The salesman that was helping my friend needs to have a little more training. He did not know anything about cars and as soon as my friend came in he said lets run your credit and we pick the car for you. I have never been to a dealership where they run your credit score first before you browse their car inventory. Why would they pick the car for my friend? Are they buying the car or is my friend buying the car? The salesman kept going to the back and said he needs to speak with the manager and was wasting our time. If he did not know anything then the manager should have come and spoken with us. They picked out a Honda Civic for my friend which had 11 major recalls, they patched up the holes in the tires, and they did not even know that it was in a car accident on the driver side. Overall: This dealership is one of the worse in the city. The customer service is horrible, and they are not knowledgeable of the cars. I suggest this dealership to provide training to all staff members and even the manager because this kind of customer service is not good for business. read more

I was researching a new car using Costco Auto Program and that is how I ended up with this Honda dealership in Edison. First of all, we may all agree that car dealerships are all about drama and bullshits. I trusted Costco Auto Program, hoping that this could substantially minimize these dramas. To make the story short, I do not have bad impressions on my sales rep. I understand that he had to play some drama but as long as it is not too crazy, I can live with that; I just wanted to make sure that the final number is within a reasonable range. It was generally okay and I did try to give them a good Google review (as he wish), mentioning the sales rep's name etc. I think it is basically not false. Well, I found out later that this dealership has a total different satisfaction level on Yelp compared to that of Google review. Very interesting. Today, I went to the dealership the second time to pick up the license plate and registration for my new car. I asked some questions and I was upset about the one of the manager. I am giving a very low star for this cocky, arrogant person. Now I have absolutely no reason to recommend this dealership based on what happened today. Here it goes: I opted for so called "VIN ETCH" when I purchased the car on week ago. Today my question for them was: where can I see the etched VIN number on my car? Do you have documents/paperwork etc. The manager asked me whether I purchased the extended warranty program and my answer was nope. He then said since you do not purchased it and that is why you do not have paperwork. WTF, are you nuts or do you think I am? Do not bullshit me please. What the logic behind all this crap? My second question was that is there a tray that comes with the 2026 CRV Sport-L Hybrid in the center console (armrest); he checked the demo car right on the scene and replied no, "You did not buy the top trim level (so that you do not have that), you can buy from our accessory...... Come on, yes, I know Honda does sell the small tray for ~15 USD (still over-priced). If the tray does not come with the new car from Honda's factory then I do not blame you for this. But your answer to me is that I did not buy the highest Sport Touring trim level? If I were you, I would simply say sorry that Honda factory does not include that when it ships. Be respectful, okay? I just spent $40K at your store, is it difficult to communicate with your customer just like an educated person? That piece is 10~15 bucks only, if you are really smart guy/businessman, you could offer me that piece then I would be extremely pleased (I DO NOT EXPECT THIS TO HAPPEN AT ALL, I can afford it on my own). Somehow you simply told me that I did not buy the most expansive level so that I do not have this 10 dollar tray... ... If possible, I would like to recommend this case to Harvard Business Review. This is an impressive move to speak to a customer. You are really good. To be fair, many other folks in this dealership did interact with me professionally like a normal person would do and I do appreciate that. This dealership is an absolute joke. We purchased a used vehicle and they have been nothing but a headache and shady with their business practices. First off, their used car manager lost the second key to the car we were buying, not a huge deal. They also told us there was a second key the first time we saw the car. But they found it a week after we took the car home (we live far away and did not want to drive back for their mistake). They initially refused to mail it to us, then after talking they insisted that we have to pay for them to mail it due to their screw up. We asked for the second key when we were there and they didn't have it. I don't see how it's our responsibility to pay for this. They also mentioned that we should be grateful that they even found the key. They eventually agree to mail it to us but found a sneaky way to charge us the fee. They subtracted it from the DMV refund they owed us and probably hoped we wouldn't notice. Well we did. This is the absolute worst dealership experience I have ever had and I will never recommend anyone ever do business with these shady clowns. I was hesitant to take my '25 Honda Ridgeline here, but after the horrible experience I had at another Honda Dealership, figured things couldn't get any worse. So in July 2025, I ordered three accessories from Open Road Honda, and the prices were great compared to other dealerships, and the quote they gave me to install them was great compared to other dealerships. They installed the bed cover, body side moldings, and front and rear splash guards - did an excellent job, and not a single issue whatsoever. I was very pleased with this dealership. I will likely use them now for all of the maintenance on my Ridgeline. read more

This review is intended for one of the service advisors for extended warranties. First, I have been a loyal customer to ORH-Edison since 2000. Clearly, I've been treated well in the past, but unfortunately not this time around. I understand that warranties are important, so that's why I was diligently following up for a quote. I'm appalled at how I was spoken to recently. I received the quote and simply asked to hold off, as I need to go over my finances, it is the end of the year! She was not happy to hear this, perhaps she needs to hit a sales quota? She nastily continued asking what am I going to do, wait for it to break down and be stuck at higher cost? (Great confidence on the mechanics of your vehicles btw!) There is a nicer and more appropriate way to speak with customers, especially those who've been loyal to the company. My financial means and how I choose to do my business is solely my responsibility, not her attitude or opinions. After I dismissed her negative comments, she said that she's deleting the quote and hung up on me. I hope that the phone call was recorded and she can be held accountable for her actions. If only I could give them a zero rating, I would. I brought the car in for A138 maintenance and of course they found other things wrong with the car which is fine. My former mechanic had just retired and I had no choice but to bring it to this Open Road Honda. I really don't like this dealership . Not professional at all And here is the problem. I took home the car thinking that they inspected everything, the next day my batteries died. Luckily, I was at the senior center and had called triple A and they helped with replacing the batteries. I went back to the dealership to complain. After paying an exorbitant amount of money for maintenance, they should have checked the batteries. The consultant that I was dealing with said they can't do anything about. Batteries died all the time. What I was pointing out if they really did the multipoint inspection which I believe will include the batteries, they would have suggested that I should replace it. Of course I would have agreed to it even if it will cost me an arm and a leg. I am saying that the inspection and maintenance was not done properly or it's not up to par. I don't typically write reviews while still in the presence of either the establishment or specific person, but this one called for it. My wife had been in the market for a new vehicle and she's a number cruncher by nature and by practice. She did all the work, went to several different dealerships just to peruse the inside and out of the vehicle, to see what incentives certain facilities were offering, then, ultimately providing her expectations on pricing. My wife absolutely did her homework and it paid off ten-fold when she met with Erik Gomez. Erik was respectful, not pushy, but attentive and energetic. He came off as someone who wasn't trying to make a deal, but instead, as someone wanting to see my wife happy and excited about the experience of getting a new car. Erik was very responsive and even helped us out with silly questions about the vehicle in the wee hours of the evening. I don't know if it just happens to be his way of salesmanship or if he was just naturally personable, but he's the guy I would absolutely go back to when I need a new car, or my kids. This is a family oriented guy, who drives the cars he sells and gets his kicks off your happiness. Cars are not cheap, but they don't have to break your bank either. We arrived at a number that worked for both parties, and even with the finance manager, there were no additional surprises. I value EDISON HONDA and if I were you, don't bother shopping around. Either come see Erik right off the bat, or get one or two numbers elsewhere and bring it to him....he'll beat it or counter it with some add-ons you hadn't considered. I went to test drive a used civic sport manual tonight. After searching quite a while to find the car, I was asked to back the car out of a difficult parking space, as the salesman didn't know how to drive a manual. It was a little tough, as I wasn't used to the clutch, but got it out. I was hoping the salesperson was going to just let me take the car for a test ride, but he got in the car and proceeded to tell me every turn I had to take . The actual test drive route covered about 1/2 mile and I was instructed to bring the car back into the lot. I never got the car out of second gear. I've known about open road honda for years. I purchased a civic si from them maybe 10 years ago. As you can see, lots of people have some not so great experiences here, so I tend to avoid this dealership, but they had the car in stock, and the dealership is only 5 minutes from my house, so I thought I'd give it a try. When I was turning down their "best" offer, the sales said to me, you came all the way from NY, you not gonna just leave without making a deal right? I only left 1 star because I had to. It should have been 0. I've been bringing my car Open Road Honda service in Edison since I bought the car back in 2008. Their service used to be pretty good, and because they have factory trained mechanics who are familiar with the vehicles it gives you a feeling of comfort. But this last time I've had the worst experience ever dealing with any car repair in my entire life. I dropped the car on 4/18 for an oil change the Service Advisor Mira called me and said the brakes were low and suggested that they also work on the suspension. She said they can return the suspension back to normal. I agree and pick up the car when it's done and notice now the car is pulling to the left whenever I brake. I bring it back to service and they said they will tighten the suspension a bit more and it should be good. I drive off again, and immediately notice problem is still there. I texted Mira and she called me back and said she will have to charge me a diagnostic fee to see why the car is suddenly pulling to the left. I'm somewhat confused by all of this and asked why you are charging a diagnostics fee when this problem wasn't there when I dropped my car off and you just fixed the suspension. Her response was I don't know if the car was doing that before, because she didn't drive the car. I asked to speak to the manager Kyle and had to leave several voice messages. He finally called me back and said the earliest they can look at the car again (3rd time) was Monday May 1st. I got the impression there was a more experienced tech who was returning on that day, so he wanted him to look at it. I dropped the car off the night before and the next day another service advisor Donna, called me and said the outer Tie Rod was damaged and had to be replaced. I obviously question how could tie rod be damaged when they just fixed the suspension. She didn't know. Once again, I called Kyle. Kyle called me back and asked if Mira told me anything else about the car when I initially picked it up the first time. She didn't mention anything. He said Mira should have mentioned the brake cable was damaged. Again, I question how the brake cable could get damaged after I dropped the car off for repair. He says valet guys might've done it while using the emergency brake. I suspect the tech obviously damaged the brake cable while he was working on the car or maybe they put a damaged broken brake cable from another vehicle, who knows . The fact that neither service advisor mentioned it during the 1st, 2nd or 3rd visit mean they were obviously hiding something. Well, a new brake cable was on back order, and almost impossible to get. It took several more days for them to find a used one from a nearby junkyard. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this Open Road Honda in Edison at all and will try my luck elsewhere. read more

I called them after virtually shopping around at DCH because I figured let me give these guys another chance since they're right in my backyard. I should've never bothered. DCH Academy Honda has a few 2021 Honda Accord Sport SEs advertised for 30K and under. Their online calculator let me adjust the pricing for a lease - I'm looking for $0 down sign and drive and monthly payments for under $300. I also have a lease that has two remaining payments of approximately $360 - one of which is due this Thursday 4/1. Honestly I don't see a deal happening before Thursday so I only have one payment. When someone called me back they said its most likely doable but let's see. Courteous and didn't seem to be shocked by what I was looking for - bottom line they didn't make me feel inferior because of what I was looking for. They knew how to present themselves professionally and provide good customer service. Not with Open Road. First time I called one of their 3 listed numbers no one picked up. I get it - they could've been busy but how do they not have a receptionist or two to handle calls? This is probably one reason they don't have the market share in the area. I made some lunch and decided to give them another shot - got a hold of someone and they transferred me. Got to the second person and told her I was looking for a lease quote then she put me on hold. A few seconds later she comes back and I tell her my situation (listed above). Do you know how they say you can tell when a person is smiling through the phone? I recently purchased a certified 2018 Honda Civic EX from this dealership. My salesperson, Joseph, was amazing but everything else was a hot mess. It took the dealership over 4 hours to process my checks before I signed my paperwork. Once everything was solidified and they gave me my keys, I realized that the car had NO GAS. One of the employees went to the local gas station to fill it up. I also noticed that the tire pressure was extremely low and the batteries for both of my keys were basically dead within 24 hours. After spending thousands of dollars at this dealership for this vehicle, these aspects should have been checked and fixed before I drove the car off the lot. I have a Honda and I've gotten it serviced at several dealerships in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Open Road's service department is typically slower, ruder, and more expensive than competing dealerships, and their sales department is nothing special. Coast Honda, in Sea Girt, is has the best (and most honest) dealership in the area. When I last had my car serviced at Open Road, I was openly lied to, then passed off to a manager when I pointed it out. That manager was incredibly rude and condescending, did not resolve the issue, and decided to just stop talking to me as a way of ending our interaction. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Slime. Brought my car in after specifying the exact reason and TSB, waited two hours for them to try and upsell me on everything BUT the part I went in for. They then had the audacity to tell me that the part wasn't even in stock and that I'd have to wait until the next day for it, then told me that the repair for the part in question would be over $400. I found the parts through an online honda parts distributor for $20 and I will be doing the TSB repair myself. As for the other BS, $65 for a $12 air filter, $108 for $12 cabin filter, $69 for an oil change (that I had done myself 3 days prior), $180 for a brake fluid flush... your service department is despicable and you should all be ashamed of yourselves. read more

Bought a new Accord here over the weekend. Overall I was happy with the dealership. I felt that we got a fair deal, and everyone we worked with was professional and polite (2 sales reps, 1 sales manager and 1 finance rep). Pros: at the time of this writing they had a good selection of inventory, getting to test drive was fairly quick and painless, willingness to negotiate a bit, complimentary spring water and nice waiting area for service department. Bonus points for a clean bathroom Cons: location is a bit rough being right off the highway and test driving out of that parking lot is enough to give you a few grey hairs, they have a small parking lot with little inventory on site and their overflow lot is quite a distance which made the process longer than I would have liked. Overall these are minor things. Don't be put off by some of the negative reviews. It's hard for any car dealership to get decent ratings, after all, there is very little trust in the car buying process. You can't go to a car dealership and expect they're going to say, "hi! Would you like to know our rock bottom price? Here it is!"... No.... The way to have a good experience is to do a little research ahead of time, have a clear idea of what you want, and politely but firmly ask for it. So, Jimmy, a disabled senior citizen, has been negotiating with a sales rep at Open Road Honda in Edison for a week on a Lease for a 2020 Accord LX. The amount due at signing and the monthly Lease payments, term, and length were settled upon. The ad online says 100% ONLINE PURCHASE. So, then, why was he (at high Covid risk) REQUIRED to show up there in person? I'll tell you why. So they would have an opportunity to jack up the price in several different ways while they would try to hold him captive. The first was, "There are dealer-installed options that must be covered." So, why wasn't he told this the 15 times he asked the sales rep to confirm the out of pocket amount due at signing on this particular car, with an exact VIN number? He walked out. The sales manager phoned him 5 minutes later willing to give him the original offer that was on the paperwork, and the dealership would "eat the $1,290." Jimmy told him to have a nice meal but he no longer will do business with them because they outwardly lied - once about the "100% online purchase" and second, about the cost being the cost with no other fees. Trust must be earned, and sales manager, John burned that bridge. Even their website clearly advertises a complete online deal with the car delivered to the customer. With sales, in general, being so sluggish these days, shouldn't dealerships be bending over backwards to make sales -- and stop the underhanded shenanigans? It's disgusting that Jimmy has money in hand, excellent credit, and yet he can't buy/lease a car at Open Road without getting screwed in a variety of ways. Quickly changes the subject. So someone doesn't have their facts straight. Wasted 3 hrs of my Friday evening. When we spoke of ability to get car from other dealer and out money down (non refundable deposit), didn't seem to like the fact that I would want a condition of 3 weeks to acquire car otherwise I have right of refund. Wanted to be open ended. Seemed also dismissive about competitors offering unlimited car wash and oil changes for life of ownership. Just wanted to ignore that whole aspect. And policy of adding that etching and coating to every car seems like a gimmick just to get another grand. It seems silly that you would acquire from another dealer... that you didn't have in stock.. but force a customer to get that and pay extra for a dealer installed feature. I've been here for servicing, fixing re-calls, and most recently car test driving and browsing. My husband and I had been talking a long time about upgrading our Civic Si as I put many miles on it. And this year felt like the right time to explore our options. Nowadays, it's super easy to do research online, but you have to actually test drive the car in person. It's the way to go! Last Saturday evening, we stopped in to Open Road and man, it was packed!! So many families and such. The first thing we see when walking in is the Beautiful Civic Type R. It's absolutely gorgeous and a must see for any Honda enthusiast. Anyway, we were there for my hubby to test drive a Civic Si and look at the Civic Sport. Mike C. was assigned to us and as busy as they were on Saturday, he took the time to get us the 4 door sedan for us to test drive. Loved how it drove! Monday we had an appointment for negotiating. We were able to get the car in the color we wanted and spent a few hours getting all the paperwork ready. Mike was professional, upfront, and honest which I appreciate. I get a little emotional when it comes to my cars, but I trust that someone will appreciate it just as much as we did. Attempting to buy a car from Open Road Honda was truly one of the most horrible experiences I've ever had in my entire life. They offered me the lowest price around, so I traveled ~3 hours to get there. I got there a bit late. We test drove the car. They give me their price. Suddenly it's $1400 higher than what I was told over the phone because of added "packages." I didn't ask for any packages nor was there any mention of them before this point. I ask them to remove the parts, and they tell me they just won't charge me for them. When they come back, they've discounted them by less than half. We go back and forth a bunch more times; they add a $700 "documentation fee." The average in NJ is somewhere around $250. It's becoming later and I'm becoming frustrated; they're winning. A fight has broken out across the other side of the dealership between a family and what looked like the general manager. "Get out. You're not welcome back here. Get out of my building" he shouted to the man, his wife and their young daughter. I finally give in to a price higher than I was hoping for. This is where things took a turn for the worst. They take me over to the finance guy. He talks ridiculously fast, it's late, I'm tired, and what he was saying was making zero sense. He got me what was supposedly a good APR for my financing: 2.9%. Yet somehow, the monthly payment is almost $100 higher than what I had previously calculated based on the loan I expected to take out. He's telling me to just take it because the lower APR is the cheaper option. But I'm straight up looking at a loan price calculator at the same loan amount with TRIPLE the APR he has and it's still cheaper per month. I asked over and over why his was higher per month despite the lower APR. He never was able to explain it to me. The bundled warranty was only $2k on top of the loan, even with that added his price was still far more than what I should've been paying. They were almost certainly trying to scam me. I walked out. It was so late and I was so tired. They berated me. "What the hell did we stay late for?" "I could've been home an hour ago." They asked when I would be coming back, I said tomorrow. "This guy isn't coming back tomorrow" with an eye roll. "He's all over the place" they said about me. I straight up walked into the parking lot and cried. I've never been treated so poorly in my life. I traveled 3 hours back home, went to a dealer upstate the next day and had one of the most pleasant experiences of my life and bought the same car from them immediately. My '09 Civic's airbag inflator got recalled so I scheduled an appt for replacement here based on the good reviews on Google. Naturally, no car dealerships got good reviews on Yelp. Looking to upgrade in the next few months so figured I'd find a reliable dealership nearby. Scheduling with Holly was easy enough, though it would have been nice if she mentioned that they weren't actually open on Sundays when I said I'd pick up my car then. Even if you're right on time for your service appt, be prepared to wait in line to meet with a service consultant. When I went to pick up my car, there was a long wait at the cashier. She couldn't tell me where my car was, except that it was "in the back by Service". Make sure you have someone drive you around - I would have been walking around for ages otherwise. Finally found it in a back corner, BLOCKED IN BY ANOTHER CAR. I should mention that I called earlier that day to give them a heads up that I was picking up, just to avoid this situation. When I flagged down an employee to try and find the other car's key, he didn't want to bother, so he did a million point turn in my car and eventually got it out. His defense was that this isn't one of their [new] cars. Ok, so it was a serviced car that one of the Open Road Service team chose to park right behind my car. It couldn't have been a customer's car because this was on the opposite side of their Sales building, 2 hrs after Service closed. Needless to say, I'll be buying my next car elsewhere. read more

Beware, if you are a young woman, these sales managers will try to take advantage of you by belittling your knowledge and undermining your needs. I went in to see if I could get out of my car lease early. I was paying a ridiculous high price on a 2016 Honda Accord. When I told the sales representative the price I wanted to pay, she called her sales managers. One of the sales managers told me that I was pulling numbers out of a hat and that the monthly price I wanted to pay was simply impossible. The second sales manager was no help either, he was being extremely pushy about the "deal" they could work with me. I wish I could remember their names, but in all, I wasted 4 years with that horrible dealership. Never again, Open Road will never have my business or the business of any of my friends. They're a not genuine and not trustworthy. They scheduled me for an appointment today and refused to take my vehicle for service after visiting them. My car was serviced by them few months ago and went on the same issue again since they've not properly done there work. They refused to service my vehicle today because i responded to the Honda Survey genuinely. Donna Scala (Service Advisor) don't know how to talk to the customers...They do exactly opposite to the Honda's core principals.Totally disappointed with her the way she handled me. I waited for one hour to talk to the Service Manager to see if he could be of anyhelp. Finally the Neil Wood (Service Manager/Director) came after one hour and behaved in same way. The manager/director role is to address the issues, but he does exactly opposite and he's of no help. He said he can't have my vehicle inspected. They wasted my time. Totally not a good place if you want your vehicles to be serviced good. On the other hand, I had issue with the sales person. They took the deposit, ran the credit check and after a week, they started saying the car color is not available. Not a good place to shop the vehicles either Please think twice before going to this place. They don't even deserve a single star. Thought I was going to buy a car here. I explained that I was looking and we are probably going to buy an Accord. I explained to the salesman I was going to go home and finish my research - that's my process. He pushed a little but respected what I told him. Got my Honda CRV here last year, honestly I was kind of desperate so I didn't shop around too much... they had the car I was looking for and I was told one price by the person and after I was done talking to the sales person I was brought over to the finance manager or whoever he was... kinda rude, first he told me my credit was bad so I would have to pay more cause I canceled a credit card ten years ago... first of all I know my credit score and I know it's good... then When he realized I wasn't willing to pay the extra 1-2k more he said cause Of my credit it would be 500 more than the price I was told on the phone ... honestly if I didn't just start a new job as a night shift nurse during the pandemic I would have walked right out... but I heard inventory was low everywhere and it would be brutal getting off a 12 hour shift and having to train or bus an hour home when it would only take me 10 minutes driving ... so I paid the extra 500 more... recently driving on the highway my sunroof cracked out of no where and researching online I read that it's a known Honda issue contacting the service manager and sending pics and letting them know the roof of my car is fine... nothing fell on it in the middle of a highway ... of course the glass looks bent ... broken glass doesn't stay straight especially when I live in NYC and there's speed bumps and stuff on the streets and if something did fall on it it the glass would be inside the shade part of the car most of it glass fell off as I was driving. So I'm driving a leased Civic with that is legally unregistered for 3 weeks now and Mario in finance says "the plates are coming next week" every week. Called him today to follow up and spoke to Mario 2 times for about 5 minutes each time. I wish I had recorded the calls to allow the general manager to listen to his aggressive and appalling behavior. He said I am not being patient and I have not given him ample time to find an alternative solution (loaner car). It's been 3 weeks!! As a customer I don't want excuses and blame shifting, I want a solution! Also left message for the manager on duty, no call back yet! Looks like this is a common issue because my brother also received his permanent plates one week after his temp plates expired.
