, Zach made some recommendations, including bikes that were very reasonable in price. I took the Giant for a test-ride and fell in love. Zach even tuned up the bike, put on fresh brakes and checked the rims and cables before I purchased it. I came back about a month later because the brakes had become squeaky, and Zach recognized me immediately and asked how he could help me out. He was happy to work on my bike, trying several different solutions before installing a fresh set of brake pads, free of charge, when the source of the problem couldn't be found. read more

This is a five-star rating from someone who hasn't even purchased a bike yet. They have done service for me on many occasions, at a very reasonable price. And even on a busy day Joe was willing to spend a great deal of time with my friend and me, helping us determine what bikes would be the best fit for us. I go to a business on numerous occasions and at different times to make sure I've gained a real perspective on that business before reviewing it because sometimes you might catch them on a bad day or a busy day and may not get their best customer service. I've never walked into a business where I walk in and am not greeted at all. Not just me but every customer unless its one of their good friends who they choose to talk to for long periods of time and for whatever reason can make eye contact with you but not greet you or ask if you need help with anything. I've came in there for small items but have also been willing to spend close to $1,000 in parts and apparel. If you go be prepared to look for items on your own and stand by the counter for long periods of time before one of the numerous employees there decides to finally "help" you. I've been there dozens of times to give them a fair chance but I realized they didn't deserve it. read more

Don't believe the negative reviews; the store is actually WORSE than can be described. 1 star is too generous! Upon arrival, there appeared to be three employees - two were helping customers - and we were the only customers in the store who didn't have someone helping us. In other words, there were NOT busy! The GF needed the restroom, she asked the old guy where it was, he pointed at the wall. The restroom door is covered by a large bicycle banner. So she walks to the cleverly-concealed door to find it's locked - not in use - just locked with a code required to enter. The GF looks at me, puzzled. I tell her it looks like it requires a code to enter. The old man THEN barks out 2100. WTF? He couldn't ascertain she'd need that the moment she asked where the restroom was?!? I was left plenty of time to browse their (pricey!) inventory. They have pretty bikes. If you don't know what you want, this is a place to get an idea of what exists, SO YOU CAN GO BUY IT ELSEWHERE. Not finding the parts I was seeking, I asked an employee, whose attention had turned from serving his customer to watching an NBA game, if they had stock. He pointed behind the counter and answered, "yeah, right here", then turned back to the game. At this point, I notice there are actually five employees and only two sets of customers. However, in one employee's defense, her extremely old age prevented me from seeking her assistance. I called it right! I'll explain why in a minute. Back to the game-watching fool: I rudely interrupted his game to ask if they had replacement rear reflectors for Nirve beach cruisers. All I get is, "Nah". So, I ask the uber-stupid question, "So if a kid breaks this reflector on his bike (pointing to a $500 kid's bike near me), there's no way to get a replacement?" He replies, "nope". [At this point, you decide what's more ridiculous - a child's bike for $500 or NOT being able to buy replacement parts for it!] Not happy with his answer, I question him with, "Seriously, you CAN'T get a replacement reflector?" This time, his genius reply is, "Most people take 'em off and throw 'em away, anyway." Sure they do, Einstein - SURE THEY DO. That's why you CAN BUY THEM on Nirve's website!!! [Reflector - rear fender mount, sku 2203 - http://nirve.com/cruiser-bike-accessories.asp?cid=3000 (Thank you to Nirve's customer service for helping me find it.)] Admittedly, I should have simply left the store. Instead, being conscious of how rude I was for interrupting his game-watching, I asked to purchase the item he helped me locate. He handed it to me and started yelling at the little old lady for moving his paperwork. AND THERE I STOOD! I had the item in my hand, just waiting for someone to take my F*&^ING MONEY! THIS ISN'T A JOKE! I stood at the register, where he'd handed me my purchase, trying to get ANY employee to take my money. I pulled out my credit card and held it out for ANY employee to take it. Just so it's clear - I am 6'2" and about 200#. I'm HARD to miss!! I intentionally left my Ninja-suit at home this day; I didn't even wear bike shop camouflage, Frodo's cloak of invisibility OR Harry Potter's Cloak of Invisibility.! I LITERALLY WAVED MY CREDIT CARD IN THE AIR until a young male employee, after walking by twice, finally rang me up. As mentioned, their prices are outrageous compared to Internet pricing, but sometimes you "have to have it now". I spent $43 at their shop for parts I can buy online for half as much including shipping, but I let impatience get the best of me. That's not their fault! Sadly, the parts didn't fit - no one's fault, really. I returned them 3 1/2 hours after buying them. The old gal mentioned earlier, had no idea what to do for the return and had to consult the grumpy old man. I got hosed with a hastily-crafted 8% credit card transaction fee. The old man, WHO WAS DRINKING WINE DURING BUSINESS HOURS, said they're now hit with higher transaction fees, so now they have to pass them along. Um, NO - there is NOT an 8% transaction fee on credit card transactions. At that moment, it didn't matter. I was happy to pay $3.10 to be out of the place and vowed to never return. JUST GO ELSEWHERE! For Road or Mountain bikes, go to Performance Bike in Tustin or Fountain Valley, instead. For beach cruisers, make the trek to Jones Bicycle in Long Beach. Either of those stores will offer infinitely superior customer service. read more

We bought the kids stunt bikes there at Christmas, and I remember that they'd painted in their windows "Keep the CHRIST in Christmas." Anyway, I got the kids bikes there and none of the folks were very friendly. I chalked it up to the holiday craziness, but we went back last night and bought the boys fixed gear bikes, and had the same experience--but worse. They keep a Bible displayed on a table near, and I heard one of the guys talking about church, but they were the least friendly folks and were gossiping/complaining about people out loud as they worked. To top it off, we asked if they recycled bikes and they said yes, that they donated them to a church. Well, after dropping off two kids bikes, a half hour later they were out on the sidewalk with "$50 OBO" on them. Just came in to look for an inner tube for my new bike. Walked in and the guy at the counter was anything but pleased I walked up to him. I proceed to ask him for a set of innertubes and he walks away mid sentence bringing me back innertubes and proceeds to charge me. I inform him that they are the wrong kind and size and he says what, i tell him i need 29" innertubes with and BOOM walks away again and doesn't bring me what i was about to ask for. This man was just in a hurry to get me out and was not helpful. I ended up leaving due to his HORRIBLE service and Ridiculous excuse for customer service skills. We have purchased 6 bikes from Orange Cycle, plus multiple accessories for these bikes over the past six years. We have always had the VERY best customer service and attention. The prices are reasonable and the employees really work with you to make sure you get exactly the right item for you and your budget. I have mostly purchased bikes for my children. The staff helped the kids get the right size bicycle and made sure the bike was in perfect condition before we left the store. When we wanted a "push bike" for my child, they willingly sold us a pedal bike and removed all the pedals and chains for us. When he was big enough to pedal the bike, they reinstalled the pedals, etc. for a minimal charge. Most recently, we purchased a bike for me! Armando spent the better part of an hour showing me different model bikes, raising the seat, adjusting the handle bars, even changing the kind of seat, to make sure I had the perfect bike. I was able to ride my new bike home! I so appreciate that I was able to test drive the bikes to determine what my best fit was. That same afternoon, we discovered my youngest son's bike seat needed to be raised. We returned to the shop. Armando raised the seat, filled the tires, and gave the bike a rub down all for no charge! We have never had a bad experience here. I love supporting a local, family-owned business. WE will be back! read more

Both helped me understand many dynamics of a bike, frame and what it's best used for. I loved the service they provided me and I'm very happy with my choice. As far as the Grandpa, we had an excellent conversation. I found him to be like all Grandpa's---loveable. People are too critical today. Just relax and enjoy life. Focus on the good things, instead of criticizing a business, constantly looking for the "bad". Bottom line... they have everything you could want! I called in to check on the availability of a bike I was interested in. Right from the beginning, whoever I spoke with on the phone gave me attitude. The answering machine went off at the same time he picked up so I couldn't hear anything over the both of them talking. I just gave him a heads up I couldn't hear anything due to the answering machine, and I was hit with a "Well I cant really do anything about it" with a really snide tone. Not sure where it came from. Oh well. A sour taste in my mouth but whatever. To my luck the size and color of the model I wanted was actually in stock. This was nice because the other two shops I had called earlier did not carry the color I was looking for. When I asked about the pricing he listed the retail price. Since there was a sale on the website for the model I wanted, I asked if that price would apply, and he just responded with a really rude and negative attitude! Said something along the lines of "Look I'm just letting you know the price I see on the computer" No need to get defensive, I just wanted to know if it would apply or not. The entire short 3 minute conversation I got the feeling he just didn't want to talk to me, so I guess he didn't want my business on a $800 dollar bike :/ The whole interaction left such a sour taste in my mouth, I went to yelp to check on other reviews and seems like I'm not alone. I don't care they have what I want in stock. Ill look elsewhere if this is how they are going to treat their customers. I went in to Orange Cycle to browse for a new bike to ride to/from college. I had no idea what I wanted and planned to just check out what kind of prices I would be looking at. They didn't have any cute bikes under around $500-600 which was surprising, but not terrible. Walked around the shop for about 10 minutes without being acknowledged. Finally I approached someone behind the desk and asked him some questions--I realize that I was unsure of what I wanted and needed, but he was honestly so rude. When I asked him basic questions he answered that he couldn't help me unless, "I had anything more specific" and until, "I had ANY idea of what I was looking for." I came in to Orange Cycle prepared to buy myself a commuter bike, but they treated me like an absolute idiot instead of just answering my stupid questions. About a week later, I bought an adorable bike on sale for around $300 cheaper than anything I saw at Orange Cycle, and my entire experience was SO much better. read more

I love this place. I bought my kids BMX, my Specialized MB and accessories here, I shopped around before and they have their stuff priced right. They have taken care of me every time for every concern and are really fair about that too and didn't nickle and dime me for everything. I will always be a customer as long as I live in SoCal. I have been here a few times in the last few years for repairs on my road bikes. Every time I have been there the employees go the extra mile to help me out. On my last visit, the repair required some odd-sized parts for a 20 year old Spectrum bottom bracket. They had the parts in stock and the cost for the parts and labor was very reasonable and I didn't even hesitate to pay the cost. Quick, same day service too. Everyone was helpful and friendly. I stopped by to check out a particular bike that I have been obsessed about over the years. I also wanted to inquire in regards to their layaway program. As I came in I was instantly welcomed by Joe and another young man who was in the counter. We kid around and slowly I addressed my obsession with the overlook image of the Dutch bikes. The bike was there but not the color I wanted. He then gave me a catalog I could go through and select the bike I want in which they can then order. As we talked I told Joe my main objectives and what I wanted right now for s bike. He recommended a dirt bike by Specialized. He was very patient and took me around the store to showed me the rest of the dirt bikes. Specialized was on sale, but I went for the next one up and ended up being an 8 speed pro line in black. He gave me a free lesson on how to read and go through the gears outside in the parking lot. It was a lot of fun and informative. I can't wait to go to the trails! This place is just awful. I have been in a handful of times and never once was asked if I needed help. When you finally do find someone to help you, they don't usually seem to know what they are talking about. Not to mention everything, even paying takes forever. They all move at a snail's pace. I went in recently, to have them tighten up all the factory assembled parts on a bike I ordered online. They charged me $15 to turn a wrench a couple times and when I got it home the chainring bolts and the locknut on the fixed gear cog were both loose. They didn't even touch the bike! I went in with my 3-year-old to see what kind of bike would fit him. An old guy, who was barefoot, not in uniform or with a name tag, who didn't introduce himself, started "helping" us. I only allowed this because I quickly deduced that he must be the owner as various staff members were taking directions from him. Anyway, his service was vague and apathetic. He tried to convince me that a 16" bike was the right size, based solely on the fact that his feet could reach the pedals. Nevermind that the bike was too heavy for him to actually pedal it. Did I mention it was appx. 100% overpriced? Anyway, I got interrupted by a phone call and when I turned to tell the guy we needed to leave to help a friend suddenly stranded by a broken car the guy was no where to be found. Apparently he had gone into the back for some reason. No one else seemed interested in helping us, so I put the bike back in the rack and we left. Why not 1 star? There is some small use in having a local store where you can pick up a replacement tube at a moment's notice. I don't see why I would EVER buy a bike or have one serviced by this store. read more

Walked in here because I was meeting a friend for lunch at Haven but was early. As I came in an employee was moving bikes and looked at me. I said hello and he turned away. I was checking out a bike when someone bumped me with a bike. It was the same guy. Usually when you bump someone you say, "excuse me." Not him. I found myself staring at him cuz I thought he had a beef against me or something. "Can I help you?' He asked, not looking at me. "Just looking around, you have a nice selection of bikes." I said. "Yup." He said, still not looking at me. And that was the end of that strange exchange! I can see why this place gets bad reviews on customer service. So I just had to write another review on this business because i was absolutely appalled at the lack of service we received last Thursday. My husband and I decided to take a Wednesday afternoon ride starting at Hart Park. Before we began, we thought we would drop in at Orange Cycle to look at bike accessories. We walked into the store and the owner and son were present. Neither acknowledged us, in fact the son looked our way and didn't even say "hi or welcome". Nobody else but the two of us were in the store and the entire time we browsed no one asked us "if we needed help or found everything we were looking for." Upon leaving, the owner sat eating food while chatting with somebody (not sure if it was an employee), but as we exited the store once again nobody said "thank you for coming by or even a thank you". I don't know about you; but I think that is TERRIBLE customer service. Next time we need something for our bikes it will not be at this store. In fact, I would like to put in a plug for Two-Wheeler Dealer in Brea. The owner took tons of time to fit my husband for the perfect cycling helmet. Now that is customer service! read more

DO NOT GO HERE; GO TO SWITCHBACK CYCLERY ON PROSPECT & CHAPMAN! i moved down here recently and have been trying to find a decent cyclery. orange cycle is the first i tried. i must say it is overly busy (i have no idea why...which i'll explain further). b/c of this, you would expect someone to say to you something along the lines of, "welcome. i'll be right with you shortly (after i do this)." but, nope...both times i've been there i just stand there awkwardly and wait. and then when you finally interact with a service person, they aren't very friendly. i remember the last time i went in, i waited about 10 to 15 mins. before i was even spoken to. one of the service reps was on the phone with some angry douchebag while i was waiting. once he got off the phone, i found it VERY unprofessional that he talked shit about the douchebag on the phone right in front of me. to further exacerbate this sense of unprofessionalism, the service rep took five minutes to vent to another service worker BEFORE he helped me!!! i couldn't believe it. also, i was looking to get my bike fit for awhile. i called orange cycle first, and they told me it costs $150!!!! i am not sure if this is a typical price, but i almost shit my pants. i actually just went to SWITCHBACK cyclery recently (please see my extremely positive review for them also on yelp). i bought shoes and clip-on pedals, had a tube replaced, asked for a fit, and had a tune up all for $250. on my receipt, it cost $5 for tube replaced and $50 for the tune up. they did NOT charge me for the fit (and the guy who fit me was SO nice, knowledgeable, and was extremely interested in making sure i would be able to enjoy riding with a good fit)! i mean, hearing $150 Orange versus...$0?!? maybe they did not charge me for the fit though b/c i did buy several items and services, which, if true, i believe is great customer service. and to be treated like a human being?...i just have no idea why you'd go to Orange Cycle. ok, i do have one idea why you'd go to Orange Cycle. they do have much more in stock than Switchback (although I think Switchback will order anything you want for you.) But, if you need something immediately, I guess I can see why you'd go to Orange Cycle. Just don't go to Orange for mechanical services! I also have to say one more positive thing about Orange Cycle--I bought a new seat to try a while ago, but it didn't suit me. They took it back without a problem. read more

They take good care of their customers. I got a defective crank on the bike I purchased here that would come loose every time I went trail riding. Rather than make me wait on the slow process of dealing with the bike manufacturer's rep, they just replaced the crank with a better option they had in-house. Today (a month later), I brought the bike in cause the flimsy preston valve on the tire broke off when I went to fill air. They sold me a new bike, there has to be some warranty on it but...John Sr insisted on charging me $10 labor charge. He keeps citing they don't make that much money on each bike sold. I'm not paying $10 for something they clearly should take care of. They all need to learn a thing or 2 about Customer Service. I came in with a boxed bike from another company that had promised free assembly only to find out it would be a wait of three weeks. I came in and was immediately helped by Joe. He came out to my car, helped bring in my item, complimented me on getting it in my small car. Then proceeded to help me with my own process of finding accessories for the bike. He was very helpful, attentive, and gave me a time/date when to expect my bike to be completed. He said I could get it done myself but asked me if I said several parts necessary.
