Warung - Venison rendang + jasmine rice

I wanted to like Warung much more than I did…read more Knowing I couldn't find Indonesian restaurants that easily back home, I booked a table at this Nordic influenced spot on a Thursday evening. The place drew a crowd and had an inviting atmosphere. Settling in, I went with a set meal (lumpia + venison rendang + rhubarb spring rol) and a "Jamulicious" cocktail. The drink would be the highlight of the meal: an excellent mix of whiskey + whipped palm sugar + ginger + galangal + honey + lemongrass + lemon juice + flaked coconut. The lumpia was unexpectedly breaded and deep fried, filled with mushrooms. The filling lacked much flavor, though the salad on the side had a pleasant chili dressing. The rendang was tender and fragrant without much of a kick, served with jasmine rice and a few small bits of vegetable. The rhubarb spring roll had potential (sweet/tart rhubarb filling in a light and crispy wrapper) but the creme fraiche sauce didn't add the right balance and the berries served with it were ice cold

Disclaimer: I'm an Indonesian…read more I'm really torn in giving this review. One part - I am really happy that there is an Indonesian restaurant in Stockholm, albeit that it's a fusion one. The other part - there's not much Indonesian about the food apart from the name. We came here for dinner since they're only open for dinner and for a la carte menu these days. A shame, since I was looking forward to trying their lunch menu that had bakso and other interesting Indonesian light dishes. Service was great and the restaurant didn't have many seats, but it has this nice vibe with it that blends Scandi minimalism with ethnic decor that supposed to enhance the Indonesian part of the dining experience. Food: Now here's where it gets interesting. We had ikan kari (fish curry) and rendang rusa (moose rendang). It's brilliant that they chose local ingredients to blend with Indonesian spices and it should have worked but the taste was way too mild, I could hardly taste much of it. Rendang rusa would have been a good match, I love rendang and I love moose, so what went wrong? I had no idea. It wasn't rendang that I tasted last night, it was some sort of älggryta to be honest. The ikan kari? Don't get me started - you don't use salmon for curry. Salmon is a fat fish and it's the kind of fish that we don't have in Indonesia, so it was wrong in the beginning. They could have used torsk/cod for that. The only dish that good was the fish perkedel, which was also strange since we never use fish in a perkedel, but it was strong and spicy as it should be. Overall verdict: The food was too mild to be called Indonesian (and I'm not even talking about the chilli spiciness, just spices in general). It was good, but it wasn't Indonesian and calling it so was some sort of a misnomer. I know that this restaurant is serving fusion food, but they did say that fusion is that they're using local ingredients combined with Indonesian spices, and unfortunately I hardly detected any Indonesian in those dishes.

Scandinavian Leather Men is the hottest, most action packed leder site compared to all the other…read moreScandinavian major metropolitan areas of Reykjavik, Oslo, Copenhagen, & Helsinki which unfortunately pale in comparison. The Swedes have a feeling of natural, open confidence & assertiveness that seems less pronounced in the other Scandinavian countries possibly because Sweden retained its militaristic spirit up until very modern times. Like in Berlin which also gives off a confidence that is so important for making a hot scene, the milieu at SLM exudes a very playful, experimental willingness to have a good time. It is also a very international scene with many players especially from all over Europe & North America. The first time I went was in the summer of 1993 where I went down a staircase and was met & welcomed by a young moustached member of SLM in a Swedish Navy officer's uniform. The entrance fee was nominal, & there is a bar where you can get good Swedish beer so you can cruise the bar w/ a beer in hand and check out the scene. There are plenty of different spaces to play in for those w/ different fetishes & inclinations. And you don't necessarily have to speak Swedish to join in. Sometimes body language, the look in the eyes, & wearing leder or a police uni speak louder than anything being said eloquently in any language. In 2002 I went down the same set of stairs, but found they had changed the set up enough that I couldn't relate to the way it was before. I suppose SLM changes the interior to keep the site from becoming too familiar & boring. However, the same friendly openness was still in force. I encountered two men from New York City, a bearded Sir & his bearded boy where 3 Americans met respectively 6,000 & 3,000 away from home. Later we accidently met at Drottningholm Royal Swedish Palace, which had a theater much like in the spirit of Teatro Olympico by the classical Renaissance architect, Andrea Palladio, in Vicenza, Italia, so the stars seemed aligned to our meeting. Nothing but good memories of Stockholm from visiting the Swedish Royal Palace, Kunliga Slottet & old town on Gamlastan Island just to the north of SLM. There is sophisticated culture of all different levels, but the happenings at SLM for me were the fondest to remember on my visit to Sverige. I want to thank the volunteer members of SLM who have really set up a great, welcoming space for all who come here. Skål! 5 Yelp stars for exceptional, warm hospitality.

Being a leather and fetish bar it requires dress code by the patrons. For women and straight people interested in BDSM and fetish there are other clubs and bars available. A 12-month membership is 400 SEK, a trial for a month 150 SEK, while a single entry for non-members is 50 SEK. A couple of times SLM hosts open houses where non-members are welcome as well, e.g. around World AIDS Day and during Stockholm Pride. The bar is located in a basement of a house and one has to ring the door to be let in. Wardrobe, bar - everything is run by members. Kudos to them for helping others to enjoy themselves. To some a visit to a BDSM/leather/fetish bar may be perceived a scary and frightening but I have to say that this is one of the friendliest gay places I know in this city. Yes, there is a tough and cruisy attitude but also the possibility to actually talk with someone. I am not a member myself but I am always very delighted when I have gone during the open houses.
