You can expect to find a flat and very walkable trail that winds through woods with plenty of pretty water views, boardwalks, and wooden bridges. You'll also see around a dozen informational panels that describe the various species of birds found in the park. One of the first things we saw was one of the coolest things we saw! The founder and first president of the CT Audubon Society was Mabel Osgood Wright, and after her 1934 passing, her will provided for the construction of a free-standing chimney to provide a nesting "home" for her favorite bird - the Chimney Swift. What is the CT Audobon Society? Their website says the Society "protects CT's bords, other wildlife, and their habitats through conservation, education, and advocacy. Founded in 1898, Connecticut Audubon manages 22 wildlife sanctuaries encompassing more than 3,400 acres of open space in Connecticut and educates over 100,000 children and adults annually." There is a museum on site, but it is under renovation and was closed.

We did hear a lot of birds singing but did not get any photos of them. The grounds were beautiful and an easy drive onto the highway from there. This is the first private bird sanctuary in the United States and the gardens are planted and taken care of by the Fairfield, CT garden club. They do a beautiful job, I am so glad I visited. It was also great to read about the founder of the sanctuary, Mabel Osgood Wright and see the chimney she had erected so a local chimney swift bird could nest there and raise their chicks.

This is my first time going to a Renaissance Festival so I didn't know what to expect. I had a good…read moretime even though this isn't a typical event I prefer to attend. But when your wife and kids ask you to do something, you normally do. This fair was in Ansonia.Yesterday was the last day, I'm not sure how often they do this fair, I think it's once or twice a year. Lots of activities for the kids, lots of vendors, and my favorite the food trucks. It were too. We ended up getting from the melting truck. Deliciously made grilled cheeses with lots of options. They put a nice cheese crust on top to give it a little extra flavor. They were also multiple different stage shows from magic, to fighting, to singing. Many people were dressed up as fantasy characters or in medieval garments. Others like myself or just dress to be comfortable. Either way it was a good time. Looking forward to seeing what other Renaissance Festival's are like.

As a vegetarian, I was surprised and happy that they had lots of food options for me to eat. Beans and Rice was my favorite truck! But for my BBQ loving friend- he was VERY disappointed. There was only ONE BBQ truck we could find. And there was a rib eating contest. Other than that, no other BBQ. Which wouldn't have been a big deal if it wasn't in the name of the festival. The live music was great. We didn't know it was on a hill and we didn't bring chairs so unfortunately we had to sit in the grass. I was disappointed there weren't any chairs for rent and as a result had to sit in the grass to enjoy the music. Was not happy with the alcohol selection. Four beers on tap- 2 Fat Tires, a Pilsner and a Voodoo Ranger. Margaritas, Knob Creek and Tito's. Not much of an alcohol selection. All in all, I would probably only come back if I won free tickets again. I ended up spending around $70 for being there for 4 hours.

They encourage you to BYO for drinks and food which was a nice concept with the current inflation. They did have a small concession stand that sold popcorn, candy, coffee and sodas. We enjoyed the show and felt comfortable in the performance space. This venue has no parking lot. You need to street park or pay for garage parking.

This place randomly showed up on my Facebook feed, and it looked interesting, so I checked it out…read more I'm not exactly into trolleys and/or trains, but it looked fun, and it was cheap to do. Anyway, you take a short trolley ride, with really not much scenery other than some bald eagle nesting posts. Then you ride back and stop at a site with other vintage trolleys. A neat thing is the seats switch back and forth depending on which way you're going. At the beginning is also a mini museum which you can check out before/after your ride. It's a fun hour or so; one ticket gives you unlimited rides for that day, so it really is a good value.

Take a ride into the past at the Shore Line Trolley Museum. Your adventure begins in the middle of a residential neighborhood at the Sprague Visitor's Center- it's the ticketing office, museum and gift shop. But the real adventure begins just outside the Center's front door where you see a set of train tracks. Hop aboard a 103-year-old trolley car and take a 1.5-mile scenic ride through a salt marsh, past the sandstone quarries, cross over from East Haven into Branford, see a few osprey nests, and spend a half hour or so at the trolley barn for a lesson on the museum's collection of street railway vehicles. There are nearly 100 vintage transit vehicles on site. Our tour guide was a delightful fellow named J. Calvin, and he was a wealth of knowledge as he spoke about the history of public transport, the difference between trolley cars, street cars, and cable cars. We stopped at about a dozen vehicles for a briefing including a horse drawn car and a mail car. We also saw a very chilling exhibit - a NYC subway car that was trapped under a pile of rubble in a tunnel connected to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. It was in perfect condition and after excavation was sent to Shoreline. I have to give another shoutout to our tour guide who did a great job interacting with the children in our group and made one little boy's day when he asked him to push a button on a pole, to engage the flashing lights, clanging bells and gate for a train crossing.

The Dudley Farm Museum is a gem. The docents were extremely knowledgeable. The museum captures…read morefarm life from 1854 which is amazing and serves to understand how life arrived at where it is today. There is also a Quinnipiac native American museum building colocated on the site which capsulizes native American life in CT from over 12,000 years ago just after the glaciers receded. It takes a moment to grasp the significance of the timeline, but there are a number of stone tools and spear/arrow heads dating back 12,000 years! Incredible! There are over a dozen specialty buildings on the site representing an enterprise of some scale. The docent revealed very interesting information regarding the State of CT's relationship with the South and its slaveholding situation and relatively late abolition of slavery. Excellent museum not adequately advertised.

The section covering the Ah-beetz factions and the background about the Amistad history was fascinating and humbling. Even the little bookstore had something for everyone. It is a small stadium housing about 1800. There are two levels of seating - blue (molded plastic back) and red (benches with back support) - with reasonable prices, and pretty much every seat has a good view of the game. The snack bar is tiny and basic - hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, popcorn, soda - but everything is tasty. If you're looking for a fun time out for the family, this is a great choice at a great price.
