On April 27, 2024 at around 4 pm, an eye exam at Bella Vista Optics on 736 Allerton Ave # A, Bronx, NY 10467. After my eye exam I requested a copy of my Prescription and was refused by Employee Ji, He stated the owner Adam doesn't allow patients to receive prescription information until they pick up glasses. This exam was covered by my Health Insurance. I explained to them this is a violation of the FTC Sec. 456.2 Separation of examination and dispensing. It is an unfair act or practice for an ophthalmologist or optometrist to: (a) Fail to provide to the patient one copy of the patient's prescription immediately after the eye examination is completed. Provided: An ophthalmologist or optometrist may refuse to give the patient a copy of the patient's prescription until the patient has paid for the eye examination, but only if that ophthalmologist or optometrist would have required immediate payment from that patient had the examination revealed that no ophthalmic goods were required; The employee Ji, Once again refused and told me He wouldn't be giving out any information and to speak with the owner. The name of the optometrist, Daniel Gbetodeme MD stood by and allowed the the employee to refuse to hand over my prescription.

I had a very disappointing experience at Bronx Eye Care. After my eye exam, I asked for my glasses…read moreprescription because I didn't like any of the frames they had available. Instead of simply providing it, the staff repeatedly told me for about 10 minutes that it was not possible for me to get my prescription. We went back and forth several times, and it felt like they were refusing to give it to me unless I purchased glasses there. It got to the point where I had to go to another eye doctor the next day and ask them to call Bronx Eye Care directly to request my prescription for me. Only then was I able to get it. I later learned that patients are legally entitled to receive their glasses prescription after an exam, so this situation was extremely frustrating. Overall, I left feeling very disappointed with my experience. It honestly felt like they were trying to pressure me into spending money there instead of respecting my rights as a patient. As a younger patient, I also felt like they assumed I wouldn't know any better, which made the experience even more upsetting. I hope they improve their practices so other patients don't have to go through the same situation.
