I'm trying to help my 20 year old take care of her own 'things' as she's an adult and we're two COVID years behind on life lessons. BIG MISTAKE!! She loved the doctor but when it came to picking out glasses? Ugg!! Seriously!! I have vision insurance and still had to pay $1352.00 for two pairs of glasses because, "it's buy one get one half off so you really should," then they talked her into some "specialty" lenses @ a whopping $850 for one pair which she said the insurance wouldn't cover so she wasn't going to even try to send it in to my insurance. Most of us wear glasses in the family and I have NEVER paid that much before. Frames were fairly reasonable at $250 and $200 which they then discounted to $125 and $100 but again, she wasn't going to even try to send it into my insurance "because we've given you such deep discounts, your insurance wouldn't cover anything anyway." Remember, after all of the 'deep discounts' my final bill was still $1352.00 which was due in full that day and not 50% down until you receive your glasses. I called my insurance company to submit a claim for myself and was told that I don't have any claims for the whole year for vision (but the lady told me she wasn't going to so I wasn't surprised) and that one pair of lenses were covered at 100% each year and I should only have to pay 20% of anything over $130 for one frame per year. My insurance company tried to call Optical Illusions while I was on the phone to have them submit the claim, but no one answered because they have freakishly strange office hours. I called Optical Illusions and left a message for them to call me. I was contacted by a really nice lady and told that ALL claims are submitted to insurance. Regardless. They are ALL submitted. She would research and get back to me. Meanwhile, my insurance calls me back. The claim was submitted to Medical and not Vision. I was to call Optical Illusions (yet again) and have them resubmit as a Vision claim. I looked up the EOB (Explanation of Benefits) and yup, there it was. Denied of course as "my medical plan does not cover vision". Called Optical Illusions and do you think I could speak with the nice lady that helped me earlier? Nope. My fault. I didn't get her name. Lucky me! I got the lady that sold my daughter her gold plated lenses/glasses. She assured me that she did NOT submit it to my insurance. I said, "I'm looking at it!" She could not be persuaded otherwise. She did not submit a claim and she would not submit a claim. I told her that I had called and verified that the lenses were covered and she said they weren't. I said, "They are, please humor me and just submit the claim." She said, "No." I said, "Whatever. We won't be back and I'm going to submit a howler of a review. A 'nastygram' to curl your toes." Dr. was fine. Go somewhere else for your glasses and lenses and don't let that lady get anywhere near your impressionable young adults. Lesson learned. I will be going with my daughter until she's 26 and off my insurance so I don't have to take out a 2nd mortgage to cover the cost of the visit. Sigh. read more
