I recently discontinued service after 10 years with Optimum. On the day I called to do so, they offered me at least 5 different options. I refused all of them. I paid the outstanding balance and returned the equipment the following day. Exactly one week later, Optimum auto paid the same outstanding balance. I called to let them know I did not approve the auto pay balance; they did not return my unapproved auto pay balance. I have been waiting for them to get back to me so we can resolve this issue and one week later have not heard from them. The 'Auto pay" was done without my permission ( I have never paid them using "Auto pay" and in my opinion, they stole $168 from my checking account. I would not recommend them to anyone ever.... If I could give less than zero stars I would! I "try" to work from home. Optimum makes it nearly impossible. Today we have had 7 outages in my area & as soon as it comes up it goes out again. Tried for over two hours to cancel my internet. I've paid my bill but you can't cancel until the end of your billing cycle so they can keep your money for no services. totally ridiculous. One star because zero isn't an option. It took me one and a half hours to cancel. Instead of processing my request the call service rep tried to upsell me, give me three months free (and said I could cancel at any time-so I said, now, I would like to cancel now) and to waste time with other stalling tactics. I FINALLY got it canceled-only to find out that they left HBO, which was a free add-on, operating so I have to do this all over again. I never leave bad reviews. I try to keep my negative reviews to myself, but today was especially frustrating. Optimum's basic wifi is great when you have a small house and not many devices, but when attempting to contact customer service, that is the issue. When transferring services, it would take an hour, hour and a half just to have my simple request fulfilled. They changed my account number and when trying to create an account with the new acct number or log in with the new acct number, the website could not find my acct, so I was unable to pay my bills. Then when trying a different way, my bill was $131, when I pay about $40/month and i have only had my "new account" for 3 weeks. I have been with Optimum since 2024 and it had always been an issue contacting support. Today I called two different customer service numbers, ABOUT THE ACCOUNT SERVICES and was hung up on. The third one, was an automated voice that did not transfer me to a representative and asked if I wanted my system to reboot. I said "NO" multiple times and it still rebooted my system. Now I have no internet. Anyway I call another service and they were so helpful. Then I call Optimum AGAIN, to cancel services, an hour AGAIN. And most of of their talking is promoting and deals and compensation and trying to offer anything to get me to stay. I told both representatives COUNTLESS times that there was nothing they could do to keep my business. Again, trying to convince me to stay. After an hour of going back and forth of me telling them "I am done" and "I am frustrated and no longer want their service" and them responding with more compensation and discounts, they finally fulfilled my cancellation. Multiple times, calling customer service for simple requests and it takes them an hour and a half to do. JUST PICK ANOTHER INTERNET PROVIDER. DO NOT GIVE OPTIMUM YOUR TIME AND MONEY. read more

I was on hold for over an hour when trying to stop my intern service. First person I talked to wanted to know who my internet service was going to be and what my monthly bill was going to be. she put me on hold, after about 30 mins she said it was stopped but would have to transfer me to the disconnected department. Was put back on hold, when I finally talked to some I was asked the same questions. After about an hour my services were stopped. Horrible company. They will raise your rates without telling you, hoping you don't notice. Cancelling your service is practically impossible. You can't do it online. You have to call. When you try to cancel, they will offer to lower their rates if you stay with them. (Even after I repeatedly told them that the reason I was leaving was because I was moving somewhere that they did not offer coverage) Even after I cancelled, I was getting 2+ phone calls every day asking me to come back. I drove clear across town to the Hartford location, only to see a sign in front of it that it closed in March - 9 MONTHS AGO!!! Then I drove clear across town again to the location on West Loop 289 it directed me to. Had to use GPS to find it, only to learn there is no driveway to get into it, so had to drive down another block and come in the back way, all the while remembering what it was next to so I could find it. Man, is this place tiny. And understaffed. Waited in line 20 minutes just to exchange a bad remote for a good one. Haha, it's funny how many 1 star reviews they get. for good reason. I never write reviews for anything, but trust me these guys will get my reviews ; ) The reason for the 1 star is I got scammed. A business that can legally scam you. I get on the phone to try to get cheaper internet, guy upsells me because they have a "promotion". You can pay 35 a month for internet and $1 a month for mobile, oh, buy you have to switch from your current mobile service. Oh, you've already paid in advance for your current mobile service, ok, well I'll credit you with 3 months free then. Oh, but wait, what's that? I paid $110 instead of 0? Wow, I'm surprised! I mean, if you're going to rip me off at least do it right. Charge me 35 for internet and 1 for phone like you said. I don't know about you, but $36 is a little different from $110, that doesn't even take into account the fact that my guy told me I'd be paying $0 for the first few months, $0 is a little different from $110 in my mind. Beyond disappointed in this service. Our internet frequently goes out (this is the case with several houses in our neighborhood), and when we are able to get through to customer service, it's usually blamed on our equipment. Our modem is fairly new. We switched to Suddenlink because we had issues with ATT, and previously had an amazing experience with Suddenlink. This is just ridiculous. It's difficult to get ahold of anyone through the phone line. When you do get ahold of them, it's never their fault. Yesterday, my husband called about an internet outage that was preventing him from working at home, and they said they would come by the next day between 11a-2p. So I stayed home waiting for them to come- never did. I get onto the app to check the status of our appointment, and the date has been changed to tomorrow for the same time frame. This hasn't been a recent issue, but a long standing one. We have been with this provider at our current address for coming up on a year and a half. This is a pattern, sadly. BEWARE OF OPTIMUM!!!!!! I've had cable since 2004 through Suddenlink and now Optimum. Cuatomer service is nonexistent. Since they've become Optimum, my cable was always going out and the boxes won't reset. I finally "cut the cable" and went with HULU Live. Although I am stuck with their internet and it is just as bad. I was paying $130 a month for cable, not including equipment and fees. Literally been a customer for 24hrs and have been unhappy since I called to start an account. There is already service at my address, that I want to cancel and start a new account (that account holder no longer lives here). They tell me I can't cancel and start service on the same day, so I have a 24hr outage between. Then they want to charge me for installation. Maybe I was spoiled by ATT, but I never had to pay for any service calls before. THEN I go over the bill with them line by line to ensure what I'm paying for, and I have another $7/mo service fee "just in case" I call a technician. Again, ATT never had that. AND holy heck, I spent 15 minutes telling "Malcom" I didn't want a cell phone, dude would not shutup about their amazing service I've never heard of. Optimum has terrible customer service. They failed to input my email address for paperless billing and an online account so I am now am unable to access my bill. All they say is "we need your PIN" which I was supposed to set in through an EMAIL that i never received!! They actually told me they had a "dummy" email address on my account because they did not get mine, which I gave them when I set up the account, and they can't change it without a PIN number! I DON'T HAVE A PIN NUMBER BECAUSE YOU PUT IN THE WRONG EMAIL ADDRESS!! Ughh. Over an hour on the phone and then told a supervisor would call me in 2-4 hours. Going on 15 hours now. Pathetic. Been a loyal customer for 3+ years. Out of nowhere, they doubled my cable, phone, and internet. Called and asked for an explanation, but they stated it was my new rate and it could not be changed. So I called back, after I had setup service with their competitor, and canceled my service. They offered me discounts to stay. Told them I allowed them to make it right, but they had refused. The following month, I received another bill stating I owed another $60. I didn't see the point in arguing the issue any further and just paid it. Today, month 2 after I canceled, I received a past due notice for ANOTHER $52.11. Tried to call and dispute the bill, but could not talk to a human until I paid the past due. While the month to month creeping increases and never ending list of service fees the real financial pitfall they have earned their reputation of back-shooting customers who cancel. Or as they will say "fail to cancel appropriately". You can call and say you no longer want their services. Then drive to the location they tell you to return their equipment. Have their representative tell you its all taken care of. But that will not stop them from billing you. And they dont say anything ( like they shouldn't be right?) until a couple of months and they CALL me wanting to know where their payment is? What payment? I canceled. And they say "no. you failed to cancel. Our contract demands all cancelations be submitted in writing." And legally. They are free to exercise a bizarre act of legal extortion. Why? I don't know. I was a SuddenLink customer. Optimum bought SuddenLink and apparently the sale magically transfers legal rights and obligations under modern ESG think. so add on you are retired, living on a fixed income and now I drop the service I replaced (excuse me thought I replaced) Optimum. And this month I learned they continue to bill me for a service I cannot even connect to. Why? They have their cable box per their instructions to my cancellation request. Turned in my equipment in August 2022 and made them give me a receipt. They told me they don't prorate and had to pay off the remainder of the bill. Paid it off and still getting billed. Went to the office. They said I had to call Retention. They can't issue credit. Been transferred to different departments and they say they can't help me. They do show I turned in my box in August. I would give this zero stars if possible. If you call and need help you're answered by a automated system. The only way you'll be able to speak to a person is if you go into the office. I had a problem with my internet a few weeks back and I tried contacting support. Could not get connected to a real person. Try after try I just kept talking to robots or automated systems. Went into the office and was met by a lady that was indifferent and truly did not give an f about what was happening. I decided to cancel my Internet on the spot and I asked her how I can get out of my contract in which she replied that all I needed to do was bring back my equipment. I brought back my equipment and went straight to AT&T and they were AWESOME. I get a letter in the mail saying that I still need to pay a bill for Internet that I never used be that I didn't even have the router installed in my house anymore. If you are thinking of getting internet for your home or especially for your business STAY FAR FAR AWAY FROM SPECTRUM/OPTIMUM. They do not care about your business and treat you like you are only a paycheck for them. Absolute worst customer service. Late June, the wonderful city sewage department cut and demolished our underground internet cable while repairing a neighbor's line. 7/3, a Suddenlink rep came out and fixed the problem. The rep replaced a line of cable, which ran across the alley until another crew would bury the following week. Fast forward to 10/7, only 3 months later, several calls, in-person visits to the local office and currently 2 days of no internet service in our home during these days of Covid virtual needs, the cable remains atop the Earth, possibly damaged from weeks of garbage and utility trucks driving across it. With every call, Suddenlink said they had scheduled the line to be buried. Never did it happen. Now, as I feared, we our without internet service until a technician is available. THEN, the technician will work to resolve issue, but NOT BURY THE CABLE. That would be another service day. Look, I understand this is 2020, the year of Covid, when every day seems like the mile run day at PE in fifth grade. I recognize everyone is being stretched thin, businesses are working with less employees and, well, people are too tired to give a rat's ass about your problems. However, this is still a business which should prioritize customer service. Suddenlink has failed miserably in that department. This all could have been resolved in July. For anyone deciding on internet: Suddenlink may present the best deals and offers upfront, but definitely not worth it considering the inept and subpar customer service. Absolutely horrible service. Internet goes out completely every time it is cold. Incompetent "technical support" in India advises to restart the modem as his only solution every time (as if I had not thought of that before...). After being persistent enough, finally got offered a technician visit...in one week, so one week without internet...which I need for work and my wife for study. At this point, I cancelled service after 3 years of suffering and called another provider (Vexus), that installed new service in 48 hrs. I paid for 1G service for 3 years, but never got speeds better than 370 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload on Ookla speedtest. I blamed that on my (high end) router, but no...I now get 1G as advertised in both directions with Vexus. So, in essence Optimum defrauded me for 3 years and never delivered the service I paid for. My credit card was canceled by my credit card company do to fraud and I forget to put the new card on my billing for my internet. After the bill was not paid for 3 months and the service was cut off I called to see what was wrong I was treated like a criminal and they would not allow me to pay my bill to have my service turned back on. The Day after installed I had issues for Internet and cable service. I paid for Internet that they never fixed. They charged me for the technician coming out after they told me, no service charge for technician to come out. I also paid for extra insurance. Poor customer service and very rude. when I decide to cancel they keep you on hold for three hours. They have sent my bill to collections because I refuse to pay for July and August when I clearly canceled in June and have email confirmation from Suddenlink. They will transfer you nonstop on the phone and when I go to the store in town they lie and say call this number and speak to the retention department they can help.
