Recently, I had a prescription change due to eye surgery and needed to replace 3 pairs of glass lenses. I had hope to reuse all of my frames but one pair didn't make the transition. I originally had gone to my previous optometrists office however based on the price they quoted per pair $600 for lenses only it was clear based on the sales associates indifference they weren't really interested in my business. I removed their Yelp review because I could no longer stand behind the level of customer service. Enter Fairway Eye center. Some years ago I had done business with Fairway and remembered the excellent customer service. In fact the only reason I really switched was they didn't have the frames I wanted. I digress. So after getting a completely outrageous quote I called Fairway and asked for Tina. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out she was still there. I explained my dilemma and all I can say is that Fairway came to the rescue once again. The prices were completely reasonable and Fairway stands 100% behind their product and customer service. Overall eye exam went well; it's the office staff that did make a good impression on me. It was written down on my paperwork & the doctor mentioned that (one) contact would need to be ordered for my left eye, I even reiterated (one) contact needed to be ordered, she billed me, took my money but did NOT order my contact until I "reminded" her once again! I was not advised when or how my contacts would be available to top it all off I had to ask for a paid receipt and was met with "oh you want a receipt?" Seriously, if it's not written down it didn't happen. I called to check the status of my contact and was told "You're in a wait status" and that they should have already been received. I asked if I had to go to the office or will the contacts be delivered to my home, the gentleman said "oh you should have been given the choice at the time of the order if you wanted them mailed to your...and of course I was not given that or any other option. In short, not a happy camper!!!!! I would have given a 2.5, but the Dr. and techs were nice and proficient for the most part, one of the techs seemed new and struggled through the screening. read more

I was visiting from out of town when I experienced an eye issue. I contacted my doctor at home who recommended I be seen ASAP by a provider. I called Fairway Eye Center remembering it was the practice where my son and his family go. Everyone from the receptionist to the doctor was amazing. I was scheduled for an immediate appointment and received thorough, excellent care. Several days later I was able to follow up with my doctor at home as recommended. My experience was superb. My experience with the optometrist have been professional and thorough. Thank you, Dr. Bunde and Dr. Price. Unfortunately, the front desk, billing, and some of the staff often seem that they are bothered to help out. I was billed part of the insurance that wasn't covered 11 months after services, in short, after asking them twice and walking in to their business to discuss, and twice over the phone, there is no resolution. So I went a third time, paid the outstanding charges, And I asked them to put me on a do not contact list as I will find another practice. This is unfortunate for the great doctors there. I wanted to stay with them, but didn't want to invest more energy in dealing with the staff at the Leawood address. My apologies to Dr. Bunde and Dr. Price as they are professional and wonderful to work with, I hated to leave them. read more

Terrible service. I had contacts from them for the last 6 months that worked great, went to order more and asked for the brand they keep in stock so I could get them quickly, and they sold them to me without mentioning that the "base curve" measurement for that brand is different. Got the new contacts and I can't see clearly out of them. Told the office and they argued that I shouldn't notice a difference and that they have no idea why the contacts wouldn't work. Even the manager argued this. Never going to this office again. Waste of time and money. read more

We've been a Fairway Eye Center family for about 11 years now. We started with Dr. Bunde, who helped us navigate amblyopia (lazy eye) and eye patching, and later, eye therapy for my middle child. I, too, have amblyopia, so I get my regular eye exams, contacts, and glasses here. Now my youngest (age 11) is also struggling, and we see Dr. Nichols at this location. She's been kind, patient, and thorough over the years, and my youngest feels very comfortable in her care. We went last week for annual exams-- Lisa welcomed us warmly (as always!), and Dr. Nichols worked her magic. My daughter and I both needed new prescriptions and glasses. Mikaela helped Piper narrow down her favorite new sparkly frames and less than a week later, they were ready! We picked them up yesterday and as you can see, she's in love! Visited Fairway eye center December 2022. The Doctor did my exam and said my vision have not changed. I never bye frames from Fairway due to there sub par selection. I purchase my frames from a designer frame store.The designer frame store informed me my prescription had changed which contradicted Fairway. After getting my new pair I could see better with the old pair,After going back to fairway,Fairway acknowledged my prescription had changed but no apology not to mention one of the office worker should be retrained on being polite and good manners.Have always been taught to say hi when someone say hello to you. I saw Dr. Jessica Nichols and the exam felt very fast and rushed. She told me that I didn't need vision correction of my right eye, and I then told her I definitely have had vision correction on my right eye in the past and asked if we could look at my previous prescription. She said we didn't need to look at the previous prescription and, "you don't need correction in the right eye based on what you told me". I asked again if we could look at the previous prescription and she said, "we can go with the prescription I just gave you and come back if there are any issues". It then seemed clear I was not welcome to take up more of her time and was expected to pay and leave and come back later. read more

Customer service and management of ordered products could be improved. There's one person who works in the front office that I find to be somewhat rude and typically sarcastic. It's to the point that I will avoid working with her. On top of that, on June 18, I ordered replacement lens. 3 weeks later, I still hadn't heard anything. I called to find out that there was a miscommunication between the office and the lab. The lens arrived a week later but were wrong. They were for my sunglasses instead of my regular glasses for which the order was supposed to have been placed. I then asked to have the correct order made, plus an additional pair for my other lens due to scratches on a second pair. A week later, even though both lenses were ordered at the same time, one pair arrived. I went in today to find out that only one pair arrived. I called later to see if the second order had been placed because of the prior messes. A very nice person researched to my concern and found out the second pair should arrive this Friday. Again, 2 pairs were ordered at the same time but did arrive together. I also told her my concern about the employee who tends to be unpleasant. She let me know she'd talk to her. So .... Customer service is a concern plus the overall management of when lenses or glasses are ordered and delivered. Is there a tracking system? It seems as though if a customer's order hadn't arrived in a reasonable time, it would've been noticed. Instead, I had to bring it to their attention. It's been a frustrating experience. read more

New patient experience was initially very positive - ease of getting an appointment, friendly office staff, nice eye doctor with typical eye exam. It got awkward at the end when I was asked to sit at a desk in the lobby. I assume the guy across from me was going to try and sale me some frames. At no point did he try to sale me anything, but it was awkward. Upon payment, I was not given a my prescription or told that it would be emailed to me. Instead, I had to ask for it- weird. When I called today to inquire if not giving a copy of a prescription is standard practice, the office staff said "yes," they just keep it on file. read more

The optician, Sam, was super friendly and I could tell she was very experienced in her field. Dr. Price made me feel at ease and she seemed very knowledgeable. I made an appointment with KU Eye, but the soonest I could be seen wasn't for a few months and I needed glasses ASAP. Fairway was able to get me seen as early as the next week, so I took the appointment but didn't cancel the other one I'd made with KU. Appt with Fairway rolled around and it seemed to go great. Everyone was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. The lady at the desk showing me glasses afterward did seem to get a bit frustrated by how much time I spent browsing frames, and was even more frustrated when I asked for a prescription to be printed and didn't buy anything. I ordered two pairs of glasses from EyeBuyDirect for less than $100 total using the prescription I was given by Fairway (would've cost a few hundred there and I'm not about throwing away money). Glasses arrived and seemed awesome, but I didn't feel like they had improved my vision. Decided to give it a few weeks to account for any adjustment period. I'm a medical student and spend 8+ hours a day studying in front of a computer, so the burning eye strain I experienced during this time wasn't exactly ideal. Finally, my appointment with KU rolled around, and wouldn't you know - I was given the wrong prescription by Fairway. They gave me a prescription for someone that is nearsighted. I'm farsighted. Got more cheap, quality glasses from EyeBuyDirect using the new script and they're perfect. I don't know if it was a clerical error or what, but either way, they cost me literal months of discomfort. read more

Disorganization and lack of customer care is a good way to describe it. Sold me a "year's worth of contacts" but gave me 6 months worth. When I pointed out that the recommendation by the manufacturer was to change the lens every two weeks the young woman told me to try wearing them for a month at a time and that the office manager told them that a year's supply was to be one lens per eye monthly. This was not what the eye doctor had told me when I started wearing the lenses. If recommendations have changed then the eye doctor should tell the patient and I feel as if the manufacturer recommendation and advertising of bi-weekly lens should be followed. I still feel like I got charged for a year's supply but sent home with a 6 month supply. The boxes were even clearly marked to only sell in sets of 24 lens and yet they broke the sets down. Additionally I sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes before I was seen and yet there was no one else there at the time. Finally, even though I paid for an eye exam and prescription, it is not standard procedure for this office to print your new prescription for future use. And when asked to print the prescription she really was not wanting to do so. read more

My spouse and I go here for vision checks. We have been happy so far with their eye doctors. Our only complaint is their selection of products. Meh. We both prefer products such as Iyoko Inyake, Feb 31st, etc, so their selection just isn't for us. If their inventory was better, we would definitely purchase our glasses here. read more

Appointment 4/13/2021 Fairway Eye Center location. Service was okay. Dr. Nichols was detailed in explaining to me about my eye examine. I did ask the representative (the last person that assisted me), for a printed detailed receipt of my bill. I was told that I could not get a receipt that day, that I would have to wait to get a receipt once I returned in 2 weeks to pick up my glasses?????? Not sure why I would have to wait to get a printed receipt??? If you make a purchase at a grocery store, you get a printed receipt, if you make a purchase at a Retail store, you get a printed receipt??? and etc. Why, would I not be able to get my receipt from Fairway Eye Center? Especially since I paid balance if FULL for eye examine and glasses. I have been a patient at Fairway Eye Center since 2004, when Dr. Bunde first open this location. At that time the atmosphere and customer service was great. Now the vibe has changed, not as courteous, polite or caring as it use to be. I left another eye center and went with Dr. Bunde as a patient at his new Fairway Eye Center, but now I am contemplating about going back to my previous Eye Care Center or another eye center. I spent 4 months trying to get a functional set of contacts. After 3 visits and about 5 sets of trials, I finally ended up going back to my old optometrist and paying out of pocket/out of network to get the right prescription. It was worth it! In my 40 years of eye doctors I've never dealt with such disorganization and lack of customer service/care. Every set of trials were drastically different than the previous. When we finally got one eye right and I told them it was perfect, don't change it......I went to pick up the new trials and it was changed. I'm assuming due to lack of good notes/communication within the office. It seemed to be an ongoing issue. There was never an apology or regard for how many visits it was taking and the fact that they couldn't get the prescription correct. There was no explanation of anything regarding my vision or changes. Will never go back - Liberty location. read more

I've been going to Fairway Eye Center in Leawood for at least 5 years and have never been treated like I was treated today. I had an appointment at 2:30, of which I confirmed and arrived early. Another customer walked in right before me, who apparently had an appointment later in the day but was trying to get seen sooner. The front desk person told her there was not an opening and she was welcomed to wait to see if something opened up, however someone in the back room told him to work her in. The front desk person took both of our check-in paperwork, and we proceeded to wait to be called back. To my disappointment they called the other person back first. When I asked why, all they could say was because they could finish her quicker. At 2:45 I'm still questioning and they are still not ready for me. During this time they finished her and put her in the physician's room to complete her appointment. Even though I expressed how disappointed and unhappy I was, they continued to defend their behavior. Please note when this happens, without any reasonable explanation it leaves one to believe, the other person was helped first because she wasn't a person of color, of which I am. This type of customer service, and treatment of others is unacceptable. This feels like discrimination, and clearly those that work at the clinic do not believe in equal rights and equity for all. So if you're a person of color, and want to be treated fairly, you may want to avoid Fairway Eye Center in Leawood. The total disregard for me as a equal paying customer was unbelievable. I would not wish that treatment on anyone. This experience was beyond "not good", it was despicable, and quite hurtful. read more

Granted, I have only gone to this location once, I had a great experience! I was there first thing in the morning and upon arrival, the receptionist politely gave me some paperwork. I grabbed a cup of coffee and sat down. Shortly after, I was taken back for the eye exam. Absolutely everyone was polite to me, joked around with me, and made me feel welcome. This includes the receptionist, two techs, the eye doctor, and the gentleman who checked me out. I would definitely recommend this place! I just got a basic eye exam and was in and out in 30 minutes. read more

My husband goes here and recommend it to me as I had not had my eyes checked in 6 years. the place is so cute and I did enjoy a nice cup of tea from the Keurig while I waited. I was brought back into the first room where all the basic tests took place - easy, quick, she was nice. Great! Then I saw the doctor who was very nice and easy to talk to, he explained to me everything that was going on with my eyes even though there wasn't much going on, he still went over everything with me and asked if I had questions. Easy, thorough, and not pushy about needing glasses - great! Got glasses anyway because, well, they have a really nice selection and my old ones were not my same prescription. The gal who helped me was very nice and not pushy - also great! I'd return just to sit in their cozy waiting area to watch hgtv and drink tea, honestly. I was a patient at Fairway Eye Center for 7 years, mainly due to the medical staff. The service has always been a little dismissive, I was always seen well after my scheduled appointment time, and it would always feel a little like waiting in a casting room with people trying out for the real housewives of Kansas City. During my last visit, the poor service finally trumped my loyalty to the doctors. First, they failed to process a rescheduled appointment so I wasn't on the schedule when I showed up. Honest enough mistake, although when they have their schedule packed so tightly it's not exactly easy to clear another 2 hours for another reschedule. Next, they told me that I was no longer covered by my insurance. Admittedly, I hadn't paid much attention to my company's new benefits so I didn't know if we had switched providers. I told them I had my medica card, although I was informed it wouldn't cover my "contacts appointment" (which is really just code for getting a valid contact prescription after a valid eye appointment). Instead of offering to do the appointment and bill my insurance after I had a chance to check on it, they instead insisted I just pay out of pocket for the appointment and contacts. I recognize that you can't go giving free services away to people hoping that they'll call back with insurance information, but I was a patient there for seven years and had spent thousands of dollars on care and eye glasses during that time. I'm sorry Fairway Eye Center, but having good doctors isn't enough to keep patients. read more

I really wish I had read some of the reviews about this office and the other experiences people have had with their poor note taking. Back in the early fall I found some frames at another store that didn't take VSP. I got all the info and went to Fairway Eye Center and a very kind lady helped me find them and pulled up my vision insurance information from VSP and told me and explained my benefits. She explained they didn't have them in stock and asked one of the other staff (a man with a southern accent) if they could be ordered. He said he would just order them and if I didn't like them he would just place them in their display case. Fast forward several weeks and I call. I was kindly told they were ordered but shipment was slow. I stopped by to ask again and was told again they weren't in and updated my phone number with the lady at the front. Because today is the last workday of 2022 before my coverage ran out I called again. I was told they still weren't in. Up until this point everyone was kind. But then they guy I mentioned earlier called and denied the whole thing by saying I "didn't pull the trigger" and were never ordered. Even though I had been in contact four times over several months he acted like it was my fault. I reminded him of specifics of our conversation and he literally became belligerent with me because he said he didn't have any notes (even though he said, "that sounds like me"). I reminded him I was sitting at the desk of the lady right in front of him but then he changed his story and said "a lot of people sit in front of me". I asked to speak to a manager and he responded "I'm not afraid of you". Several times he referred to me a "buddy" instead of my name. Fortunately I took notes as I was talking with him but he abruptly said, "I'm ending the call" and hung up on me. I have been super patient and kind to everyone I talked to over several months but instead of him taking responsibility for not noting my chart this guy tried to bully me and make it my fault. Worst customer service! if you choose to do business with them note the date, time and exactly who you talk to! And ask if your visit was noted in your chart! Fortunately KU fixed me up in about 30 minutes. read more

I don't usually write negative reviews, but my experience with Fairway Eye Center has been pretty disappointing. I showed up for my appointment and they told me they didn't have a record of it. They were able to see me anyway, but I waited for almost an hour. Their prices for glasses were a bit on the pricey side, but I ordered through them anyway because I wanted to make sure I got good, professionally done lenses to avoid eye strain from working on a computer. Unfortunately, they botched the lenses three times! The first pair were progressives, made for middle and long distance instead of reading and middle distance (office glasses). The second pair were correct, but the reading portion of the lens was too low, causing me to have to read at an awkward angle. I gave up on progressives and asked for straight readers. The lenses that came back were for distance vision, not reading. Still waiting for a fourth set. The medical staff is pleasant and accommodating, but I'll never buy glasses from them again. read more

I wish I had read these other reviews before I went in! I scheduled an appointment b/c they took my eye insurance (VSP). I have been wearing contacts for over 20 years, so I generally know what to expect. 1. They wanted a copy of my medical insurance card. I asked why and was told it was "in case the doctor wants to bill medically". That's a new one to me. 2. The exam was fast and I was told the opposite of what two other eye docs have told me for my left eye (I have an astigmatism - this doc said I do not). 3. I was charged almost $80 for a contact lens fitting fee. This fee is not normally covered by insurance so I expected to pay something out of pocket - this is almost 50% more than comparable offices. 4. I ordered contacts and used my VSP benefits. I was told I would receive six months worth of lenses (I wear two week disposables for astigmatism). That would be four boxes. When I went to pick them up I got two boxes. When I asked why I was getting two boxes, they told me the lenses were to be worn for a month at a time. My other docs said these are two weeks lenses and I confirmed this on the Johnson and Johnson website. What??? I would highly recommend you spend your time and money elsewhere. read more

I just happen to find this office from a list of providers through my insurance. I am so glad that I ended up picking Fairway Eye Center. Dr. Schreiber is great! My youngest isn't the easiest to deal with when going to see doctors. He explains everything thoroughly to make sure I understood everything he was saying. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is because the front staff. There is one in particular that has been rude the two times I've been in. This last visit she rolled her eyes when my youngest was whiney. That's unnecessary. Also, when she checked us out and told me the amount, I looked to my children's father to pay. We both overheard her say to another worker, "it's just $15." I only looked to him to pay because simply I wanted him to. If she's like this towards us, I'm sure she is to other patients which is unfortunate since the doctors and other staff are wonderful. read more

I "inherited" Fairway Eye Center; my previous eye doctor became part of the Fairway practice, and I went along. He's since left, but I'm still going there all the same. Atmosphere-wise, the place is a little too Johnson County for me -- fireplace in the lobby, with leather sofas and a Starbucks coffee machine. (I came here to get my eyes checked, not to whip out the laptop!) But, at the same time -- the service and care are impeccable. During my latest appointment, I was seen quickly - taken care of quickly - and all with a smile and some TLC. The staff checked my insurance before I came in and noticed that it had changed -- and were even willing to make some calls to determine just who my new eyecare insurance provider was. There's a feeling of upselling there a little bit -- it's not unusual in an eye doctor's office, but it's still a hair annoying. They wanted to charge me for an astigmatism check (which the doctor ended up waiving the fee for because she thought it was super-necessary), and of course, there's a retail eyeglass shop - why - 15 feet away from the screening room! (In fairness -- they didn't pitch a fit when I asked for a hard copy of my prescription so I could go elsewhere for my frames.) 4-stars means "Yay! I'm a fan" here in the Yelp world. This is the place for all your eyeglass needs! I recently visited Fairway Eye Center, and i have to say i was pretty impressed. The staff was extremely knowledgeable of their merchandise, i really liked the style of this pair of Oakley glasses but i wasn't a big fan of the color and they were a little bit to wide for my face anyway. without even having to ask i was approached by one of the employees, and she addressed my two concerns over the pair, right off the bat she suggested we order the smaller frames, and even a different color to go better with my eyes. Doctors here are GREAT & all the people from the receptionist to the technicians are SUPER SUPER NICE & FRIENDLY! But so many issues; got sent a bill for someone else's exam a week before I'd even had mine, one person told me my insurance would cover everything the next person told me I'd have to pay $300 out of pocket, and instead of calling me to let me know my prescription was ready, I was patiently waiting for a call because I did not want to pester them because I KNEW they'd call me as they'd done in the past, but sadly no, got an email sent to an old not often used email address. Even though they were unable to fix them on the spot for me, they referred me to someone they thought could. Everyone was so helpful and friendly from the moment I walked in.
