Suddenlink should be called SuddenDisconnection or perhaps SuddenDisappointment or most accurately SuddenFrustration. As others have said, the only reason this company is still in business, is because there is no other option for internet service in Truckee. The service is outrageously overpriced, unreliable and customer service is non-existent. We're currently suffering through a 24 hour spell, during which our service has been out more than a dozen times. Calling 'customer service' means you get to listen to a prerecorded message about service outages resulting from a snowstorm which ended more than 2 weeks ago. We've endured years of similar experiences as long-suffering customers. Given SuddenFrustration has a monopoly on service, there's no point complaining, or writing this review. It is at least, slightly cathartic. We can't wait for Starlink to become available in Truckee! For $50 a month, we should get faster, symmetric bandwidth, vs $145 a month for SuddenAggravation. Let's hope some competition spurs SuddenFailure into providing a reliable, reasonably-priced service - or they will follow other failed businesses into the garbage dump of corporate history. read more

If you can manage to get internet, it's fine, the issue is their customer service. We are a government entity, we went from Coax to Fiber and with that change I was forced to change my static IP address. I did this change on a Friday evening so as to not disrupt our services at work. I found out I had to have our DNS updated by Optimum with this change, and of course their DNS department isn't open on weekends. It is now the Tuesday after that Friday, and the change still hasn't been made and we cannot email outside the department because of their horrid business practices. A DNS change takes all of 5 minutes, but apparently the ONE SINGLE GUY who does it is out. I cannot SEND EMAIL, because they haven't been able to do 5 mins over work over a 3 day period. read more

Honestly if I could give this company a negative rating I would. Unfortunately it's one of the only internet providers where I live. Crappy connection all the time, constant random outages, even if you're paying for the gig speed it slows down to a crawl once you get past 10:00 or 11:00 at night. Trying to get in touch with a representative on the phone is a rage-inducing process. You have to click who knows how many buttons for about 10 minutes listening to that stupid automated recording before you finally get to the customer service line which takes another 10 minutes before someone picks up. Absolute worst internet company in the world. Just raised my bill for no apparent reason, was told they would credit me back what they owed from raising the bill and it never happened. Also realized when looking at the raising of my bill that for the last TWO YEARS I have been signed up for auto pay and they have still charged me the $5 that should be taken off each month for signing up for that service - even though it states online you get $5 off/month for autopay. Have spoken to 5 different people Destiny, Jacqueline and Heba to name a few and none were helpful. I was told that $5 off offer was only a courtesy and even though they never honored it, it was only a courtesy so they refuse to credit us what is owed to us. Heba Aamer worker ID RA4 also hung up the phone on me just now. We are seeking to escalate this as it's not just a "courtesy", it's against the law for false advertisement per the FTC Act, and according to the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Law (Title 2, Chapter 17, Subchapter A), they are liable up to $10,000 per violation. We encourage others who have been ripped off by this company by false advertisement to follow suit. We moved into our house over 2 months ago and had been going back and forward with Optimum. I had a technician come out the first month and he said he couldn't doing anything until they hook up the power box in our front yard. So, I called and told them we have 2 large orange wires coming out our yard and there's suppose to be a power box there. I was told the are working on putting our address in the system. Weeks go by, I call again and now I'm told they are working on getting a power source available. More weeks go by and I call and the guy told me everything ready to go and he will send a technician out. Now, mind you no one came out to our yard at all to address the orange wires but I said OK go ahead and send a technician. Had to wait another week for him to get to us just to be told he couldn't do anything because the power box was never hooked up. I been dealing with this since 02/04 and it's now April. I asked for the technician supervisor and the supervisor Chris tells me that the maintenance team has not finish construction. Well, it been over 60 days and no one's lifted a finger! I'm beyond frustrated because I have no other choice but to wait on them because we are in their jurisdiction. Chris confirm that even if I decide to go with another internet company they are the only ones who can put up the power box. Connected service in 2018 with a promise that price wouldn't go up. Price went up in 2019. I called to complain and fee's went down by $15. 6 months later fees went up higher than the first time. I called again and fee's went down by about $20, which was still higher than original, but close enough. 3 months later fee's were up to a new high. Long story short, this company sucks. They are always raising fees, the wait times to address this are very long, service representatives read scripts and are difficult to understand, and they never do what they say they are going to do. Worst customer service ever. The technician for the install went to my backdoor, peeped into the glass door, put a sticker saying missed me and left. MY BACK DOOR! LOOKED THRU MY GLASS DOOR! When I called about this botched install, I was told the tech would be back within an hour. I called back and was told the tech would call in 20 mins. Got a bill for 187. 00. Their service never worked from installation date. I work remotely and own a business. My business phone was out for 13 days after a 99.00 install. I could not stay connected to service either of my clients for 14 days. So basically I went 14 days no setvice. Check your bills carefully because I have had fraudulent charges added to my bill in the past. For example, I just had a service tech come to the house to install ethernet outlets in four rooms. The tech shows up after failing to show up for the first appointment and tells me he can not install the outlets because I don't have the right switch. No ethernet outlets were installed. I review my bill and I was charged for the installation. I wasted half a day waiting on the day the tech failed to show up and then two hours on the phone disputing the charges. Suddenlink customer service is horrible. You receive very inconsistent information from the reps and some of them don't know what they are doing. Recently some of our channels and the DVR were not working. Spent an hour on the phone with a rep who could not figure out what to do so she scheduled a tech appointment which means more wasted time! The tech shows up and says this should have been handled by the office. He calls the office and they flip some switches and the problem was resolved easily by the rep on the phone. Another half day wasted! SUDDENLINK HAS RAISED PRICES TWO TIMES THIS YEAR! Not happy with your service or the prices? Call Suddenlink and threaten to cancel services. They have a whole department called "retention" and they sometimes will reduce prices if you raise enough hell. Most of you know Suddenlink has a monopoly for cable service in this area. No competition. The problems they have all stem from this fact. If you don't have any competitors then you are less motivated to spend the time and money necessary to improve your business. I would run for the hills before I would sign up services with this company. Their service has been nothing, but absolutely awful over the last three years of having service with this company we've had billing issues been double billed triple billed for the same billing month. We've had services in and out, not working properly not getting the speeds that we were promised or paid for. Every time you call customer service, you're told that you cannot be transferred to somebody else you're told that you cannot speak to supervisors or retention centers. They refuse to cancel services when you request them to be canceled because they're not rendering the services that you're paying for nor are they rectifying issues that you're having with your bills or services. When you finally do get past the retention center to cancel your services, they were refused to cancel your services and then tell you you have to pay for an additional billing cycle after services have been canceled and equipment been turned in. They say that it's in their terms and conditions although when you look at the terms and conditions nowhere in the terms and conditions, does it state that and when you ask for them to give you clarification of where you can find that information They refused to give it to you. Needless to say three weeks later, trying to cancel services and turning in my equipment, many many phone calls and supervisors, and retention centers, still can't get my services canceled and getting billed for services that are not being rendered. They only have their promotional rates for new customers. I even signed up for their "1 Gbps for life deal" which is supposed to lock in the rate of $88.49 for life. 3 months later the price went up. I signed up for Internet at the end of August. Paid $25.00 down to be sure it works. Then I get a bill, and before it's due, I receive another bill, different amounts. And I've had to call, I can't tell you how many times, they just can't seem to get my bill correct. I make a payment and receive a confirmation # then the person I have spoken to say your next payment of $ 40.22 will be due September the 12th. I then get a message on the 10th, my payment didn't go through. I'm lucky that I only use a debit card for bills such as Optimum, and I only put the money in the account when I need to. Thank God. Because 30 minutes after paying and receiving a confirmation # I receive another message saying it didn't go through. And you can't get anyone to speak to. They want to text. And if your Lucky enough to speak to someone, like I did, from the Philippines, she wanted my bank card # and routing number also. I had said at first I wanted to pay monthly send me a bill, ok. Well I keep getting messages that I'm past due. So I finally got a hold of another person,he helped me. I paid my bill for the month. Next payment is due on the 12th. On the 10th I'm pass due. I am very angry right now. Earlier today I called and set up a disconnect order for the end of my billing cycle, Nov 6. I was also on another phone calling to get assistance with the set up of my new router/modem. I was on hold for OVER an hour. When they finally answered they said my service was disconnected TODAY and now they cant help us. I have a midterm exam due tonight... I have no transportation to take me where I can use wifi.
