Highly surprised by this experience, have had mostly positive experiences in the past. After a simple extraction, a specific provider used a water syringe way too soon--which gave me a dry socket. Then he prescribed an antibiotic (which, in many medical circles, is completely avoided because of this very reason) that directly contradicts ADA guidelines, and as a result, I developed a serious, gut-wrenching intestinal infection that could've been completely avoided. When I called to ask for an explanation, scared and in pain, his response? "I sense your doubt, so you can submit a medical review if you think I did something wrong." Negligent, arrogant, and clearly not up-to-date on safe practices. I regret ever walking into that office. I have developed more issues than i started with as a result. read more

They are very expensive, and are not willing to work with you financially to make treatment affordable. The only option they offered was to take out a loan. On top of that, today, I received a bill from them for the first time, saying I'm at least 91 days late, in the amount of $137 for "professional consultation." $137 for a 5 minute discussion. Oh, the dreaded wisdom teeth extraction. No, mine were not impacted, but that is not the point here. After a little over two years, I felt enough was enough, and told my dentist I wanted to get them out. The discomfort level was getting enough to where it had to be done. My dentist set me up with an appointment with the Oral Surgery Group, the same group that my father and brother used for their dental procedures. I had an appointment on Columbus Day, where I met with Dr. Engel in the East Brunswick office. He was reassuring and gave a thorough consultation on what everything looked like and the best course of option to take. I was hoping he would pull the teeth that day, but for various reasons, he would not do it. Instead, I scheduled to get them pulled Black Friday, at the New Brunswick office with Dr. Richard Stern, as that is when most people in my family would be around to help. On that day I went in and being anxious, I met with Dr. Stern just before the procedure. He could not have been more comforting and kind. I was offered whether or not I wanted to keep my teeth. I was also offered a choice of music to listen to during the procedure, and made it quite painless. I knew what was going on, but my mouth was numb and did not feel anything. He was truly terrific. After the procedure (about a half hour I was told), they gave me a goodie bag of stuff to take home, and oh yes, the teeth were in there too! So far nearly a week in I can say I am happy I went here. My recovery has been as what you would expect, and I hope a full recovery comes in the days ahead. It was nice that they even called to check on me the next day after having everything done! The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly, and fast paced. When I was getting my tooth extracted, the dentist must have asked me about 6 times if I was okay, or felt any pain. She was absolutely amazing! When I visited, I had an emergency extraction I needed. I called around asking for an appointment that day. Everyone was booked for weeks. I just got back from having an emergency tooth extraction done by Dr. Engel of the Oral Surgery Group, and on the ride home, I said to my Lyft driver, "That's the first business I've ever been to where everyone seems to love their job." And, truly, every person I encountered, from scheduling the appointment to the financial person, was kind and caring. Weirdly, this oral surgery was the highlight of my day! This is mainly due to the warm, welcoming, supportive environment that I've just left. Since we're in the middle of a pandemic, of course, the office has to take precautions, and they did: they take your temperature, you must fill out a form with such questions as, "Do you have a runny nose or sore throat," and everything is wiped down appropriately -- even the clipboard with the paperwork on it after I'd touched it. During the extraction, I realized that Dr. Engel must have a background in education in some way, because he explained everything so well. I also appreciated that he made a point of reassuring me during the surgery. "Doing good," he said. "It's going well." After the surgery was done, I was led to a patient recovery area where I sat for half an hour or so, and was given gauze and after-care instructions. I wish I could remember the names of all the kind staff members who took care of me, but here are some of them: Dr. Engel, Althea, Faiza, Denise, Kelly, Melissa, and Caroline. Even during a pandemic and behind masks, the compassion and warmth of the staff came through, and for that, I am grateful. read more

I can not begin to describe how amazing and wonderful my experience was. From the moment I walked in to the second I left after my procedure I felt nothing but peace and relief. The staff were great in walking me through paperwork, the options I had as well as inquiring with me in regards to my needs. The assistants were so kind in making sure I wasn't too nervous being that I was going in for some extractions and that alone is nerve wracking. Dr.Michael Stern and his team were excellent!! Any questions I had or even thought of asking were not left unanswered. Dr.Stern kept reassuring and asking if I was doing okay the whole procedure as well as describing every step of the way. I went in for my wisdom tooth extraction. Clearly indicated that I was allergic to penicillin on the forms as well as verbally confirmed. When I went to pick up my prescription at the pharmacy, I didn't realize that the doctor had prescribed me amoxicillin and took the first dose. Luckily, I didn't experience any side effects. It wasn't until I called the office to tell them of this error and the severity this could have caused, that they then prescribed me the correct medication. This is an egregious error on the physician and the staff. I will never go back nor will recommend this place to anyone, especially if you have children who have allergies. Clearly they do not follow their own procedures for insuring correct medications are prescribed. read more

They do a great job here! The office is clean, and a very relaxing place for an appointment! Dr. Stern did a great job of taking care of my teeth by taking my tooth out, and moving it to another side of my mouth, so another tooth was able to grow in faster! I actually find oral surgery fun, and I liked having all the tools in my mouth, and having the laughing gas! It helped me relax a bit! Service was very slow though. I waited 40 minutes to be seen, and a patient who checked in after me went first. Maybe his appointment was for earlier not sure. However, they weren't even busy. So I was a little confused on the long wait! But, overall, this is a great oral surgery group! read more

I had 3 extractions over 10 years at this place and 2 at different places. The doctors were excellent and beyond comparison. I will never go any place else. But it was one dental assistant that made a very difficult extraction (my molar shattered during the extraction) turn tail and become one of the most memorable medical procedures I ever encountered. As things tend to happen with my teeth, the unexpected decided to drop bye and turn a routine and innocuous procedure into a trauma of epic proportions. As my acute awareness to the complication caused my anxiety to rise as bits of my tooth rebounded off of the dental visor, immediately the dental assistant knew it was turning south for me and her simple action meant the world to little ole me. She laid her hand on my shoulder and the next thing I knew, this unnerving and unsettling experience became tolerable. It was her instantaneous, soothing, compassionate interaction that lessened my growing apprehension so the Doctor could do his magic and turn that puppy around. I honestly think her intuitive touch saved me from more discomfort then I was willing to endure. Now if only I could say the same for the billing Dept. They were quite curt and rather unbending to work with my tight budget. That I did not enjoy, when clearly they "know where you live" and see that you are "gainfully employed", they would not work with the unexpected emergency procedure, the winter holidays, and my educators income. It was immediate letters and phone calls before my socket was even healed. Geesh! Chill people. I know you must deal with cheats and frauds but some of us are trustworthy even if we can't come up with a couple of hundred bucks within 30days! read more

Went to the New Brunswick location for 2 appointments: consultation and extraction (4 teeth). Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Waited less than 10 minutes for both appointments (consultation at the end of the day, operation first thing in the morning). My doctor was friendly and informative and not pushy -- provided alternative solutions with other specialists. Described the procedure and any risks associated and everything went just as planned -- took under 2 hours for the prep, procedure, post-op rest. They provided a detailed estimates of costs and made sure to let me know this was only an estimate and may change depending on actual insurance charges. Someone called to make sure I didn't have any questions associated with the charges. Will update my review if cost ends up being significantly more (which was the case with the previous review.) Only small concerns: no late hours available. Didn't receive Rx until after the procedure -- had to run around town calling pharmacies to see where the painkiller was available as my anesthesia/other painkillers they provided during the procedure began to wear off. Dr. Stern and his staff are absolutely excellent. My children have been there multiple times over the years for numerous tooth extractions. Every time we go the staff is friendly and compassionate . They always honor the appointment time and never leave you sitting in the waiting room for too long. Dr. Stern anyways takes the time to explain exactly what he will be doing, what to expect, and is sure to address any concerns that either the kids or I have. We never feel rushed and he is truly focused only on us when we are with him. My daughter swears that "only Dr. Stern can pull her teeth" - Truly competent and compassionate. Dr. Stern and his staff were professional, accommodating and caring. My son needed an extraction prior to orthodontic appointments for an expander. I was given the first available appointment late April. When I spoke with the orthodontist's office, they informed me the timeline wouldn't work with my son's late June departure to sleepaway camp, and that Dr. Overcash, our orthodontist (also phenomenal) didn't want to wait until September to proceed. Not only did Dr. Stern make arrangements to come into the office early the following Monday to meet our scheduling needs, but his office called the very next day to follow up and check on my son to see how he was feeling. I was happy with the oral surgeon, but not their billing department. Oral Surgery Group participates in the Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield DENTAL network, but not in their MEDICAL network. If your procedure is covered under medical insurance (e.g., wisdom teeth extraction), Horizon won't pay. There are many other fine oral surgeons in Middlesex and Somerset counties that accept Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield for both MEDICAL and DENTAL procedures. Edited: Yelp says they don't allow merchants to delete or alter reviews, but they do apparently have a way to hide ones that merchants don't like so that Yelp users only see glowing reviews. read more

Seems like a nice place and while the staff were polite, we waited over an hour and a half to be seen. We checked in early for our appointment and sat and watched as 5 people were brought back before us. I understand we were added in, but if you are adding us in and we arrive when we are told to, we should be seen at our scheduled time. Not left to wait for 90 minutes while other patients are brought back. Kind of frustrating, especially with the good reviews I read before coming here. read more

I needed a tooth extraction/bone graft done and my dentist recommended Dr. Richard Stern. The extraction was quick, painless, and an overall good experience. My dentist was very happy when she saw Dr. Stern's bone grafting. A couple months passed and I moved to New York City. When it came time to get a dental implant to replace my tooth, I couldn't imagine having someone other than Dr. Stern perform the implant surgery. Dr. Stern and his office go over the whole process with you, sit down with you to discuss the costs, and are quick to follow up with you. Thank you for an easy process to extract my 2 wisdom teeth. I highly recommend the IV sedation -- it eliminated the anxiety and stress of feeling or hearing anything during the procedure. I even felt good enough to go to work within 3 hours of leaving the office. This was my 3rd wisdom tooth extraction in 3 years. The prior one did not have IV sedation and was more traumatic for me to experience as you are very much aware of what they are doing to remove the tooth. The staff and doctors are kind, they explain everything and their follow up after the procedure ensures you heal without issues. read more

After coming here and checking out the dentist Richard Stern (who was going to be the one operating) online, everything I found eased me immediately. I originally headed to the office in hopes of getting a dental implant. As a 17-year-old, a molar implant was a bit unusual and I did not have the best dental history. Upon arrival, I was assigned to Dr. Micheal Stern. While looking at my x-rays, Dr. Stern notified me that my wisdom teeth were growing in impacted and that there was an infection resulting in bone loss on the opposite side of my desired implant. My first operation covered 5 extractions ( wisdom teeth + infected tooth) and bone grafting to help build up the deteriorating bone. Dr. Stern and the entire team was so great and my comfort was the number one priority. After about 5 months I returned to have the posts for 2 implants inserted and more bone grafting to ensure the best result. My second surgery was just as comfortable and successful as the first. Not only did Dr. Stern and the staff at the Oral Surgery Group make a scary and dreadful experience as easy as possible, they were also able to recommend me to a great dentist to finish the implant procedure and get my crowns fitted to the posts.
