Nomad is a nice venue within an easy walk of the Haymarket. It offers indoor and outdoor seating. I noticed that the outdoor area had thin blankets folded over the backs of several seats. It was a thoughtful touch for those who choose to sit outdoors while it's still warm, then linger into the cooler hours. My wife was very happy with her salad. Our Swedish friend liked her meatballs. I was disappointed with my smoked salmon. I expected an actual smoked salmon filet. I got a generous pile of the kind of smoked salmon one might find at a nice breakfast buffet: a mound of died, floppy fish slices that'd be great on a bagel but not as an entree. Our service was thoughtful and our food arrived promptly. Had I ordered a different dish, we'd easily be in 4-star territory. As things stand, there are too many restaurants in Stockholm for me to return to this one. read more

For those who prefer a quieter meal where you can hold a conversation, I recommend arriving before the band starts or dining inside-- reservations highly encouraged! I started with the Herring Sample, which included three different styles of herring, and for my entrée, I ordered the dish my heart had been yearning for: the Swedish meatballs. As a huge fan of lingonberries over cranberries, I was delighted to see them served on the side. Overall, the meatballs were similar to what I've had back in the States, but as with all European meals, tasted more elevated and wholesome. It felt like a Thanksgiving celebration--Swedish style! This restaurant is located conveniently next to the City Backpackers Hostel in Stockholm, and they specialize in Swedish food served tapas style so it is easy to order a few dishes per person and share them for the variety. As it's quite popular, reservations are highly recommended - we made one just in case to ensure a table seating. There's nice local art around the walls of the restaurant, which adds an additional depth to the experience. We ordered the cabbage, meatballs, reindeer suovas, and the Swedish cheesecake. The cabbage was a sizable amount for a half order, nicely grilled and tossed with a mustard sauce - it is super flavorful! The meatballs are of high quality - I haven't tried IKEA meatballs yet but these are very delicious and satisfying. The reindeer suovas are crackers with smoked reindeer - the meat texture is so tender and chewy, with a hint of smokiness. It is definitely a more unique dish so the suovas and the meatballs would be my picks here if you were to dine solo. The Swedish cheesecake is way different from American cheesecake - give it a try! It's not too sweet, my favorite level of sweetness, but it nonetheless gives a nice cheese flavor to it. read more

It's my first day here in Sweden and I already love it. This restaurant ended my first day nicely. We can choose to sit inside or outside and where ever to our liking and food was amazing. The salmon with potatoes was really different but really good from what I'm used to. I'm used to the savory taste of salmon, but the sauce that was on the side was sweet. The potatoes had dill and fluffy cream. The meatballs with pickles and cranberries were really good too. The gravy sauce was so good I ate it with the house chips. Even with the restaurant being half full, I waited 5 minutes to be seated. Finally, after figuring that I just didn't get the memo that the restaurant was self seating, I go to a table and got yelled at immediately, being told that I needed to wait my turn even though the space is barely full and I'm the only patron waiting. The waitress who yelled at me also served me, and was cold and ungracious. From the kitchen, I caught her staring multiple times, so much so that another waitress brought me a dessert on the house. We had onion sausage, meatballs, and shrimp toast. Shrimp toast (appetizer) had fish roe on top, mayo kind of dressing, and raw red onions. It was a perfect meal for me in itself. The menu is a tad confusing- it has snaps as a side to every item, which I thought is a kind of snack (snaps, crisps... you know that sort of thing). The menu recommends dill snaps as a pair to shrimp toast for 90sek. Well. Appears to be snaps is a dill drink in a 50-ish ml glass. The waitress was cool to swap it back for a bowl of chips. Meatballs came with mashed potatoes and a really tasty gravy (a 10 against IKEA's 3 rating). The onion sausage (thicker hot dog kind, smoky flavor) came with a side of coleslaw (mustardy mayo dressing), picked red onions (okay as a topping on anything), and mashed potatoes in a measuring cup (as in 1 cooking measuring cup). The setting: try to get a bench seat in the outside patio, metal tables are small and chairs are heavy to move and adjust. If benches are not available, sit inside and you will get faster service and a comfortable seat. It is semi-open kitchen. Our service was super slow. A bunch of people who came after us, got served well ahead - it got chaotic. Also, check your bill - busy night and the waitress accidentally added someone's wine bottle to our check. In a summary, I recommend this place - food was great and Swedish. Prices are a bit cheaper than on Drottninggatan (busy touristy street nearby). read more

It's a tiny space so a reservation is recommended. As a solo-traveller I did not have a res and sat at the bar. During the day, I came by for a beer with a new buddy I met at the City Backpackers hostel. I had recently injured myself with some major road rash from a motorcycle accident and the wait staff was super friendly and helped me out so kudos for being awesome and dealing with my grotesque wounds. I came back later that night to get some dinner and their meatballs were really good! I love the mashup of sides which blended perfectly. Everyone kept raving about the meatballs here and I can agree. The next day, a few guys I had met at the hostel and I have had Nomad for their meatballs already and we wanted to see if there were any other options around as we wanted to explore our palettes. However after stumbling about 10 minutes out towards the 7-Eleven, we decided to wander our way back here to get some dinner. This time I got the salmon which was also really good and different so it seems like you can't really go wrong with coming back for more. The ambiance is really chill and you can meet people here and share some stories. Shoutout to them for making their own saison as well. They only really have one draft from when I was there but see if they have some bottles that you can try. While this is located next door to a hostel it is actually fantastic food. I had the meatball plate and it was fantastic! Came with all the normal fixings (lingonberries and sauce) and the sauce was done very well. Overall I was really happy with Nomad and would drop a 5* based on quality of food but I ordered at 7 and didn't get my plate until 8:30. I think there was a bit of a language barrier which may have caused this but either way it kind of killed the experience for me even though the food was wonderful and service was great otherwise. Jacob's Gist: Good for a decent, quick dinner and right next to one of the top hostels in Stockholm. ========================= I went here solely because of the 99 sek meatball and 27 sek beer deal that I received from City Backpackers Hostel (which is right next store and has a separate entrance into Nomad to make it incredibly accessible). However, I was pleasantly delighted by how good the food was and would definitely come back- even without the hostel deal! I sat at one of the very small tables right when you walk in from the main entrance and was helped right away by one of the waitresses. While I waited for my meatballs, I had the crackers that were on the table and some butter. My food and beer came out pretty quickly. The meatballs were actually very good, as were the lingonberries. The only downfall with the food was that he mashed potatoes definitely came out of a bag (I'm not a mind reader- I saw the bags of potatoes as I walked in). Still, the food was very good and on the cheaper end of the scale in Stockholm. These probably aren't the best meatballs in Stockholm but for the price and accessibility of them I'd say they were pretty darn good. read more

Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by a sign stating please wait to be seated. As we stood there for the next ten minutes no one even greeted us to say they would be with us shortly despite having multiple servers coming in and out of the bar area and chatting up patrons. This should have been the first sign that maybe we should have gone elsewhere for the evening. Sadly there were many more signals such as the fact that half of the tables in the dining room hadn't been cleaned since their patrons left presumably hours ago (literally one table stayed uncleaned the entire time we sat at the restaurant for over an hour). Normally I would at least describe the food at the restaurant, but I won't in this case as I came to the distinct realization that our bad experience may in fact be due to racism. Man was it insidiously subtle until I put two and two together. Considering during our time there, we saw two other groups come in and they were immediately greeted and provided prompt service (including still water and crackers with butter, which we were never offered) I am positive we were treated differently. Maybe it wasn't racism, but I fail to find another explanation given the color of my skin compared to the complexion of those given better service. read more

Really nice in the center of Stockholm , I especially recommend to go there during warm day since they have an inside yard where it feels really great to enjoy a beer ! The food is also quite good , I have tried their famous meatballs and also a soup and both were tasty and ok price for Stockholm . Style over substance. While the space is cosy and inviting, the service and meal itself was underwhelming. After having to work a bit to gain the attention of a staff member to be greeted and seated, we then waited more than 10 minutes to have our drink orders taken. Having begun to question our decision, I then notice that the single chef on duty is reheating every diner's meal to order in a convection oven. Everything from meatballs and steak, to mashed potatoes and roasted cauliflower seems to have been pre-cooked. We ordered the meatballs, and they were OK, but were honestly quite reminiscent of IKEA's and quadruple the price.
