This practice has gone downhill tremendously within the last year. I was a patient of Dr. Hurd's…read morefor 8 years and occasionally would see Dr. Patel for things as well. A few months ago I went to urgent care for this chronic neck pain I was having. After doing some x-rays, the urgent care doctor said I need to go to physical therapy and have my PCP send in the referral. 4-5 days later, Dr. Hurd finally sent in my referral. After a month of physical therapy, my physical therapist requested additional visits since the insurance only gave me 7. The insurance approved more visits and just needed a signature from Dr. Hurd so I can continue with my physical therapy. It literally took her 5 days for just a signature. I also had to cancel my physical therapy appointment that week because we (me and the physical therapist) were all waiting on Dr. Hurd to take 5 seconds to sign a form. Last month I needed to pick up a lab order from Dr. Patel for not just annual bloodwork but also hormonal as well. I had already been communicating with Dr. Patel through the portal about it and she told me she would put the order though. I get to the office the day before my appointment to pick up the lab order and the front desk girls (who also rude and dismissive. The other girls who used to work there were so nice and friendly) tell me that Dr. Patel didn't send it. Just ONE lab, not the whole thing. I told them I can't reschedule my lab appointment because of it being hormonal bloodwork (and fasted too) and Dr. Patel said that it has to be done on a certain day of my cycle. And also, my naturopathic doctor (who Dr. Patel knew I saw for my condition too) was going to be reviewing the results with me in a few weeks and she has no openings for 3 months! Dr. Patel wasn't in the office that day but Dr. Hurd was. I asked the girls at the front desk if she could write up my labs and I can pick them up before the end of the day before they close. They just gave me attitude and told me to go write Dr. Hurd on the portal and there's no guarantee that she would get to my message today. Seeing how it already took 5 days for Dr. Patel to just sign a form, I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere with her or her unhelpful staff. I went to Scripps urgent care just as a last resort to see if maybe they could somehow do my bloodwork and they said they don't do that kind of bloodwork there but they told me that my doctor is negligent and I should fire her. Well, I did exactly that. I went on my insurance's website and decided to join the Scripps network and found a new PCP and was able to get in the very next morning with her NP and I was able to get the bloodwork I needed (which was super convenient because the lab was just one floor up from the PCP's office. No more dealing with LabCorp and their long wait times). A month later Dr. Hurd's office calls me about collecting money for their medical records release fee. I told them that they never told me there was a fee and that also Scripps requested the records a month ago! This office as a whole just doesn't give two $#!+ about their job or the patients and it really shows. Run, don't walk away from this practice! I got treated so much better by EVERYONE over at Scripps.

He routinely failed to have my Rx's filled unless I followed up with him multiple times - I've never had this issue with a doctor. On one occasion, his failure to timely call-in my Rx resulted in my having to wait 45 days to have it refilled due to a nationwide shortage (the pharmacy confirmed that had he called it in on-time, I would have had no issue). The last straw occurred most recently, in which it took 7 days after an appointment for him to call in the Rx for a medicine (for which lack of access could be life-threatening), despite following up with his office 3 times and them failing to call me back after saying they would. It wasn't until I stopped by in person that he finally filled the Rx. This office was an absolute nightmare.

It feels unnecessary to expose patients who are coming in for regular appointments to illnesses they might otherwise avoid. I really hope the clinic considers a better system to separate urgent care patients from those coming in for routine primary care visits.

I recently became ill and visited Scripps Urgent Care on Jefferson in Oceanside, where I was…read moretreated by Dr. Michelle Voigt, the facility's Medical Director. She and her team were absolutely great. I cannot say enough good things about my experience, from the moment I checked in until the moment I checked out. I give them five stars across the board. I was checked in quickly, and in less than ten minutes, the medical team was already caring for me. About a week before becoming sick, I had been exposed to a serious biological health hazard with potentially fatal consequences. Naturally, I was extremely concerned, and my wife was terrified. Dr. Voigt listened carefully, ordered the appropriate tests, and quickly determined my illness was unrelated to that exposure. She assured me I would make a full recovery within a few days. Her reassurance meant more than I can express. Dr. Voigt's calm, compassionate, and confident manner immediately put me at ease, so I was able to call my wife and let her know that I would be okay. She treated me with genuine kindness, respect, and professionalism throughout my visit. I left feeling relieved, encouraged, and truly cared for. I also want to thank the entire staff at Scripps Urgent Care. Everyone I encountered was warm, friendly, compassionate, and professional. From the moment I arrived until I left, every interaction reflected genuine concern and outstanding patient care. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Voigt and the entire team. Thank you for providing exceptional care during a very stressful time. 1-star is way too much for this terrible place…read more Called in on a Thursday night at about 7:45pm since they were the only Urgent "Care" facility that was open last 7pm. They told me they closed at 9pm, no mention "be here by 8:30pm". I should have known that this place is of questionable quality because I asked the receptionist (I think her name was Kenya but not 100% sure) if they take a certain insurance company; she started to tell me "if it's MediCal, no". I told her SEVERAL times that MediCal has nothing to do with the McHardy insurance as this was an insurance company provided to a full time employee of another local hospital. She finally stopped mentioning MediCal. Arrived at 8:27pm, parked the car at 8:29pm, walked in at 8:30pm, the receptionist (again, I think her name was Kenya), started talking to my wife (who had a very painful ear infection) at 8:32 where she told us "we aren't taking any patients after 8:30pm, you are welcome to stop by tomorrow at 9am"!!! I begged her to reconsider since there is no mention anywhere about this policy plus it was...8:32! You should have seen the cold face, the lack of caring, the lack of compassion for our situation, treated you like a piece of meat, not like a human being in need.... What a terrible operation. See attached pics of the lack of mentioning anywhere if this policy plus the cold-hearted answer of the business owner to another reviewer who encountered the same situation as we did, along with many others who found out THE HARD WAY, how cold hearted this place is. DO NOT BOTHER GOING TO THIS PLACE; I can only imagine the level of care they provide when they treat you so coldly, so inhumanely. I left a message for the "manager" Arianna Myers; I will refrain from editing this and/or further commenting on this review until I hear back from her and not receiving a typical canned response from "Steve the owner".... Meanwhile, we had to leave with still a very painful ear infection because "we were not talked to by the receptionist until 2 minutes past their, supposedly, deadline"...

I rarely write negative reviews, but after repeated experiences with Dr. John Clancy, I feel…read moreobligated to share what happened, particularly because elderly patients and patients who are not fluent in English deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. My 74-year-old mother recently moved from Canada to San Diego, and we have been rebuilding her medical care here from scratch. English is not her first language, and I routinely accompany her to appointments to make sure she understands her medical care and can communicate her concerns properly. We have seen Dr. Clancy multiple times, so this review is not based on one unpleasant encounter. Unfortunately, we have repeatedly experienced the same dismissive and unwelcoming behavior. Our appointments have felt extremely rushed, often lasting only approximately 5-10 minutes. When we ask questions, we have experienced sighing, visible frustration, eye-rolling, and responses that made both my mother and me feel as though we were an inconvenience rather than patients seeking medical care. Today's appointment crossed a line for me. My mother was trying her best to explain an issue concerning her daily blood-pressure medication. During the conversation, Dr. Clancy rolled his eyes, removed his glasses, looked directly at me and, referring to my mother's English, said words to the effect of: "When she speaks English, it makes me frustrated and I don't understand." I found this extraordinarily disrespectful and humiliating. A 74-year-old woman struggling to communicate in her second language should never be made to feel embarrassed for trying to explain a medical concern to her physician. There are professional and compassionate ways to handle a language barrier. Showing visible irritation toward an elderly patient is not one of them. What makes this more concerning is that today's experience was not isolated. We have left previous appointments feeling rushed, uncomfortable and unwelcome as well. Today simply reached the point where I could no longer remain silent. We will be finding my mother another primary-care physician. I also intend to formally report our experience through the appropriate channels because I believe elderly patients, immigrants, and people with limited English proficiency should be able to seek medical care without being made to feel ashamed or burdensome. I strongly encourage families, especially those caring for an elderly parent who may need additional patience or help communicating to consider our experience when deciding whether this practice is the right fit for them. Respect and compassion should be the absolute minimum a patient receives in a doctor's office.
