I stumbled across this place while looking for a couples massage for my boyfriend and I as a Vday present. I was really surprised that they offered a package deal with massage, mani/pedi, and facial. I never got my nails done or had a facial before, so it seemed like a great deal. Mani/pedi: Was good. The nail tech worked quickly and efficiently, and my nails turned out alright. It's not perfect and probably needed just a bit more attention, but for a basic mani/pedi, it was good. Facial: Was quite nice. Having never done one before, it was pleasant having the face massage. I have no idea what products were used, but they seemed to work ok for my skin. The moisturizer was a bit heavy for me, something I mentioned at the start being a common problem for me, but it didn't seem to really be an issue in the long run. My skin felt nice after. Massage: This is where things fell short for me. It was a 60 minute Swedish massage, but it almost felt like a deep tissue. It's been a couple of days, and my neck and shoulders are still sore. At some points, it was downright painful, which is the opposite from a relaxing experience. Overall, it's a decent place with friendly staff and a wide range of services. The place itself seems a little dated and can use a face lift, but the back rooms are nice and clean. For a one-time experience, it was okay, and the deal is very nice, but the staff doesn't seem professionally trained to do massage or are just very heavy-handed. Overall, we both still enjoyed our experience, but it was out of the way for us and nothing was so exceptional to warrant another visit. 3.5 stars. read more

I knew the 'special' sounded too good to be true. A massage, facial and mani-pedi for $165?? But it was a great location to meet my bestie in between our houses, and they got us both in within a week (I should have known then too). The ladies running it are lovely, but I don't think the therapist is a licensed massage therapist. I have had a lot of massages since I was 14, and it wasn't bad, but was different than a 'normal' one. The table had no soft pad or heat, and when I flipped over on my back, she didn't put a booster under my knees, which was uncomfortable. The facial was good & she was nice, but I broke out for 2 weeks afterwards. The mani/pedi weren't very good. I hadn't had one in six months and told her my cuticles were horrible and asked her to make sure to do them really well. However, she rushed me through both, barely soaking my feet or fingers to soften them, and my cuticles were absolutely shredded after a few days. I was disappointed in the mani-pedi the most. The pleasant atmosphere & ladies, and hanging with my best friend for a spa day made it worth it at least, but I will not be going back. read more

Had a French manicure with the tip using dip method, Pinky nail fell off within the first 24 hours not to mention the manicure looks very dusty as you can see: note the pinky is a kiss manicure nail from Walgreens as a repair. My friend and I booked the "spa day" special on a Saturday. The massage was adequate. The facial was AMAZING and I loved the esthetician. She was thorough, knowledgeable and wasn't trying to sell products. GREAT. My friend enjoyed the facial as well but stated that she felt rushed thoughout the rest of her stay. NOT GREAT. I was satisfied with the mani/pedi until 3 weeks later when my friend and I both developed a foot fungus. She called just to make them aware and the manager/owner was not helpful and pretty much said it wasn't from his salon. I HIGHLY doubt that it was a coincidence that HER AND I BOTH developed a foot fungus at the very same time (3 weeks later) after pedicures done at the SAME salon in the SAME chair! I was really excited about going back for another facial in the future but sadly I won't be returning. I work at a dental office and whenever a patient isn't fully satisfied we do EVERYTHING in our power to make it right. I'm truly disappointed. I had gotten my nails done there a few times (pedicures) and realized that Minnie or the man who wears the necklaces would RUSH through the massage part of the pedicures so I was always left a little disappointed but I figured whatever it's close. A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and a went for a couple's massage after a particularly stressful week at work. I had the guy (who did my pedicures in the past) and while I was expecting a nice, relaxing experience, I had the worst massage experience of my life. The guy was touching parts that should NEVER be touched during a massage. One time I thought was an accident but then it happened 5-6 more times during the whole thing. I kept squirming around trying to give him the hint without making a scene. I have gotten quite a few massages during my life and have NEVER been made to feel uncomfortable like that. Not even close. I will never go back for any "service" again. I had another friend go get a massage there this past weekend and she said that although her massage wasn't as 'intrusive', her guy (seemingly a different man than I had) focused a little too much on her butt to the point that she also felt incredibly uncomfortable. I absolutely love this spa! I've had a facial, a massage and multiple mani/pedi's all of which have gone super well. I love that they are attentive from the moment you arrive until you leave, every single person there is always nice but particularly the front desk. Sure there is sometimes a little language barrier but they always make me feel at home and comfortable. They also have excellent specials for mani/pedis which I love! I do go out of my way to get my nails done with them because of their cleanliness. I don't want to imply that if a spa doesn't look nice it won't have good services but unfortunately that has been my experience at other places. The moment they let the place get sloppy so does the service. Anyway back to Onsen, the pedi chairs are amazing and provide a good chair massage while you are there. They have a good selection of nail polish not huge but all the latest colors. The nail technicians are always very gentle and I haven't had any issues with them over cutting or pushing my cuticles to the point of pain. When they've trimmed my nails they've never gone overboard. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone, sure Schaumburg is just down the street and they have a multitude of spa's but in all honesty you will get your money's worth and 10 X the service at this place. read more

3 stars for services. 1 star for bathroom. I received a gift certificate for a classic mani-pedi at Onsen and was excited to try a new place. I brought a friend with me. We compared notes afterwards and felt the same. A very acceptable mani/pedi but nothing out of the ordinary at all. Not rushed but almost too efficient. We were the first customers of the day so there was no one waiting. An extra 5-10 minutes for the pedi would have made it feel more luxurious and relaxing. A bit of extra buffing of the heels would have been welcome and not out of line with experiences at other local nail salons. The place "looks" clean but what will keep me from going back is the dirty bathroom. As I said, we were the first clients of the day. The bathroom should have been ship shape. It was not. This build up of grime, soap scum, etc. takes time. Enough said. I hope they correct these items. I'd like them to succeed and not see another "for rent" sign in the window of a local business. read more

I live very close and have gone multiple times. They always have a great deal on massage packages and mani/pedis. Each time I have left very happy and plan on returning. The main thing I like - IT'S CLEAN! You can SEE them sterilizing all their items. Their massage sheets smell clean. It's comforting knowing you're in a hygienic place. My very first wax everrrrr! To be more specific, leg wax. ;) I really liked the vibe; the guy at the front desk was very friendly and let me put the tip on my credit card, but usually it's cash only. I've used an epilator before so this was cake... I'd been worried, but it only hurt a little and my legs are sooooo smooth. The woman who did my legs, Ovana (maybe?) was sweet and answered all my questions. She was gentle and efficient. I don't know how accurate all the waxing should be... Went yesterday for a 'spa day' special with my mom. Maybe it's because I've been to some pretty spectacular spas, but I wasn't quite as giddy about this place as others who've posted here. We got the $99 spa day special (express facial, 50-min swedish massage, mani, pedi). Here are the pros and cons. The Facility was decent. The massage and facial rooms were just fine, but the atmosphere upon entering wasn't one of 'total relaxation': the waiting area, front door and reception are all combined in one large area with the mani/pedi stations, so it felt like a big salon area (as opposed to a relaxing day spa.) The Facial was top notch! My mom and I both thought it was really excellent. No complaints. One of my best facial experiences. The Massage left something to be desired. First, the light in the room was too bright, the guy working on me was too rough (even when I told him to take it easy), the oil didn't feel substantial, no scents, and I thought they should have used a double top sheet or the single top sheet with a blanket to cover me up. The single top sheet alone felt too sheer for me. They also used Kleenex on the face cushion, which seemed kind of cheap to me. Maybe it was just my guy. I don't know. I just found the massage the least relaxing and enjoyable. The Mani and Pedi, were fast, clean and well done. Kudos there. Finally, the price can't be beat. That $99 special is pretty unbelievable. That, alone, makes this place worth visiting. My mom loved her whole experience. I was a little more in the 3-star range, but only because when I think spa, I think, "transport me to another place through the use of scents, space design, sounds, and ultra mellowness". I've moved to the suburbs 5 years ago & had a hard time finding a nail place that I really liked..until Onsen. Minnie does a fabulous job..and everyone is always so friendly!! I usually feel uncomfortable going to get my nails does because the technicians are always holding conversations in their native language (which I find to be extremely rude). But at Onsen, the staff is more than capable and happy to hold a conversation with you. I once brought my Goddaughter in to treat her to a mani-pedi for straight A's on her report card. They made her feel so special, and my Goddaughter was so happy. I have tried waxing & was equally I impressed with how thorough their work was. They have a great deal on a massage, which I still need to make time to try out. I will definitely have to make an appointment to try it out. I'm honestly surprised this place doesn't have all 5-star reviews. Onsen's does the best manicure in town! After my normal nail salon recently went through a change of staff and started to go downhill, I began my search for a new place. A friend recommended Onsen's and man, I'm never going anywhere else again! They are meticulous. Both times I've been here, I've left with beautiful nails. They look fake -- that's how perfect they are. I've pulled and peered at every side, tip and base of each nail and can't find a flaw. For $35, this perfectionist is as happy as can be. The only drawback to this place is that it's much smaller than other nail salons in the area. There are only three chairs for manicures and three for pedicures, so it's not the best place for a group. Likewise, if you get cranky waiting, it's probably best to make an appointment. So go, make an appointment, grab $35, and get yourself over to this little-known place behind Culver's. You won't regret it. read more

They love to put rhinestones on my toes when I ask for a design... I guess I should specify that all I want is a cute little flower painted on, but last time I went they put one little rhinestone on each big toe, in the middle of a flower (it is just precious). That was three weeks ago, and the things are not budging! How did she do it??? Hopefully I don't have to use a chisel to get them off... I'm not even complaining, I am just crazy impressed! I recently received a gift card for a mani + pedi for my birthday. I however bite my nails and they do not have full set nails as a service, so I asked if I could use my mani for my next visit as a pedi and they had no problem allowing this. I never get a pedicure and feel at ease but at Onsen I kept drifting into sleep mode while having my feet pampered. They give you a massage while your nails dry which is something I never heard of or had. The atmosphere is very calming and I will definitely come back. I do wish the salon with a little more spacious but all in all I loved my pampering day. read more

We had a great experience here. We called on a Sunday morning for two appointments for one hour massages that same day. Fortunately they were able to accommodate us! I have a wonderful lady who used the most perfect pressure. I always ask for firm pressure, not weak and not to hard. She had it down right! My friend had a gentleman (I think it was the owner) and she said it was next to the second best massage she had ever had. The price was good ($55) for 1 hour and they were very nice. My dad got me a spa package at Onsen Day Spa, and I LOVED my experience. The spa package includes an express facial, massage, manicure, and pedicure. All of the services were fabulous. I am 30 weeks pregnant, and have had several prenatal massages and this was my favorite. I had four different people for each service and all were exceptional. I have been going to Onsen Day Spa for about three years now. This place is so clean and well-kept. Far above most other shopping center nail salons. Though I usually go to Minnie for my manicure/pedicures, all the technicians are great. I have some difficulties with me feet and they always take that into account and make me as comfortable as possible. I recently had a massage with Carlos and it was WONDERFUL. I have been looking for a massage therapist with the qualities I desire for several years now (after my therapist, Rosalinda Huck moved to California). I am so happy to have found Carlos. She trimmed my nails filed and then came back around to give me a neck massage which was well needed. Then she paid extra attention and looked at my nails one more time and got all the cuticles. On three separate occasions I came in as a walk in to get a eyebrow wax. Twice around five in the evenin and once during the day on a weekday. The man at the counter blamed me for not getting service because I didnt make an appointment. I proceeded to ask him if walk-ins were welcomed and he said yes. I've been here 2x; when I visit my mom, I take her here for facials. There are two talented and lovely estheticians who have taken such good care of us. For $65, we each had an hour-long European facial. It was so relaxing, I fell asleep. The best part about coming here was that it wasn't too crowded, they were very attentive, it's clean and new, and they took care of you even if it was 15 min more than the allotted hour.
