This company is the freaking WORST. I will try to stay calm as I type this because I was just crying with utter frustration moments ago and that is so not like me. BUT, if you have any other option, if you value your sanity - - DON"T use this company.
It doesn't matter if you're polite or a sensible business person in the rest of your life when faced by this company's customer service - the stupidest, most impolite, most ineffectual cadre of people I've ever spoken to. I've NEVER called and been off the phone in less than a half hour. This means you can never call them on a lunch break because you'd never get to eat! Often, I can barely understand the person because the accent is so thick or they're just tired and can't be bothered to speak clearly. And after the millionth time you've asked them to repeat themselves because you can't make out what they're saying, if you ask to speak to a manager or dare to show any impatience, they give you attitude.
In the last 3 days, I've spent HOURS & HOURS on the phone either -
1) on hold
2) or plugging/ unplugging modem at their request even though it finally turned out that there was an outage in the neighborhood (so plugging and unplugging will not solve anything)
3) or been disconnected after I explained everything (and they never call back even though they have your number and could certainly do so).
4) or they had to re-boot their system which disconnected you and promise to call back but don't
5) or they don't know what they're talking about
6) or they take you through the same testing steps for the 5th time even though you told them you've done it already a million times
7) or or left you on hold so long that you finally had to hang up to let a call come in
etc., etc.
I called today and there was a 40min wait so I opted for a call back and when I got it and asked if the person understood my question (because sometimes they don't), he said huffily "Well, I am tech support so of course I do.". So I say ok and ask for help about setting up the guest network and he says ok I need to put you on hold for a few minutes to solve this. I patiently ask that he not leave me on hold indefinitely, that he please check back so I know I'm not disconnected like I have been 10+ times already in the last 3 days. So what does he do? He leaves me on hold for 20 MINUTES!! I kept saying Hello, Hello over and over again. I could hear him talking on the phone to someone else!! I didn't want to hang up and start all over again. 20 minutes on hold on the phone is an ETERNITY. After 3 days of this bullshit and now spending my Saturday on it again, I lost control and the unexpected crying started. I don't know what came over me - - I just couldn't take it anymore. And when he came back on, I was yelling and said - do you realize you just left me on hold for 20 MINUTES? You said you'd be back in a few minutes and it was like 20-25 MINUTES! And he kept saying smoothly,"I'm just here to help you, mam" like a freaking robot. So I forced myself to calm down but it doesn't matter because he's already hung up. I don't blame him but I don't blame me either.
Then I try again - -I call billing this time just to connect with a different department, the outgoing msg indicates a 1 minute hold time, so I wait a few, put the phone on speaker, walk away and after 20 minutes of listening to the outgoing periodic msg and music, I hang up. This is no way to spend a Saturday. I cry my frustration out for a few minutes again after three days of the same crap and write this.
This company sucks. I've been a customer for 15 years and the service has noticeably declined the last few years. It seems to coincide with when they became Altice. Their customer service will say they'll call you back and don't. When there are outages, you'll have to call the billing department to request (beg) for reimbursement (rather than it being automatically returned to the affected customer area) and it will take a call of 30+ minutes (between hold time, etc.) and you're lucky if they offer to reimburse $1.25 that will never show up on your bill anyway. Whenever you call the billing department, you'll be on hold a very long time so they can make sure you never call them again and to make it impossible for you to ever have corrections made on your bill. They'll overcharge you as though you still have cable boxes even though you spent 4 hrs roundtrip to return them to an outpost in the Brooklyn tundra in the hope of getting your monthly bill down. Meanwhile you'll be constantly blitzed everywhere with Altice ads about how new customers can pay a set, low price for the rest of their lives.
THEY ARE A RIP-OFF. The worst sort of almost -monopoly utility in the Brooklyn area. AVOID. Thank you for listening.
