I have no idea why these reviews are negative. The interior is clean and cozy. TV on quietly. Lots of comfy chairs and a welcoming staff. We love Dominick and Leo in particular. Always warm and they listen and try to get the job done as quickly as possible. Firsst the marked up over MSRP, called it a market adjustment, right after a hurricane. then, the suburu installed accessory was falling off. they said 'theyre all like that". this seems to be their mantra with defects. I had to get SOA involved. this was a known issue with this model. it took them 3 trys to install properly. the third try, at least it functioned, but was not up to par cosmetically. they gave me a loaner car for which they charged me several hundred dollars for what should have been a warranty claim. I had them do a tune up, including a 5 tire rotation, as per manual. They only did (hopefully) a 4 tire rotation. I know the full sized spare wasn't rotated, since I marked it. If they cant even do a tire rotation properly, Can I really trust them to do anything? Also do they not realize a person, in a jam may pay the 'market adjustment' . But youre going to have a hard time rebuilding trust if they ever want to sell this person another car. They failed at this. read more

One of them is buying a safe and reliable car at a price point we could comfortably afford. I actually did a lot of research through CarFax over the summer to make sure I got the biggest bang for my buck as I knew I needed a vehicle to last as long as possible. Robert Colon made my car buying experience easy and fun from the moment I called him to ask about the 2022 GMC Acadia Denali to the close of the sale. He was able to work within my budget and I really appreciated not feeling like there was any high pressure tactics. He was very kind and respectful and was very quick with finalizing the deal making it as easy as possible. Lou in financing was just as awesome too. Didn't try to upsell me to purchase any additional services/warranties that were not necessary and got me out the door quickly. They also was able to take all of the stress away by registering/titling the vehicle in Alaska for me. The coolest thing too was that although I bought a used GMC from a Subaru dealership (it was a trade in), they did all of the little things that a person buying a brand new car gets down to the group picture with the big red ribbon on the vehicle (which I declined). Tried to charge my extended service insurance $12.5K for a new transmission, when all the vehicle needed was new spark plugs.

I scheduled a maintenance online a couple weeks ago. I had to do it in a desktop. The mobile version of the website was not really user friendly. I needed to select a service agent and then it opens up the time slots available. During the morning of my service I found out they moved the service to another address. It's located in 1180 Springfield rd. Once there it was an easy set up. They had my information and my appointment ready. I told them that I changed my oil, oil filter and cabin filter a week ago. The immediate reaction from the agent was almost angry as if 'why you brought it in then?'. The tone quickly changed when I told him that I have a humming noise in the rear side of my car when I drive. He was nice to explain that my 36,000 mile warranty expired but my extended warranty was in affect.(I think the additional warranty I paid when I purchased the car a couple years ago not the scam warranty from India or robot). From his experience he thought it's the rear wheel bearings. And my car should still get a wheel alignment. I agreed and signed the paper work. I didn't use their shuttle service. Boo Boo drove us home. A few hours later I get a phone car saying that my car is ready. The noise were from loose wheel bearings and the warranty covered it. I'm happy that I didn't get upsold like my Bushing needs replacing, or the flux capacitor needs the be lubed. When I go to get my car. Another agent got my key and explained further that I have additional warranty if the same issue with the wheel bearings comes back and it's covered. I paid for the wheel alignment and left a happy customer. The new service location is more spacious and clean. The staff were all wearing masks. I think there is still free WiFi and snacks at the waiting area if you don't have a Boo Boo to drive you home. read more

Absolute worst experience of my life dealing with a service department. I was treated like a joke for over 7 months because they were incompetent & could not determine the cause of "electrical issues" that developed out of nowhere (a manufacturer defect), strung me along, replaced the car piece by piece. Im in my 7th loaner vehicle as my '21 Forester has been on their lot since September, with the issues first being addressed in June, to no avail. I'm a single mother with two young kids & have been told over & over again that "its my opinion" that the car is unsafe despite the fact that EVERYTIME the check engine light comes on, the trajectory is always the same-exterior lights remain on and the windows stop opening, but this is not a safety concern. Absolute disgrace how this service department all the way up to the executive level handled this situation. They treated me as an uninformed customer, minimized how incapable they were of addressing said issues, used my car as a "test dummy" & prolonged this entire experience well beyond what is considered reasonable & acceptable. Completely egregious& horrendous, disgusting representation of this "family brand" I used to hold with highest esteem & regard. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. DO NOT GO HERE TO GET YOUR CAR SERVICED. I told them my fiancé used to be a mechanic for Acura and they still decided to "try" to rob me. He ended up calling up the parts department to find out how much the parts are for the things that I got done (an oil change & changing of the wiper blades) and then all of a sudden they realized they overcharged me $50. My bill was $200 when it was suppose to be $150. Then on top of that they showed no remorse for messing up, seemed annoyed that they got caught and I had to drive all the way back there to get my refund. (They probably saw my NY plates and thought I wouldn't of came back for my refund but little did they know I was staying in Jersey for the weekend.) Not sure if they tried to rob me because I'm a female and they probably thought they could get away with it or maybe because I'm colored. Will never return to this location. This dealership is a fraud going on in the open. I had a deal with them to purchase a new forester . Price agreed and deposit placed. The day of the pickup the price was increased by 2500. I did not buy from them. They refused to refund my deposit which I got cancelled from my credit card company. My girlfriend took her forrester for service. For a 3 year service they charged her over $ 1000. I cannot imagine this level of fraud is permitted wide open . Shocking to read the reviews of so many people. GREAT EXPERIENCE! How many people can say that about buying a car?? Late Friday evening, January 5th I wrote to Open Road Subaru in Union NJ asking if they still had a couple of 2023 Forrester's in stock that we were looking at on their site. First thing the next morning I had a call back from Johnny who confirmed they were still in stock. We took a ride down and Johnny was WONDERFUL helping us. He is the epitome of "calm, cool, and collected" which I think is needed to sell cars. So incredibly polite and knowledgeable. He even gave us his cell number to call if we had any questions--before and after the sale (might have been the wrong move on his part!!). We were undecided between 2 models (one a little cheaper than the other) and Johnny never felt the need to "push" the more expensive model on us. Just told us the differences and let us decide on our own. We picked the Forrester up the following week and again Johnny was fantastic- showing us the "ins and outs" of the new car (14 years since we bought a car so needless to say, he had A LOT to explain to us). Of course, by the time we got home, we immediately had a question (we always do!!) and called Johnny who helped us out. He even called back the next day to make sure we did not have more questions and again made sure we knew it was ok to call him whenever we had any questions. We called him back a couple of other times, and he always picked up his phone, or called us back- stuck to his word. The service department at Open Road Subaru is horrendous to deal with. I had several issues with my car, which resulted in them holding on to it for nearly a month before they were able to fix it, causing tons of stress on my end, as they didn't have a loaner car for me until the repairs were nearly done. They also sent me home without fixing the problem! The service center is nearly impossible to communicate with, they rarely answer the phone. I called to inquire about an service light that went on in my car, and they informed me that there was actually a recalled part in my vehicle and it had arrived so they had it in stock and could replace it. So I took the morning off from work to go in and have the replacement part put in and then when I got there, they had no idea what I was talking about, the part wasn't there, they never got it. They checked who I'd spoken with on the phone and they said, "Oh, that's the service call center, they never know what they're talking about" and then shrugged. I HATE THIS PLACE. read more

It took four times going to fix A/C in the car. Still ended up with water on passenger side because they didn't clean the water exit pipe. The costumer service is very bad. After 3 hours in the dealership and negotiating my best price I requested the Subaru Military Discount Program $500 cash incentive. I provided my military ID card and the sales manager Fernando Ortiz Jr said you're not going to get that and questioned my service. I asked for program details so I could provide the necessary proof. They adjusted the offer and I could immediately see that the salesman and Fernando Ortiz were not happy. Then suddenly they told me the car was not available after 2 hours of negotiating. That the car was sold even though it was still in the computer as available. Then corrected himself while he waived the folder in front of my face and said someone put a deposit 12/23. They then offered to sell me several different higher priced cars instead with the increased costs. I called them sneaky and shady with their bait and switch and Fernando Ortiz said he wouldn't sell me a car and told me to leave. Accused me of harassing the salesman. When I went to take a picture for when I contact the BBB, Open Road Subaru General Manager, and Open Road CEO, and Subaru he snatched the papers and crumbled them up. I'm sure they have video in the dealership so that he can be observed being rude and angrily slamming papers on the desk in front of me. BAIT AND SWITCH! Open Road checked my credit 8 times. 4 times because the Subaru system was down so they ran it through their Chevy dealership, then another 4 times when Subaru was back up and running. When I asked them not to run it again because it would ruin my credit rating I was told that I didn't understand how credit worked and that it would not affect my rating because all inquiries were from the same company. Of course, they were wrong and 2 years later I am still suffering from a 100 point drop in my rating due to too many inquires. I love my Outback but will never deal with Open Road again. read more

Writing this on behalf of my grandmother, Roberta, who purchased a used 2016 Subaru Forester at the beginning of March 2023. We have owned the car for 4 months and have had problems since two weeks after we bought it. To start, the car almost instantly needed a major transmission repair of a valve body replacement. Thankfully it was just under 100,000 miles and the warranty was able to cover the repair, however, there are still many uncovered issues. The car was sold to us, without our knowledge, needing an oil change and the service department couldn't even tell us when the oil change was last done. Even after "detailing" performed while the sale was being finalized the car was dusty and clearly not tended to. We even found the paperwork in the glove box including the name and address of the previous owner. Although we were told the car had not been in any accidents it is clear the front bumper has been completely repainted when you compare the color to the paint on the rest of the car, raising suspicion that it has not been accident-free. I've included a picture of that below as well. We were supposed to have been given a CarFax report before we left and it still has yet to be given to us after mentioning it to representatives at least three times. Not a good look. In May the AC went out on the car. Of course, this is not a covered repair and a costly one at that. Initially the AC compressor clutch was going to be replaced as a remedy because the old clutch was absolutely disintegrated and causing a burning smell, starting issues, and electrical issues. I've included the picture of the clutch below in its incredibly dangerous condition. After the new clutch was put in we've come to find that the whole AC Compressor needs to be replaced and the new clutch is already being damaged from the failed system. At this point, especially with the CarFax being withheld, it is clear that Open Road Subaru sold us a car with way too many problems at way too high of a price. The only reason for two stars given is because the service department was great being able to provide a loaner and convenient flexibility with drop off and pick up when the car had transmission work. On top of the issues previously mentioned we've also had instances where the fuel gauge did not properly work after filling the tank as well as random appearances by the airbag light indicating the system isn't working properly. This vehicle has been nothing but a headache and we are extremely worried about what other issues could arise after such a bad start to ownership. Don't expect Open Road Subaru to make it right. read more

Every dealership I have talked to has been transparent about their pricing and markups over the phone. Except this dealer. They assure you we will work out a deal and to come down. The one star is for the salesman Steve so thank you. But when all of that was over I see 2 1/2 hours into the sale all the sudden we had to wait for the finance guy. Oh OK so I sat I even took a nap. But after I waited an hour in the room with a bunch of other customers to people sneeze I woke up from my nap and I didn't wanna wait anymore he told us we were next and then that was another hour until we went to sign the papers. So that was two hours of sitting in a crowded room with strangers with a mask on it was difficult to breath. Finally once we went into The finance guy Steve's office he looks at me and goes "what?" So I told him you're not doing us a favor and how is that anyway to speak to a customer after you made them wait two hours I saw him he was on his phone he was eating food he was taking a pair of scissors and clipping his fingernails. I bought a used 2011 Legacy from this dealership in 2016. I had no issues scheduling service until now. I get that COVID has required changes but these are technical and human issues that weren't problems before and could and should be fixed. 1) When scheduling an online service appointment, you don't get any kind of confirmation. This worked in 2019, not sure why it just stopped in 2020. You don't get an email, a call, or a text. I booked service for one day, didn't get a confirmation, waited 72 hours, then scheduled another service appointment. There was no way to check if I had anything booked already. 2) There's no direct number for service, no extension, no menu, etc. You call the dealership and the receptionist transfers you. I called, got transferred, and the call got disconnected. I called again, got transferred, and after a few rings it went back to the front desk, where it rang and rang again. It's 2020 - there's no reason why I can't call the department directly or get a voice menu with prompts. 3) The service booking system said to call for a loaner if you had requested one. When I called to book one, I was told that all loaners were booked for the week. Why can't the status of the loaner be booked with the service call? They can track dropoff slots for service, surely they can track pickup slots for loaners. 4) The shuttle service stops at 3 PM. You can drop off cars until 6:45 PM. How many people can get out of work to take a car for service during the daytime? 5) The lady who answered the service phone line was really brash - when she told me that all loaners were taken up (point 3 above) she didn't mention when any would be available again until I asked about next week. She also told me about the shuttle timing as if I had kicked her puppy - it really sounded like she was stressed out. I don't expect to be treated like a VIP when I call to schedule my car to get fixed but getting snapped at due to factors not offered online really doesn't help. I get it if someone's stressed out and having a rough morning but I'd much rather have been put on hold so she could have taken a second to circle back. Given Subaru reliability and the dealership's ongoing track record, I'm definitely buying my next car at any other dealership. read more

Most people are probably hesitant of car dealerships in general, for obvious reasons, and in my past experience, for good reason. Since the bar is set so low by most places, it really doesn't take much for a car dealer to get a good review, at least in my opinion. The location of Open Road Subaru is not bad, right on Route 22 in Union, pretty easy to get to no matter where you're coming from. Whether you're here to buy or for service, the waiting area is actually not that bad of a place to be. Water, coffee, sodas, and light snacks are here for the taking. A lot better than some other dealers. This place actually isn't that big inside, but there seems to be enough room for the amount of people that come by here. As far as I can tell, this place is run pretty well, meaning I don't believe that they pull most of the typical old-fashioned "stealership" practices that most people are afraid of. If you come in here knowing what you want and are knowledgeable, you should have a good experience. I purchased a used vehicle here, which obviously means it could come with a few issues here and there, which I would expect. I let the used car manager here know within the 30-day purchase window, and it was taken care of relatively painlessly, again, in a manner that was better than I expected. read more

Deceptive practices. My first car purchased there was a new 2017 Subaru Forester Premium. Recently I bought a used 2020 same make and model. Undercut my trade-in value of 2017 due to 2 previous accidents (body work only). Told by salesman, assessor and financial manager that the dealership would not be able to sell my 2017 because of this. Two weeks later, the 2017 is listed for sale by Open Road at greater than $8000 over the trade-in given to me AND the 2 accidents are listed! I immediately contacted the dealership and was ignored. It wasn't until I contacted Subaru of America that the dealership responded. Management continued to deny that I was undercut on the trade-in and refused to tell me the price that the car sold for. Go elsewhere. I understand that car dealerships need to make a profit but this was blatant deception and outright lies. My 6+ years of loyalty to this dealership is over. read more

What a Waste of time. Went in to buy a used car priced online for one price(16.8k), and when finally getting to the paperwork they added 4000$ dollars in fees totaling 21k. SOOOOOOO these are the fees they were trying to charge me...Restoration fee $1695, maintenance fee $1000, DOC fee $799, etching fee $399. The sales man was decent, I tried to get them too knock off the restoration fee and lower the doc fee. And after me asking the car salesman, he rebutted with, see how nice this dealership is, we have to pay to keep the lights on, hahaha. He was then like do you want to wait for your husband.....um no sir... I am paying for the car not my husband so there's that... He then went to talk to his "manager," when he came back he offered me a 200$ deduction on the restoration fee. 200$? okay. Finally I was like no thanks sir. Your deal is not a deal and your online add is false advertising. When I was walking out the door, I heard the Unprofessional Manager obnoxiously laughing with the salesman behind the counter. Wife and I bought 2 cars there in April. They totally give you attention before you sign the dotted line but you're at their mercy after that. We had some questions and concerns after purchase and called our sales consultant Tiffany. If she did answer the phone, she'd didn't know the answer and said she would get back to you later, which she didn't. Following our purchase Tiffany said we would be receiving a survey by email and if we gave her all 10's the manager would be sending a free oil change voucher. She also noted that she was not supposed to mention the survey or ask for 10's across the board. Well we took the survey and never got an oil change voucher. Also good luck calling the dealer and having someone pickup. If I have any issues with this car I'll will be bringing it elsewhere for service. read more

I went to open road Subaru with really no expectations. I knew I wanted a Subaru because it is a great vehicle. I was very interested in the 2018 Crosstrek. I met with Raphael Medy. He was affable, and very professional. . I test drove the Crosstrek and wanted it immediately! I was torn between a manual & the automatic. They didn't have my vehicle on premise and they told me one week. There were a few minor hiccups and I was directed to Jesus Guzman sales manager. He was amazing and really stepped up to help me get the car I wanted! Even in the color I was so longing to have! The khaki grey! Which was a limited color and on back order. I found both of these men to be outstanding! They both gave me their cells and encouraged me to reach out with any and all questions or concerns. They were great at trouble shooting my issues and problems and walked me through everything! There were a few minor issues which are bound to happen when buying a vehicle. At one point I thought I might just cancel the deal. But Jesus and the new manager really came through for me and we met each other halfway! I was more than pleased with the outcome! The staff is friendly, courteous and helpful . When I went to pick up my car. Everything went very smoothly and efficiently . I met with Gregory Nordtviet. He finished up all my paperwork with me. It was painless, didn't take too long and I really felt he was a caring, not out to try and get me purchase anything more than I was comfortable with. This by far has been my best car purchasing experience in my life! Buying a car can be stressful, and it's hard to know if you can trust the sales representatives or dealership. I came here with my family so my wife could see inside a vehicle. The time was 5:50. I asked the salesmen to allow us to see the inside for the third row. He said no because they close at 6pm. I said, I have 10 minutes still. He asked me if I can come back tomorrow. I said absolutely not. I will never buy a car there.
