Wow - this place knocks every other Greek restaurant out of the park! They are not stingy with their proportions, and the food is crazy good. The lemon soup (avgolomono) is the best I've ever had anywhere. The gyros was absolutely huge and absolutely delicious - the perfect flavor and texture, with a soft and puffy pita "envelope" that wrapped around the tomato, red onion and perfect thin-sliced meat. The tzatziki sauce complemented the gyros and the crispy perfectly-spiced pita triangles we were served as an appetizer. I had a glass of Retsina which was served perfectly cold and delicious. This is a cozy place anyone would feel comfortable in, and our server was very personable. It was pretty busy even at 4 PM. We hope to enjoy many more meals at Opa! Opa! read more

I was referred to this place by a local Greek guy who said they make legit saganaki- I was not disappointed! Really tasty & legit- as you can see from the 'fireball' pic. My party was quite pleased with our meals- we all got some version of the gyro meat on salad. Their dressing is delicious & their tsadziki was also good. I really just wanted some vegan-friendly dolmas but I ended up getting some of their fresh cut fries as well as some of their spinach and rice. The employee who assisted me was acting very weird. He wasn't necessarily rude but he wasn't really helpful either. I advised him that I was vegan and inquired about certain menu items and their vegan-friendliness. His answers seemed uncertain even though he verbally assured me that he knew what he was talking about. He stated that the spinach and rice was vegan and contained no dairy-products or animal broth. I pray that he was right. DOLMAS - you get six little dolmas for $7. The dolmas were very good but over-priced for the size and portion. OPA HOMEMADE FRIES - sooooo delicious! I loved the seasoning and they give you so many fries for the $5! (Other places should take note! hmph) SPINACH & RICE - DELICIOUS! I don't know how a simple recipe can be so inspiring. We stopped in here yesterday on a whim to check it out. Opa! Opa! Has been around for awhile, located in SE Rochester, offering take-out, as well as delivery through Grub Hub. We ordered the gyro plate, the Pastitio (Greek Lasagne), both with a cup of Avgolemono, and an order of falafel to share. The gyro was amazing, very rich tasting, well seasoned meat, the Avgolemono was perfect - rich and creamy with the perfect amount of lemon. My only issue with the food was that the Pastitio was under seasoned. It came off a bit bland, so I added salt to mine to make it have a little more flavor profile - other than that, it was wonderful. The spinach rice was very good, I'd get that for takeout as a stand alone dish. I appreciate that their plates are served with kalamata olives and pepperoncini as garnish. The service was good, the restaurant was clean and I enjoyed the atmosphere. It is a pretty small restaurant, maybe not ideal for a very large party. I'd totally go back! read more

Grisle not kebabs!!! What a shame that so many dishes this restaurant serves are so good but they failed miserably on one of the Cornerstone dishes of Greek cuisine which is lamb kebabs . The ones I ordered were pretty well inedible. Both kebabs were nothing but gristle . When I sent it back basically chewed up and spit out the owner didn't even bother to come out and address the situation. I did mention the problem to the waitress who seemed to be on another planet. I am a Greek American from a restaurant family. This is not Greek food. The pastichio which is a traditional dish was wrong on all levels. The noodles were not capama noodles which makes the dish like a lasagna. The sauce tased like salsa not sauce and the topping which is Bachamel was something but not that. I can even tell what it was. It was bad. Then you put tortilla chips in with it? The avgolemono soup which is also a staple was bad. Sort of close but all wrong. Dined there for lunch today and enjoyed the beef/lamb gyro with fries. Their fries are fantastic. They're not your traditional fry - must try. Gyro was pretty good, flavor tasted a little bland. I didn't even want to give this place ONE STAR it was SO BAD, but I did get filled up so...Being a 100% American born greek (Grandparents on BOTH sides of the family originally from Greece) I know a thing or 2 about greek food...AND good service (my dad had previously owned 2 business himself) and Opa Opa unfortunately offers neither one...I arrived and wanted to sit outside on they're patio so I poked my head in the restaurant to let them know I was out there..There was one cook working and one waitress/hostess who asked me "how many"...5 min. later she came out with pita and satsiki, a greek cucumber sauce..she set both down along with a menu and disappeared without asking me if I wanted something to drink..10 min. later she was back to take my order...I told her I wanted gyro, but not the sandwich, I could do WITHOUT the thick pita bread that is basically tasteless and sometimes quite dry...In Greece it is served on a plate sliced fresh moments before from the cone and served with onions and more satsiki sauce, which was thin and runny at Opa Opa...She brought me a sandwich anyway, and since I was so hungry and it was getting late, I didn't say anything...I ate the sandwich, which was cold, but the rice that came with it had some "red sauce" of sorts on it which I didn't care for AT ALL, so I asked her if I could get some without the sauce on it...she nodded and disappeared again for several minutes..when she returned she DID bring a decent size bowl of hot rice for me. but by then my appetite was pretty much gone...I had to ask for my check when I was ready to leave, or else I prob. would STILL be sitting there...To summarize, I won't be back.. I suggest if you feel the "urge" for greek food to call for "takeout" or better yet, just go somewhere else, they're not the only place in Rochester to get a gyro... read more

This was a great experience. Anyone who likes Greek food would be as impressed as we were. My wife and I ate here yesterday, we ordered a sampler-for-two (forgot which one). When they brought it out, it was a LARGE PLATTER of food, shish-kabobs, gyros, vegetables, rice, just a ton of food! And this was on top of already receiving a soup and salad, so the portion size was already worth its money. The food quality was also very good. The meat was all cooked to tenderness, the vegetables and salad were all fresh and prepared well, the soup was also very flavorful. We also ordered a side of saganaki, flamed right in front of us in pure Greek tradition, and the cheese was rich and not greasy. It was salted well, enough to taste it mildly but not too much that you'll get deathly thirsty later on. The bathrooms were clean, but they could have been modeled better and situated better for appearance; perhaps they could have kept the mop, bucket, and cleaning supplies elsewhere?... The atmosphere was also cozy, it was not formal, but casual and the decor was also simple. The service was good, it was prompt and courteous. So while there could have been some improvements or opportunities for enhancements, the best take-aways were that the food was delicious and the service was very good. read more

Outstanding! We ordered the Costas Deluxe Platter, which includes gyro, broiled Opa chicken, lamb kabob, spicy feta, hummus, Bourekia, skorthalia, tzatziki sauce and pita bread. Each dine-in order comes with baked pita chips and tzatziki sauce. Both are delicious, and slightly addictive. It was all very good, but the gyro and kabob stood out the most. We ate here on a whim last night for the first time. Our teenage boys were out doing their own thing and we wanted to go somewhere different with our 5-year-old daughter. My oldest has been doing a report on Greece which gave me a hankering for Greek food, of which I haven't had in many, many years! Anyway, the food was FANTASTIC! We didn't know what to order, so the owner of the restaurant, who was also our server, gave us some suggestions on the "dinner for 2" menu, which offered a variety of different things. It came out on a huge platter and would've fed 3-4 people easily. All three of us ate off of it and we didn't finish it! Our daughter was amazed with the people ordering the flaming cheese appetizer around us and we were shocked that it didn't set off any alarms as the blaze reached the ceiling! Very entertaining and will definitely have to try that the next time we are there. She (our daughter) was also very proud of herself for trying some new things and liking them. The restaurant itself is just a small, "hole-in-the-wall" sort of joint, painted bright blue. When the girl-child went to the bathroom, she entered it with a "OH WOW!" which prompted us to take a look. A 5-year-old girl's fantasy bathroom! Bright pink! You can't beat a $12 bucket of beer, but the food is just mediocre and the servings are moderate. The service is fast and friendly. My wife and I ordered the Spanakopitakia (how it's spelled on the menu), for appetizer, and Gyro Plates (mine with Crinkle-Cut Fries and her's with Onion Rings). While we waited, the waitress brought out the beer and Greek Pita Chips with Tzatziki Sauce. The Chips were great, but the Tzatziki was very bland and I couldn't taste any Cucumber, Dill, or Garlic. The Spanakopitakia didn't have spinach in it and I'm pretty sure it was cream cheese (not Feta). The Pita for the Gyro was too small and made eating it by hand difficult. The meat was good, but the Gyro had a very small amount of onion/tomato with no lettuce. The Crinkle-Cut fries were different from what I'm used to and reminded me of flavored chips, not fries.
