We just got our two dogs back from a 4 day stay. Communication was lacking - apparently our smallest dog (who is about 6 pounds) would not eat for the first two days. No one contacted us or sought our advice. Apparently they thought it was a good idea to give him some random canned dog food, which he ate. He has been having severe diarrhea, is dehydrated, and we're in for a very costly vet visit now. They did not even tell us about this when we picked them up. We had to reach out today to ask what happened. I would not trust your dogs here for an extended stay, unfortunately. My older dog has dietary restrictions and things could have been catastrophic if they had done this to him. Be careful with your dogs! read more

My dog Daisy loves going here... she sits up in the car, and starts wagging her tail as soon as we turn into the street. The staff pays attention to your dog's energy and matches them up with similar dogs, ensuring it's a good experience for them. If your dog is more of a loner, they can accommodate them as well. I am picky about whom I will leave my dog with, and Onion Creek allows me to feel ok about boarding her there. As an aside, my dog was boarded there during a storm. Unfortunately, the power went out for an extended period of time. They determined that the power was not coming back on any time soon and arranged to have my dog taken to another facility that did have power and heat. I was impressed that they had a plan in place to make this kind of adjustment. It makes me believe they have plans and resources to manage almost any situation giving me further confidence in boarding my dog there. I told him about the trouble I had on the website as well as staying ON HOLD for an hour with Sophia, rep from this kennel, in order to book this reservation for my dog outside of the website (cause it didn't work. Even Spohia tried it and it didn't work.) He was dismissive of my concerns entirely and even told me that, "If I am not a customer of Inion Creek Kennel, that he no longer needs to speak with me." I've been taking my dog to be groomed here for years because it's too much trouble to find another groomer. Almost every time I have my dog groomed I have to fix her eyebrows and cheeks because they're uneven. I've never said anything until this last grooming when she was botched. My dog seemed to love his stay here and it was very convenient. The staff was SUPER friendly. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is they are not flexible at all with pick up and drop off times. I had to have a friend drop my dog off. I asked if I could bring my dog a few hours early and pay half a night's stay and they said no :( I know...rules are rules, but darn... We have since added a new and slightly unstable dog to our pack so I don't think we'll be able to go back, but I would recommend them if you can make their pick up and drop off times work for you. read more

Extremely disappointed. I was best man in a wedding last weekend and my normal dog sitter went into labor the day before so we had no choice but to board our dogs. I got a call 30 minutes after I dropped them off saying that Toby, my extremely friendly black lab, was growling and if he didn't stop he wouldn't be allowed to stay. Turned out these dog keepers couldn't handle it so I had to run back to get them all dressed in my suit and everything and find somewhere else to go. They wouldn't even let me try to hang out with him for a little bit to see if I could ease him into it. Also, since I was the best man and the wedding was in 2 hours, I was in a rush to get it figured out and the manager wouldn't call me back until she was done with her lunch break. I understand that you weren't on site to meet with me but all I wanted was a phone call to talk about our options. Really bummed out because we are moving to the area next week and were looking for a kennel where we could board them whenever we go on vacation/business trips... Guess we'll have to take our business somewhere they can actually handle dogs. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this operation. They are courteous, conscientious, and truly love the dogs. My black Lab, Bentley, used to go to doggie daycare twice weekly. He always came home tired and very happy. The staff always gave me updates on his adventures and new friends that he had made. They made me feel that he was their favorite dog!!! Because of my circumstances, I am no longer able to afford to take him. Poor Bentley!! He really misses it!! The owner of this facility quite literally saved our dog's life. When even our vet had doubts that our great dane was experiencing bloat, Jaime wouldn't accept it. She personally took our ailing dane to an emergency clinic and surgery there saved her life. I would urge you to take the few negative reviews with a grain of salt. The staff here is attentive and kind, my dogs are always treated like members of a family. They make every effort to answer the questions and concerns of each pet parent. I visited Onion Creek Kennels this weekend, and I was extremely impressed. The entire kennel is spotlessly clean. The dogs have indoor kennels at night, but they are let out 5 times a day to run. There are several large, fenced-in, grassy areas for dogs to be outside. There is a strict procedure for letting dogs in and out of their runs for safety's sake. I was impressed with the Cat Room, equipped with aquariums for fish watching and kitty condos for climbing. In addition to the immaculate kennel, Onion Creek also offers pick-up and drop-off service in a delightful van, adorned with photos of kennel clients. Manager Jaime is calm, collected and efficient. My mini Aussie, Sadie, just finished her two week lodge and learn with the trainer Gilbert and WOW the difference! Gilbert did such an amazing job training my sweet and stubborn Sadie with all the basics and her behavior is so much better! I highly recommend Gilbert for the lodge and learn or just obedience classes in general and I also recommend leaving your pup there just to board if you go out of town! Don't plan a vacation depending on Onion Creek Kennels. Booked in advance, took a tour the prior Friday and showed up Monday and one woman took offense at Toby, our 7 yr. old chocolate lab's tail being bobbed (like that when adopted from a kill shelter at 5 weeks old). She commented on it several times. Seemed obsessed about it. THREE minutes after taking both Toby and Dixie, our heeler back, she came out and asked if he was aggressive. I said, no, was a sweety pie, a lovey dog, typical lab. She said he was being aggressive. I observed him in his run observing his new whereabouts. Nothing else. I asked what had he done. She stated he had barked at a dog going by and had run up to the gate. REALLY, he barked at a dog. The other techs avoided eye contact with me. Needless to say, we took our dogs and left and would never trust our babies in their care. read more

Since early 2007 our dog has stayed about 100 days at Onion Creek Kennels. In September 2008 we scheduled a Christmas 2008 stay for him and believed everything was set. Then in late November they told us the appointment was cancelled. When we probed further they said our dog had been agressive towards their employees and had nipped/bit on at least 3 prior stays. Never once had they informed us of this behavior during a previous stay. We found that to be very disrespectful and irresponsible on their part. And second, to cancel a long stay less then a month from a very busy holiday schedule exacerbated the situation. We were lucky to find another kennel! Because of their irresponsible and disrespectful behavior towards the safety of our dog, their employees, and our trust, we will never return to Onion Creek Kennel and we will never recommend it to anyone. You may want to consider your pets safety and security above the inexpensive costs to kennel here. read more

We have boarded our dogs at Onion Creek Kennel twice. Both times my dogs have loved it. The kennel is spotlessly clean, my dogs get to board together, and they take great care of them. The first time my dogs stayed, one of them tried to go back in to the kennel because he loved it so much. We do pay extra for "cuddle time" and walking because being in a kennel is stressful for a dog. My only reason for not giving five stars is that they are extremely inflexible on pickup times. I was not aware of the 1pm pickup hard deadline the first time I picked up my dogs - I got there at 1:15 because my husband said to pick up the dogs "around 1:00" - and they were not very nice about it. I get that rules are rules, but I did not even know about this particular rule. I will do better in the future because I like the service, but I wish they had just patiently explained the rule to me instead of getting instantly irritated when I walked in the door...I did not drop my dogs off so I didn't know about the rule. read more

I absolutely hate the fact that I drop my dog off at 7 in the morning and they don't start grooming him until 4. That's 9 hrs of him in a kennel cage or wherever they put him. We found ourselves in torrential rain leaving Houston and rain all the way home and arrived 45 minutes after 1pm to get our dogs and got charged another night stay. No remorse or care from the staff. We weren't allowed a tour of the facility at drop off nor do we even know our dogs got their extra TLC. Got the dogs home, they were extremely thirsty and needed to potty badly. We won't be back. Extremely pleased with Onion Creek Kennels. We needed a place to kennel our furkids during our wedding and through our honeymoon and a friend suggested this place. I was very apprehensive as we had never ever left our dogs in the care of anyone but friends and family. So I decided to give them a call to see about pricing and reservations. From that first phone call, I was put at ease. The woman I spoke with was so incredibly pleasant and answered all my questions. Without giving it a second thought I made the reservation that day. They took great care of our dogs! When we returned the were bathed or appeared very clean, had new fun tags on, and we're wearing cute St Paddy's Day bandanas! And most importantly they seemed happy and well cared for. I feel like the pricing was affordable and their location is convenient to the South Austin/Buda area. Zero Stars. I want to acknowledge the fact that Onion Creek Kennels has a good reputation for the services they provide. The Tech staff are good people working for a Narcissistic Owner. I fear the quality of services will be effected, if they aren't already. The owner completely neglects/ignores the daily staff coverage and operations. When there isn't coverage, due to for example, a staff member's high school graduation ceremony or traveling out of state to see a dying, elderly relative. Instead of assuring someone will take an extra shift, or taking off her white gloves to get a little dirty...if shift isn't covered by someone volunteering, then the staff member that did their due diligence in notifying with ample notice , is TERMINATED. The owner doesn't notify with a call, she just takes them off the schedule and locks them out of the communication app. Heartless and cowardly! The owner also doesn't ever return calls or messages from the team, when there are questions or issues with shift coverage. The door is revolving, and tenured, passionate workers are leaving. read more

We recently moved about 40 minutes away and will not even consider going to another groomer. This is one example why: We lost our little female bishon to lymphoma several weeks ago and to our surprise, got a package from Onion Creek Kennel today.
