My experience at Optical Innovations has been perhaps the worst example of customer service I've ever received. And I don't write these reviews lightly. I am a repeat customer, and after buying my second pair of glasses, bringing my total expenditure at Optical Innovations to $1,000 in the space of about 4 months, I wanted to return a pair of frames that were so uncomfortable I truly couldn't wear them. The retail price of the frames was $75, and, as you might imagine, that probably represented an investment of about $35 (or less) for Optical Innovations. They finally agreed to "break" their policy and accept a return after 30 days of thinking about it. This process required three phone calls on my part and one trip to the store to actually give in, pick up the frames, and keep them myself - which offer they refused. Then, they told me, repeatedly, that they mailed me a check representing a refund. After six weeks went by without receiving the check (by the way, they are about 10 blocks from my house), and multiple phone calls, I again wanted to just pick up the frames and move on. They refused to allow me to do that, and in fact, hung up on me when I called. Imagine my surprise to receive, finally, a week ago, a check representing payment for the returned item. Which, by the way, I'm pretty confident they sold to someone else, which is why they wouldn't (and couldn't) give it to me when I asked for the glasses back. For me, this wasn't about the money - it was about a horrifying example of a complete and total lack of customer service. For a sum of $35 or less, they were perfectly willing to ruin any chances of an ongoing relationship (and I buy glasses, often, as does every member of my family). They lied, then lied some more. Then hung up on me when I called -- and finally -- when I was almost beyond caring, capitulated and send me a refund. In this instance, everyone is a loser. I lost the ridiculous amount of time and energy that dealing with them - over this trivial issue - required of me. And they lost all credibility and the chance to ever serve me again, in any capacity. Sadly, as I began to ask around after receiving this kind of treatment at Optical Innovations, many similar stories surfaced. In sum, my advice for those for whom great customer service is as important as great eyewear, that you avoid Optical Innovations at all costs. read more

If you are looking for cheap glasses, do not come here. If you are looking for normal frames, this is not your store. This is a glasses lovers store. I wear my glasses every day. I wear my glasses more than any pair of shoes I own (and I am a shoe lover). I came here looking for something different and I found it. I saw the most lovely sunglass frames that I wanted as eye glasses. When I asked if they could pop the dark lenses out, they didn't even blink. Out came the dark lenses and I now have the cutest glasses in KC. Many places will refuse this simple service but these ladies took care of me. At busy times, they are a bit overwhelmed. But that is common in luxury boutiques. If you want something other than luxury, go to lens crafters. I will stay here! read more

Optical Innovations has a wide variety of frames and a helpful staff of employees who are willing to help one find a pair that fit and look great. In addition to picking out new frames, one may return for adjustments and getting new lenses when his or her prescription changes. Occasionally, there is only one employee working at a time, so there is sometimes a short wait if a person tries to come in during a rush, but the staff is obviously efficient, and I would not rate the service unduly slow. The staff takes care to meet the needs and expectations of the customers without rushing customers through their transactions in a friendly and highly efficient manner. Optical Innovations has a fine selection of product and a great staff that are eager to help. I do not hesitate to recommend Optical Innovations to anyone needing new lenses or frames. I have never had glasses before so looking was a bit stressful and frustrating because I wanted a pair that were fun, different and not just the typical made in China pair from Walmart or Costco. I found that at Optical Innovations. They were very friendly every time I went in to look and I looked many times and tried on MANY pairs of glasses. which I know had to take some patience because I am extremely picky. I am very pleased with the pair I ended up purchasing from them and they have been great about answering any questions I have to making small adjustments as I have been getting used to wearing them. Two other women from my work buy glasses at Optical Innovations and they love them as well. They also have really fun and funky glasses! My partner has worn glasses her entire life and had a variety of styles from a variety of places and she is planning on getting her next pair at Optical innovations after seeing how great the customer service was and how cute my glasses turned out! Just selected another pair of frames from Optical Innovations! Both Hubby & I are extremely pleased with the frame selections; this is the fourth pair between us. We've worked with Erin on three occasions but the other technician is just as talented at helping you select the perfect frame from their wide assortment. I wanted eyewear that compliments my coloring and features, and now regularly receive such comments about my everyday frames. The same is true for Hubby. Although I only compared their prices with the cost of frames/lens where I had my eye examination, Optical Innovations was comparable and the selection is much better. read more

Amazing team. I have a tough prescription and they always hide those thick lenses in a super cool frame that looks great. The owner, Debbie, even met me on a Sunday night at 10pm to fix my broken glasses before a business trip the next day. Not something I would expect but it blew me away when she worked that out. (Shaking head in disappointment) Optical Innovations, I wanted to love you. I thought we were a sure thing. A match made to be. Alas you turned out to be the really hot girl who has nothing else to offer... I really enjoy seeing new, creative designs. As well as products that are well made. Something that stands out from the assembly line stamped out stuff that the big box stores display in bins. So OI seemed like a no brainier. The reality though is after five trips over a couple of years now that while they do have exclusive brands, they do not have any actual designs or products that you would not find at your eye doctors office, or at the chain places, or even at Costco. Nor is the quality of what they carry noticeably different. Even their Theo's (supposedly hand made on the thighs over virgins or some such story) that will cost you well over $1,000 with lenses will break after a year or so. Just like the $50 ones you buy else where. And when your $1000+ glass from OI do break just like the cheaper ones OI will gladly offer to replace them.... for another $1000+ Now normally I don't really care about decor or customer service that much, but if you are hitting your customers with a shameless 400% - 800% markup there is a level of effort that is generally expected in both the design of your store and the helpfulness of your employees. And both are missing here. So alas I bid you fair well as I have given up and am off to Costco with my new prescription. read more

My first review ever for anyone. Optical Innovations has a great selection of very cool and unique frames.not easily found at other places. Very pricey but my wife wanted and so we spent about double what a "normal" pair would have cost. After one and a half years the coating on the glasses failed. Optical said this was the manufacturers problem and that their warranty was only for one year. They could put new lenses in the existing frames for $400. My neighbor had the exact same problem with her glasses from Optical Innovations twice! You would think that they could find a new manufacturer. If you want to spend a lot on glasses that don't last very long then this is the place. Otherwise, buyer beware! read more

What a great shop. The most unique and interesting choices of frames you can find. I went alone with no one to help me make the decision. The young man helping me was honest and such a help. He then called my ophthalmologist for my prescription, they refused to give it to them be cause it had been a year and 2 months since I had last seen them. I had been looking for frames that were unique and "just right" for me for weeks. The lady that helped me (Erin) at Optical Innovations took one look at me and pulled out the PERFECT frames within the first minute! She was FANTASTIC - friendly, funny and an EXPERT at her job!! I agree with the previous revues stating problems with customer service and other issues. I, too needed to return a pair-a VERY expensive pair of progressive lenses with frames fully loaded. My doctor said that the prescription was wrong on many levels, so I did not trust them to remake them a third time (they had already tried to "fix" the issues once). They were EXTREMELY rude and said that would never happen-the return and refund as I had "worn" them. Excuse me, but wasn't I supposed to wear them?!?! I called many times to get this resolved and was actually hung up on TWICE! DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE!!!! And certainly don't waste your hard-earned money to buy something! I am out $975 and have a pair of glasses that will go into my Lion's Club donation box. I went to a little family shop at Oak Park Mall called Invision Eyewear and bought a fabulous pair for around the same price and the people there were WONDERFUL! read more
