She took out offers and within minutes we were seated and served. I had the traditional omurice with a side of fried shrimp. Essentially a ball of rice stuffed with some veggies, protein of choice and then wrapped in an egg. That was the impressive aspect. The presentation of the omurice was *chef's kiss* and tasted pretty decent, just isn't something I'd get again. My friends and I enjoyed the katsu -- super crispy but not greasy and the meat was tender and juicy. No dryness here! Located in a small strip plaza, Onedon doesn't look like from the exterior. However, once we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the staff. There's plenty of seating and overall it's a welcoming space. I tried the classic pork katsu with curry, #8 on the menu. It was very well done. Hamberg steak is essentially a Hawaiian style meatloaf with grilled pineapple on top. I love this meatloaf- crunchy outside and juicy inside. Korean style katsu is a little different than japanese style. It is thicker and the covering fry is not as fluffy. Sauce is sweeter. Nonetheless, delicious. I dare to say this is one of the better katsu place in all of halls AND houston. I hope to try their other menu next time! But it's hard to veer from the classics. Service is great. My husband and I both happened to bookmark this place on Yelp and finally decided to try it! We have always wanted a go-to place for tonkatsu and katsu curry. This place is located in a quiet corner of old K-town near Royal and 35. There is plenty of parking and the restaurant is easy to find. The interior is really cute, and you line up to order at the front counter. The menu is relatively simple, and we ended up ordering an original tonkatsu and a tonkatsu curry to share. The portion sizes are HUGE!! The pork chop was pretty much the size of my head. The batter is super light and crispy. The pork itself is a little on the dry side because it's thin, but it was still really delicious with the sauce. The katsu curry was our favorite. The side cabbage salad was refreshing as well. Onedon's location is in an awkward spot which meets the first criteria for hole-in-the-wall if there was ever such a standard. It radiates a family-owned charm, ticking off the second criteria. As for the final criteria, the food was absolutely bussin as evidenced by the Texas Mechanical Keyboards Discord group that I happened to befriend during my meal. In their table of 20, not an empty plate. So Onedon specializes in breaded fried pork cutlets. Hearing this, you might think of the thicker Japanese variety; however, the ones served here are of the thinner Korean style. The story goes that back when Korea was a less developed country, they would butterfly their pork to make it give a good illusion of size, and this establishment is no exception. The late lunch itself goes very nicely. I'm the only one there just enjoying my food and then all of a sudden in walks a regular. Strange I thought to myself; didn't they just open? It was quite a sight to see the guy behind the counter and the customer so familiar with each other given the context. Apparently the customer had been there many times and is making their way through the menu. A few moments then goes by and in walks a second set of regulars - mind you this is about 3 pm. Of the second set of regulars, they have formed a line and seemed to be in a single group which I eventually discover as that keyboard group. Strange I thought again as the sight of familiarity repeats itself. Some in that group had been there before and were guiding the others on what to order.
