When we realized we would not move in for a couple of months I asked the project manager to see if he could separate the quotes and do interior renovations before moving in. This was a "NO" so that 20k of work went to another contractor. Note this was the beginning of January so I assume not a super busy time. By mid March I still did not have a quote/idea on how much addition would cost...not even a ballpark. I was the one that kept calling/checking in to get status update. Needless to say I decided to end discussion. The new company starts work next week. Poor customer service/communication cost this company in excess of $150k of work. Another company is starting work next week. The only reason that I'm posting this is that I'm looking for additional work to be done and realize how much I depend on/look at reviews.

All the workers we dealt with were pleasant and relatively competent. The reason I would not recommend Coastal Contracting is primarily due to the lack of follow through with their one year warranty on materials. Our addition has been completed for about 9 months at this point, and we have had 3 distinct issues come up. Twice the HVAC has failed, and once the shower plumbing was malfunctioning. The first time the HVAC failed was right before the ice storm of early 2026, and we called the installing company to arrange service. They came out promptly and fixed the HVAC (faulty part, but we now had heat!) but we were told that we had to pay out of pocket for repairs since we did not first contact Coastal in writing. Ok. It then failed a second time right before the heat wave of July 4th weekend, so we contacted Coastal. We did get a personal email back after business hours saying that they would contact us after the weekend, which after 2 business days we have not heard from them. Again we did some repairs on our own. The plumbing issue happened between the two HVAC issues, so I was wise to submit my request for service in writing and followed up with a phone call, during which I was assured I would hear back...which I never did. It is just disappointing. Also disappointing were the many mis-ordered parts and vanity that delayed our project, the cut corners that we had to be vigilant about inspecting, and the surprise few thousand dollar increase in fee for a plumbing issue they did not see when they were quoting us. They admitted they didn't look under the house as they should have (I thought we were paying for their expertise?), but assured us that we could be happy that we were still getting a good deal. Maybe these hiccups and lack of communication after they get their check are all normal on a project of this size-I don't have any other point of comparison.

They have handled everything from flood remediation, and full restorations to small drywall patch and repair jobs. They have done roofing inspections and repairs, carpet replacements, window repairs and I even contracted them to do a $150K + stairwell restoration project! They have ALWAYS been nothing but timely, professional and are nothing short of experts in their field. All of the residents that have had interactions with TYL have nothing but good things to say about their work. The one time we had a small issue, Brent was courtious and professional and went out of his way to make the necessary adjustments to make the residet happy. I would HIGHLY reccommend TYL for any type of services from a small job to a full on project.

It's obvious that Allstate promises to throw TYL business as long as TYL promises to perform the work at a fraction of the cost a reputable contractor would charge. Reading the reviews, I wish I'd researched TYL prior to allowing Allstate to force them on me. I'm experiencing the same as majority of reviews. Lack of professionalism, lack of communication, and poor quality of work. In hindsight, I should have left the "not so good work" they did alone and called it a day. Instead, I insisted that they repair my water damaged ceiling correctly. Big mistake. I've got a bigger mess now than I had before. Nothing they did was communicated in advance. And everything they did has been a hot mess. Small things like them using my Dyson vacuum to clean up construction debris, leaving the toilet seat up, turning off AC and leaving off so my house was 91 degrees when I got home, moving all the furniture out of the damaged room with exception of TV & TV stand that they pushed in front of my back door making it unusable, not to mention a fire hazard, all added misery to my already miserable experience with them. If your insurance suggests TYL, JUST SAY NO. Even if you have to pay the difference out of pocket. No amount of money can make up for the frustration they will cause you. Not to mention the amount of time your house will be is disrepair awaiting them to complete. I'm still waiting...

From the first conversation I had with the office manager I really thought this was going to be a smooth process. I gave the company the deposit in May and the work wasn't completed till the end of September. I will say that it was a very rainy summer and work can't be done when the weather does not corporate. But the communication with this company was terrible. As the customer I should not had to call for updates to when work was going to start on my house. If I wanted any information I was the one who had to call. Then every time I was given a date that a contractor would come out they never showed. As time went by I as the customer didn't want to hear about how they needed to find a new roofer or someone's truck broke down, especially when I had to contact them for an update. The communication was so bad I had to call my insurance company to complain about the lack of communication I was getting on my project. I final felt like things were moving along when I picked my siding and the roofing materials were delivered. But then became disappointed again when the roofing materials sat on my roof for months. When the work started I was excited. Then came the continuous rescheduling and the miscommunication about which contractors were coming out. After I complained to my insurance company I did hear from the office manager about my project move frequently but was upset i had to go that route. The only complaint I have with the contractors is that the siding people did not clean up after themselves when they broke for lunch. I had to go outside and put their items in a trash bag, so the wild animals wouldn't be attracted to it. The work finally got done and from what I can see looks good. Had to go back and caulk a few items but am happy this is finally over.

Although they stated they "did not do the install," the installer was directly connected to and recommended through them. Three years later, the flooring is separating and clearly showing signs of being installed too tightly, a known installation issue. Instead of standing behind the product and the partnership they promoted, the company has taken zero responsibility and has pushed the issue entirely onto the subcontractor. This is an extremely unprofessional way to handle a major flooring failure, especially given the cost and the fact that customers are led to trust their installer partnerships. Being passed around rather than supported has been frustrating and disappointing. I would caution anyone purchasing flooring here to get everything in writing and be aware that accountability may disappear if problems arise later.
