When a restaurant's name is also its signature dish, you know you have to try it! That was the first thing that stood out to me about Oppa: their name literally says Beef Bone Soup in the title. So, I glanced over the menu, but I knew exactly what I was ordering before I ever stepped foot in the building. One beef bone soup, please! Actually, I didn't need to use words because you order from a large touchscreen device. After confirming your payment, feel free to find a seat. The service was prompt and before I knew it, there was piping hot beef soup at my table. Oh, and if you are wondering about the word "bone" in the name, wonder no more. There is 100% a bone in your soup with all sorts of meat and fat attached. That was surprise. I'm 50/50 on how I feel about the bone. I know the bone can bring flavor, but it also made eating the soup a little challenging, at times, as you had to tear or cut pieces of meat off the bone and it also included some sinew and fatty pieces I skipped over. The broth was tasty. At first, it was so hot, it was had to distinguish the actual flavor. But once it cooled off a bit, it kept getting tastier. The broth itself is where this restaurant gets its four stars. It was good, but was missing something to make it a 5-star soup. Plus, fighting with the bone is not something you'd want to do with company. One of my favorite ways to eat is when you have to assemble or "play" with your food, especially with others. Sitting and doing something with your hands seems to keep the conversation flowing. This beef bone soup had that element. I learned a new word while I was there: banchan. Banchan are the little side dishes that come out with Korean cuisine, and this soup came with banchan! What a fun and new experience! It also gave me that food experience that I love as I grabbed a pinch of rice with my nori. And I was able to try two different types of kimchi. The atmosphere was modest, yet clean. Any time is a good time for soup, but it's an especially good time when it's been freaking cold for weeks, the sun hasn't come out in days, and the snow keeps piling up by the minute. Then, soup becomes a necessity. So, Oppa Beef Bone Soup it was! I was intrigued by the name: it had the word "bone" in it. Surely, they mean bone broth, and there's not bones in the soup. Wrong! There are big bones in the soup. (That's what she said.) At least, there were meaty bones in the soup that I ordered, which was the Signature Korean Beef Soup. Along with the soup, you get your choice of noodles or rice, and I suggest that you get rice, because you also get banchan, which goes nicely with rice. I got five little dishes of banchan, which included cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, cucumber kimchi, wakame (seaweed salad), and strips of egg. You also get dried sheets of nori. The soup comes out very hot, and honestly, the broth gets better as it cools down. By the end of my meal, the broth was super delicious. The soup also has lots of bone-in pieces of meat, some of which are fatty or have gristly bits, so it can be a little difficult to eat (or you might get a mouthful of tough stuff). This particular soup makes you work for it, a bit. Along with beef, the soup had enoki mushrooms, bean sprouts and scallions. It was a simple soup, but it was tasty and warm. This is one of those restaurants where you might want to stay and linger a while, enjoying the food and company (if you have it) and ambiance. The soup and banchan kind of demand your attention and focus. And what I mean by ambiance is: The lighting is nice here, and makes you look nice! Order at the counter and they will bring your food out to you. I ordered the Beef Rice Noodle Soup and within minutes I received the small side dishes and utensils. Only a few moments later my soup was brought out to me. Big bowl with a giant bone sticking out. The bone looked bare but one you lifted it up there was a lot of meat attached to it. The meat being so tender and flavorful, I was delighted. The broth was absolutely one of the best I ever had. In it were lots of soy bean sprouts, enaki mushrooms, glass noodles and bits of beef. Forgot to mention that you also get a side of rice served with the soup. All in all I would highly recommend this place. Especially on a cold night or if you are just craving comfort food. Although I like the meal, I'm not sure if it's the most authentic compared to other Korean restaurants I've had. The kalbi portion was a little small and the fried battered chicken coating was quite thick. it's pretty short staffed the day I went and it took like 45 minutes for food to come out when there were 3 tables but it was a comfortable environment to lounge for a bit. Visited Oppa Beef Bone Soup and it instantly became a new favorite. I ordered the Special Beef Bone Soup, a Korean oxtail soup cooked for hours, and it was absolutely delicious. Rich, savory, and full of tender, fall-off-the-bone meat. The glass noodles were the perfect touch, and the sides of rice, seaweed salad, and kimchi rounded everything out beautifully. Our foodie group came to Oppa Beef Bone Soup for some soup on a cold night. This was a wonderful hole-in-the-wall place in a strip mall in Castleton, and I was not expecting Oppa Beef Bone Soup to be so amazing and excellent. This is a very small space in a strip mall, and the ambiance is nice for a small space with nice decor and quotations around the space for motivation. I went up to the counter to place my order and a nice woman told me my options on the menu. They also carry a selection of Harmony Tea, so if you like Harmony Tea, you will live this place. After looking over the menu, I decided upon the signature Korean Beef Bone Soup, since that is what my friends ordered as well. I also ordered a Jasmine Green Tea with Matcha foam for my beverage. When I say down with my group, my food arrived to me within 5 minutes, so I was very impressed! The soup was huge and came with many toppings on the side to put in the soup. I was blown away by the actual bone in the soup with the beef on it and the beef coming off of the bone in the soup. It was an excellent presentation. The Korean Beef Bone Soup was the most amazing bowl of soup I have ever had in my life! Not only was there plenty of big beef chunks in my soup, the combination of flavors from the broth and the toppings I put into the soup i.e. Chinese fried noodles, seaweed, squid, etc. made it taste like pure heaven. For a cold night in Indy, this soup was the perfect meal. The Jasmine Green Tea was delicious and tasted wonderful as well. The matcha foam made it taste just as perfect. The kiosk that they have as you enter is really cool, seeing as I've found that having the ability to not only select what I want, but decide whether or not I want to keep or omit certain items, whether it would be due to allergies or taste, truly helps cut down the chances of having something made that was not to my specifications, and thus lowering the possibility of having a bad experience when it comes to the food. I would give this place 6 stars if I could. Excellent little spot. Cute and clean interior. Service was excellent and I received my food piping hot in no time. The cucumber banchan was the best I've ever had i could have had a whole plate of it. The amount of food for the price is very good. I could only finish about half the meal so the rest is perfect leftovers. The tofu soup was incredible not too spicy but so delicious and filling.
