After dinner in Kungsholmen, my boyfriend, a couple of friends and I decided to go for drinks. A quick yelp search led us to Tiki Room, which I had bookmarked (but don't remember doing it, ha!). It wasn't too far of a walk, so we decided to go for it. All I had to do was look at the pictures to immediately say "YES!". I am such a sucker for pretty cocktails.
We arrived and couldn't find the place, aside from a tiny sign outside, below the sign for the restaurant upstairs. A waiter helped us find our destination, and we descended some steep, spirally stairs. Sure enough, just as the other reviews mentioned, it really is a proper tiki bar! The atmosphere alone was enough to make me giddy (keep your eyes peeled for the REAL blowfish skin lamps at the bar. Sooo cool).
Of course, you can't go to a tiki bar without a few drinks. All four of us had at least two drinks, and we taste-tested them all. A couple did taste a bit TOO sweet or like they were made with powder. My favorite was the Coconaut, which was not only tasty but also came inside a coconut shell. Yum.
You might be wondering after reading all this why exactly I'm only giving 3 stars. Unfortunately (fortunately?), when I want drinks I want to feel the alcohol. I didn't feel like these drinks were strong enough, especially when the prices are so high. For one or two pretty drinks before a night out, this might be a good place to go. However, if you want to spend a lot of time here, you better a) have a lot of disposable income, and b) not want to feel buzzed by the end of the night.
I still don't know how I gave up my card to pay for a 389 kr volcano drink for "2-3 people", but really just suitable for 2. Even if they do set it on fire, is it worth it?
Then again, maybe there *IS* something magical in those drinks. read more
