Awesome just awesome. Went on a Sunday for the open mic night. There was a steady stream of musicians, singers and band members. The place was packed and people were nice enough to make room. The staff is ready to serve and help when necessary. There is always something going on here and the friendly atmosphere make it easy to enjoy. Check out the website for a run down of events and enjoy.

Cool and small joint. Band was pretty good. Alcohol is classically expensive. Also if you are not very tall then you probably won't see anything because, let's be honest, the average height in the bar is tall. Times visited: 1

Is Stampen worth it? Totally depends on the night. I ended up going here two nights in a row, and the first night was bleh - the second night fantastic! The great thing about Stampen is of course the live music, but the quality of the bands varies. Friday nights tend to be better than Thursday nights. But, Thursday nights tend to be free, whereas Fridays have a 50kr cover charge. There's an incredible mix of people - everything from Söder hipsters to Östermalm fancy people to old rockers to classy pensioners. And everyone has a good time! The staff are friendly, the drink prices are average. The nachos are AMAZING. Not just chips and salsa - oh no. A massive plate which can be easily shared among 3 or 4 people, brimming with delicious cheese, veggies, guacamole, and more. SO GOOD. When you walk in upstairs the place looks teeny tiny -but there's a whole new world waiting below! I think the downstairs pub section is cosier, quiet enough to talk, and plenty of space, plus another little stage down there. If you like jazz and want to see a concert and then chill and have beer after, definitely try Stampen on a weekend!

Great vibes and great music. Saw a bluegrass band playing Texas jams and Willie Nelson throwbacks. Probably my favorite little bar in Stockholm so far

    Entrance

Visited after dinner at "The hairy pig deli". Awesome walk distance. You will be asked 50kr for the entrance. But they are generous enough to see the performance for a min. Had a house white wine and it felt cheap. However, their live performance is quite impressive and good enough (had been seeking many places in New Orleans and washington D.C.). A little bit loud (bc its small), but great Jazz.

A home for the jazz and blues heads in Stockholm. Cover when I came in on a Sunday was 50sek and the 4 piece was excellent.

The Swedes have a feeling of natural, open confidence & assertiveness that seems less pronounced in the other Scandinavian countries possibly because Sweden retained its militaristic spirit up until very modern times. Like in Berlin which also gives off a confidence that is so important for making a hot scene, the milieu at SLM exudes a very playful, experimental willingness to have a good time. It is also a very international scene with many players especially from all over Europe & North America. The first time I went was in the summer of 1993 where I went down a staircase and was met & welcomed by a young moustached member of SLM in a Swedish Navy officer's uniform. The entrance fee was nominal, & there is a bar where you can get good Swedish beer so you can cruise the bar w/ a beer in hand and check out the scene. There are plenty of different spaces to play in for those w/ different fetishes & inclinations. And you don't necessarily have to speak Swedish to join in. Sometimes body language, the look in the eyes, & wearing leder or a police uni speak louder than anything being said eloquently in any language. In 2002 I went down the same set of stairs, but found they had changed the set up enough that I couldn't relate to the way it was before. I suppose SLM changes the interior to keep the site from becoming too familiar & boring. However, the same friendly openness was still in force. I encountered two men from New York City, a bearded Sir & his bearded boy where 3 Americans met respectively 6,000 & 3,000 away from home. Later we accidently met at Drottningholm Royal Swedish Palace, which had a theater much like in the spirit of Teatro Olympico by the classical Renaissance architect, Andrea Palladio, in Vicenza, Italia, so the stars seemed aligned to our meeting. Nothing but good memories of Stockholm from visiting the Swedish Royal Palace, Kunliga Slottet & old town on Gamlastan Island just to the north of SLM. There is sophisticated culture of all different levels, but the happenings at SLM for me were the fondest to remember on my visit to Sverige. I want to thank the volunteer members of SLM who have really set up a great, welcoming space for all who come here. Skål! 5 Yelp stars for exceptional, warm hospitality.

Being a leather and fetish bar it requires dress code by the patrons. For women and straight people interested in BDSM and fetish there are other clubs and bars available. A couple of times SLM hosts open houses where non-members are welcome as well, e.g. around World AIDS Day and during Stockholm Pride. The bar is located in a basement of a house and one has to ring the door to be let in. Wardrobe, bar - everything is run by members. Kudos to them for helping others to enjoy themselves. To some a visit to a BDSM/leather/fetish bar may be perceived a scary and frightening but I have to say that this is one of the friendliest gay places I know in this city. Yes, there is a tough and cruisy attitude but also the possibility to actually talk with someone. I am not a member myself but I am always very delighted when I have gone during the open houses.

The bar is small, unassuming and finds itself on a street filled with conspicuous, Italian restaurants hosting happy hours for corporate Swedes. The bar is a standout for the drinks, the trademark Swedish charisma and genuine warmth. As a side, shout out to Sweden for having the nicest, most welcoming people in the world. We were given a standing table when we got in, but quickly moved to a couple of seats by the bar. We were one of 8 couples at the bar, so yes, very date night vibes. For our first round of drinks, we got the Easy Martini and Let them Eat Cake. The latter was too sweet for our liking but the Easy Martini had the perfect amount of sweet and tart. Our second round was the winner with the Girl Dinner and their Old Fashioned. The Girl dinner was crafted to perfection and possibly the best version of a martini we've ever had. The old fashioned too, made with WhistlePig 10 years was fantastic. The service cannot be faulted, we profusely thanked the lovely bartender, vowing to crow about it to whoever cares to listen and to be back when we are in Stockholm next.

Felt a bit like a college frat party. Almost skipped it, based on that underwhelming evening, but had to give it another shot late upon an icy and still midnight clear in January. Just amazing...Perfect soundtrack. Sat at the bar to watch the crew, which builds drinks with a bit of panache & showmanship. Started with their Whisky for the Holy Ghost and it was in fact a religious experience: Ghost bourbon, amaretto, Maurin Quina, bitters, salt and served in a chilled corked flask topped with smoke that lingered and really added to the ceremony & taste. My fellow penitents had tasty espresso drinks. It was the second round, however, that was truly memorable. I asked the mad genius behind the bar to concoct an extemporaneous "riff on a Sazerac." Maybe lost in translation, and ended up with more a riff on a vieux carre, but what a riff it was! Michters Rye, calvados in lieu of cognac, a healthy dose of some kind of floral bitters, a few other bitters and a sazeracky absinthe spritz.
