Our server was good. Outside of that, everything was below mediocre. We started with the crab cake appetizer. It was weird & off-putting. What little "crab" there was, was stringy and didn't have the consistency of crab meat. I had the lobster mezzaluna. The "black garlic balsamic" just did not work with the pasta. There was also very little lobster in each mezzaluna. And once again, the lobster I could find did not taste like real lobster. The dish was very one note. For dessert I had the "seasonal" cheesecake. This season's flavor was "pumpkin pie" which tasted like it was left over from Thanksgiving 3 weeks prior. It was neither a good cheesecake nor a good pumpkin pie. My husband also commented that his pasta was "tough". He knows the difference between "al dente" and tough, overcooked pasta. We stopped at Onesto for a quick bite and drink before the Skylight Theater play. We were the only ones at the bar. There was one bartender apparently filling dining room orders. She did not even give us recognition, as well as other employees that walked by. We waited 15 minutes without service and left. Onesto is immaculate! The best pasta I have ever had in my life hands down. The calamari was fresh and i absolutely loved the broth it was made in. I can't even remember the name of the pasta dishes because I had the waiter order for me, but they were both amazing!! Homemade, flavorful, great portion. It doesn't get much better. Our server was so helpful and kind. The food came out fast and I also enjoyed the complimentary bread. I will be bringing anyone I know here and would highly recommend trying this restaurant if you love authentic Italian food. Don't let Onesto deceive you. It may look elegant from the outside, but as a foodie, it leaves much to be desired. We started with the Warm Mushroom salad - I can't not order something that has goat cheese, dried cherries, and arugula. That was actually quite nice, but let's be honest, no one is going to an Italian restaurant just for a salad. We then decided to split the Rigate alla Vodka and the Meatballs & Pasta. It's a relatively small menu, so you'd think they have the recipes and execution down pat, but they were both big flops. The noodles in the vodka dish were way overcooked and mush. That at least wasn't as bad as the meatballs which were completely dry and served in a red sauce that I could not be convinced otherwise, had to have come directly from a Chef Boyardee can. I was in town for a seminar and went to Onesto for dinner with a colleague. It was a terrific experience. The restaurant is in a great area of Milwaukee and has a very warm and inviting atmosphere and the service was excellent as well. We started out with the Burrata which was very good. Accompanied by a preserve and toasts it was a nice way to start a meal. I believe their menu changes for the season so while they may have Burrata it may change slightly. For dinner I had the Rigata Alka Vodka which was superb!! I am very picky about the quality and cooking of my pasta but this is a place that understands al dente and both the pasta and the sauce was wonderful! My friend had the Ravioli which she also was extremely pleased with as well. I would highly recommend Onesto if you love pasta that is fresh, highly quality, and prepared well! read more

The restaurant is cozy. We stopped in without reservations on a Sunday about 4:45. We were seated in the small dining room right away. We had the crabcake appetizer and two of us shared it. It was really small so not good for sharing but it tasted good. It came with a little side of frisee lettuce dressed with a light vinegarette. The burrata app with apricot jam was delicious. The salmon entre was cooked well. I enjoyed my three scallop dinner. They were seared and tender. A bit too salty though. The pasta riggata with meatballs was not good. The sauce was of the pre-made variety and the meatballs were so hard and dry we couldn't cut them with a knife. We mentioned this to our server and she kindly took the entre off of our bill which was nice of her. She said there were complaints about the meatballs. Lovely place! Came here with a friend -- friendly staff, bread and butter was delish, love that they provide olive oil at the tables already. Our food was great! I was looking forward to dinner at Onesto as I was there a couple years ago and it was very good. I was disappointed this time. For the appetizers, the crab cake was good but the calamari was rubbery; for the mains, the scallops were cooked perfectly but lacked seasoning, the fusilli was just ok and the wagyu stake was disappointing lacking seasoning. Somehow life got away from us and we found ourselves not having plans for our anniversary the day before. On top of our lateness it was on a Monday night so a few places we thought about weren't open and several had no availability. But then we remembered we've been wanting to try Onesto for a long time and while the reservation was a little later than we'd normally pick, I'm so glad we went for it. We were able to take our time getting there, found a spot close by to have a drink before dinner and arrived a couple minutes early and we were seated right away. Our server was at our table quickly to answer questions and help us pick out cocktails because there were SEVERAL we each thought we'd like. (We'll have to go back to try the others because while we were assured they'd get us something else if we didn't like our picks we both loved our drinks.) The space is cozy feeling and while not overly romantic even when it was full it was still easy to have a conversation without feeling overwhelmed by the other noise. And the food....omg...the best lobster ravioli I've ever had. And I sampled the carbonara and it was also really good. And even though between the bread and soup and salad (not pictured but the Caesar salad was also fabulous) we were stuffed, we HAD to try the tiramisu. If you're a fan of tiramisu, you know there are pretty much as many variations as there are places that make it and I've never had one quite like theirs. It was delicious with tons of layers and topped with more of a chocolate coating than your typical cocoa powder topping. All in all, I highly recommend Onesto. read more

Had a lunch reservation here for 3 for a friend's birthday. We sat outside and enjoyed the weather as it was very nice out. We ordered the honey roasted bruschetta appetizer which tasted fresh and was pretty sweet. They also brought out bread and butter for us to enjoy. I ordered the fusilli which was a very creamy mushroom pasta with strong truffle aroma. I enjoyed my dish and the portion was also very large. The service was okay. Our waitress was nice in the beginning but seemed annoyed toward the end when we asked if we could get separate checks. Questo pasto è stato favoloso! (This meal was fabulous!) I had always heard rave reviews about Onesto but never had an opportunity to try their food until today. I just completed a whole decade of living in the US and to celebrate this momentous occasion we went to Onesto to eat our weights worth in pasta. And what a scrumptious meal it was! The cocktails have a very surprising twist to them ( their mule had pomegranate liquor and the Italian marg definitely was delicious and uncommon). We ordered sautéed calamari for appetizers and it definitely was different from friedn calamari. The brothy sauce with the calamari complimented the flavors of the spongy, chewy octopus tentacles. For entrees, we got the lobster ravioli and bolognese spaghetti. The microgreens that garnished the bolognese spaghetti also had a burst of flavor (like what!). When I walked in here I got greeted right away. I sat at the bar as I was waiting for the rest of the party to arrive. I was sitting at the bar for quite a while. After waiting for about five minutes while the bartender was chit chatting away I got up and went to see the host to get seated so I can at least get some service. Okay I ordered the lobster ravioli and had a chocolate Martini. The food was very tasty as so was the martini. It was a very nice ambiance as well which i enjoyed. Had the most amazing dinner last night at Onesto in the Third Ward! My boyfriend and I knew this would be the perfect place for a date night and the food definitely lived up to our standards! The restaurant is is elegant and the seating area is very spacious. Perfect ambiance for a special night! We went a little earlier, around 5:15, and it wasn't too crowded for a Friday night! I loved that we were able to get a table right by the windows looking out to the beautiful Third Ward scenery! My drink was delicious and the hand stuffed blue cheese olives were to die for! I opted for the riggate alla vodka and was blown away! I added chicken to my dish and it was so crispy and seasoned perfectly! The sauce was rich and creamy and the noodles were perfectly Al dente! My boyfriend had the bolognese and it was surprisingly delicious! I was skeptical about a brisket bolognese at first but the deep flavor of the meat really made this dish stand out among a classic bolognese. Lastly, the tiramisu blew our minds! It was sweet and bitter and just melted in your mouth- so yummy! Aside from the amazing dishes- the apps looked amazing and even the bread that came before the meal was wonderful! Our server was amazing as well- always clearing plates, making sure we were doing okay and giving us the run down of the specials with confidence! Love this place and will be definitely be back! Not sure why so many people complain about parking. I went on a Saturday during prime lunch hour. There are several parking garages just steps away, and street parking if you're lucky. Booked a high top reservation on our drive in from Minneapolis, was seated in the restaurant portion instead. Our server, however, was very pleasant. We ordered the Spinach Gnocchetti, and Torchetti. The spinach dish was perfect ~ tangy sun-dried tomatoes, delicious cream sauce. Not a massive portion size, which was perfect for doing the riverwalk afterwards. The Torchetti had a delicious red sauce ~ mildly spicy, bright. Paired with the bread and some wine, this was a solid meal before our adventures for the day! Note: very tasty herbed olive oil. Five-star date night last night! It's been awhile since we've enjoyed a night out, so this experience was just extra lovely. We booked ahead online, just to be safe since indoor seating is currently limited (re: covid). Upon arrival we were brought to our two-person hightop that was lined against the bar area. Honest the atmosphere here is just so relaxing. Lower lighting and cream city brick giving it a modern industrial feel. Our server doubled as the bar tender and was sweet and attentive. He brought my husband his delicious glass of cabernet that he choose from their extensive wine list. We put in an app right away as well. If you haven't had a "jar" from Onesto, get a "jar" from Onesto. Just as you'd assume, they're these small glass jars and filled with different delicious options. Our was the fig, gorgonzola, toasted walnut which came accompanied with warm and fresh baguette slices. For our mains, we got two dishes to split. The spinach gnocchetti pasta was wonderful and super creamy. It was a thick gnocchi-like pasta with flavors of prosciutto and lemon, and had some sun dried tomatoes mixed in. Our other dish was the eggplant cannelloni. If I could compare it to something, I'd say it had similar flavor and texture to crispy ravioli. I absolutely loved it. Especially the marinara and pesto combo. It wouldn't be date night without finishing off with dessert. My husband truly cannot resist tiramisu, so we ordered one to share (and savor). Prompt service, and inviting ambience, and tasty Italian food. What more could you need? Peep Onesto's new little cafe! I'm all about this - the more places to sit outside in the Third Ward, the merrier.  Generally Onesto is known for their incredible Italian fare, like homemade pastas and artisan breads that go along with their olive tapenade jars. Don't get me wrong, all of those dishes are fantastic and I will certainly return for a date night again in the future, but for now I'm loving the new outdoor cafe that opens up at 7am with a morning menu.  A few weeks ago, my husband and I stopped by to grab the highly anticipated dalgona coffee. He thoroughly enjoyed the creamy and sweet beverage! We also took a few biscotti's to go because who doesn't love those. As an Italian cuisine lover, Onesto has been on my list for quite a while. I finally got the chance to dine there and it was a great experience! I went in for lunch with a couple of friends. Even though it was 15 degrees, the Third Ward was quite lively. Onesto was decently busy as well. We were sat at a table next to the coffee bar. The inside is clean & charming with constant espresso aroma filling the air. I started with the freshly made sangria of the day which our waiter recommended. It was a mixture of orange and mango, quite refreshing. We all split an order of the bruschetta. We all agreed the cheese on it was tasty, but other than that, it doesn't stand out from most bruschetta appetizers. I ordered the lobster ravioli, while my two friends got the pasta and meatballs. They both enjoyed their dish. I stole a noodle and thought the sauce was really good. My ravioli had a mixture of marinara and a white cream sauce. It's perfect if you can't choose which pasta sauce you're in the mood for! The ravioli was cooked perfectly and the sauces combined well. It could use a bit more lobster, but tasty nonetheless. I had a very lovely lunch experience today! I had dinners here in 2017 and 2018 before I moved to the other side of the city. My impression used to be like "it's good but not great". Our server was very nice. The dining environment was clean & cozy & warm. Just took us a bit long to find parking spots which was absolutely normal in third ward. Food was delicious! My lobster raviolis were yummy & perfectly seasoned. Not heavy but flavorful enough. I thought it's reasonably priced for a lobster dish (seafood dishes are usually on the pricey side) and I was happy with the quality of the dish. Our group also ordered the fig & toasted walnut jar, chicken pesto croissant sandwich, squash tortellini and meatball & pasta. Everyone was very pleased. Onesto is one of my favorite places to eat in Milwaukee! The ambiance is calming and romantic, and I always receive excellent service. I've been there twice now and I always order the Fusilli! A fantastic dinner choice. We were nearby getting drinks and found ourselves underwhelmed by their food menu. To Yelp we went to find something close by, open, and serving food so we could sate our appetites. Onesto intrigued us and, BONUS, was just across the street and up half a block. We were out and about at a bit of an off-peak time (not exactly lunch time, not exactly dinner time) and ready to chow. Since it was a strange time, it did not require us having a reservation and we were seated immediately. The weather was spectacular and we were able to select some prime outdoor seating. Our server was great, super friendly but allowing us to have space to chat with each other and enjoy our food. We started with another round of drinks and, because I will order anything with elderflower in it, I got the Baccio cocktail. It was really tasty! And, because after a week in Wisconsin enjoying my body weight in cheese curds I felt like I needed to put something resembling a plant in my body, I opted for a salad for dinner. The Warm Mushroom with pine nuts, goat cheese, dried cherries and a vinaigrette was supremely delicious. I felt like the price for my drink was a little high, but the price of our food seemed pretty reasonable, so I guess it balanced out in the end. Emme coordinated a flawless dining experience with cocktail hour, menu, timing, seating, wine, and phenomenal meals (okay, the chef did that!). Onesto is a wonderful spot if you're looking to treat yourself or have a nice night out. (During COVID times they do curbside pick-up and have outdoor seating). Their pasta is handmade and you can taste the difference! I am someone who believes red sauce is always the way to go, however Onesto's fusilli with asparagus and truffle cream sauce has converted me. It is rich and flavorful and something I crave on the regular! The ragu and Bolognese sauces are also incredible, but seriously try the truffle cream sauce, you won't regret it! You cannot go wrong with the boards or salads they are fresh, lovely, and an excellent starter. Bonus - Onesto has a lovely staff that strikes the right balance between attentive but not overbearing and exceedingly friendly & engaging.
