This store was everything I expected it to be (not necessarily in a good way). The items were dusty. Kind of like old things left at your grandmas house. However, they did have a great selection! We saw new changing mats, quality baby carriers, new teething toys, resold diaper genies and trash bags, strollers, etc. Honestly, I'd recommend going here before buying new items. You can easily snag a deal. But there are some things that seemed overpriced like this rocking chair (will try to add a photo of it soon). It was forty dollars. I really like this store. I like the concept of being able to purchase gently used or sometimes brand new clothing for a reduced amount. I also like the option of taking my my items to their store for them to buy the items they want and need. The store is clean and well organized. They carry a huge inventory of used children's clothing, toys, and other items. Their employees have already gone through and inspected the items for stains, wear, and tears. I have bought brand new items to give as gifts before from here with the original tags still attached! When selling your items, they are gone through and inspected. They must be in-season. They must be in great condition. They also take in consideration the name brand of the item to insure that they maintain a balance in the store. The prices you receive from them are better than you'd get at a yard sale but maybe not as much as you'd receive at a high-end consignment store BUT you get your money right away without waiting for it to sell. I have never had a problem with the kindness of the employees. They are just doing their job and have always been very friendly to me. I recommend this store. read more

I went to sell some items I did not expect to walk away with hundreds of dollars so that is that but the customer service was great at this particular location. I've never had an issue going in here, staff is always friendly, they have plenty of boys and girls clothing that is actually cute and not outdated. The owners are very kind and have always been respectful. Other reviews are from people being upset about not getting 100s of dollars on their kids USED clothes. I could make this a super long post but all I'm gonna say...get a bigger location because that place is way too small for as busy as it gets, get better employees with better attitudes and customer service skills, be better about informing people with the buying process because some people travel a good ways to you and are not going to wait hours for y'all to handpick the things we bring and low ball the price, and why wasn't everything taken that I brought when they were in good condition but yet when I looked at more clothes to buy there was multiple items with lose stringed, holes, and stains? Every time I've tried to drop off, they say they are done for the day. I've been morning, early, mid & late afternoon. If you call, they tell you the same exact thing. Their excuse is "we had someone leave a really huge drop off" so we did our quota for the day. read more

Let's be real, you're not going to get ALL the money you paid for clothes back; nor are you going to get a premium deal for it either. That's just how business works. Businesses want to make money; and if this business accepted the entire box of clothes I brought in and gave me even half of what I paid in the stores, I would have walked out with a few hundred in my pocket. I called before coming to this location to make sure they were accepting clothes because the one on Independence had a sign on the door saying they weren't accepting clothes for the day. Okay no biggie. So after this location told me they were accepting clothes until 7 pm, I drove over immediately. I had my girls clothes in a diaper box. They were clean and not neatly folded but they accepted a good amount of clothes. So why 3 stars? After perusing the merchandise, I noticed they accept some lackluster stuff. It looks like they accept mostly Carters stuff. And that's fine cause I have those things too but they passed in some really good stuff from my box. I had a really cute button up sleep and play from Gap, that always gets compliments from people and that's actually still sold in stores that they didn't accept and a couple cute dresses from Gap that they turned down and a few pieces from H&M. Interesting. The guy that helped me was nice tho and explained how they price swings, as I'm thinking of selling my swing to them. We'll see. The clothes they didn't accept, I dropped them off at Goodwill. Some little 3-6 month old is going to be styling with some of the stuff I gave them. Some of the clothes there, look worn. Why would they accept that? I was going to buy this cute outfit for my youngest but noticed stains in the armpit areas. How does a 9 mo. Old get deodorant looking stains in their pits? I picked up a pair of jeans for my oldest for $8.50 tho. They looked straight but I'm thinking about washing those joints minimum two times. The moral of the story is, either be good with getting something or nothing. Again it's a business and they're not going to give you a ton of money back. Also if you really want to get your monies worth, either donate the clothes to a family member (then you won't need to buy any gifts for that new baby in the family or friend circle) or keep the clothes in big plastic bins (like I did) if you plan to have another baby. Who knows? You may have a baby of the same sex and will have the opportunity to reuse the clothes before selling them, like I did. For me, it was a win. read more

They are okay. I read reviews before I went I had a 54 gallon tote full to the max!!! They supposedly went though in a hour. They bought 24 dollars worth of clothing from me. I laughed and said okay but honestly burns my ass. Great place for selling and buying gently used kids clothes and shoes. Store is clean and well organized by gender and size.

I recently bought a collection of clothes for my children from this store in Concord. It was impossible to tell in the store, but when I got home, I realized that the clothes were smoky smelling. I immediately washed them, and I washed them several times. I was never able to get the smoke smell out, and unfortunately now my washing machine smells like smoke and other clothes in my house have picked up that smell. It's kind of a big mess! I'm really disappointed because I believe in used clothes because they are better for the environment and of course better for my wallet. I don't feel like I can shop here ever again, and I cannot recommend for other people to shop here unless they are already smokers themselves. This is not the first time I have purchased smoky smelling clothes from this store. This is just the first time it has really impacted my whole house (nice washing machine and many of my professional work clothes). I called the manager to very politely let him know what had happened. I didn't feel heard by him at all. I do not believe he was concerned about the clothes people purchase from them smelling like smoke. It would've been nice for him to apologize and to assure me that they would work on their sniff tests or something like that. I would've also expected somebody to offer for me to return the clothes or something like that. I don't really want to have any further contact with them but it was pretty tacky that he didn't offer anything or make an attempt to make things right. read more

Staff is very standoffish. The manager is very welcoming. I did not know all of the selling guidelines and I had a question or two and the manager was helpful. The staff who were going through my clothing to sell we're not. The young lady was quite short with me and I don't understand why. But she was very giddy when she was bragging to her co worker about her $700 in food stamps that she doesn't need and that she's just accumulating, it sounds like fraud to me. I am willing to give this location another chance, but if the next visit is just as this one I will no longer sell to them. I know that may not matter with me only being one person but it's important to treat your customers with care and courtesy. read more

Today had to be my last day . the manager and the owner are extremely rude . I had a coworker literally be rude to me everyday & i told them about it and they told me to stop talking about it . They don't care about anything wrong they do either . Being passive aggressive and lacking empathy. Keep in mind my first week here I worked OVERTIME & im 5 month pregnant. Nobody else would really come work or do overtime! BUT ME! The owner is very rude and sarcastic whenever you speak to him & the son (the manager) is rude as well & doesn't consider how they treat you. I'm a very quiet person & I don't bother anybody so this will be my last time ever letting them think they can run over me . The employees vape while customers are in the store and nobody says anything . yet, a pregnant woman gets the most unprofessional treatment. For this to be a VERY LOW paying job the treatment should be wayyy better especially If I'm one of the main employees who didnt mind to stay OVER TIME to help anybody, even when people called out! This location is less then stellar in several ways. Very poor selection of children's apparel and shoes. I love once upon a child but this location is certainly Subpar to say the least. There is barely a collection of shoes or toys. (Tiny inventory). The real issue comes down to the clothing they accept and resell very poor quality. I love once upon a child but never will return to this location again. Also a cashier was working with a woman who had special needs so she thought it was cool for her to keep yelling in a loud voice "we don't take graco products" and clearly the woman was embarrassed and walked out the store. She didn't have to embarrass her and yell and her co workers were giggling as if that was cute or acceptable. I will not patronize this business ever again!!! Overall disappointing experience with selling and customer service regarding it. The website is incredibly vague on how items should be brought in, and really only mentions a handful of things they would be willing to accept. When I pointed out the fact that the website wasn't clear, I was made to feel that it was my fault for not going to the "right" website - even though I told them I was in the right place, because it had their contact information on it and I even called prior to coming in. They then handed me a piece of paper that had the same exact website information on it I had already told them wasn't clear. When I stood my ground and told them I read this same information already, the workers all stared at me while one went on to tell me that they have a Facebook page with a video I should have looked at... Just an FYI - a business, everything should be easily identified on the website AND social platforms - if it isn't you shouldn't lecture your first, and now last time customers on how they must have done it incorrectly. Own your mistakes and fix them. They also verbally told me that they want it in plastic tubs, folded and ready to go onto the floor, and if you put it in bags - they likely won't take it because of wrinkles. Again - not advertised on the website, or on the piece of paper they handed me. The woman working also claimed they don't take any items over three years old, so that they can stay "with the times" - but judging by the old faded flannel shirts, and grimey Mickey Mouse hoodies from Disney vacations past - they don't follow that rule often. A lot of faded, outdated items in the inventory. They took a majority of my kids "hot ticket items" and gave five dollars total credit, and everything else back. I went in thinking I could get rid of their gently used summer clothes and pick up a few fall staples, but in all honesty, my time and customer experience wasn't even worth that. I'd rather just donate my children's clothes to an establishment that will help others in the community - and I'll stick to doing that in the future. read more

I've pretty much been to every OUAC within a 20 mile radius and this had to be my favorite one. There are some great treasures if you dig for them. For example, on my last trip I found some really great pieces like a Jamie and Jack coat for freaking $12 (retails for $90), mint condition white dress shoes for $1.50, brand new tights for $1, an actual baby Giants football jersey for $5 and a brand new Christmas outfit for $5. If I had known about consignment shops back when I first had my daughter, I wouldn't have bought ANYTHING retail. My experience with the people in the store wasn't bad. Nobody gave me an attitude about anything, so I guess management changed or something. Either way, I'll be back sooner than later. Quick rant: People need to keep in mind that you're not gonna get the same amount that you paid when selling second hand items. All they're doing is following protocol and pricing items the way they've been trained to do so. If you want to sell your items for higher prices, sell them yourself. Don't claim that you're trying to do the right thing by donating your kid's items and then get crotchety when you don't get what you think you deserve for them. That just goes to show that instead of doing it for a good cause, all you're concerned about is the money. read more

I shop their clearance racks and find great deals on clothes for my daughter. It takes time and patience because of how things are organized ( or not so organized) but I don't mind. The workers are usually preoccupied. Most times they speak when you come in the door and then you don't interact with them again until check out. The aisles are super narrow so navigating a shopping cart, wheel chair or stroller is a bit challenging. I've never sold to them so I don't have any info on that. read more

Had a horrible experience here with a worker. I was looking at toys with my two year old. He found a train, that was connected with two parts, that he was playing with until we could buy it. Suddenly a worker came over and started snatching the toys from my son and putting them in the boxes (mind you he had only three toy parts out). When I told her we were getting them, she stated they can't be out on the floor because if a customer trips, it's their fault. I honestly understand that, BUT, as someone who's worked retail before, you NEVER rudely snatch something out of a customer's hand, let alone a child's. I shop here a few times a month, however, I refuse to go back after this. There's a way to say and do everything, she obviously had no experience. Don't work at a children's store if you don't like children and definitely don't work in retail if you do not know how to speak with customers. *The entire time, I made sure he was not in the aisle, and put every toy back he got out, except the train we WERE going to purchase. read more

I would not recommend due to low balling on prices. Staff do not appear to be very friendly. had a tote full of premium quality like-new and brand new with tags items (90% Ralph Lauren Polo long sleeve button ups, short sleeve polos, jackets and sweatshirts - about 28 pieces; Thomas Dean, J Crew, Guess, Hurley - about 4 pieces of these items). They left 3 items in my tote and offered me $40 for all of my, again, like new or brand new with tags items. I don't expect to get what was paid for my items, but to offer less than $2 for premium brand high quality items is ridiculous. I have been to other children consignment stores (Children's Orchard) and have received well over $100 for half of what I presented to this place. My husband and I tried them many years ago when our boys were toddlers and the same thing happened. Not to put down any other brands, but I've seen the quality of items they sell in this store. Employees are EXTREMELY rude and very inconsiderate. Went in and was shopping, my 4 year old had to use the bathroom. I went to the bathroom and the door was locked so I went up front to ask someone could she use the restroom. I was informed by a male who worked there that their bathroom was no longer a public restroom. I said even for her? She's 4? The guy just said nope and walked away! This store is a child's store, how can any Mother's really do any shopping with their little ones?!? I mean really even expecting mamas can't use the restroom either! I was torn between 2 & 3 stars and rounded down because the people that work there are a little rude. I've bought and sold and both are just ok. They have nice things but if you shop sales you can do just as well on price for the same items new. As far as selling it is good if you don't itemize. I recommend dropping things off and coming back if you have a lot of stuff. The prices they pay are almost exactly (maybe a little less) than the amount of money you would end up with if you wrote off the goodwill suggested values of your items on your tax return. So if you have a favorite charity it would be much easier to drop off all of your things, not have to wait, not have to take home the things they don't want, etc. it was not a horrible experience and could be a nice fit depending on your situation. read more

I am currently standing in this store waiting for an offer on my items. I called about 25 minutes before arriving at the store and spoke to a female employee. I missed her name on the phone but assume it was either Abigale or Jadanya, as those are the name tags on the two female employees present now. (I may have those names slightly off..am trying to read name tags discreetly) I explained I was a first time buyer and had a few questions. I asked what the current approximate wait time was and explained I had a swing, rock and play, co sleeper and a box of toys to bring in. I asked if those items were likely to be accepted depending on condition and she replied that equipment was always in demand and was certainly worth bringing by if it was in good condition. I said I'd pack things up and head their way. Upon arrival I carried the co sleeper and box of toys to the door and was greeted by a sign stating they would only accept one box and one hard item per person. I pushed inside and approached the counter, and asked the employee there, Matt, when that sign had been posted. He replied that it had been up for two hours. I said it would have been nice to have been told that on the phone, that the employees should have made that info clear. He wanted to know if I had asked. I explained that I had clearly told the employee on the phone what I was bringing and had asked if they accepted them. He said rudely "Well, then we answered your question.". He was brusque throughout our encounter and said it would take up to 45 minutes to look over my items. I began writing this review and signed up for a yelp account as I waited. About 15 minutes later he called me over and said they'd like to make an offer on the co sleeper. He explained that they search items online for current pricing, price the items in their store between 50% and 60% of that price, and will offer me between 25%-40% of what they will sell it for. He claimed to find my item posted between 40 and 70 $ online. I made sure he included "deluxe" in his search, as there were two versions of this co sleeper and mine was the more expensive. He said he had, and that he'd found it for 40 through K mart and Walmart. He offered me 12.50 for the item. I declined and left (am now finishing this post at home). I have Googled, and the co sleeper listed for 40 on the Kmart site is, indeed, the non deluxe version, as I stated. So... I will not be going back to this store. If you decide to do business there, I recommend that a) you ask many, very specific questions on the phone until you are satisfied that you have all relevant information and b) Know exactly the value of the item so that you can't be scammed and c) be prepared to deal with rude, condescending employees. I like this store. I went in to sell some of my daughter's clothes. I was offered what I would consider a fair price for what they selected, although it would have been nice if they'd taken more. But I suppose they can't buy everything from everyone that comes in. While I was waiting, I did a little shopping and was impressed by the selection they had and the quality. Will NEVER step foot inside Once Upon a Child, in Concord, again. The people are only mildly friendly. And their shopping carts are very unstable. I thought that as soon as I got one. But as we were leaving, my almost 3 year old, daughter reached in to get her jacket, barely touching the cart. It topples over on her, full of stuff. She falls back and hits her head. This is in front of the register. Everyone (3 people, not waiting on other people) working there saw it. No one tried to help me get the stuff off her and no one even asked if she was ok. NO ONE ASKED IF SHE WAS OK. I am unbelievably upset and have no intention of going there again. I have emailed the corporate office, but I'm sure that will fall on deaf ears, as each store is individually owned and operated. So, I've decided to take to any type of social media I can. I've worked in retail, for many years in the past, and I know if someone got hurt we did all we could to help. That's just covering yourself and being a decent human being.
