I paint pottery often, and Brush it Off Seattle truly stands out as a special experience. Most…read morestudios I've been to are in strip malls and they are busy, crowded, and you're lucky if you find a table. This one is different: set on a private property in a quiet neighborhood in South Seattle, it feels calm, personal, and connected. For those of us who live just south of the city, it's such a treat to have a space like this nearby. The event space itself is gorgeous, and perfect for groups. The owner took time to walk us through everything and even offered drinks (such a thoughtful touch). What really impressed me was the selection -- not just the usual imported pottery, but also pieces made by local artists. I chose a heart-shaped dish I'd never seen before, and it truly feels like I created something unique. Between the fun variety of pottery, multiple art mediums, easy parking, an on-site bathroom, and pricing that's better than the mall studios, this place is a gem. Highly recommend for both casual painters and anyone looking for a more elevated, memorable experience.

There was only one cashier but there were self-checkout machines so I was able to check out pretty quickly. I did come back to pick up an online order since I got a discount from ordering online. One of the employees asked me for my last name then told me to look at the pickup section to find my order. I did find that odd and a little less secure than I would like. That means anyone could have come in the store and looked at the last names on the pickup bags and told the employees that it's their order. Nonetheless, it has been a pretty seamless experience going to this store. I would def order from them again since the prices and options are reasonable.

In fact, the first time I saw her art, and the first time I met her, I fell in love with a pretty big painting called King of the Dead. I thought I'd never have it, but on a special occasion, I received some money and was finally able to buy King of the Dead, as well as some AMAZING encaustic pieces that were just my style (skulls, baby parts). Because I was buying a few pieces, Kim gave me a great deal. OH! I've bought a couple of other great smaller paintings in the meantime, and also have bought ceramics from her for my friends' wedding gifts! Cool stuff! That reminds me - I need to buy some more art from Urban Soule...

I can't believe I had never explored this store before!…read more Seattle recreative (the sodo location) has just about everything you could ever need for crafting. They had fabric, all aspects of sewing and scrapbooking, jewelry making, bulk paint and glue, glitter, and a wide selection of different containers. I don't think I could even write everything they had. The prices are dirt cheap: I bought 9 or 10 things for $5. If you (like me) are really into sustainability, I can't think of a better place to pick up your crafting supplies.

Somehow, I had never heard of Seattle ReCreative, but I'm glad I stumbled upon it! The store doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's much bigger than it looks. The front rooms have sewing supplies, knitting/crochet needles, fabric and notions, plus modeling clay, jewelry and beading stuff. As you go further back, there's a room with office supplies, a section of cards and stationery and paper ephemera. The biggest area is in the back, though, where the main warehouse is. That's where you'll find gift bags and tissue, floral supplies, wicker baskets and tins, paint, and tons more random stuff. The other side of the warehouse is a crafting area that looks like it can be rented out - they said they had had a bunch of kids in earlier for a field trip. You definitely have to sift through the piles of stuff to find what you're looking for, but the prices are very reasonable. I love that it's reducing waste and encouraging creative reuse - anyone with hobbies knows how expensive it can be to get started with supplies, and this is a good way to try things out inexpensively. (Or get rid of the evidence of an abandoned hobby.) Their hours are a bit limited, but similar to other small crafting/hobby supply shops. Overall, if you're willing to roll up your sleeves and hunt, there's lots of treasure to be found!
