To the several reviews (from years past) suggesting that some of the receptionists/front desk staff here could have been borderline unfriendly/standoff-ish, I have to give this place 5 stars if we're solely considering the present time (ala 2013 approaching 2014) alone. Of the current front desk staff working at this South Loop location the overall customer service, friendliness, professionalism, and most importantly sincerity has improved drastically!! (I really believe that the shot callers for this particular posh business pay really close attention to the overall YELP feedback!)~ this improved service makes me feel less hesitant to drop several+ grand to get my chompers looking 'so fresh & so clean!' (ala Andre2000).... yeah buddy! On a more serious note, 'LISA' is by far one of the most friendly/helpful representatives this location has had, EVER- I hope she stays here for a long, long time =) read more

Dr. Koos extracted my upper left molar and did an incredible job. The extraction had to be harder than usual since I am not able to open my mouth very wide. I was very concerned about how this extraction could possible by achieved. I have been pretty much pain free and have had absolutely no swelling since the extraction, yesterday. The office staff are all very pleasant. The team and the decor of the office is both contribute to a calming environment. read more

The staff at ORA Dental are extremely helpful and assertive to helping your needs. They are also very concerned about the current situation we're in with Covid and followed proper safety precautions which made me reassured I would be taken care of. Dr. Koos was very professional with handling my tooth extraction. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone who's considering any dental procedures because the team at this location are amazing ;) read more

I had the misfortune of breaking a wisdom tooth 2 weeks after I had hip replacement surgery. Recovering from hip surgery is hard enough. But now, facing oral surgery to extract wisdom teeth, and the potential to get an infection at the implant site from dental work left me very worried. My fears were put to rest by Dr Koos and his staff at Ora Oral Surgery. I was able to get an emergency appointment the next day for a consultation and the wisdom teeth extraction two days later. At the consultation, Dr Koos thoroughly explained what had to be done, how it would be done, and how he would minimize the risk of infection. He answered all my questions. I never felt rushed. Dr Koos knowledge and professional is outstanding. He was fully versed in all the protocols to follow for someone like me with an implant to minimize the risk of infection. The day of the procedure everything went smoothly. The extraction was painless. They gave me a little nitrous before the procedure that calmed me down. Dr Koos assistant was warm and friendly. Our little chat really got my mind off the whole procedure. Dr Koos came in and painlessly inserted the IV needle in my arm to administer the anesthesia. The last thing I remember was telling Dr Koos that I didn't like the band Coldplay, but for some reason, the Coldplay song playing in the surgical room was relaxing me. Then bam! I was out cold. I woke up; the teeth were out; there was not much swelling nor pain. Everything went smoothly with as little pain as possible. I am one week in my recovery as I write this review. The recovery has gone perfectly. Dr Koos is one of the best Oral Surgeons period! He and his staff are caring and professional people. You will be in superb hands if you need oral surgery. Thank you Dr Koos and the wonderful staff at Ora! read more

Dr. Kralj is amazing. I had bad anxiety from injections specifically anesthetic injections but he was so mindful about each step he was going to take that the whole process was actually dare I say it, an enjoyable experience. I was able to overcome my fears thanks to Dr. Kralj. THANK YOU! read more

I waited to write a review until I had gotten all my wisdom teeth out. Well, today was that big day. Went in at 1, and walked (okay, clumsily teetered) out of the office at 2:15. I. Don't. Remember. A. Thing. ...and I thought I was going to, with my brain being on high alert all the time. Nope. The last thing I remember was Dr. Koos telling a story about a lady with sleep apnea on an airplane and then...nothing. I don't even remember being woken up, only that I was. I drifted into oblivion listening to Coldplay, got all three of my wisdom teeth drilled out of my head, and woke up so giddy I couldn't stop talking--the nurse had to basically tell me to stop talking and kept re-positioning the gauze in my mouth. They called my friend and I a taxi, and it was waiting for us as soon as I had sat in the "halfway" room for a bit. So smooth, so effortless. I highly recommend. read more

I was referred by my dentist since I'm under a DMO for a molar extract and implant. My primary dentist told me it'd cost about $3,000 - 4,000. After seeing Dr. Koos, I was told I needed a sinus lift and was quoted at $12,000 for the entire procedure and zero dollars would be covered under insurance. After waiting over 90 minutes to see the doctor, he spent about 7 minutes with me, which included playing a video on his website. Apparently he spent an extra 90 minutes with the patient before answering questions in his consultation. After no one attending to me for maybe another 10 minutes and awkwardly standing around waiting for my quote, a lady at the front desk showed me my $12,000 quote. The doctor had already left for the day before I could ask any questions about the quote. Today I saw another oral surgeon who extracted my tooth. It was covered under insurance, and was $400. Dr. Koos' office quoted me at $1,200, no insurance. Also, he said I don't need a sinus lift, let alone an implant. Basically, he said that Dr. Koos tried to "rob" me and was in total shock. Not only was I quoted at an extra $8,000, I was going to have a major surgery on my sinus (that should have cost $800) for $6,000 that was not needed in the first place. I suggest getting a second opinion before proceeding with surgery from Ora. read more

If I could just rate the dentist, I would of given this place 5 stars but the receptionist lady ruined the experience for me. Once I was in the chair, she came in and told me how much the cost for the service was going to be. However, when I went to check out she added $150 to the original price. If you tell someone that the service is going to be $350 then it should be $350 and nothing more. You shouldn't add expenses to the appointment after the appointment has taken place. This is simply a LIE !! I was expecting to pay $350 and that is what I was comfortable with paying and agreed to pay. She tried to charge me an extra $100 for x-rays which I didn't even have done and then she charged me an extra $50 for a consulting fee. The consulting fee was never discussed the first time around and I did end up paying it because I was in a hurry to get back to work. She ripped me off because the dentist didn't "consult" with me about anything. He simply did what the appointment was scheduled for and nothing more. Nonetheless, he did an excellent job and I would go back to him if it wasn't for the women upfront who scammed me. If you go here, be careful of "consulting fees" and other BS that she might try to sneak into your bill. read more

My daughter goes to school in Chicago. We are from Ohio. Her wisdom teeth popped-up, fast, and we needed an oral surgeon. We found Dr Koos and what a blessing! He is skilled, kind, thorough, and has the sweetest staff ever! Her surgery was the day before Thanksgiving. He called us that night and again on the holiday. She had no swelling. Little pain. And zero complications. Highly recommend!! read more

I have been to ORA twice, once to have my wisdom teeth extracted and yesterday to have a molar extracted. Both procedures were done by Dr Koos. He is excellent! The first time I was put to sleep but the last time I was awake. I was a little worried about the last one but Dr. Koos explained what he was doing the entire time so it wasn't bad at all! With both extractions I had minimal pain and no swelling. He and his staff are very good with explaining the aftercare and he calls to make sure you aren't having any issues. I highly recommend Dr Koos. read more

I absolutely DESPISE going to the dentist. I avoid it as much as I can, but when you do that things, happen where you're worse off---lesson learned. I started with a gnarly toothache on Saturday and didn't think much of it. My wisdom tooth had been coming out for some time now and it only bothered me for a day or so. Boy, was I completely wrong this time. The pain didn't go away and there I was Sunday night into Monday morning not being able to sleep because of the crazy pain coming from my mouth! I called a bunch of dental places inquiring about emergency wisdom tooth removal and nobody in my area could give me an appt. Then I called ORA. The nice woman took my information and said they could schedule me for an appt on Wednesday, Aug 12---normally, I would've cried, BUT they were the only dental group that could fit me in as soon as possible. Another location tried to schedule me on 8/28!!!!! Nobody wants to wait that long with a pain that doesn't let you sleep at night and makes you cry (I admit it---that's how awful it was). I came in early for my appointment. I never like being late because it's better to be there earlier than have them waiting on you. They gave me a fancy computer where I registered my info (since it was my first time) and I sat and waited--I brought a book and watched some HGTV. They called me in and immediately took panoramic X-Rays of my head to determine what needed to be done. I was then seated in a room where the chair gave me a massage! Yes, my teeth were hurting BUT it was like a rub on my shoulder telling me that everything was going to be alright! Dr. Jason came in and we discussed what was going on. The pain was caused by an infection at my wisdom tooth---since it was so far back something must've gotten in and aggravated it. He prescribed me some antibiotics and gave me 800mg of Ibuprofen. I'll be honest, I was ready to cause a scene and get upset if I didn't get the procedure done that very day (that's what happens when you get very little sleep and it hurts to eat) but there was something about Dr. Jason that was reassuring. I trusted him and believed him when he said he wanted to have the antibiotics work a little before removing my teeth. We decided to get all three of my wisdom teeth removed and he left me with Ali to schedule the appt. Poor Ali should get a raise because she was not only doing her job (the oral surgery side) but she was helping the front with people checking in and juggling phone calls. I sat patiently...yes I was in pain but I understand when things happen. She came by as soon as she could with the treatment plan and explained the process. She asked when I would like to set up the surgery and without hesitation I said ASAP. She said Dr. Jason wasn't available until Tuesday (!!!!) which made me feel bad because he was so helpful and thorough, but I needed these suckers out because I was gonna go crazy so we decided on Friday at 11:15 with Dr. Koos (the owner). I arrived almost 45 mins earlier than scheduled-I wasn't gonna let ANYTHING get in my way of getting these painful teeth out! My mother came with me and was very skeptical about being put under (let's go back to me despising going to see the dentist) why would I be awake for something this traumatizing? Nancy called me in and took me to the surgical room. It was very clean and there was pleasant music playing in the background. Dr. Koos introduced himself and he was very nice and reassuring. He explained the procedure to me and I felt very at ease. Nancy hooked me up to take my blood pressure and connected a little monitor to my finger. She came behind me and put the laughing gas over my nose and told me to take deep, slow breaths through my nose. Before I knew it, I was in a very happy place. She had put little pads on my chest and ribs to monitor my heart during the procedure. The doctor came in and inserted the IV---which contained steroids to help with the swelling. The last thing I remember was Dr. Koos putting the plastic things to keep my mouth open and I knocked out. Next thing I know, Nancy is walking me over to the room by the side door (where the parking lot is) and my mother was sitting there waiting for my with my sweater and purse. Nancy was very detailed and explained post-op instructions which luckily were printed and included in this neat little package they give you with more ibuprofen, a syringe filled with a gel to help speed up the process, some gauze, and thy even give you a gel pack to help with swelling immediately. Today is the day after surgery and although I can see swelling, nothing really hurts, I feel like I've been well taken care of by everyone at ORA, and maybe I will continue to go to them for other services. I highly recommend them for oral surgery. They really look out for you and are very thorough with their processes. Dr. Koos even called me after 8pm and left me a lengthy voicemail with more detailed instructions! Such great service! read more

They won me over. I went back after they responded to my less then glowing previous review saying that they changed things up. I was like yeah right, whatever. But change they did. Their workflow is much improved. There's now hardly any waiting at any stage of the visit pipeline. Their office staff is friendly and responsive. If I had a qualm it'd be that scheduling a visit over the phone can be challenging and they are busy. On the other hand, I recently had an accident where I broke my tooth and they took me in right away disrupting their lunch, without an appointment and reattached my broken tooth, for FREE! Damn. Their insurance estimates are very spot on and quick which is impressive. I had bunch of stuff done by their doctors since 2010 ranging from fillings through crowns, bridges, root canals to tooth removal and bone grafting. Prices were always clearly explained before I got any work done. Their work is consistently high quality and painless. No lie, my fear of dentists is all but gone, and I went through three hours of constant drilling at their studio to get most of my bottom teeth replaced with crowns. It wasn't an enjoyable experience per se, but it was painless and they were all very professional and reassuring throughout. My crowns fit and look great and I can finally eat all my crunchies. I had some problems with my temporary crowns but they kept on re-attaching and even replacing the ones I swallowed for free. They also did a root canal which was very tricky because I had an old infection that made my mouth swell up. I felt nothing throughout the whole procedure, was spacing out to my headphones. I've been mostly working with Dr. Mark recently but Dr. Goran is equally excellent. And they also have an awesome oral surgeon that will put you under if you need to get some serious cutting work done. What else can I say. Oh yeah, I convinced my wife to give them a try. It's not a stretch to say that I highly recommend them. read more

I don't normally write Yelp reviews, but this was such a jarring experience that I decided to write one. I had a cleaning appointment, which I made 6 months ago, which they called and cancelled about 10 minutes prior to the appointment while I was on my way and promised to call back to reschedule. Annoying, but fine, shit happens. Several days later, not getting any calls back, I was visiting their office for a different reason and ask them if they're going to reschedule the appointment. The answer - "our next available appointment is in 6 months". No attempts to fix their own screw up and try to figure out a reasonable solution (they put me on the bottom of some cancellation list, where they were trying to tell me that if something opens up they can call me and I need to show up within an hour - seriously?!). And of course no guarantees that they won't cancel it again at any time within the *next* 6 months, including and up to right the very moment of the appointment and then tell me the exact same thing. This wasn't the first time I had negative experiences with their reception staff either, but this one crossed the line. That said my experience with the doctors and hygienists has generally been positive, which is how they earn the extra star, but the front line of access to them is completely awful. read more

For about 5 years, various dentist have recommended me to have my wisdom teeth removed -- I even got dumped by a dentist once over the issue. The wisdom teeth were impacted, and it was going to cause me issues in the long run; or so they said. Regardless, it seemed like now was the appropriate time. I called ORA and scheduled a consultation. The way the consultation went was much like everyone else described: slight wait, watch some HGTV, take some high-tech 3d x-ray, Dr. Koos describes the experience on surgery day, charges you your co-pay, and sends you on your way with a surgery date. Surgery day arrived and I was fairly nervous -- It was my first experience with general anesthesia. My wife and baby came to drive me home after. A little more HGTV and copay paying, and I was in the surgery room. The room is somewhere between a spa and Dexter's kill room, but it's a generally pleasing ambiance. The assistant asked me a few general questions. At this point, my nervousness was getting to an all time high. The assistant calmly says something along the lines of: "Let's get you on the laughing gas." ... A few seconds later, I'm chiller than a polar bear drinking a Coke. For the next few minutes (I lost track of time), I was staring at the clouds painted on the ceiling waiting for stuff to happen. Shortly after, Dr. Koos walked in. I told him the blood pressure monitor was really really tight a few times. He said that's normal. He explained to me that he is going to put an arm brace on me to prevent me from removing my own IV. I acknowledged him. He then said he's going to put in the IV and that I'm going to feel a big pinch. I thought to myself: "This pinch isn't so bad, people must ..." I woke up in the waiting room with a bunch of fake fish on the TV wall. I saw my wife and baby in the room talking to Dr. Koos and the assistant. Next thing I knew, I was in the passenger side of my car yelling at the shitty drivers on Lake Shore Drive. By the time my wife parked the car on our block, I was more or less mentally back to my normal self. Physically though, I was drooling blood out of my mouth and couldn't feel half my face. I asked my wife if I should be taking ibuprofen and she said: "Yeah, Dr. Koos kept saying that in the debrief, but the pharmacist said it wasn't on the prescription -- let me call the doctor's office." 20 minutes of hold music later, we find out I was supposed to have 800mg special ibuprofen, but it somehow wasn't in my departure goodie bag. No big deal, I'll just pop 4x 200mg pills I have in my medicine cabinet. I then go take a shower and holy shit there's a giant bruise on my arm where that blood pressure monitor was. Well that sucks; but it didn't hurt, and it's really not bothering me other than the appearance is kind of creepy. Recovery more or less looked like this: Day 1. Lots of bleeding, pretty impossible to eat. Ice Ice Baby. Day 2. No more bleeding, still in tons of pain, more ice, pop a Norco and good to go. Day 4. Bruise went away. Less pain. More or less can eat -- albeit slowly and annoyingly. Day 8. Back to normal, mild pain. ibuprofen once in awhile. Overall, not bad for wisdom teeth removal. read more

Hands down the only place you should go to get surgery work done! TIMELINE Birth to August 2nd 2011: wisdom teeth developed and sorta partially poked through my gums a little bit and bothered me here and there over the last few years. August 3rd 2011 a.m.: I woke up with pain and swelling on my lower right side after feeling a little tender the night before, just a little freaked out! Did a frantic online search for wisdom teeth Chicago and oral surgeon Chicago to come across ORA and Dr. Koos..was it divine intervention? I called the office and Leddie must have heard the desperation in my voice and talked to the doctor and they were able to squeeze me in for a consult that same day! I was desperate to get in because I was waiting for Lollapalooza for months now and there was no way that I wanted to miss it, but Murphy's Law was trying to get in the way. August 3rd 2011 p.m. : My office visit was awesome, Susie was able to check into my insurance information even before I arrived and Dr. Koos was really so sympathetic and caring. He put me at ease too because I was more than nervous. When I told him that I desperately did not want to miss Lollapalooza over the weekend, especially Eminem on Saturday night, he chuckled and said that he "couldn't promise anything but I will do my best to make that happen for you." He gave me some antibiotics and Vicodin and they squeezed me into the schedule on Friday again to have the surgery done. August 5th 2011 a.m.: My swelling has come down with the antibiotics and I am quite nervous and sad that I will probably be missing out on Lollapalooza. I show up for surgery with a friend and they take me back into this really cool operating room with a peaceful sky on the ceiling. Dr. Koos, in a very cool way, plays Muse from his iPod before I go under and says "in the spirit of Lolllapalooza is Muse good with you or would you like to hear Girl Talk or Coldplay?" Muse was perfect for me and with the gas - whooaaa! I woke up after what seemed like only a minute and completely de-stressed when they told me that I was done and everything went very well.. August 5th 2011 p.m.: I couldn't believe how good I felt after having 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed earlier that day, but what was driving me more to recover was going to see A Perfect Circle and Muse. Against his advice I went to Lollapalooza that night. I was a little embarrassed when he called to check in on me and I could barely hear anything because of the crowd and music when I was supposed to be at home icing! He told me that I better promise to ice all day the next day before Eminem and not to overdo it tonight. August 6th 2011 p.m.: After a day of chilling and icing and feeling pretty good I ecstatically get to go to Eminem and the weather is great and the set was amazing, and I have Dr. Koos to thank for making it all possible! This is my first negative review. i hate bashing a place of business, but this was the first time Yelpers lead me astray. Is this place upscale? Yes. Is it well-designed with cool features? Yes. Would I ever go back? Never. I was completely underwhelmed by my experience there. Although I had brought thorough x-rays taken the week before to my appointment, the doctor insisted I have x-rays taken on his spiffy new x-ray machine. Fine. Several hundred dollars later, the doctor used what I can only describe as scare tactics to try to talk me into what I now think was an unnecessary and expensive procedure. To be fair, I believe he felt it was the best route, but when I asked about alternative solutions, his famous charm dissipated like laughing gas and he became impatient and almost hostile. I have not returned. I suspect this office is great at all things wisdom teeth. But if you have other oral surgery needs, as I did, I would stay away from this place. (Oh, and my t.v. didn't work, and the receptionists - as others have noted - were cold & snotty!) ;) read more

I just had a dental implant installed by Dr. Koos at Ora Dental Studio. I have to say it was the best experience I've ever had in a dentists office. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They got me an appointment immediately. There was practically no wait time. Once the implant procedure began the nurse asked me what music I wanted to relax to, I told her Coldplay. Within a matter of moments The soothing sounds of Coldplay were coming through the rooms speakers while I was inhaling a light dose of anesthesia. I remember Dr. Koos entering the room gently putting an IV in my arm and the next thing I remember was being gently woken by my nurse saying the 45 minute procedure was complete. Easy-Breezy. If you are someone who dreads the dentist. Please do yourself a favor and see Dr. Koos and staff at the Ora Dental studio. It will inspire you to start taking better care of your teeth immediately. I will never go 2 years without a dental examine again. read more

I'm a client of many years and I've finally had enough. This place is AWFUL! Expect a sequence of mistakes (billing, coding, scheduling, dental work etc) to be made and ultimately you'll be the one paying for them out of your own pocket and with your time. Don't be surprised when the front desk staff doesn't take responsibility for their mistakes and the inconveniences caused. The excuses are tiring and inexcusable after a while. Also, keep a close watch on how they schedule and code your visits... I wouldn't be surprised if they were scamming insurance companies for a profit. If you support business's that value customer service and client loyalty, This is the wrong place for you. read more

this place really is the bee's knees. the lobby is beautifully decorated which causes you to be less anxious about seeing a dentist. the receptionist was very pleasant and there is a mini fridge stocked with bottled water and odwalla juices. like other reviewers, Dr koos called me later that night to see how i was doing and gave me his cell number to call if i had any questions or concerns. he was very patient and made me feel at ease. i'm even thinking about switching my general dentist to this office. that's how much i enjoyed coming here. have you heard anyone say that about going to the dentist?!? read more

GREAT Experience and Dr. Koos was fantastic! My former dentist rescheduled my appointment to get my wisdom teeth removed, so I was desperately looking for a new place to remove them on the day I had scheduled (since I already requested time off work and planned around this date). I found Ora Dental on Yelp and the reviews sure are right! Ora Dental fit me in the same week and even allowed me to have a consultation and wisdom teeth removed on the same day. First of all let me say that the office is extremely gorgeous and I felt like I was at a day spa rather than a dental office. They even have massage chairs and give you a remote to watch whatever you'd like as you wait in the chair for the dentist. I was very nervous as this was my first surgery and first for anesthesia. Dr. Koos put me at ease. During the consult he was very informative about the procedure, why its important to have them removed, what to expect after, and possible complications. The procedure went smoothly and I am feeling fine today. He makes the incisions so small that I didn't even need stitches and my face isn't swollen one bit. I just had them removed yesterday...so must say something I am already yelping today! Dr. Koos even called me the night of to check up on me and see if I was okay and gave me his cell to call if I had any complications! I would highly highly recommend them!!! read more

ora dental, i love you. after reading all these great reviews about dr. koos here on yelp, i thought he might just be the guy to consult in about the removal of my four wisdom teeth. since i just moved here to chicago with my boyfriend, i was kinda dazed and confused on where to go and who to see about this surgery which i've been putting off for years. i am the baby of all babies. at age 22, anything with teeth freaks me out. i am not kidding you, before this experience, i was PETRIFIED of the thought of having to be put under. we are talking bad dreams, cold sweats, mental breakdowns, sleepless nights, you name it.... i did not want these things to be out. ora dental was a eye opening experience for me. after booking my consultation appointment, i was put at ease about all these fears of mine involving being put under for my first surgery involving anesthesia. this office is no joke, VERY professional staff and dr. koos knows his teeth! my boyfriend and i both agreed that this would be the place i would go for the removal. the day of my surgery (yesterday) i was extremely nervous. i was up all night anxious and not knowing what to expect about being put under for the first time. when we arrived at the office, after filling out some paperwork, i was immediately called in to get this thing over with. this is when i really started freaking out. what was going to happen!? i looked around and all i can say is this place is very clean and sharp yet very relaxing and almost tranquil at the same time. the assistant asked me what kind of music i liked. wait what?!? :) they were going to be playing me some sort of music to calm my nerves. this was another plus in my book. i picked "muse" (the artist) and closed my eyes to try to relax. the assistant hooked me up to some heart monitor sort of thing, and she started the laughing gas. (i've never had this either) dr. koos came in, reassured me everything was going to be okay. popped the needle in my arm and after that i don't remember a thing. 25 minutes later....(only 25 minutes?!) i woke up and it's like nothing ever happened. trippy. my boyfriend surprisingly didn't try to film me like david at the dentist but i was feeling good. my mouth was numb and i was in a different world. i look back and think why was i being such a baby about this procedure? it was so simple and in my eyes the best dental experience i have experienced. and i still haven't really felt any major pain. dr. koos even gave my boyfriend and i a call later on to make sure everything was going smoothly. thought this was a nice touch to his professionalism. thank you dr. koos for making this such a great experience! i would highly recommend you and your staff to anyone looking for an amazing wisdom teeth removal experience! read more

Holy s#! t!!! It's like the W hotel and the center for green design had a love baby that sprouted into the most bad a$$ dental building i've ever seen!!!...this place could probably slap chop ghandi and he wouldn't even be mad about it.... :-l..... anyway... add Suzie (the super chill business manager who set up my apt.) and DDS. Kralj (the dentist/invisalign ninja) and you get the culmination of greatness that is ORA!!... lol.... honestly though, very professional, friendly and respectful staff and I'm more than happy to let everyone know... if you need any type of dental/orthodontic care, i wouldn't look any further...:) read more

I recently got all four of my impacted wisdom teeth out here, at ORA. The initial consultation helped put me at ease - all of the staff were very friendly and accommodating and the office is beautiful - they even take music requests in the patient rooms so you can feel more at ease. Having the 3D x-rays was really cool to see as well! Dr. Koos described the surgical procedure in simple terms and answered any questions I had. On the day of surgery, I don't remember much (which is of course a good thing). I was in and out fairly quickly without any complications. They also spend time talking with you about what to expect the next few days post-op and send you away with a "goody bag" of instructions, an icepack, and more. Dr. Koos even called me later that night to ask me how I was feeling and to answer any questions I might have. Although the procedure is no fun at all, this was a great place to do it. I'm glad I did my research and ended up getting them out here. Also, price-wise I thought it was very competitive for all you receive (like being knocked out completely). Thanks again ORA surgery! read more

4 years ago, I couldn't say greater things about Ora. I referred everyone here - my husband, my colleagues, my friends. Today, I probably owe them all an apology. In June, I came in get an Invisalign treatment. They were 1.5 hours late in seeing me. But I had brought a book, and managed to pass the time. After the appointment, they told me I'd have an update from Invisalign within 6 weeks. 6 weeks pass. No word. I called, only to be told it sometimes takes up to 8 weeks. 2 more weeks pass. Still no word. I call again. Am told someone will call me back. By September - a whole 12 weeks later - I'm getting impatient. I call. A nice receptionist tells me she can't understand my file, and tells me a specialist will call me back. Again, no word. Do you see a pattern here? It's now October, and after calling back again, I'm finally told that someone at their office was supposed to notify me to come in to the office, but forgot to. Now - because it's been so long - Invisalign has canceled the treatment. The person on the other end of the line says all of this so matter-of-factly. No apology. No empathy. No concern whatsoever that they've just wasted months of my life. I paid for this treatment in January. And as of October, still no services have been rendered. Avoid this place. Unless you enjoy throwing your money. read more

I have been a customer with ORA studio since I moved to Chicago 4 years ago, and ORA's dental services have always been great. However, over the last 6 months, I noticed that ORA had been trying to pad the bill and that ORA is unethical. For example, my company's dental plan covers 2 free teeth cleanings per year. However, ORA studio have asked me multiple times to have my teeth cleaned 3 times a year; none of the 3 cleanings would be fully covered by my insurance. After I have told ORA several times that I only want to have my teeth cleaned just twice a year, they still put me on the 3-cleaning-per-year plan and charged me additional for my 2 teeth cleanings last year. I am very fed up with this, and I am filling a claim against ORA to BBB. In addition, I will take my business to another dental shop. read more

In response to Dr. Koos's Comment: To clear up the confusion, "cosmetic dentistry" in my original post referred to "dental implants," a service which you provide, per your website. Insurance companies that do not cover the cost of implants and procedures associated with it, refer to this kind of activity as "cosmetic." Even if this term, "cosmetic dentistry," was misused by me in my review, I find it hard to believe that you had never come across people using this term when referring to dental implants and other oral/dental enhancing procedures. Dr. Koos, I am at a point in my life where I have to make a huge investment and want to explore as many options as possible before finding and committing myself to "THAT PARTICULAR" surgeon. As such, I would not limit myself to one or two doctors but rather take advantage of many offices and surgeons available throughout Chicago. I had high expectations from your office and you were at the top of my list. Therefore, I called 3 times to schedule an initial consultation with you. I wanted you to evaluate my situation and offer treatment plans that would work for me and to inform me of all the costs/benefits/risks associated with the procedure. However, being told to pay $325 upfront, each time I called for the initial consultation, was not something I was ready to do. The truth is, the doctor who will earn my business will end up making much more money than $325 consultation fee. You state going above and beyond for your patients, which is something I would have liked to experience in my own situation. read more

Updating this review after I got my wisdom teeth yanked by another surgeon. It made me realize how much smoke Dr. Koos was blowing up my ass. --- The office is way cool. We get it: wood accents everywhere, eco-friendly design awards, chairs that massage you, frosted glass doors, Mac Cinema Displays, and even an ersatz Dyson Airblade in the bathroom. It makes you wonder how Koos et. al. paid for these things. I found out today. 1) Koos is much more aggressive in adding on extra services, often with little disclosure. When I went in for a wisdom tooth consultation today, I was ushered into an iCat machine. Why did I need this, I asked? Didn't you get the x-rays from my dentist? I was brushed off with an unsatisfactory response. Big deal--insurance will cover this, right? Nope. I had to pay $86 out of pocket for the privilege of bombarding my skull with radiation. My other wisdom-tooth consultations needed nothing of the kind. BTW, Koos replies that I got a good deal. I'd like to point out that my general dentist had done the exact same 3D x-ray just a couple of months before, but Koos' technician insisted I get another one because insurance would cover for it---which it didn't, because I had one done months before. Thx for nothing. 2) Koos won't do oral surgery without general anesthesia, even if you don't want everything removed. This makes little medical sense--you don't need to be put under to have a single tooth removed--but makes a ton of financial sense--for Koos, that is, because holy smokes do they charge an arm and a leg for that stuff. Dr. Koos claims below that he will do extractions with local anesthesia but I was told by the technician afterward that Koos does not do local. BTW, I got my teeth popped out quickly and easily with only local, so perhaps Koos isn't as good as my surgeon? 3) I was told over the phone by the receptionist that yes, they accepted Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance. They neglected to tell me until the very end of my appointment that there would be over a $1,000 worth of charges that would need to be covered by my medical insurance, which is out of network. Um, thanks for wasting my time. Tell your patients straight up if their medical insurance is accepted or not. 4) Koos wanted 75 minutes of general anesthesia (to paid out of pocket and maybe my insurance will cover), when I've generally been cited 45 minutes of anesthesia by other orthos. Maybe Koos is more careful. But in the context of my experience, I'm not so sure. He does like to make his anesthesiology training sweat as much as possible. On top of that, Koos' explanation of the procedure was facile. He was proposing to yank out teeth, slice gum tissue, and cut out bone, and his discussion presumed I wanted, needed, to get all my teeth out. Yet there was no frank discussion of risks that accompany all surgeries, the complications. It was all elided with, oh, if you need Percocet or Vicodin I'll prescribe that too. I like how Koos claims in his response it would take an hour to go over every complication and risk, to which his response is to not talk about it at all! Koos also claims my supernumerary teeth would require extra time, but, surprise surprise, when I got my teeth pulled it took my surgeon 30 seconds extra tops for each one. I don't know if Koos misread the x-ray or his wallet whispered, "Hey, milk this guy." 5) At the end of my consultation, I was offered a loan to cover my payment even when I insisted I had means to pay out of pocket. How generous. To sum up my experience: 1) Had an extra 3D x-ray done that I had to pay out of pocket b/c Koos' technician didn't coordinate with my general dentist. 2) Koos would only do general anesthesia and claimed I would need extra for my supernumerary teeth because that's what his medical experience tells him and not his wallet. I was shocked, just shocked, when my teeth came out easily with local (including the supernumeraries Koos claims requires so much more work!). 3) Koos never even peeped about possible complications from surgery during my consultation, to which his response below was that it would have taken one hour to go over them. On the plus side, everyone was really nice. But I wasted an hour and a half of my time and $86 out of pocket to be told that I needed all my wisdom teeth removed, and, oh, we don't accept your medical insurance and by the way when do you want to schedule your surgery? No thanks. EDIT: Soon after my original reply went up, Koos' social media person called me and said I'd get a refund. Two years on and no refund. read more

I cannot believe that I am now sitting in front of my computer and writing a review after getting my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Koos this morning. Fantastic experience! Dr. Koos and all the staff I met at Ora are really amazing! The first time I went to Ora dental for a consultation, I was impressed by their LEED certified building and modern stylish office which made me feel comfortable and relaxed. The front ladies were quite kind, helpful and informative. I brought my own x-ray and they accepted it. Dr. Koos was very professional, knowledgeable and patient. He explained thoroughly to me the process of taking out my wisdom teeth. He then answered all my concerns and questions. I used to have an anxiety issue, but his voice was so soft and comforting that I was no longer afraid. I trust him 100% after that consultation. TODAY, THE BIG DAY! Nancy first led me to the surgical room with music playing on the speaker and sat me down. She helped me hang up my jacket and took off my glasses. Then Nancy explained to me about the anesthesia process and kept comforting me. She put laughing gas mask on my nose and asked me what music I like. I told her I like maroon 5 and she switched the music to maroon 5's songs. With Nancy talking to me, music playing on the speaker and my 100% trust in Dr. Koos most importantly , I was not nervous at all. (You can not believe that every time I have my blood test, I cry like a baby.) My vision became blurred (because of laughing gas? or maybe without my glasses on?) when I saw Dr. Koos with his two other assistants entering the room and walking to me. Dr. Koos put IV in my arm while we were talking about Adam Levine who's singing at that moment in the surgical room and 'the Voice' I've been watching. I knew they were all trying to relax me and it did work. I have small veins and it usually take 3-5 attempts to get my IV inserted. However, Dr. Koos successfully did it on the first attempt, which I couldn't appreciate more. The next thing I remember was waking up with my glasses on. Dr. Koos had removed my two lower impacted wisdom teeth. The whole process went smoothly and it was totally pain-free even for me with a extremely low tolerance of pain. In the end, they sent me to the recovery room and gave me detailed Post-Op Instructions. Dr. Koos even gave me his personal cell number and called in the evening to check on me. It is SATURDAY NIGHT. His heart is at work. Now I understand where all the previous good reviews come from. Once you met a doctor who truly cares about the patients, it's the least you can do to write a review and tell people how great he is. I'm glad I found Dr. Koos. Thank you very much for taking such good care of me today, Dr. Koos and his team at Ora. You are the best I've ever met! read more

Let me say first, I feel very compelled to write this review and I haven't even set foot in the office yet. I will update it as I go through the process. Yesterday when I woke up, I had awful pain coming from my top left wisdom tooth. I am fairly sure I will end up having all 4 removed at the same time since most do, but the top left I know is my current issue. I have been putting this off way too long. This morning I started calling all oral surgeons listed on my insurance company's website. Most all of them were incredibly rude to me, and could not get me in till January next year at the earliest. When I asked if there was a possibility of squeezing me in sooner if there was a cancellation they all said I should not count on it. Then I called ORA. The woman on the phone was so nice. I am only available weekends and evenings, even though at the moment they did not have any consultation openings that fit my demanding schedule until December, she gave me many options and took time to really discuss with me what would work best for my schedule. I am in a lot of pain, and really stressed that to her, and she told me that if something opened up that she would call me immediately and get me in. She said to expect a call by tomorrow. Even though she had been so nice, I still had low hopes that I would get in sooner because of my past experiences and got off the phone on the verge of tears at the idea of having to wait for a whole month dealing with this pain. Turns out she was not kidding when she said she said she would work to get me in asap. I got a call only one hour later saying she could work me in at 2:15 TOMORROW. All I can say is wow. I could not have felt more relived. After that I called my mom who pointed out a lot of questions I should have asked about the financial side, so I called back and she was so friendly and happy to explain things to me. So many places now don't seem to empathize with pain or really care about your personal situation. They should take some advise from ORA. I anxiously await my appointment tomorrow, and after reading all of these amazing reviews, I feel very sure that Dr. Koos will not disappoint. :) read more

I've had the following done here: Wisdom Teeth Extraction Dental Implant Visit #1 Consultation: Walking into Ora, I was blown away by how modern, clean, spa-like it felt. When you go to the back, each patient is brought through the dimly lit but tranquil hallway into their private room. The level and quality of service is unlike any dental office I've been too. For the consult, I met with Dr. Koos who explained the process of my two treatments, which would be done together, and received a quote. I asked a friend that's a dentist to take a look at my estimate which he thought was comparable/reasonable to what he normally bills. Visit #2 Surgery: This was my first time under general anesthesia and I've never been good at dealing with pain, blood, etc., so to say I was extremely nervous is an understatement. Prior to visiting Ora, I kept postponing the removal of my three impacted wisdom teeth for over a year. I had one pulled out by another dental office which mortified me. But to my complete and utter surprise, the surgery here was a walk in the park! After the laughing gas came on, it was lights out and a few moments later I came to and the procedures were done. The doctor explained what to expect post-surgery and even followed-up with a personal phone call after. While everyone's recovery is different, for me the bleeding subsided that evening and I didn't experience pain and discomfort until two days after my surgery, mostly because of the implant. I was pretty cautious with the extraction/implant sites and ate normally after two weeks. Visit #3 Follow-up: I waited a few months until the implant fully healed and went to Dr. Kralj. We did impressions for my crown and picked out a shade for it. Visit #4 The End: After a quick three weeks, my crown was made and ready! I was concerned with how my bite would feel but it was virtually unnoticeable. The fitting was relatively easy, the doctor 'screwed' in some of the pieces and sealed it with implant cement. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with the entire process and my results. My only regret is not knowing of this place sooner so I could have done my Invisalign here! read more

So my wife decided to switch dentists because she was not too happy. She scheduled an appointment for clean-up for me as well (at the South loop location) That went really well except that they found 4 small cavities using a laser (they have the very latest and greatest equipment in there). I came back and had 3 filled on one side. Later on that same week, I came back again to have 4 wisdom teeth and one extra tooth removed. Well let me tell you that given the feedback I had received from friends and family, I was a little bit anxious...my god! I sat, I sniffed some laughing gas, got an IV in, woke up like a charm 45 minutes later (less than 10 minutes per tooth!!). Minimal bleeding and swelling. I'm going back in 2 weeks to get one last cavity taken care of. Both Dr. Kralj and Dr. Koos are very very good. Did I mention you can watch tv while the work gets done ? on a massaging chair ? in a super slick office ? (check the pictures on their website: http://www.oradentalstudio.com) read more

A co-worker of mine put it best, in regards to oral surgery: no matter how far we progress as a society, with our technology, dentistry is still so primal, so caveman. Breaking bones and cracking teeth. It's the only thing that hasn't evolved. Now, while I was out for the cavemen practices, the rest of the experience was wonderful. You walk into Ora and it feels like a spa. My husband and i just bought a new house and I was actually getting tiling ideas from the place. The consultation with Dr. Koos put me at ease, and the day of surgery, he and his staff quickly calmed me down. SItting in the OR (which had great natural-type lighting overhead, covered with a photo of trees so you felt like you were looking up at a sky light), a nurse came in to talk to me and asked me what music I liked. They had Tom Petty on the iPod. Lots of points. Dr. Koos came in and joked with me a bit, explained what he was doing and then I woke up again. I don't remember falling asleep. We were talking and then I was awake. The extraction itself only took about 25 minutes. They led me to a nice recovery room where I met my husband, and they told him about after-care as I was still sort of loopy. The first few hours were a bit painful, but nothing like what I'd expected. They even have a back door to loopy people to exit, so you don't have a whole waiting room watching you drool blood. Today is the only the day after, and the meds are taking the edge off, and I have really minimal swelling. Dr. Koos will make a pretty awful experience stress-free. He was wonderful. 3/25 EDIT: I ended up developing an infection three days after surgery and was in such extreme pain. I also had a reaction to the Vicodin. My husband called Dr Koos and he got me that day to clean out the area and help out. After that, we heard from him each day to make sure I was on the mend. Awesome, awesome. read more

After reading all the reviews, I was looking forward to schedule an appointment. Called today at 8am Saturday morning 20th December. Got through to the Dentistry section only to be immediately placed on hold - for well over 10mins (finally hanged up). Called again at 9.45am same experience (hanged up after 2mins). Then called the Oral surgery side, I will need surgery done but wanted to book the Dentist appointment first. Mentioned the experience with the dentistry section, obviously the first thing on my mind. Boy, talk about waking up on the wrong side of the bed. The receptionist at the Oral surgery section was so rude, smh. Not only did she not let me speak, but preceded to hanged up on me. I just started laughing - talk about the Irony of it all. Young lady, you are in the people business, our business pays your check. If you don't like your job that much, please get something that you enjoy doing. Life is too short. The true test of a business is how the frontend people behave under pressure. Having about 3 people in the waiting area is normal in the life of a receptionist or office manager. You never know the person or the connections they have at the other side of the phone. Unless of course, you are not looking to grow. Sorry Dr Koos I was looking forward to giving you my business. After reading all the reviews here but I'm sure am not the only one. read more

My husband and I have been patients of Dr Kralj since 2008. For years we've loved this dentist and his hygienist Dana. Dana moved away about a year ago and we were reassigned to Amanda and Ashley. Our first appointments with them in December went fine. Six months later, this Thursday, we were running late for our 5pm appointments due to crazy traffic (me coming from our NW side home and my husband near Union Station). Usually that time of day the dental office is running behind anyway and we have to sit for 15-30 minutes, so we thought it wouldn't be a big deal. We arrived 15 minutes late and walked into an office in chaos. There were unhappy customers arguing with the one receptionist and the other receptionist said she only works with oral surgery clients. Then the first receptionist called my husband's cell phone as he's standing by the desk and he waved at her to tell her he was there. She said "that was me" and then went back to dealing with the other patients. As we stood looking at this madness, the oral surgery receptionist called someone from the back. That lady said they could not see us that day because one of the hygienist had gone home and the other didn't have time to fit us in. We asked why had the hygienist gone home without checking that we were in the lobby? We were very angry because we made these appointments six months out, we're longterm patients, and I just drove an hour in terrible traffic to find out they blew us off. The lady asked if she could reschedule us and we declined, explaining that this treatment of patients is simply not acceptable. All the staff that day seemed confused or unwilling to give clear explanations or apologies. It was a sickening experience. As a result we'll be finding a new dentist. I'm not happy about it, especially because I just transferred my Invisalign files to Dr. Kralj. Goodbye Ora Dental Studios, we had a good 7 years. read more

Best experience ever. I went in for my consultation and right off the back DR. Koos made me feel very comfortable. He explained the full procedure how he would perform it and what I should expect. The office setting is beautiful, modern and clean. The staff is also very helpful. I was a bit skeptical ok getting my wisdom teeth pulled in the beginning. I had an extra wisdom tooth and thought that would be problematic. Dr Koos reassured me that it wouldn't and that he has taken out a max of 12 at once. I went in first thing on a Saturday for the appointment, staff had notified me two days before that I couldn't eat after 12am. So once I arrived I was ready. Dr Koos greeted me and asked was I ready to take a nap as I followed staff into the operation room. The whole time it was all about me they asked what music I wanted to here then asked how I was doing as each steep was explained, reviewed the preformed. By the end of the second song Dr Koos prepared me for my nap and 10 seconds later I was KO. I don't fully recall waking up but vividly remember everything else leading up to the explanation of how to take the medication prescribed that was given to my boyfriend and also being helped to the car. Which I was able to walk to I really forgot the name of the guy that helped out I want to say Keith, with him Dr Koos and Nancy who all I could remember just said hi I loved it. Today is day two a little swelling nothing major and minimal pain. I have never been so happy to go to a dentist ever. Then last night I got a personal call from Dr Koos (hints the dog barking in the back) checking on me. I would highly recommend Ora Surgery to any one anytime. Thanks everyone involved for making this quick and easy. read more

Ora - South Loop - Best experience at a dentist ever - Cosmetic Dentists Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Was referred here by my gf that frequents the practice in the west loop and am happy this is my first, and hopefully last, dentist office I will visit. It is a great practice a great dentist and hygienists on staff. Have already been there twice, once for a cleaning (w/Ashley) and just had a filling done with Dr. Kraji. I have never had to wait more then 5 minutes as, oddly enough, this practice likes to keep appointment times unlike most other healthcare practices I've visited (here and in GA). Ashley was extremely thorough on her cleaning and very courteous of any discomfort, but was an excellent experience! Dr. Kraji was also thorough, but what I loved most was that he explains EVERYTHING (the process, choices of shot/no shot, when sensitivity can be expected) and there are no "surprises." I HIGHLY recommend this practice, so much that I've written a review when I seldom do so. It also doesn't hurt that I could talk shop (about finance) with Dr. Kraji while also watching any channel on the DISH powered LCD tv in front of you the whole time. Look forward to seeing other good reviews from others! read more

I gotta say, I love this dentist! Got my wisdom teeth pulled and it went very smoothly. Dr. Koos is a very nice and calming human being. Even called that evening to check if I was okay! No problems at all with my wisdom extraction. Also got a teeth cleaning, and the hygienist was great. I liked that she didn't give me the usual lecture and guilt trip about how much I do or do not floss my teeth. There was a TV above me so I got to watch HGTV while she did the cleaning. She also was pretty gentle, I didn't feel like she was scraping my gums off like some hygienists. Dr. Kralj was also very nice. All of the staff also seemed nice and friendly as well. And I love how beautiful and high tech everything is in the office without the price being higher compared to other dentists! I feel like I'm getting top of the line, quality treatment, but without the Michigan avenue price. And did I mention that the dentist chair had a built in BACK MASSAGER!?! AND, they have free parking right next to the building!!! Definitely go here if you need to see a dentist for whatever reason! read more
